Upscale Ice Cream Spot Van Leeuwen Is Opening Three Scoop Shops in Boston | Eater Boston

"This Seaport outpost, slated to open in summer at 131 Seaport Boulevard, brings the chain's signature focus on perfectly made traditional flavors (vanilla bean, Sicilian pistachio), strong vegan options, and occasional novelty limited-edition flavors to the neighborhood; the brand currently operates over 50 locations nationwide." - Erika Adams

Google
What I love about Van Leeuwen is that it's the only Ice Cream store that's open late. After dinner in the Seaport with 3 friends we decided to go get Ice Cream. It was 10pm and Van was the only late night Ice Cream store in the Seaport. That was very helpful and we all order a triple scoop. It's also the best tasting ice cream in the neighborhood.

Google
The place seems fairly new, great location and they had so much ice cream flavors / variety. We took our ice cream and walked by the pier. They offer sundaes, cookie sandwiches, milkshakes, etc. The proportions are great. The service was good as well. No complains.

Google
This ice cream shop was good and had loads of flavor variety. Unfortunately when I went they were out of the flavor I wanted to pick but they still had plenty of good flavors left and the scoop sizes are bigger then I was imagining. The inside looks pretty cool and they have a big wall art on one of their walls. The wait can get a bit long so if you don't mind waiting you will be in a nicely heated place out of the cold.

Google
Ice cream honestly not that good, but service and ambiance super friendly and inviting. Workers were very kind and patient. The texture of the ice cream is just off… it’s crumbly and not smooth at all. Feels weird to eat. By far the best part of this shop are the flavors. Inventive and extremely fun, creative and makes the experience so much better. Great for mix in lovers, not recommended for gelato lovers. High recommend cookies and cream and brown butter cookie dough

Google
The mango sorbet ice cream was so creamy! It was a tad too sweet for my taste though! The service was slow on the 4th of July because it was so busy! They had about 5 people at the counter, but only like 2 people were filling ice cream orders at the time. There was little to no AC. It was HOT.

Google
We visited this location on Sunday night, we wanted some milkshakes and we were told they didn’t had any milk left, no problem we decided to go for simple scoops of ice cream instead. A few minutes later another customers walked in asking for the same and they had milkshakes for them. Not sure if this was a racial situation because I was explaining to my parents the flavors in Spanish, a lack of professionalism or all together, but my parents felt terribly disrespected and discriminated. Wouldn’t go back there. Also both workers were pretty rude

Google
My first time trying Van Leeuwen Ice cream and it was soooooo good!! The brown sugar cookie dough brownie is something else!! Recommended!!!

Google
Me and my friends stopped by yesterday around 5pm. We walked in and there was already a huge line. We noticed only one person working and we assumed another was working as well, maybe in the back or on break. We realized the person was working by herself this whole time. More and more ppl came in. But yet, she didn’t seem flustered or annoyed, and kept a huge smile on her face. She was very welcoming and had positive spirits. She def deserves some recognition for her hardwork/positivity and keeping cool under all the pressure. I didn’t get a chance to get her name but she was awesome! Give her a raise or a bonus if you can! (Picture below shows the fraction of the line, colored in ppls faces to conceal identity just in case) :)

Yelp
Late-night stroll through the Seaport? Craving something unforgettable? Look no further than Van Leeuwen. This place doesn't just serve ice cream--it delivers an experience that will blow you off your feet and freeze your brain with joy. Every bite is a celebration of flavor, texture, and craftsmanship. Whether you're a vanilla purist or a flavor explorer, Van Leeuwen offers the most delicious scoops in the Seaport--dare I say, the world. Don't waste time searching elsewhere. Van Leeuwen is your final destination for ice cream heaven

Yelp
This is a fun little ice cream joint in Boston, and you will see this chain popping up in more and more places across the country. The ambiance is very colorful and eye-catching! The interior is small; there are a few seats if you want to enjoy your ice cream there. There was one staff member on duty, and he was friendly and helpful. I had the brown sugar cookie dough brownie flavor with rainbow sprinkles. Very tasty! It was not overly sweet but still had a very lovely creaminess. They have a great variety of flavors which are all unique, and they focus on premium ingredients. It's a bit more expensive than standard ice cream, but it's worth it!

