Google
First time having Van Leeuwen ice cream and it did not disappoint! The vegan dark chocolate fudge brownie was so rich and creamy. My friend had the vegan strawberry shortcake and loved it! Can't wait to try their other vegan flavors!

Alan Varghese

Google
Hands down one of the best ice cream shops (and chain) in NYC. An amazing large assortment of ice cream flavors (and vegan deserts) options with the choice to sample every single one before ordering. The ice cream here is insanely good, be it the flavors, texture, quantity or price (3 scoop being the best deal). I had the Marion berry cheesecake, Honey comb and brownie raspberry swirl (vegan) scoops and all three were amazing, especially their Honey comb ice cream. My experience made me agree with their motto, happiness is health and having Van Leeuwen is happiness. They also sell prepacked pints here but it will be cheaper to buy them at local nearby supermarkets/grocery stores like Target or Fairway. They also have extremely friendly staff as well.

Google
Absolutely love everything about this shop. So many fun flavors (and actually awesome for both vegan and non vegan flavor), the shop is super cute, the workers there are SO lovely. Very friendly, polite helpful welcoming service made my day for sure. Even tho I had a bad day, their ice cream and service gave me a smile. Potion for two scoops was way more than enough for both of me and my sister. My absolute favorite flavor was earl grey.

Google
Very friendly service. The vegan ice cream is made with oatmilk . Very very smooth and very tasty. They have many different flavors to choose from. I will definitely go back. They have these shops all around NYC and Brooklyn. If you go and live far away bring a cooler to keep it frozen on the way home. I took a bunch of photos so you can see what they have.

Google
Way a better experience than the one on Spring Street. The staff was super happy, welcoming, and wasted no time to make their fav recommendations. And the little corner spot is actually very cute. Let's go VEGAN. now with need vegan with healthier sugar choices and less sugar.

Felipe Rodriquez

Google
Just tried the new Pistachio sundae because i love the Pistachio flavor alone and it was amazing. Service was great, wonderful and helpful and very polite. Would 100% recommend the new sundae

Google
Dors the job, very nice ice-cream shop, but be aware that the tastes are not very strong. The dark chocolate flavor is a regular chocolate, and the strawberry was a bit bland. However, it’s my second time there and not the last !

Allanah

Google
Large selection of ice cream and vegan ice , from classic vanilla to butter cream chai, sour lemon and cheesecake and very various savors. Expect to pay $8 for a single scoop, a couple of dollars more for double scoops, or more for triple scoop. Lots of take away containers also available on site Tuesday is Topping Tuesday: you get a free topping (sprinkles, chocolate fudge, etc)

Yelp
Super flavorful and rich ice cream! I got the honeycomb, which is always a great choice. I love the crunchy bits of honeycomb mixed into the sweet vanilla. I also tried the Double Chocolate Fudge Brownie, which is a must for any chocolate lovers. It's so rich and sweet, probably one of my favorite chocolate ice creams out there. I liked the hot fudge they have too because it's very thick and rich, not like other hot fudges that are more liquidy. The shop is very small with limited seating. The guy scooping the ice cream was nice. They have so many other flavors to try!

Esther R.

Yelp
Pros: The honeycomb ice cream was not too bad. It's on the sweeter side and has a little texture when you bite into it. They offer a variety of flavor & even let you sample a few before choosing. Cons: The indoor seating is limited, and the space is relatively small, making it more of a quick grab-and-go spot. This location also does not have a restroom.

Yelp
This is one of probably a dozen Van Leeuwen locations in Manhattan. Back in the day I used to follow the original Van Leeuwen ice cream truck when it was a single truck parked on the corner of Astor Place in East Village on certain days and in Brooklyn on others. When I first tried their earl grey and hazelnut flavors, I knew they were on to something. From then on whenever I was in the area and it was more than 50 degrees out I'd look forward to grabbing a sweet creamy treat. When friends visited I would take them to the truck, their eyes would light up when trying that earl grey. Their flavors were both traditional and novel. As they expanded I excitedly saw the number of trucks increase and soon they had stand alone stores, were being stocked at Whole Foods, then smaller bodegas, then even Target! Fast forward to now their ice cream is carried in grocery stores nationwide. I still love their earl grey. Their prices have gone up like everything else, but their flavors are still terrific. Love their vegan options too they taste very much like real ice cream, and it's cool that they have so many flavors. Not sure that the quality control is a good as when they were just a few trucks, inevitably the texture is harder to control when you're packing and shipping to so many retailers.

