It was pretty good. Nothing blew me apart, but it wasn’t bad either. A solid above average, I would say. The spot itself is quite cozy and small, and the hospitality was on point. we got the trout dip, but I couldn’t really tell the trout in the dip. The chicken wings were pretty nice with a nice kick to it. we got the brownie with the ice cream, which again was pretty good. I think my favourite had to be the churros, which came in a nice cinnamon sugar coating. The cocktails were pretty delicious I have to say.

Great spot! Had the Chili, dry rub wings, chicken tinga taco and short rib taco. Enjoyed every bit of it - and the service was excellent too. It’s clear they use high quality meat. Both our tacos were served on corn tortillas - with a more smoky/bbq flavor rather than traditional Mexican. We enjoyed them thoroughly. Great option for gluten free people, The wings are friend with no cross contamination (or batter). The chili contains grass fed beef and marrow. Loved it.

What a hidden Gem of a place. Bar tender was so nice. Quiet little place that has a little shop that sells thier own most delicious stuff. Bloody Mary and smoked Mac and cheese were amazing

Google
we ordered a bunch of stuff, and sadly- it was mostly disappointing. the best thing we got were the wings- we got the buffalo and the thai dry rub. Both were really tasty! We tried a bunch of the tacos, and they were all disappointing- except the chicken tinga. While the meat was good quality and had lots of potential, all the tacos were unseasoned and under-sauced. there was little to no flavor in all of the tacos we tried. The pastrami was super dry and underwhelming. The hot dog was okay, but nothing special. The waitstaff was super friendly- we had high expectations, but ultimately left disappointed.

We stopped here on the way back to the city and let me tell you I am still thinking about the smoked trout dip. I want to drown in that stuff it was so freaking good. Plus it came with the perfect amount of crackers and bread. We also got the burger and the special lamb birrira taco and while the meat was obviously quality, it definitely needed more seasoning. The service was also absolutely fantastic. Our waitress was also the bartender and she was an absolute doll. I will definitely find my way back here for that smoked trout dip.

This place is NOT good! I went online to look for restaurants in our area open on a Thursday and came across this AWESOME website! Don't be fooled! It's NOT a restaurant just a bar. The bartender was amazing but the food was just horrible! We ordered a $21 valentine day burger with crab... No one asked how we'd like it done and we got a small burnt , dry burger with potato chips on the side for $21.00! ...at least have fries on the side. We also ordered the short rib tacos and it was evidently old and re-fired, making it crispy and dry. It was the WORST taco I ever had in my life! It cost me $7.00, usually cost $8 for ONE taco! I ordered because I thought they'd be amazing at that price. I blame myself for not saying anything and paying the bill. I'm not into confrontation and was only trying to eat local and support the local Sullivan County community. VAN SMOKEY MEAT SHOP restaurant? & bar is a place I will Never go again! BE forewarned! Bar person was awesome as well as the Margaritas but they were a little on the smaller side.

We’ve been a number of times as we live in the area. It’s always been pretty good but our experience this weekend was extremely disappointing. We waited for 45 mins after ordering and then told there had been a “mix up” The special of the day soup and taco were cold the taco burnt….and all served with a huge amount of attitude. Never again…

First time to this restaurant. Came with friends to Roscoe. Mac n Cheese with short rib was good. Shrimp and Lamb tacos were not. Not your typical Mexican tacos.

Yelp
Stopped in to meet up with some friends a few weeks ago. Very friendly place. I tend to be a chatty person so it didn't take long to meet everyone there and join in conversations. Carol Ann behind the bar was great. Came in again the other day and met some other nice people. This time Alicia was behind the bar. She was very friendly and fun to chat with. Great beer selection and brisket sandwich hit the spot. Great local spot!!