Yelp
***Opened 4th of July 2025*** Service: The line was long and moved pretty slowly. Flavors: They had a few vegan options available that day (4th of July). Too many flavors to choose from! They all looked yummy! I loved that you can sample the different ice creams and didn't feel rushed! I didn't want to hold up the line though so I only tried 2. I loved that they have steel spoons for samples instead of disposable spoons like many other places. The mango sorbet was good, but a tad too sweet for my personal preference. Ambiance: The restaurant was clean, but had little to no AC. It was HOT inside.

Yelp
I love ice cream, and I enjoyed the ice cream and the staff and the staff. However.. the sundae serving sizes are small and the prices high. The quality was good, but not as good as some other options in Boston and Cambridge.
google avatar

Marni M.

Yelp
Wanting something sweet, I found I enjoyed the sample of Sicilian Pistachio provided. Not usually a fan of this flavor since it usually has a strong artificial and almost alcoholic taste to it, I was pleasantly surprised. It is pretty pricey for one scoop but the staff was kind enough to make it a generous scoop. It's a cute and comfortable environment. Wouldn't mind coming again.
google avatar

Georgia K.

Yelp
Good ice cream using high quality dairy and offering both staple and unique flavor options. This location is kind of tucked into a plaza area but in the inside corner around the bend. Inside has minimal seating but is well lit, and efficient in service. For the price per scoop, I would expect the flavors to be stronger and the portions to be slightly larger. Honestly for the same price, you could just go buy a pint from a grocery store.
google avatar

Jenny T.

Yelp
Food: The flavor I got was really good. The ice cream is solid but quite expensive for the portion you get. Service: The workers are nice as they let you try certain flavors! Ambiance: Cute pink store with plenty of outdoor seating.

Yelp
One of the few ice creams that doesn't give me a stomach ache. Flavors are creamy and flavorful, they pack a decadent and refreshing punch. I'm very impressed, ice cream is my favorite food. The service was spectacular. Whoever opened last Sunday let me try a bunch of flavors, I couldn't decide between like 5, they all looked so good! Not a single one disappointed. Cherries, cheesecakes, lemon and matcha and earl gray I forget but I remember the taste still. I cannot wait to go back!
google avatar

Guli K.

Yelp
Tried the big face affogato and chocolate on their waffle cone and it was sooooo good! They had some interesting flavors like corn blueberry, sorbets and vegan options too. Service was quick and friendly. Lines were out the door but moved pretty quick. There is seatin indoors but also plenty of seating outside.

Jen H.

Yelp
I love both the ice cream itself and the service! Top shelf. Location is good too. Wish more places like this opened up.
google avatar

Sylvia H.

Yelp
First time at Van Leeuwen. It was alright. I was interested in their non-dairy flavors and they didn't have most of the vegan options listed on their menu. I ended up getting the dark chocolate brownie which was pretty rich. I really wanted to try the strawberry shortcake. Maybe another time.
google avatar

Yutin Z.

Yelp
Yummy ice cream! My favorites are the honey comb, earl grey, and ice cream cake! Nice place to come with friends or family!
google avatar

Yelp
So excited to see Van Leeuwen Ice Cream finally opened in Seaport! All the flavors looked delicious but I wanted to try the lemon meringue pie flavor since it was a limited edition flavor. The ice cream was delicious with pieces of pie crust and lemon curd swirls. The small scoop was definitely pricier than other ice cream shops just as a heads up. There's quite a bit of seating if you do want to enjoy your ice cream in the store. Went on a weekday night and it wasn't busy at all and I was able to get my ice cream quickly! Can't wait to keep enjoying more sweet treats from here.