AJ L.

Yelp
I came here after lunch and had high expectations and they were met. They had a solid menu with some intriguing flavors (a lot sold out) and a handful of vegan options too. I got the Earl Grey and the Dark Chocolate Brownie. The texture was soft, but creamy and thick, not too icy which I appreciated. The chocolate was good (generic) but the Earl Grey? PHENOMENAL. This alone was worth 5-stars. So flavorful and I would be able to tell what it was blind folded if I was. Service was friendly and quick. Place is card only, so just be aware. Very clean place and lots of sitting. Would come back.

Maria M.

Yelp
Very rich and flavorful! whenever am craving for a good scoop of ice cream this place is my go to! They have a good range of flavors and their caramel cookie and cream is my fav! Their serving size is pretty decent.

Marissa M.

Yelp
This location is so cute and bright. The staff was super friendly. It was easy to pick out my ice cream from the freezer and the store smelled delicious!!!!!

Amber S.

Yelp
Food: All the options hit every flavor you'd want, sweet salty savory and even vegan options! Service: Quick and they had 2 folks on which helped speed things along as we had a group of 5 Ambiance: Cozy and small but they have some bar stool sitting options by the windows and was pretty well kept and had music on. We came as a much needed stop in excursions throughout the day in NYC and wanted a nighttime treat- while considering the vegan in the group. This place had in depth flavor cominarions with textures mixed in like crunch and salty for the butter cake for example. It wasn't too pricey and definetly a shareable portion even for a small!

Clara C.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream scooped into your cup or cone. This location is in Kips Bay. What stands out is they have a machine that will take your cash and spit out a card. The ice cream flavors are amazing. They even have vegan choices. Can't go wrong with the fan faves if you are not sure. At three scoops, you're looking at $11. HAHA. Pro tip: ask to try a sample!

Sasha S.

Yelp
They have regular ice cream and shakes but most importantly for me, vegan ice cream! There are a few of these in NYC and we were excited to see so many vegan ice cream options on their menu. The staff was friendly and helpful and the ambiance is nice.

Marriott H.

Yelp
I love the Van Leeuwen pints of ice cream from the grocery store, so I know this was a stop we had to make while in New York. The ice cream here was amazing! I cannot eat dairy and they had a lot of options compared to other ice cream places I have been in the past. I got the dairy free peanut butter brownie honeycomb flavor and it was delicious. Very creamy for a dairy free version.

Samantha W.

Yelp
Stopped by on a chilly Friday night at around 9:30PM and got one scoop of Early Grey ice cream in a cup. It cost $8 altogether which is pretty expensive for a small scoop but it did taste creamy and delicious! The service was also incredibly fast. It is a small spot so it's mostly to-go, not sit down. I would come back again if I was craving ice cream and was in the area but I would not go out of my way to come here.

Nancy L.

Yelp
Simply the best! The first time I had Van Leeuwen I had a root beer float. A root beer float I think is a bad name - they should call it " a rootin tootin beer float from God" sooooo good Van Leeuwen also has some of the most creative flavors that pair perfectly with their warm homemade waffle cones!

Meredith S.

Yelp
Great place to go after a long, quiet evening catching up with a friend. I got a birthday cake flavor, and brownie and absolutely adored it. Creamy, great ambiance, tons of great people watching!

Cory N.

Yelp
Everyone loved the ice cream! Who doesn't love ice cream? Vegan flavors and funky flavors galore. There is something for everyone, except someone who is looking for a low sugar treat. Everything has sugar. The servers work hard, so remember to tip well.

