This place is definitely the definition of a two star review, good product, but overpriced, and a rude employee behind the counter. Also, not unique to this business, but I’m getting tired of every place asking for tips, I’m fine with a jar, but you can literally sense their demeanor change when you don’t tip at the counter, and I’m saying this as someone who worked as a tipped employee for many years. We had a set of industries where we accepted tipping in this country, but we have pushed that envelope and it is going to ruin it for everyone here soon.
Apologies for the slight tirade, but regarding my experience at this business, the milkshake I had was excellent, but incredibly expensive compared to what I would say is a comparable shake from a fast food establishment. I would say the shake was maybe slightly better, but not so much as to warrant the 100% or more markup compared to the aforementioned options. I’ve had their ice cream as well when I visited New York, it was from that experience that I actually was excited to patronize this location.
Regarding the location‘s condition itself, it was getting near closing time so I was willing to forgive a little messiness, but for a place that, based on the reviews, has been only open a few months, some of the interior furnishings are already worse for wear, and there we’re many sticky surfaces, including contact points near the counter.
Last, but not least the employee who helped us was both friendly and rude at the same time, I don’t really know how to describe it. He agreed at us just fine, but then didn’t offer any help in making our selection, whatever, but he then rolled his eyes and seemed condescending when I asked a simple question that perhaps may have had an obvious answer to him, but in my experience at other establishments, varies. Last but at least, when checking out, I wished him a good night and he pretty much ignored me, but when I walked out the door, he called after us to “have a good one.” I might be willing to chalk this up to a social disorder or possibly being under the influence of some kind of drugs, but it was a bit awkward, and might be uncomfortable for someone a little less socially adept than myself.
As far as everything else goes, there is 10 minute street parking in front of the building, the parking deck is free for 15 and very low cost for the first hour or two, after that the price is even still reasonable and because it is a pay deck, you can also explore other businesses outside of this development. I’m hoping that the other businesses opening in this very new development will complement this ice cream parlor, because if it has to stand alone, I don’t know if it will last or be able to grow in other parts of the city, not worth going out of the way to, but worth a stop if you’re close.
