Google
The ice cream was yummy, refreshing, and delicious. It reminded me of most other ice cream shops, nothing really stood out as unique, but I still enjoyed it. I loved the vibes and the interior, and the service was great! Here are my ratings: • Cookies and cream 8/10 • Vanilla bean 8/10 • Dark chocolate fudge brownie 10/10 • Praline butter cake 8/10

Google
I stumbled into the store one night after grabbing some burgers with my boyfriend. We split a double scoop with the marion berry cheesecake and mango sticky rice flavors. Both were so good and unique! The worn that there’s pretty limited seating inside the restaurant, but there’s also seating outside. The staff was really kind and let us try multiple favors before we settled on these two.

Google
I first tasted it at the grocery market and it was so delicious that I searched for it on Instagram and followed it. I thought I should go to the store in New York since there is one. I was so happy to see the store today. The friendly staff explained the menu and sampled it. I chose my favorite dark cherry and white chocolate raspberry ice cream. It was so delicious. I have to go back next time.

We’re visiting from Florida and this ice cream in a hot July summer was exactly what we needed. Love the decoration and all the colors of the shop! Thank for the great service!

Google
Visited Van Leeuwen's for the first time on Thursday, July 17th. We went in the early evening and there was only one party of 6 in front of us, so it wasn't much of a wait. I loved the yellow walls, the art on the wall, and their story they had posted. The staff was very friendly and let me try multiple things so I could make the best decision. I settled on sweet corn and blueberry jam in a waffle cone. I ordered one scoop and that was plenty for me. I ate dinner an hour before so it was a good size for dessert. The flavor of the ice cream and the cone were perfect. 10/10 recommend. My partner ordered two scoops of the mango sorbet. I didn't like the tartness of it, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. There is not much seating inside but we were able to find some stools to sit on. It was way too hot to sit outside and I didn’t even see the seating out. I hear they have many locations. If you have a chance go check them out, it is delicious ice cream and vibes.

Google
Cute place, friendly service, and truly great ice cream! I had one scoop of dark chocolate brownie, and my husband had the mango sorbet — both were absolutely delicious. Definitely worth the calories and the experience!

Google
My first time visiting in DC and decided to stop in for a sweet cold treat. The customer service I received from both Chloe and Amani was exceptional. The honeycomb flavor was beyond superb whenever visiting again I’ll definitely be planning another visit!!

Google
Visited Saturday after lunch and the place was bustling but the staff did such a great job! We tried a few of the flavors and overall was delicious :) - Turtle Treat Sundae (praline butter cake ice cream, salted caramel sauce, honey almonds and chocolate curls). This was SOOO good! The sweetness is well balanced by the salted caramel and the texture of the nuts/choco curls made it even better! Good to share between 2-3 people - Mango sticky rice + Vanilla Bean (the vanilla bean was so rich and creamy. I will definitely come back to get this again. The mango sticky rice was not bad, less fruity and more creamy flavors coming through. I think I was hoping for more fruit flavors but definitely tasted like mango sticky rice.

Yelp
We stopped in for some vegan ice cream. The shop was pretty busy when we arrived. The line was almost out the door. One thing I know for sure is that this brand is consistently good. Before visiting their brick and mortar locations, I discovered their pre-packaged ice cream at Whole Foods, and quickly became a fan. Since my discovery of the Van Leeuwen brand, the vegan ice cream has been good consistently. The regular ice cream is very good as well, especially the honeycomb flavor. For an occasional treat, the ice cream is worth the price. The ambiance is cute. The service is not bad at all. There are sidewalk cafe tables set up outside. I am not sure if the tables are shared by Van Leeuwen and Blank Street, are separate and/or public, but on the day that we visited, the tables were filthy. Apparently, some customers did not think it was appropriate to clear the tables after using it. My question was and is, who is responsible for clearing the tables, customers or staff?
google avatar

AJ S.