Yelp
I have been looking forward to this shop opening up for months! Ice cream for breakfast!?? Yes please!!! The grand opening was lovely. It was organized and staff were friendly. They even gave away cute tote bags. The shop's design is colorful and fun - definitely giving me pink lemonade vibes. I ordered my all time fave - Cookies and Cream on a waffle cone! Their cones are some of the best I've had. There's a subtle taste of cinnamon. I also sampled the collaboration with Flour Bakery - lemon meringue pie! It did not disappoint. What will their next one be!?? Chocolate cream pie!?? I hope so. Cannot wait to come back and try more of their flavors....hoping they will house some of their funky ones. Welcome to the neighborhood!!

Yelp
The flavors were actually so wild. I really liked the brown sugar cookie dough one, and I also got a fudge brownie one that was so savory and delicious. I really liked the inside and the colorful walls. It just makes it seem upbeat and exciting inside. The staff was nice too. When I went, they had a deal where you can get 10 kids scoop vouchers for about $30, which is a steal! Unfortunately, I was visiting and there's no van leeuwens where I live. Maybe open one in Utah next ? I'd totally go again!

Yelp
I was excited to try Van Leeuwen ice cream (and since my blood sugar was low, I needed the sugar) on a Tuesday evening in April. Firstly, the place is small with not enough seating (partly because there aren't enough stools for the window counters. The interior is loud (color wise) not on a good way. I know it's an ice cream shop of there a difference between fin and tacky. Most importantly the ice cr was dense, overly sweet and not as innovative flavor wise as I was hoping. It's pretty much like JP Licks not as all like Toscaninnis. Also the small cups are VERY small. Like most shops kiddo cups. To thier credit they do have about half and half regular vs vegan flavors which is a plus Not rushing to go back
google avatar

Sandra H.

Yelp
A little secret place, a bit hard to locate, but once here it's magical! Quite an array of flavors. Peanut butter honeycomb was my ultimate choice, and I couldn't be happier. It is sooo creamy, with large chunks of peanut butter and honeycomb.
google avatar

Yelp
Super cute spot! The place is bright, colorful, and honestly just puts you in a good mood the second you walk in. The staff was really kind and the whole place felt clean and welcoming. Now the important part... the Ice Cream CAKE flavor? Hands down one of the best ice creams I've ever had. It was creamy, colorful, flavorful, and tasted exactly like the name (in the best way). If you're into rich, dessert-y flavors don't skip it. Great for a casual treat, a fun photo spot, or just satisfying a sweet craving like me Today! We'll be definitely be coming back (and probably getting the same flavor again, let's be honest
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
Super premium ice cream at premium-ish prices! I tried both the earl grey and the pistachio and loved it. Not a fan of "bits" in my ice cream so I appreciated the smooth, non topping flavors. I don't think I would come here often as it's about $7 for one scoop and almost $9 for two flavors. Definitely a place to indulge, but the staff working there are so nice and you can certainly sample flavors. The online menu differed from the one at the store and was disappointed they didn't have a flavor I had pre-selected before I got there.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Van Leuwen flavors in grocery stores, so I was excited to try their storefront. There were 2 vegan flavors available (mango sorbet and peanut butter cookie dough), and it's nice that you can sample as many flavors as you want. I got the peanut butter one ($7 for one scoop) which was quite creamy and delicious. Although a bit pricey, the taste delivered, and I'd recommend it! The staff were friendly, and there's seating inside and outside.
google avatar

Yelp
So excited to have this Van Leeuwen location in Seaport. While Boston does have the might FOMU location in a few different spots, Van Leeuwen's vegan selections are always really good. When I visited this location, they had five choices on hand. I got a two scoop combo of strawberry shortcake and a peanut butter chocolate type variety. Both flavours were excellent. As for the space, it's relatively spacious for an ice cream shop, meaning there will be room on those days when you don't immediately want to head back out to a cold winter's day (or hot humid one, for that matter.) They're also open very late! I think 12am on weekends and 11pm on weekdays. So there's no problem making it here after a dinner nearby.
google avatar

Ed D.

