The Best Restaurants in Camberwell, South East London | Eater London

"There are three ways to enjoy Van Hing. First is in it’s menu of British-Chinese favourites done with care: good versions of Singapore noodles; salt and pepper tofu; crispy noodles with duck and pork. The second is to go for the small Vietnamese menu, particularly the exceptional bánh cuốn with wrappers so fine it’s possible to read a book through them, either eaten on their own and dipped in fish sauce, or stuffed with finely minced pork and wood ear mushrooms. The third is to come on a Friday, when those in the know are here for lòng lợn. This demotic Vietnamese sharing food is not for those faint-hearted about offal. It’s Operation on a plate: sliced hearts, liver, intestine stuffed with bitter herbs, with absolutely nothing done to obscure their initial function as organs, retaining crunch and chew where appropriate. Then there’s the mam tom for dipping: A dank, grey pool of fermented shrimp with an intensity only usually found in decaying things, whipped up into an angry froth and gulped between snatches of fresh herbs." - Jonathan Nunn

Great tasting, freshly made Chinese food. Those who have been following me know that I don't give 5 star reviews but this is a gem in Camberwell. I will take my wife there when she gets back. Staff is very friendly. My uncle and I had 5 kettles of their chinese tea. Very very good tea I must say.

A very nice place to eat out! We went there on a Wednesday Evening without reservation and still got a table. The food is really good and the prices are definitely worth it! I would recommend this restaurant!

A local authentic and totally unpretentious Vietnamese Chinese restaurant that always delivers. Don’t expect anything fancy but if you are in Camberwell and up for an Asian fix then this family run restaurant will tick all your boxes. I had a delicious fried rice with duck for £9.50. Great value for a plate of food that is cooked with love. 5 stars for me

This place is lovely! The food is so tatsy I felt so much comfort eating here, I really can't fault the tatse and portions. Look good too little slow but I actually like they cook the food well. However for me personally because I have sensory issues it can get a little overwhelming loud ect, esp if there's a dinner party, but that's nothing to some. The staff are friendly and efficient, had no issues here.

Its not a gourmet high end restaurant, it's just a good value, honest place when they serve delicious food.

Unfortunately I did not enjoy my dinner. I ordered a noodle soup that weirdly tasted like dill. Very strange for a Vietnamese dish. I had to add lots of chilli and hoisin sauce in order to give some flavour to the broth. I ended up just eating some of the noodles. I did not like the chicken satay skewers. The chicken was ok but the sauce I don't know what it was, it was definitely not satay.

You'd have a hard time finding better value for Vietnamese/Chinese cuisine in London than here. The crispy battered prawns were incredible—I ate the whole thing, shell included (normally I leave this out!). The fried rice was perfectly seasoned and textured. Highly recommended.

I tried some new dishes that were absolutely delicious—bursting with flavor and definitely worth coming back for. The service was incredible, with staff radiating positivity that made the meal even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was buzzing with energy, creating the perfect vibe. Can’t wait to return!

Yelp
BEST PHO I'VE FOUND IN SOUTH LONDON. Van Hing serves consistently amazing pho that gives me life and energy. Everything, down to the noodles, is made from scratch. They have a wide variety of other dishes as well. speedy + friendly service. affordable prices. nice decor. I love this place!

Yelp
I love this Vietnamese...it is always good...asked for summer spring roll, crispy pancake , steamed roll and salt and pepper squids. When the bill come...you will be surprised how cheap it was. Some people's brought their own beers. It is full of students who like to hanging out in this restaurant. Occasionally you find Vietnamese community gather in this restaurant. If you are not far from camberwell church Street, perhaps you should give a go.

Yelp
Both dishes were overbaked. They didn't give me an explanation. I won't eat here again.

Yelp
Warming pho ga (chicken pho) on a cold Sunday night. I'm only sad that I didn't know about it earlier, as we've lived in the area since March and are heading home in two weeks! The spring rolls were also very delicious, as were my partner's summer rolls and beef pho. Recommended!

Yelp
This is, as far as I know, the only Vietnamese place on Camberwell Church street and a handy place it is to have around indeed. Their pho makes a cold day better and the people who work here are friendly. Cheaper and more healthy than the chipper. Cash only

Yelp
Went there last night for some cheap but good grub. They've had a little makeover, but you come here for the food not the vibes or the chi chi surroundings, just home made chow. We had the pepper squid, prawn rolls, a fresh salad, soup and the sizzling tofu and aubergine, followed by ho fun mixed meat, chicken curry and rice and beef fried noodles. Nice food, nice price and now they have a licence so we had some beers too. The bin outside has gone, although it never had any detrimental effect inside apart from keeping the riff raff at bay [see above]. 1993 seems good to me. Keep it neighbourhood and the hoi polloi can go eat in Clapham.

Yelp
Great little local Vietnamese and Chinese place. Go for the fresh and healthy Vietnamese if you need that or the really well executed Cantonese stuff for comfort. Their pho is delicious and their salt and chilli squid the best I've had.