Yelp
Prettty good ice cream that comes with a 7.50$ price tag for a very small single scoop. Comparable texture profile and creaminess to Ben & Jerry's but wouldn't put it at the top of the list for unique flavors or decadence for price. Workers weren't the friendliest and seemed annoyed to hand out samples (I'll chalk it up to it being slightly busy). Very limited seating at this location so expect to enjoy your scoop on the go while walking. Glad we got to try it, but probably wouldn't return as there are so many other places to dive into that were a bit better.
google avatar

Beth K.

Yelp
Busy establishment, delicious ice cream. Got a milkshake with the earl grey flavor ice cream. It was expensive, but absolutely scrumptious. It was clean, despite lots of foot traffic. Menu was easy to read.

Yelp
Was looking for a late night sweet treat while in Georgetown and Van Leeuween came up as being open late. Stopped by for a scoop, but a double was only ~$1 more, so I figured why not. The line was out the door when we arrived, but the line moved quickly Decided on the sweet corn & blueberry jam and Bigface coffee affogato, but got a scoop of the Sicilian pistachio instead of the affogato. Didn't realize it until after I paid, sat down, and starting eating my scoops. Not a big deal as the pistachio flavor was going to be my next pick. Of the two flavors I got, I preferred the sweet corn & blueberry jam more as I could taste the flavor come through more. The pistachio was just okay to me. Both scoops definitely satisfied my sweet tooth, though. There's a few tables inside for you to enjoy your ice cream, but it could get a little cramped if the store is busy.
google avatar

Iva N.

Yelp
Needed to satisfy our sweet tooth after a show around gtown so here we are. There were quite a bit of ppl when we got there, but moved pretty quickly. Opted in for Bigface Coffee Affogato and Sicilian Pistachio, both were delicious. Bonus point that they let me put my medium 2 scoops order in a large cup :)-- thank you!

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of Van Leeuwen's, and it seems like me and everybody else have the same idea to get a sweet treat on a hot Sunday in Georgetown. I tried one of their seasonal flavors, the blue jasmine and passionfruit, which was a little intriguing at first, but I really enjoy the contrast of the tart passionfruit with the floral jasmine. That being said, I feel like the service at this establishment could've been much improved. While I acknowledge that they were likely understaffed, it seems like the workflow was kind of convoluted and at times all workers were scooping ice cream, and there was nobody to check people out, leading to further delays. I luckily wasn't in a rush, so I didn't mind waiting, but the family behind me was very impatient, and it was frustrating to see that there were a line of people holding their ice cream, simply waiting to pay. Of note, there are a few cute tables outside and a bench for seating, as well as a small bar and table inside for those who don't want to take their ice cream on the go.
google avatar

Kia D.

Yelp
Great ice cream with fun flavors AND waffle cones and bowls. This season's sour cherry and cream flavor lives rent free in my head! I wish the space allowed for better ease of use- three people at the counter while others are jumbled at the door. One server had a friendly countenance/smile. VL is our happy place, but doesn't feel as happy with straight faced workers. An off Tuesday, perhaps?
google avatar

James Q.

Yelp
Great service and great environment overall. There is a decent amount of seating, so we sat and ate our ice cream for a while. Van Leeuwen is a DC classic for a reason.
google avatar

Bradley L.

Yelp
Solid ice cream, but just a little overpriced. There are tons of ice cream spots across the DMV that are high quality but more affordable, especially since Van Leeuwen pints go for cheaper in grocery stores than they do in their actual stores. They have some solid non-dairy ice cream options here. One of the complaints I had was the area in general has a mosquito problem, so naturally they can enter the store. I got bit twice while in line for ice cream(while inside)
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
I came in for a mid day sweet treat and staff was probably the best part of the whole thing, really sweet and letting me try a flavor. I went with the blueberry corn flavor, as they were all sold out of the Mango sticky rice flavor I really wanted. I added sprinkles and it cost almost $10 for one scoop (though it is a large scoop). I will say I was pretty disappointed - the flavor in a full scoop was super icy and almost freezer burn ish. I did not finish my first and only ice cream as it was just too icy and grainy (more from the ice then the corn). Maybe it was unique just to that flavor but was a let down.
google avatar

Nancy M.