Kathy K.

Yelp
This premium ice cream shop located in the Upper East Side of NYC, has many flavor choices. They also offer a nice selection of Vegan choices. I had the Black Cherry Chip $6.90 for a single scoop and having it previously enjoyed it again. The place is bright and nice. The service was great.

Sandra G.

Yelp
We tried a double scoop in a waffle bowl!!! Sooo good! There was no wait and you can sit inside and enjoy or take it to go. It's cost inside and comfortable enough! The staff was friendly and offered suggestions too!

Karen Y.

Yelp
Creamy and addictive ice cream is found here! It's a bit expensive just for a single scoop, but the quality is top-notch! The early grey is so creamy! Albeit a bit heavy, the flavor is very smooth and buttery on the tongue. The sweetness is not too overpowering; while sweet, the more bitter tea flavor contrasts nicely with the creamy flavor. The line looks long, but moves quite quickly.

Madiyar Z.

Yelp
Love it. Especially vegan planet earth one. And service is great, but poor girl was doing by herself in a busy evening. She should hire more people

Marianne W.

Yelp
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream becomes addictive. I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit to Kips Bay so I can stop in this location. It's clean and I've never met a Van Leeuwen employee that wasn't friendly and helpful. I'm a fan of anything with Peanut Butter. This photo is Espresso. It was so delicious! It's a little pricey and the cost is going up regularly but I'm recommending.

Goose R.

Yelp
Fantastic #vegan ice cream at Van Leeuwen Ice cream shop. Multiple flavors and vegan whip cream too! Pretty cool from the attendant to tell me , when I ordered the waffle cone, he said, it's no vegan , is that ok? Prettt cool that he's paying attention and taking care of my nutritional needs ! Delicious , creamy , fantastic. Will definitely come again and again

Kelsey A.

Yelp
I'm lactose intolerant, and this is some of the best non-dairy ice cream I've ever had. The peanut butter brownie honeycomb is amazing!

John C.

Yelp
Great Ice Cream! Chocolate, Cookies & Cream, Pistachio and PB Brownie Chip!!!! Nice, friendly service.

Darlene C.

Yelp
I used to see Van Leeuwen Ice cream a lot from Whole Foods market. But I never tried this brand till I moved to NY. First of all, the store looks clean, staff here is welcoming and efficient. I tried several different flavors till I satisfied. Eventually, I got their most famous earl grey tea flavor. It is legit! Worth the hype as well. The space is also bright and spacious, great for tagging along with friends.

Nicole G.

Yelp
I never liked Van Leeuwen until now. I think they added a ton of new summer flavors that actually slap. I knew Van Leeuwen had been in everyone's favor but I hadn't understood their popularity until now. Their sorbet is delicious. So is their limited edition earth day flavor. Even writing this makes me want to go back. I'm now Van Leeuwen lover without a single ounce of regret (... until I see the bill)

Rohith V.

Yelp
Really solid ice cream place with lots of locations throughout NYC, though this one had a pretty small interior with limited seating. They have tons of vegan options as well if your preferences dictate accordingly. I went with the marionberry cheesecake flavor and enjoyed it especially the cheesecake bites in it. Pretty comparable to some of the other more gourmet ice cream shops but a little pricey, might check out their other flavors another time

Annika K.

Yelp
guys... i literally cant believe this is vegan!!! my friend was craving something sweet and briefed me about a vegan ice cream which, prior to trying this spot, i was totally against BUT we tried ao many flavors both vegan and regular and i couldnt tell the difference???? also like, it was soooo good. their known for the honey comb which i didnt love because i dont like honey but i saw so many people get that flavor. the person ringing us up was so sweet and had us try their favorite flavor - the raspberry vegan one which i almost liked more than the strawberry cheesecake needless to say i will be back everyday?? so in love with the ice cream here

Justin T.

Yelp
Having a van leeuwen in the neighborhood in hot and sweaty humid nyc weather is clutch. Service is great. Ice cream never disappoints. There's not much else one can praise because flavors are very individualized.

