Delicious! Love the ice cream here. The service was fast and friendly. We got to taste a few flavors before we ordered the pistachio and the cookies and cream. I would recommend this place.

Best ice-cream I've had in New York so far. Really nice atmosphere inside. Staff were friendly and had a good laugh with us. Menu is clear and well laid out featuring some amazing flavours to enjoy. Went for the wedding cake which had real lumps of sponge mixed through and cookies and cream which was delicious and creamy. Will definitely be returning again.

This place has so many flavors and vegan options! Also the best manager Mo she made my day!! She is the absolute best! Give her a raise ❤️❤️❤️

Teeny tiny place. Fits about 4 tables. But the service is amazing. Expect to pay at LEAST 7 dollars for anything. But the quality is there for sure. If I must say anything it would be, charge… charge what you must, but make sure the quality is 100% there. And here you receive just that. I would come here a lot more often if only ice-cream didn’t have so many calories 🥲. And the service was amazing. This tall cute girl helped me with the nicest face. And she was quick and gave me great recommendations.

Trying my first time Van Leeuwen Ice Cream -at American Dream. So delicious - So creamy. I would definitely come back for another one :)

I'll start off by saying that I am an ice cream enthusiast and this place has ice cream that is off the chain! I really like that they let you sample the various flavors and they encourage it! It's not those cheap little samples; they give you a decent spoonful. The decor is nice and welcoming; you could stay here for a few and get some work done even though it's quite cramped. I had the cookies and cream in a cone and it was delicious. My only complaint is the prices! For one scoop, its about $5 or a little more I believe. I''m a logical thinker so, with that amount of money, I could go but a container of ice cream lol. Nonetheless, I guess you're paying for quality and the experience.

The ice cream is good, no questions about it. The place is small and cute. I visited it on a day big rain and flood hit NY, and as a result I was the only client in there. I placed an order for one scoop, but then decided to have one more. The girl at the counter already scooped the first one, so she put the second one in a separate cup. When I was about to pay, I noticed that I was charged for $13 with change. I asked the girl why, as 2 scoops supposed to be $8 with change. She replied that I ordered 2 scoops. And I pointed to the menu, where the prices are displayed. She said " The 2 scoops have to be in one cup. " Can you place them in the same cup?" , I replied. And so she did! Ta-da! Should not be that hard, should it? It was clear that I was there alone and both scoops were for me, so she should combine them without further instructions, I think. That's the only negative moment. The ice cream was good!

LOVE IT. If you love earl grey tea, you'll love the earl grey ice cream here. I tried the planet earth flavor and it tasted like a mixture of cotton candy and fruit loops with a kulfi aftertaste. I didn't mind it so much but the earl grey ice cream is the real winner in my eyes and taste.

Randomly craved ice cream and stumbled upon Van Leeuwen. I love their flavors but I have to say their strawberry keeps calling me back. It's so fresh, creamy and doesn't taste like fake artificial strawberry (iykyk) the service was super fast and yeah overall 5/5! Try the strawberry ice cream!!

Classic icecream. Got the honeycomb and strawberry quart of icecream. It was buy 2 get 1 free. Service was also pretty good here. They were super nice and offer samples.

Believe the hype! This is some of the best ice cream I've had in a long time. The ice cream was fresh and delicious. You can tell it wasn't sitting in the freezer for months. The staff was cool and they were helping all the customers in a timely fashion. The seating is limited so if you have a large group then you should probably go to a different location. I need to try all the flavors I will absolutely be back.

I stopped in last evening to sample Van Leeuwen goods. I ordered a small cup of Sicilian Pistachio, and I sat down outdoors. The store does not accept cash, and does not offer printed cc receipts. I thought that my gelato was very good, but not worth $8.11 for a tiny bit of Ice Cream. Is everybody in Boerum Hill Rich?

I love their ice cream and the staff is always friendly. Even when it's crowded, they get through the line fairly quickly so the wait is never too bad. Seating inside can be limited when it's busy, but there are extra benches outside if you prefer not to enjoy your ice cream as you walk.

Can't get enough of their ice cream flavors. Bit pricey but you def get what you pay for in terms of quality. The honeycomb is a must-try! While sampling, I unknowingly tried a vegan flavor and it was honestly delicious. Also a huge fan of the fact that they use metal tasting spoons rather than the disposable ones.