Yelp
Really solid ice cream place! Good location, good little treat while you're doing some shopping in Georgetown. They have lots of flavors, you'll find something you like. The scoops are LARGE. My friend and I were both going to get a scoop each, but they were really nice and recommended we get two scoops because it's cheaper than individually getting scoops. Nice of them to say! Make sure you walk while you eat, the ice cream is rich and heavy.
google avatar

Brinny S.

Yelp
Great little ice cream spot with some unique and tasty flavors. I came last night with a couple friends and there was a line out the door at 11pm. I tried a couple different flavors, and they were all really good. I got a scoop of the honeycomb in a cup, and it was the perfect amount for me. It is a little pricey, but well worth it for a sweet treat!
google avatar

Jose P.

Yelp
I have a little lactose intolerance, so I avoid milk as much as possible. However, this is one place I go when I am ready to cheer (once in a blue moon). Everything here is amazingly good, but I especially love the Affogato ice cream. The only thing better is an actual affogato at an Italian restaurant. This is worth trying if you are into ice cream (or even if you're not). The store is small, and there is very little seating available.
google avatar

Cecilia A.

Yelp
We stopped by this ice cream shop on a rainy day and it was so good. We had the coffee affogato and the ice cream cake. Perfect sweet taste. There are so many exotic flavors, not the regular vanilla or chocolate. They also have the vegan ice cream choice. The server was very nice. The place is well decorated and I love their logo "A life without anything good is bad".
google avatar

Mary N.

Yelp
The line was out the door, however all the employees were pretty quick! We didn't wait long. I love that they were dog friendly, and pupcups were available to purchased! They had tons of flavors to pick from, and we were surprised that the dairy free flavors were actually good!
google avatar

Aarti B.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream, so glad another location opened up in Gtown! It's a bit tucked away and easy to miss, it's right off of Wisconsin Ave with a few chairs for outdoor seating. There are about 15 flavors to choose from with a few seasonal flavors. I enjoyed a scoop of the new Ice Cream Cake flavor, which tastes like Oreo Party cake. Service was great and looking forward to coming back!
google avatar

Ian N.

Yelp
Brown Sugar Cookie Dough Brownie (5/5): Very creamy ice cream. Cookie dough pieces were amazing and actually tasted like real cookie dough instead of "ice cream cookie dough" (I liked how it had the grainy cookie dough texture). Pretty big scoop too! RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)
google avatar

Li J.

Yelp
Cool place to get ice cream. It was relatively fresh, but really nothing special. This store is generally expensive. There are some chairs outside, but the mosquitoes were swarming. We were bitten several times. I likely would not return.
google avatar

Kimberly S.

Yelp
Staff was friendly and they do samples! The area is a bit cramped, but that's typical for the neighborhood so this is definitely a grab and go spot, but the quality and selection of flavors was outstanding.
google avatar

Alea V.

Yelp
I got the vegan ice cream and it was really good. It was a lot creamier and flavorful than I was expecting. I was surprised that I couldn't order while they were handing out samples to other people. One person was at the register and one scooped the ice cream. If both people scooped and rang people up it would go twice as fast. The place has some seating, but not much. The cups are easy to eat on the go in case you want to walk around. I would visit here again, I took away half a star because there was only one vegan flavor and half a star because it's pretty expensive for what you get.
google avatar

Brianna R.

Yelp
We stopped at Van Leeuwen's after a long and exciting day exploring DC. I have seen Van Leeuwen's pints at the grocery store, but never had a chance to try them. When we arrived, we were greeted by a very long line. The line did not move particularly quickly. This shop was quite different from other ice cream shops that I have visited, as they have strange and eclectic flavors to choose from. I settled on the Marionberry cheesecake flavor with rainbow sprinkles. It was great! This definitely inspired me to try some of their pints upon returning home.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Cool place to get ice cream in Georgetown! Friendly staff. Great ice cream. Central location to shopping in the area.
google avatar

Delana A.