Yelp
We had a group of 7 that had a great time at Van Smokey tonight. The staff were very welcoming, giving us several options for seating. Very friendly team working there and service was very good. The food was even better. From the dry rub wings, the tacos to the pulled pork....and the cocktails - everyone left full and satisfied. Very happy to finally make it here and will be back, for sure

Yelp
Dont generally give 5 star ratings ... been here twice place is great. Barmaid fantastic makes great drinks solid beer selection and food is on point. We have high bar on wings they were crispy and tasty, nice kick. Had basically every taco all fantastic with lamb birria topping the heap. Great atmosphere everyone we engaged with was cool So 5 stars not as in a michelin restaurant but as in terms best in its class around for sure

Yelp
First time here, started down the street at the brewery, decided to give this a try for bar food, and it didn't disappoint. We were a table of 4, beer(lots of local ones) and wings with different counts of heat, labeled clearly on the menu. I also had a taco that was just ok, clearly the wings, which are on the smaller side, are the stars here. The woman tending bar was also really cool, even after my friend spilled a whole beer half on the floor & the other half on her husband! But all in all, we sat, talked laughed, ate another round of wings, and enjoyed. The music was pretty good too, AND it's a meat store on the other end. You can get some of your favs to bring home

Yelp
I guess I expected more from a place named smokey meat shop. Expecting ribs, brisket and Mc n cheese, we got pulled pork sandwiches, burger that was really undercooked and dry wings. While not bad, it was not all that exciting either.

Yelp
The place is very cool Bartender/ waitress was very nice But weird with the food I ordered one taco as an appetizer and my friend ordered wings. Tacos and burger for dinner. I was very specific that my taco was for an app. Tacos came out first man's they out mine on someone else's plate. Almost immediately after they dropped the tacos off his wings came out. So I sat there waiting for my burger and started this review. The tacos were fair. The two my friend got he didn't like the shells. I had a flour tortilla but the beef was seasoned weird. Burger is here. Great bun, good burger but everyone else is done so I'm eating alone The guy that dropped off the burger couldn't be bothered. I asked for ketchup and I felt like I was imposing. It's Saturday night but not so busy One excellent thing were the choclate chip cookies Limited menu

Yelp
Very cool place. We stopped on a ride home to NJ from Rochester on the spur of the moment. We were very pleased with the whole experience. I got 2 tacos (chicken and pork), my BF got ground beef and chicken. My son got a tray of nachos with chicken which was huge. I couldn't choose which I liked most! Everything was fresh and delish. We also tried all of their hot sauces and ended up purchasing two bottles. The woman behind the bar was extremely nice and offered to open up a jar of hot sauce we were asking about. We will definitely be back!

Tanya R.

Yelp
Fun and funky atmosphere, the staff was very nice. Tacos were great - we had the trout, lamb birria and pork verde. The wings were good with the selection of hot sauces on the table. Great stop-off!

Yelp
Finally stopped here to celebrate a friends birthday. There were 6 of us. All seated at the window comfortably next to the bar. We had the lovely waitress/bar tender, Jen, as in Jennifer . She was super attentive and accommodating and just an overall pleasure. I was tempted to order the pastrami sandwich, instead I opted for the Sweet Garlic Pepper wings and a short rib taco. The wings were deliciously amazing. The sticky and sweetness of the sauce combined with the pepper was fantastic. The short rib taco was okay, I was expecting it to be better but for me, it was a little dry and on the bland side. I also tried the smoked trout dip and that was good too. I didn't really want to drink alcohol and requested a lemonade and it was perfectly sweet. My friends had the burgers and other tacos and they all claimed it was delicious. It was a great time and big props to Jennifer for being so fabulous with us. The store is also very cool, lots of great gift ideas and affordable meats and cheeses to purchase as well. Great experience had by all of us and we can't wait to come back. Thanks again!

Yelp
Very interesting place in Livingston Manor. It's a bar but apparently it's also a restaurant. I only experience the bar and karaoke night which was loads of fun. They did serve really good authentic looking Buffalo wings. The drinks were alright but I'm not a good judge for drinks so I really can't speak much about it. But for a nice l, fun night out, I would recommend it.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place for some nice meat options for grilling. Didn't have a chance to try the food, but picked up a really nice ribeye, and two racks of ribs that were already rubbed down and ready to throw on the grill! They also had some fresh trout and nice salmon for those who might be looking for something other than red meat. Owner was a super nice guy, and the staff went out of their way to check for anything we were looking for. If staying in this area again, I will definitely be back!