I'm in love. They give you samples on metal spoons, which make the ice cream tasting experience much more intimate. I kept thinking they were going to feed me lol. I really loved the earl grey and marionberry cheesecake, but ultimately went with earl grey in a milkshake with oat milk. I didn't try any vegan flavors, but I've heard amazing things about them from vegan friends. Their milkshake can actually be sipped from a straw, but is still thick enough to be a milkshake. The earl grey made it taste like a thick bubble milk tea with condensed milk. Honestly, this is one of the best milkshakes I've ever had. Also, the people that work this location are so friendly. They do a great job of keeping it neat and clean, despite being busy well into the night.

This place can get very busy, and the servers will lose track of who ordered what. I enjoyed the Marionberry cheesecake, but the vegan churros and fudge was lacking flavor.

I usually love this place, and the ice cream is definitely A+, but the blonde female with the 2 braids was super-rude to me on my last visit, more than once. One of the scooping employees asked me what Id like and we discussed strawberry vs. strawberry shortcake. Meanwhile Ms. Braids abruptly ordered me to move over. (There is a way to politely ask a customer to do so.) And she wasnt any friendlier when taking my payment. Usually the employees here are super-nice and friendly. Maybe helping customers isn't for her?

Completely got ripped off. I ordered the mini sundae which is $9.10 with three toppings and somehow it ended up being $17? The ice cream had no flavor and was absolutely not worth the price or hype. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Van Leeuwen's is a solid ice cream spot! They do great vegan and non vegan ice creams, and sell scoops and pints! I love trying their seasonal flavors - in spring 2022, I got the "Earth" flavor (the blue part was spirulina and the green part was matcha almond flavored) and the yuzu sake sorbet. This location does to samples, as of spring 2022. My biggest complaint is that they don't do split scoops on the single scoops. Two scoops were pretty generous though! It was quite pricy, coming to a total of $9.

I mean, this was delicious. I loved the waffle cone, which they make themselves. My ice cream flavor was great, just lacked cookie dough pieces. I got the brown sugar walnut cookie dough flavor, and only had one piece of cookie dough in my entire cone. Still, delicious! And very nice staff.

Just remember you need a card they do not accept cash and if you have cash, there's a machine that will give you a debit card that you can only use within the store.

The ice cream was okay to me, but my daughter loved it; however, I found it to be too expensive. I got my daughter a vanilla cone with one scoop and sprinkles, while I had two scoops and no toppings--the damage was over $15. Aside from my issue with cost, the ice cream melted very quickly. I found myself eating way faster than I would have liked because the ice cream was melting so fast. The ship itself is a quaint location, right near Smith and Bergen Streets. The counter lady was helpful and pleasant and had no issues that way. They have two benches outside the business where you can enjoy your goodies. I would potentially return but again, due to the costs, this wouldn't be my first option for ice cream.

Honey ice cream was delicious!!!! The other flavors were good too but the honey.. oh my

Waffle. Cone. Every. Time. Without fail!!!! Super crunchy and addicting. There's sooo many flavors, toppings and vegan options! Not to mention you can buy pints to go home with their amazing flavors. Personal favorite is the raspberry layer cake that has nice thick chunks of cake that isn't soggy!!!!

Rich ice cream flavor. The locations constantly change the flavors by season so it's always a new experience from prior. Have the ice cream with the sampling metal spoons for extra special tasting experiencing.

I really recommend this store in particular, they are more friendly and attentive! I felt at home they are beautiful Yam! I am also Latino and the treatment was great! Although I don't speak much English, they really are great! to the other stores that are 11 minutes away that's the worst here they are not like that! I recommend this ice cream parlor, the vegan ice creams are the most delicious in Brooklyn! ! Realmente recomiendo esta tienda en particular, son más amables y atentos! Me sentí como en casa son hermosos Yam! Yo también soy latino y el trato fue genial! Best quality ice cream hands down! This was my first time stopping at a Van Leeuween store. I usually get their pints from the supermarket, but my experience was equally as great! Staff are friendly, lots of flavors to choose from, and taste great!

I come here often solo or with my family. We often will walk over here after dinner for dessert. It's a popular location for the neighborhood and the staff is always friendly and accomodating. I recently tried the earth day flavor and was a bit unsure of the marzipan. It turned out to be quite subtly flavored. My favorite will always be the earl grey.

Just off of Smith street in Bergen this Van Leeuwen has been a favorite spot of mine for years. Interesting flavors and first class artisanal ice cream. 5 stars!

