Van Leeuwen Ice Cream

This was my first time trying Van Leeuwen Ice cream. I was very happy with my experience. I went when it wasn’t crowded and was met with great service- the woman helping me let me sample like 5 flavors, which was very patient and kind of her, because I have a hard time making choices… but eventually I did and I didn’t regret my decision at all. I chose chocolate brownie and Marion berry cheesecake. The flavors worked well together and neither were too sweet. And the scoop size was generous which was also great! So yummy!

I've been to this location many times and it's always a winner. The staff is super friendly and helpful navigating the menu (they're also honest about which flavors they enjoy and which they don't). The interior is also spacious, nicely decorated, and has space to sit. The free samples are great (and generous!) and most of the flavors I've tried here are stellar. My go to is the honey comb in a waffle cone... can't be beat. Really delicious ice cream - I just love going here! Will definitely be back for more ice cream especially in the upcoming summer months

They have vegan and non vegan options. Loved the Praline Buttercake Flavor and the Marionberry Cheesecake. Lots of good options. High quality icecream. The big waffle cones are delicious.

Ordered the vegan Planet Earth and was so refreshing and delicious! The color of the “ocean” is so attractive, and so is the “land” made up of matcha cake bits. Get this flavor before they switch it out after spring!

I was definitely surprised to see how many vegan flavors they had. I’ve had their prepackaged ice cream before but tend not to buy it because it’s on the pricier side. However, getting it fresh was a wholly different experience and worth the money. They have both coconut and cashew based vegan ice cream. The coconut based flavors have a strong coconut taste to them, so if you don’t love coconut I’d ask which is which. Either way, both really good. They also have dairy ice cream. There was nothing that I tried that I didn’t like. They did advice that if you have any peanut or wheat allergies there is a strong chance of cross contamination so keep that in mind. I’m allergic to peanuts and took my chances and it was fine.

Anytime I'm on the Lower East side, I stop in for a cone. My most recent visit happened to be on the early side, and was able to walk right to the counter. I do know that later in the day, especially in warm weather, things do get crowded. Even so, the wait is worth it

There’s too many places in New York with “sissy ice creams” where they serve you in tiny bowls and you barely get a taste, but these guys are not one of them. I’m a grown man and they loaded on the scoops. I could hardly finish two scoops. I had the Earth and strawberry cookies flavors, both vegan, and they were unique and great. I’m not vegan, and I actually dream about steak some nights, but I was surprised at how good vegan could be. Took off a star because the prices are a little on the high side, but you really do get your moneys worth.