Yelp
Love Van Leeuwen's !! They never disappoint & always have great vegan options ! Though the line does get a little long at this location , they typically know how to handle the rush :)
google avatar

Paolo D.

Yelp
This will be a short review. If you are looking for a good vegan ice cream this is the place. There is a long line so be prepare to wait. The staff here are not friendly, but it didn't bother us. They do have a few different vegan flavors.
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
I visited Van Leeuwen Ice Cream one evening with a friend. There was a line, but it was definitely worth the wait. The ice cream lives up to its reputation--super flavorful yet light and not heavy. I had a small scoop of vanilla bean, and even though it's a simple flavor, it was absolutely incredible. If you're thinking about stopping by, I highly recommend it. The lines are there for a reason, and the ice cream is worth every minute of the wait.
google avatar

susie K.

Yelp
OMG!!! This place made me so happy. I can't tell you how many times I have sadly walked out of a place because I can't find gluten-free and vegan. I was not disappointed here. Service was super friendly and helpful. Vegan Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownie?! Really?! So creamy and delicious. The space has a few tables with seats so we enjoyed our treats in the A/C before heading back out into the hot and humid swamp.
google avatar

Irfan M.

Yelp
Ice cream was good but the cookie was really hard. Customer service was good! I did love the decor.
google avatar

Catalina M.

Yelp
Charming ice cream shop with creative flavors. I finally made in in this shop. Was definitely more expensive than I was expecting but think they have a quality product. I sampled an ice cream, but ultimately decided on a root beer float generously packed with vanilla and paired with Maine Root root beer. Perfection.
google avatar

Anushka M.

Yelp
Lots of unique flavors with a large vegan menu too. I've seen their pints at grocery stores but never tried Van Leeuwen. When we came it wasn't too busy. They recently opened their Georgetown location and are partnering with Baked and Wired by releasing a limited edition Dirty Chai Cupcake flavor. Unfortunately they were out when we came, but I hope to try that soon. We ended up getting one scoop of the brown sugar cookie dough brownie; the small size, and two scoops with the vegan strawberry shortcake and cookies and cream; the medium. Looking back we should have gotten the 3 scoop size and combined our order. Would have saved us around $4. It is on the pricier side, and no half scoops to get two flavors in the small size. The workers were friendly and allowed us to sample flavors. They are also currently giving free stickers near the register. Other flavors that looked good was their marionberry cheesecake, all the cookies, and of course the dirty chai cupcake. Hope to try one of those soon!
google avatar

Takia C.

Yelp
Decent ice cream. Great customer service . My only complaint is the hair with no hair net . Especially when the servers head goes completely into the ice cream case to scoop . Chairs inside and out. Small place but gets job done .
google avatar

Neha G.

Yelp
Small shop in Georgetown with a few seats inside. Ice cream is expensive at $8 for one scoop, but a nice treat once in a while. I like that they have a vegan flavor or two on rotation. I tried the vegan planet earth, which was excellent. Tasted like almond with a hint of cherry? Not too sweet and good quality ice cream. We were lucky the line wasn't too long on a Wednesday night after 9pm. No restrooms and no wifi.
google avatar

Christian B.

Yelp
Worker was nice. Got mint chip and cookies & cream and both were good. Whipped cream and hot fudge on top were yummy and decorative. Solid ice cream shop! Shop has 3 tables with two chairs each and a counter facing the street with 4 seats and a nice picnic table with spots for 6. Quiet rock hits playing in background to keep it from being awkward but not overpowering by any means.
google avatar

Michael O.

Yelp
I ordered an 8 dollar plus one scooper of new dirty chai flavor x collab with baked and wired on a sugar cone. Not worth the money since the scoops seemed smaller than usual. Anyway, I hope they make this flavor available in pints at the supermarket.

Idara M.