Van Leeuwen's has been one of my go to spots since the pandemic has erupted. I have been to 2 locations in Bk but my favorite is on Vanderbilt. However, I did just discover a location in Soho on a drive by. Im assuming they are a chain of some sort. My favorite is the vegan chocolate. It is delicious. Pleaseeee try it. I usually get it with chocolate sprinkles. One scope does the trick for me. I once tried the vegan cookies & cream with caramel swirl in a rebellious stage and immediately reverted back to my chocolate scope. However, I do encourage you to venture off and try one of their monthly specials. Whoever I'm with is generally willing to try something new. Sorry no dine in or out options. Grab you cookie, shake, coffee, ice cream and go. The staff is generally kind and the place is clean. Touch less payments available.

What I love most about Van Leeuwen is all the options. There is a long list of very fun flavors and half of that list is dairy free. Sometimes it's hard to find a good dessert spot that everyone can find something at but Van Leeuwen always has alternatives that are just as delicious as the dairy options! It's a go to ice cream spot and I've never had something I didn't like! I also love that they stay open later than a lot of other ice cream places so that I can run over last minute! They do run out of flavors by the end of the day but I can assure you even if something awesome is out, you're going to love your second choice as well! A little expensive but it's quality ice cream!

This is one of my top 5 ice cream places. Van Leeuwen is a great place to grab a scoop or two of ice cream from and just stroll through the streets while chatting with a friend. It's really hard to find good quality ice cream made with quality ingredients, so I don't mind the price. I ended up getting a vanilla scoop of ice cream with sprinkles. The ice cream was amazing, as it always is. The service was quick and present!

Atmosphere: This place is pretty small, so don't bet on sitting down to eat your ice cream. We were lucky enough to snag one of the indoor tables. Service: Standard service. Our ice cream came out quickly. Food: We ordered the Classic Sundae. The portion was on the smaller side, but Van Leeuwen got the classic flavors right. They weren't too sweet or too artificial. However, the hot fudge slightly overpowered the rest of the ice cream. Overall: Van Leeuwen is a great choice for ice cream in the area. We'd come back to try more of their flavors and sundaes.

First time trying Van Leeuwen - although have seen the pints being sold in nearby groceries stores for half the price as the pints sitting in the fridge of this storefront. We still wanted to try it in store on this warm day. I had their seasonal flavor, Tiki Paradise (mango-pineapple and guava-coconut ice creams swirled together), which was refreshing, sweet with a slight tartness. Husband got the Oak Milk and Cookies, which was way too sweet and sticky, like heavy caramel; he stubbornly insisted he loves his flavor choice but halfway through, asked me to hold his cone so he can take a water break. That's right, because that cloying sweetness you love is gluing up your throat, isn't it? Easy to find seats on a weekday afternoon. Service was friendly. Would love to try other flavors (just not Oat Milk and Cookies for me).

I can't get enough of this place. Hard to find vegan and gluten-free especially ice cream. This is not just a get vanilla or chocolate, flavors the combinations are incredible. Your taste buds will thank you over and over again with every bite with every spoonful with every lick. They let you sample if you're not sure if you'll like the combination of any of their flavors. Be aware parking is not easy but where is there in downtown Brooklyn.

So what if: *This was my very first visit to any Van Leeuwen *Nearly all classic flavors were sold out at 9:30 PM *The line moved slowly (as we all asked for samples of other flavors) and it was quite warm inside *My poor feet hurt way too much *I selected a vegan flavor (I am not a vegan) for this first visit and review * The price was above average (it's artisanal after all) Because: After a couple samples of other flavors, the Dark Matter hit the spot. And that's just what I ordered. It's the vegan version of their honeycomb flavor dipped in activated charcoal. Yes, it sounds like a science project, but it was pretty damn good. And yes, I can and will give this rating to my ice cream flavor (even if you think it's not the "real" thing). It was good, creamy, not too sweet and maybe---kind of-- indistinguishable when identifying the prominent flavor/s. But good. Still, I enjoyed the experience (it was also cool to eat something that didn't resemble anything conventional) made sweeter in the company of fellow Elite Yelper & friend Cristina G. I will return to one of their locations again aiming to try the Earl Grey. Sweet.

A lot has changed since the first time I walked through these doors. Ice cream brands everywhere have been trying to slip weird substitute ingredients and other curveballs by us, so I've developed a much greater appreciation for the consistently high quality of Van Leeuwen's ice cream. Like I said previously, there's nothing better on a hot night than sharing an quality cone with your third best girl. My former third best girl is now my wife, and she still doesn't think it's funny that I ever referred to her as my third best girl. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The flavors here are still amazing, probably because they're all made with fresh milk and cream, cane sugar, and egg yolks. The salted caramel. The earl grey. The honeycomb. The cookies and cream. All fantastic. (The vegan ice cream is also allegedly incredible, but I can't really speak to that.) However, my wife often orders chocolate, an abomination vastly inferior to vanilla-based ice cream. She's pregnant so she gets what she wants, but if she ever stopped ordering crap ice cream flavors maybe she could get promoted to my second best girl. It's still true that this ice cream is too expensive. It works out to $8 or so (with tip) for a waffle cone with one scoop, which I think is insanity...until I eat it [and remember what rents are around here]. Not only is the ice cream top quality, but the waffle cones are fresh (pretty sure they are made by Van Leeuwen), and as good as any waffle cone can possibly be. I apologize if I ever doubted you, Van Leeuwen. I will come back for more ice cream this summer, and all other summers. Probably with my third best girl.