Anna K.

Yelp
Rich and delicious ice cream. Make sure to stop by when you see one in your area. The chocolate chip is the bomb

Amy L.

Yelp
Listen I liked it! Wroth a try if you're just bumbing around manhattan like I was and decided I needed this in my life. See it, like it, eat it! it was yummy. I go the honeycomb. Pretty nomnom. :) It was nicely creamy and had those fun chunks of sweetness. Turns out it's not made from any honey. Instead, it's made with caramel candy. SO DONT GET BAMBOOZLED Social distancing good. I think they prefer if you eat outside tbh so waddle outside and enjoy!

Neha S.

Yelp
Earl grey tea ice cream is the way to my heart and Van Leeuwen did not disappoint with theirs. Would I wait 40 minutes in line again for it again? Probably. They have other cool flavors too and the classics. The only thing is they ran out of a lot of flavors but thats probably explained by their big lines (and the fact I was there at night). Would definitely recommend.

Terry C.

Yelp
One of the best earl grey icecreams I have tried. There are so many different unique flavors like planet earth, blueberry shortcake etc and the employees were all so generous and accommodating. They also have a variety of vegan flavors that basically taste as good as the nonvegan ones. I was tempted to get a scoop of their unique flavors but I had to get the classic earl grey because it's simply too good. The consistency also differs according to flavor and I really liked how chewy the earl grIt is a bit on the pricier side with $5.95 per (not a big) scoop but it was worth it!

Lingxiao C.

Yelp
I love that they have new flavors every so often! Tried the following seasonal specials: - Blue Jasmin Tea: Subtle but distinct jasmine fragrance. SUPER smooth and creamy. My fav out of the three. Highly recommend if you like your ice cream pure and simple but not pedestrian. - Blood Orange Creamsicle: More on the tarty side. The texture was a mix of creamy and gooey. - Vegan Yuzu Sake: Had high hopes for this one given the interesting combination. While it was good - you can certainly taste the yuzu and sake flavors, I have to say that vegan ice cream is just not as good as regular ice cream based on my personal preference for creamy texture. It was a lot icier than the previous two. Nevertheless, the flavors were great.

Samantha P.

Yelp
First off the service was amazing and majority of the time, if the service is great I give the places a good review but I'll still be honest about the food if it was not to my taste. Personally I was disappointed with the ice cream I got which was the chocolate cookie dough vegan icecream. It was my first time trying vegan ice cream and i heard amazing things about this place from my lactose intolerant friend. However, I am not too sure if I just ordered the wrong icecream or I just don't like vegan icecream. My friends fully enjoyed their icecreams and had no complaints whatsoever so I'm assuming it was just me that was not a fan.

Sara L.

Yelp
On top of their regular ice cream flavors, their vegan flavors are really good and they have so many options!

Astro C.

Yelp
A very expensive ice cream parlor but must say they have a diverse menu. Despite not being vegan, I picked a vegan flavor and quite liked it! There was really no "vegan" taste to it (ie same as the non vegan option and didnt seem like the flavors/ice cream was created as an after thought). Workers were friendly and gave samples that actually let me taste the flavors. It is quite pricey however but the scoops are sizable if eaten after a good meal. Tldr: strongly recommend to vegans and those interested in specialty ice cream flavors!

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Friendly cashiers and great ice cream! Got the Planet Earth- which was Blue Spirulina and Matcha green tea ice cream- and Earl Grey Tea, topped with honeycomb candy. Super fun and tasted great!

Giacomo C.

Yelp
Clean, welcoming, lots of samples. Dark chocolate fudge brownie: outrageously amazing. Huge, even the one scoop. Go... you will not regret it.

Eve R.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream. I thought the special dulche de leche walnut cookie chip seemed like it would be too much but it was great. Expensive for a scoop but it is NYC and it seemed high quality. A basic bright small shop that was warm. We enjoyed eating at the counter stools. Service was friendly and efficient.

Niaz P.