Yelp
We came here after eating a good dinner and the group wanted ice cream. We have one of these in Denver, Colorado as well so i suggested it when i saw it was nearby. It's very good creamy and tasty ice cream with some unique flavors. I got the mango sticky rice ice cream in a cup. They really filled it up so there was plenty of ice cream. I could taste more coconut than mango but it was still very tasty. Prices were a just a tad more expensive than other ice cream shops but it's worth it. Service was very friendly.
google avatar

Zach M.

Yelp
Ok why did it take me so long to try this place??? Truly unique and amazing flavors that cater to a wide range of dietary preferences. They are very generous with samples (and even give out metal spoons to taste with!) We came like 45mins before they closed, and while a lot of places would be put off, the guy helping us went well above and beyond helping us all. I ordered a pint to go and the worker even kept it in the freezer until we left. This was a great after-movie stop and I will certainly be back!

Yelp
We embraced autumn with a scoop of perfection. There's nothing quite as indulging as treating yourself to the spirit of fall with the timeless joy of ice cream. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is a 12/10! MUST TRY! There is a nice selection of seasonal flavors from pumpkin cheesecake to praline butter cake. No visit would have been complete without sampling their classic flavors like lemon meringue and earl gray tea. The service and ambiance is so nice. Whether you choose to savor your ice cream inside the cozy and bright colored shop or take a leisurely stroll around seaport, the experience will be delightful. There's no better place to indulge in a scoop of ice cream than perfectly captures the flavors of the season.

Armen Y.

Yelp
Loved their ice cream. I chose two scoop of coffee affogato, loves the taste. I had great experience at Can Leeuwen. They do have several tables to sit and enjoy your ice cream. Also liked the atmosphere.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
I was so excited that a location opened in Seaport!! I've always loved their unique ice cream flavors and they're always so good! This time I tried the strawberry matcha latte ice cream and the lemon meringue pie ice cream. They were both yummy but I definitely love the strawberry matcha latte one the most because it was also so creamy! The lemon meringue pie was definitely more crumbly like the pie and less like an ice cream. I love that they always have seasonal new flavors! I'll be coming back for more!

Chris H.

Yelp
Went over for the weekend for dessert. I liked their pistachio very much. Would recommend. A little bit on the pricy side.
google avatar

Paulina L.

Yelp
The person helping us was so kind and hustling all by themself and our ice cream came out bomb! This was our first time at a Van Leeuwen location after having their ice cream at home all the time, amazing! The store is also so colorful and cute
google avatar

Selena H.

Yelp
It's my current one of favorite ice creams! I used to pass by in NYC and get a pint from grocery. They have unique flavors but that doesn't go too close to the each named flavor but also don't go too far. It's just perfect! If I name a few unique flavors; sweet potato with marshmallows, pumpkin! But my favorite so far are honeycomb and scilian pistachios! Happy to see the branch in Seaport !!
google avatar

Jody W.

Yelp
Brand new ice cream spot in the Seaport area of Boston. We had no idea they had just opened less than a week prior to finding this little gem. Friendly service with a smile, quick moving line and delicious ice cream choices. Lots of interesting flavors to choose from as well. Cool place that I will definitely try again when I am planning on cheating with extra calories!
google avatar

Brooke C.