Really like this location, it's cute, clean and the staff is very nice. They usually have a lot of different flavors in pints packed to go, which is pretty convenient. I love trying vegan flavors as those are pretty challenging to get right, and I think Van Leeuwen does a pretty good job. The ice cream is on the sweeter and richer side overall. Nice flavor selection and I love their waffle cone.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! After reading about the wonders of the honeycomb flavored ice cream, I became hell-bent on trying it. Who doesn't like crunchy honeycomb?? But when I realized Van Leeuwen was a chain, doubts began to creep in. And sure enough, there was no crunch, just a sickeningly sweet flavored dud of a cone. And $7.50??? I want my money back!!!!

Things I can't live without in the summer: ice cream (even if there is no dairy in it) and other sweet cold treats. Things I CAN live without: the attitude at this location. I came here to taste their Vegan flavors for the first time one afternoon and noticed most of their Vegan flavors were sold out. I asked which ones were still available to try (only 2) so I asked to try them both and got an eye roll. Okay, I can ignore that. When I asked what's in the Dark Matter flavor (since it's not listed anywhere), I was stared at as if I was an alien from another planet, as if I should have done my research in advance and walked in with a notebook containing my findings. This was obviously outrageous of me to ask and I never got a straight answer, so I went with the only other Vegan flavors- the PB&J which was actually delightful. When I got to the counter to pay, I asked again and was told the Dark Matter was made with coconut. How cool! I asked what made it black, since that's confusing, and AGAIN, silly me. I didn't bring my thesis paper on their flavors. Left there not knowing and not wanting to come back to this location. I'm a pretty cheery person and dairy-free ice cream options make me happy. The service here did not. No thanks!

Whether it's hot or cold, I'm always down for some ice cream. Van Leeuwen is conveniently located few minutes away from class so definitely can pop by whenever I have cravings for ice cream. They have tons of vegan options. So far all that I have tried had been amazinggggg. My friends who are non vegan but are lactose intolerant enjoyed their ice cream as well. They have options for everyone.

High prices plus cashless policy. Plus too much sugar- especially for the vegan treats. They seem to be catering toward a certain type of well heeled customer, which doesn't include me anymore unfortunately!

The cold brew shake is so good that I would even get it at night. It is my favorite ice cream shop of all time. Highly recommend!

Came here for the ice cream and loved the vegan Peanut Butter Bam (one of their specials). The kids scoop is enough to get rid of your craving! The place has limited seating. The service was excellent and the people working were really friendly. Highly recommend this place for ice cream.

Late night ice cream craving.... van Leeuwen hit the spot! They have a bunch of different ice cream flavors ranging from early gray to your traditional flavors. The sesame ash chocolate cake was really good and they also have a huge vegan selection which is pretty great and unique(not many places cater to vegans). At almost $6 a scoop do you expect anything less??Topping are $1 extra. They do offer free water, which tastes like warm grossness but if your thirsty I guess.... Don't be shy to sample away! There pints are pricy in store.. if you want to save they sell them at Whole Foods and occasionally you can catch them for sale for around 7 a container and they taste exactly the same... Definitely a solid good ice cream spot. No outdoor seating. Parking is a biatch...

My favorite is Royal Wedding Cake pricey but soo good. When that ice cream comes out I'm there!!

You a five star chick, a five star chick. No but seriously, van Leeuwen, you are. I've been to four locations now, and you're all pretty great. Pricey, DEFINITELY. I mean one scoop for $6.50? But you've turned into our family outing dessert ritual wherever we dine. If in Manhattan, we hit up the Greenwich village or East village location. This particular day we were having dinner in Carroll Gardens and discovered this Boerum Hill location--score! We somehow always get right in before the line grows out the door. I always get the pistachio, which is amazing. The other flavors haven't quite had an impression on me. I did try the vegan flavors and the texture was too gritty for me. But that pistachio! Only wish is that they perhaps had a Guinness flavor? Or a rum and raisin. My mom is Caribbean and likes what she likes. But that just may not be up their avenue.