Yelp
Location is tough, but once inside, the whimsical look is comforting. Love their vegan strawberry shortcake ice cream.
google avatar

Teresa R.

Yelp
Even though the ice cream is amazing- the service is not! Yesterday the line was super long, into the street. Only one server was scooping the ice cream and serving customers. The other worker was doing everything but. She went to clean a table where people were still eating, rushing them to finish. When it was my time to order, she finally came around to the registers and as she was about to take my order, her friend showed up and she stepped aside to have a full on conversation for about 5 minutes. Meanwhile, the only server had to take my order at the same time she took the other in her own registers. That place is popular. It needs a minimum of two people at the registers at ALL time in the weekend
google avatar

Madison B.

Yelp
Fantastic ice cream, and an in-store visit is well worth it if you're looking to try some unique flavors not (yet) available in pint. I recommend sticking to the scoops--I was in the mood for a milkshake, but the milkshake slightly watered down (or "milked down") the flavor of the ice cream, making it more mild than what I was hoping for. This might have been a mistake on my end or an issue with the milk-to-ice cream ratio in their shakes. Just be mindful on your next visit! You can do no wrong ordering their scoops!
google avatar

Lexy P.

Yelp
Yummy icecream and they're really nice about helping you pick your flavor and any food allergies
google avatar

Stella K.

Yelp
The ice cream is good but it is very expensive for the portion size. I would rather buy a pint of their ice cream from the grocery store as it didn't taste any different in store. There is very limited seating inside and a couple small tables outside.
google avatar

Robert W.

Yelp
Great service ; employees are always super nice. Prices seem to have went up though. $20 for two ice creams is insane! Great area for ice cream and strolling. All around 8/10
google avatar

Liv G.

Yelp
Expesnive for ice cream but so good. I'm so happy they put this in here, I loveee their ice cream. Easy in and out and they let you sample. No complaints besides the price, but what snot expensive these days. Cute little inside store pretty small. Servers were nice.
google avatar

Iris P.

Yelp
got the Brown Sugar Cookie Dough Brownie and dirty chai cupcake ($10). tastes good, but for the price they charge, it should be the best ice cream ive ever had. unfortunately it was not. jennis for the win.
google avatar

Julia E.

Yelp
The works were efficient and friendly. I'd highly recommend. They had a wide variety of vegan flavors. I enjoyed the vegan strawberry shortcake, as well as the vegan cookies and cream caramel.
google avatar

Jude J.

Yelp
2 stars for quality ice cream.. Negative 5 stars for the rude employee. We were not greeted upon walking in. Brought my toddler who just recently got into milkshakes. We looked at the flavors (didn't sample anything) the highly annoyed employee ROLLED HIS EYES at our order of one flavor milkshake. I'm super disappointed in your staff and won't return, unless I notice on Yelp that things have improved in the customer service area of this business. Minimal seating inside but clean and a nice view onto the street. There's a reason why "Thomas Sweet" the ice cream shop up the road constantly has a line out their door. They've got a friendly staff.
google avatar

Stuart F.

Yelp
Ice cream was good, but not worth the prices they charge. (The flavor probably would have come out better if they kept the ice cream at a slightly higher temperature.) No cash accepted loses a star.

Maria A.

Yelp
Expensive but definitely worth the splurge every once in a while. The icecream texture is like no other and the flavors are balanced really well. Their pistachio icecream is subtle but good and the workers were super nice and patient with giving samples. Definitely recommend

Camilla R.

Yelp
Great service super friendly and made my experience even more enjoyable. Adorable shop as well. Ice cream was delicious! Must try!

Kiara V.

Yelp
My second time here and it was great, Ice cream was very filling and tasted amazing! Very clean environment and service was quick. Very welcoming staff.
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
Nice spot for late evening snack. Unique flavors and creamy ice cream. I had the affogato, and my wife had honeycomb.

Buenos N.

Yelp
Very expensive and portions are not generous for the price. The ice cream tastes good though, and the flavors are unique. The cherry chocolate chip ice cream is amazing.