Yelp
My ice cream here was so delicious! I got a seasonal fall menu offering - the blueberry jelly donut ice cream. It was incredible! Al also really loved the waffle bowl. Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
yay! van leeuwen ice cream shop finally in boston! seaport has been really changing the game. the smell of waffle cone was irresistible once you walk in. it was thin, crunch and sweet. staff was very sweet and generous on their scoops. there were many flavors to choose from, very unique and some rotating flavors! specialty to seaport shop is the lemon meringue pie flavor made in collaboration with joanne chang from flour bakery! flavors honeycomb cookies & cream brown sugar cookie dough brownie peanut butter brownie honeycomb earl grey tea vanilla bean chocolate strawberry marionberry cheesecake bigface coffee affogato black cherry chip praline butter cake dark chocolate fudge brownie mint chip sicilian pistachio ice cream cake sour cherry creamsicle passion fruit berry pop chocolatey crisp cereal & milk marionberry chocolate chip sherbet banana bread pudding with fudge swirls cookies & cream caramel swirl strawberry shortcake peanut butter brownie honeycomb

Jake E.

Yelp
Best ice cream ever! Got the brown sugar and loved it. Staff was very friendly. Would come here for dinner if I could!

Ryan S.

Yelp
Good, but pretty overpriced. Allegedly messed up one of our orders but we did not correct them so not on us. Everything was yummy, no cookie dough ice cream though.
google avatar

Gil S.

Yelp
Lots of interesting flavors. I can recommend the tea flavor, I thought it was really good. The Honeycomb was good too but a little too sweet to my taste. The portions were generous too. I didn't realize this place is "trendy", the area looks really nice and the seating area outside is lovely, weather permitting. I don't have anything special to say about the service. I thought it was OK but nothing exceptional. Still, this is an ice cream place so the interaction with the staff is pretty minimal.
google avatar

Rafael A.

Yelp
Good ice cream love it and the ambiance is nice and cozy I would definitely go back there

Hailey A.

Yelp
We wanted to stop in on our Boston trip and try this place! We got the PB brownie honeycomb and dark chocolate fudge brownie ice cream. The flavors were unique and pretty good, but priced high. It was pretty good, but not worth the high price and smaller portions.
google avatar

Sister O.

Yelp
Finished watching a movie decided to get a small scoop of ice cream. Saw this cute shop nestle inside the seaport. I walked into the store they staff was friendly asked me if I would to samples by of the flavor. I asked the girl which was most popular she said the honeycomb. She was right it was good wish I bought a pint. Will be back to try their other flavors they offer

Brandon L.

Yelp
Don't waste your time. They are probably out of your favor and the AC is broken. It was easy 80+ degrees inside. You shouldn't have to wait in line to find out certain flavors are sold out. Make a sign.
google avatar

Cohen S.

Yelp
Wonderful ice cream in the Seaport district!! Fantastic flavor selection, and the staff were kind and quick. Great place for a scoop (or two)!!

Gina C.

Yelp
Amazing! Staff were extremely polite even through the long lines and hot weather. Ice cream 10/10.

Noura A.

Yelp
Clean place, the workers are really nice, best if cram in Boston will definitely be coming back to this location.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
Ice cream was delicious. Loved the honeycomb! Service was great. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

Allie S.

Yelp
While I've bought their pints before at the grocery store, I had to go check their offerings in their first MA store. They definitely have unique flavors and many vegan offerings. I'd heard good things about the brown sugar cookie dough brownie ice cream so I gave that a try and enjoyed it. As they will opening closer locations in Back Bay and Harvard I can't wait to try more flavors later when the weather is warmer.

Samy S.

Yelp
After being a big fan of Van Leeuwen ice-cream while visiting NY from Toronto, we were thrilled to find it opened in Boston too. So on our current Boston trip, we simply had to visit the outlet at Fan Pier today. The ambiance was great, the customer service immaculate but the best part was of-course the heavenly ice-cream!! Many, many flavours to choose from including the seasonal favourite - pumpkin spice cheesecake. Served with a smile, it fully satiated our very demanding taste-buds.

Wilson N.

Yelp
Good Icecream and servife I really like the food and the way they are all so good and I love them

Maura N.

Yelp
yummy! their ice cream is delicious and I appreciate their philosophy--it's ok to have real ice cream from time to time and enjoy it!!

Lorenzo M.

Yelp
Jaylynn was amazing! She was so accommodating and really made my night. I loved the energy that she broughI will be returning again!