We shared the brown chunk and the cookie crumble with raspberry swirls. Certainly interesting flavors. I was hoping for a more creamy texture and a more rich flavor, but they do deserve a lot of credit for making the ice cream vegan friendly. Lots of seating in front.

I just hate how late I ate all of this but let's just say I finished my Sundae in one sitting. It was THAT good. I have to stay away from dairy so not only do they have multiple options for vegans but also it's delicious! Some dairy-free ice cream out there tastes basic/bland but the options here are endless.

Sometimes you have to give in and go all out at the slightly overpriced ice cream shop you've been eyeing for weeks. And you *might* have to get three scoops on a cone for something like $10 (it's fine, I was "sharing" with my boyfriend). But, no regrets because what other ice cream shops look this beautiful? A window wall and a Van Leeuwen logo laid against a rustic wooden backdrop? I guess they have to pay for this place somehow. Also no regrets because this is quite possibly the best ice cream I may have ever had. I'm considering replacing my weekend bagel splurge with this place instead. And, if I'm being completely honest, I ("we") just HAD to get three scoops to try out the different flavors. I would've actually regretted it if I didn't do this. I tried the espresso (SO GOOD, so rich and real in the actual espresso flavor), the vegan chocolate chip cookie dough (also amazing - I don't think I've ever had vegan ice cream, but I loved this just as much as the others and there were HUGE chunks of cookie dough), and the cookies & cream (dare I say, this almost needed MORE ice cream and less cookie... I know, I know, I'm losing all credibility here). I'm counting down the days until I go back here. I fell into the hype and am now a lifelong Van Leeuwen customer. Four stars because it's so expensive I can't go every day, but I probably shouldn't anyway. *rolls eyes*

Love Van Leeuwen's! Super delicious, top notch quality ice cream. I'm sure there are people who live in places like Vermont or Maine that might disagree, but idc about them right now. I thought Carvel's wasn't the sh*t until I upgraded my life in adulthood and found a gem like this spot. Today, I had their vegan 'ginger lemon poppy crumble' and my mouth watering before the spoon even hit my tongue. It was silky, lemony, and creamy but without the cow puss. I couldn't have been more grateful! Thanks for making my Saturday afternoon, Van Leeuwen's!

Expensive and worth it! Wish they had more vegan options but the ones they do have are sooo good.

This place is so cute and quaint. Very tight on space inside though. They have regular and vegan options. Their ice creams were delicious, i tried a few and loved some flavors and was indifferent about others. The strawberry was the most amazing strawberry ice cream i have ever had. It tasted like the smoothest, silkiest of ice creams. I wasn't crazy about the chocolate as it was super dense, good but very dense (and i love chocolate). Disappointments: their whipped cream tasted very cheap next to the gourmet ice cream i was eating, more like a canned product, dislike. My one friend got a waffle cone which was drastically undercooked and rubbery, she had to switch the cone to a bowl. The sprinkles were hard and crunchy as rocks, can't really see how a kid could eat these, you could probably break a tooth eating them, i was super surprised here. The shape and color of the sprinkles were cute though. The ice cream was also drastically overpriced. To top this off they had all the plastic used spoons in spoon containers and people were taking the used spoons for their ice cream not paying attention to the sign. My two friends did this and we watched a few others take used spoons thinking they were new, ew, gross.

I always pick on the high-end ice cream spots in DC for charging so much for one scoop. When, after a year of my sister saying "You need to try this place!", I finally stepped into this place to give their ice cream a shot and saw the prices, I was ready to clown. But when I entered the place, I was intrigued by the variety! And I loved the fact that the vegan ice creams are not made of soy. Instead they use coconut and cashews. I sampled several flavors... I was expecting to be blown away by the Brown Sugar Snickerdoodle, but it didn't have as much spice as I was hoping for! The Blueberry Pie was good, but I was absolutely blown away when I tried the Oat Milk Chocolate Crunch. I had to get a scoop of it. Not only is it the best flavor of vegan ice cream I have ever had, it is one of the best flavors of ice cream I have had period. There was what tasted like oatmeal cookie dough in it, and the chocolate crunch really perfected the texture. The coconut flavors also set it off. I was really pleased. One problem though: it's a special edition flavor, which means there were no pints for sale! I would've taken home a pint in a heartbeat! And this also means they won't have the flavor around forever! Someone please fix that! FIX IT! That being said, I had a wonderful experience at this ice cream shop. Their non-dairy and dairy options are both excellent.