Yelp
Always a great stop for ice cream! They have multiple flavors and options for dietary restrictions. There's some seating inside too if you want to stick around to eat in there. I've come here a few times and would say any flavor ice cream is great here!

Mason L.

Yelp
Great ice cream, especially if you are vegan. We also tried the earl gray flavor which was nice. Nothing mind blowing to me, but still great

Mike C.

Yelp
Great new location (their 18th!), located in the ice cream poor area of Murray Hill, and perfectly situated when you need some ice cream before getting on the Midtown Tunnel back to Queens. This location has a special flavor only available here, a great new Vegan Oat Milk Masala Chai. I'll definitely be back regularly whenever around Murray Hill.

Morlene C.

Yelp
Van Leeuwen is really starting an aggressive expansion plan, and I'm here for it. This prime location on 30th and 3rd is perfect for people coming out of the nearby Kips Bay theater or for a post-dinner snack. The narrow little shop doesn't leave much room to stand around in and on opening day there was a line that snaked down the block. I'm very fond of their honeycomb flavor and have always appreciated their vegan selections. Everything I've had here is delicious! They're pushing the oat milk flavors pretty hard, and so I had to sample the oat milk chocolate chunk and oat milk masala chai. Both were super tasty, but I went for the blueberry pie summer flavor. I'm really into texture in my ice cream, and was glad they did not skimp on the pie pieces. I'll definitely be going back for the toasted coconut blondie or one of their sundaes. This summer is shaping up to include a lot of ice cream in my future.

Julius D.

Yelp
My brother and his wife and me and my own came here on a late Saturday night because the girls were craving ice cream and it was my sister-in-law who found the place on one of her apps. With that said, I'm not truly a fan; I think it is cool that there's a spot that caters to vegan sensibilities but I didn't think it was all that good. I went with pistachio because it was a fully vegan option, and supposedly lactose-free, tho my gut would disagree with that statement. It wasn't so bad for me, just that the flavor could've been better. Or maybe my memory of pistachio ice cream (from Carvel no less ftw) back in the late 80s has somehow morphed into something else, or maybe it wasn't true pistachio flavored. I don't know, but I know I didn't particularly care for the taste; since everyone else seemed to like theirs well enough I'm good with saying they're OK.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
My friend and I got the Strawberry and the Cookie crumble strawberry jam. Both are good but if you want something more interesting, try the latter flavor! I was looking for something more refreshing (a flavor with some mint or even a sorbet) since it was summery outside & we had been walking a lot, but sadly there wasn't as much variety as I was hoping. It was very creamy/milky so it made us thirstier. Nonetheless good ice cream though.

Rita R.

Yelp
Love that they offer vegan selections. Can't wait to go back. Good service. Clean. What's not to like.

Amanda D.

Yelp
This isn't a review for this actual location, they did a pop up with the skincare brand Farmacy. They created the Sweet Apple vegan ice cream, not sure if it's a real ice cream with Van Leeuwen or just for the event, but it was delicious!!! It had little dehydrated apple bites, caramel maybe some toffee bits. I have no idea but I loved it. Would 100% purchase it.

Kat S.

Yelp
News alert- they are sold out of the Kraft Mac and Cheese flavored items but have several other offerings. I was impressed by the flavor choices and the two chill (pun intended) guys working behind the counter. I got the praline brittle batter to go in a cup AND it was free topping Tuesday so a large squirt of freshly whipped cream adorned this culinary delight!

Carolina S.

Yelp
Incredible ice cream and waffle cone!! We had the Vegan Peanut Butter Brownie Honeycomb and Brown Butter Chai. The server, Angeli, was amazing and super patient with us helping sample flavors. Will be back!

Louise F.

Yelp
I've been psyched to try nyc ice cream places on this visit. I love fun unique flavors and I found that in the honeycomb flavor. They let me sample a bunch before I could finally make up my mind, and while they were all good, I think if I went back, I still wouldn't be able to stop myself from getting honeycomb even a second time. Objectively a bit pricey but since I'm used to similar prices from places like salt and straw, I definitely think it's worth a scoop or 2