Yelp
This place is everything. Top shelf butcher shop? Yeah. Tex-mex haven? Sure. Jen, mixologist and conversationalist behind the bar? Unmatched. Love this spot. Go here.

Todd T.

Yelp
Great beef jerky. The chipotle was very spicy and had me hooked. The staff wasn't knowledgeable on the questions I asked though. Seemed like a very cool spot to go and eat.

Meghan G.

Yelp
Incredible service, super friendly! Just bought things from the market. They had smoked dog bones, which was an easy sell for me.

Yelp
The place is one of the few places open in the evening in Livingston Manor. The ambiance is nice and they have a nice patio area with movie nights and firepits. The food is ok but I probably won't have it again. Had it not been for the fact that the options in the town are limited, I would gone somewhere else.

Yelp
Vibe is cool as hell. We didn't eat any of the food but it looked amazing and people seemed to like it. Also reasonably priced. Vegetarian options look great. Little shop on the side is cool. Staff is friendly.

Yelp
I came in at around 7:30 on a Saturday night and they seemed to be doing well with lots of people eating there. Me and my two friends sat down at the bar for some beers and food and the experience was just overall bad. The bartender was great and did a great job. The food however was awful. We ordered five tacos, 10 "hot and tangy" wings and two sandwiches. The whole bill was $111 and all it was worth was the cost of the beers. The chips looked like they came out of the bottom of a cape cod bag. All 5 tacos came out cold and soggy. I mean if youre gunna serve a taco it cant be sitting there for 10 minutes. It was truly disgusting. My friend ate one 3 out of the five. Then the wings came out an they were also lukewarm and there sauce was not hot and tangy one bit. It was more like slimy and flat out bland. Really disappointed with this experience and I cant see myself going back. Seems as though they need to change the "chef" and maybe create a new process of moving hot plates out to the dining room faster.

Yelp
Ok. This is a bar, a restaurant, a hang out, and a meat market. So, mainly Mexican fare on the menu. I tried three salsa's with homemade chips. All three excellent. Staff is very friendly. One down side, flies in the building. Maybe a door left open? Aside from that it would be 5 stars.

Tara M.

Yelp
Such a cool vibe. Local beers to grab/drink, awesome cocktail mixes, fire pit and tables outside. They even had a little hill to tube down! More chill vibe than the busier breweries in town

Travis K.

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem. We have been waiting for a proper butcher shop in the area for a long time but Van Smokey is that and so much more. You can find everything from vintage candy, gourmet cheeses, smoked Bloody Mary mix, fresh jerky and of course just about any cut of meat you'd like to take home to your grill or smoker. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I'd recommend campfire hot sauce and the cbd pre-rolls!

Yelp
This place is PHENOMENAL. I would recommend everyone stop here. Great staff, great food, and great place. Ordered and grilled (on site) venison sausages, andouille and kielbasa sausages, and venison steaks to eat with a side of smoked steelhead and real tasty jerky. Would recommend to any visitor to the Catskills, on the way in and the way out. This is one of the two places I will stop at every time I go up, not including the fly shop. Ordered meats here for the ride home and saw a sign saying "Grill Your Food Here". Asked about it and they told us we were the first to inquire. Exactly what it sounds like, they put some lump charcoal on their grill in the backyard and got it going for us. Absolute treat. And a great excuse to spend a few more hours in the Catskills.

Heather P.

Yelp
Overpriced. Picked up meat for a grilled dinner at fish camp on recommendation of a friend. Four thin burgers per pack cooked to medium and they turned to teeny hockey pucks. No plain options of "just smoked" burgers -- all meats seemed to come with their signature seasonings. Counter person recommended Jerky Jerky seasoned burgers for an 8yo child; we didn't even try giving to him, as all of the adults were complaining it was too much. Only had one wurst selection during typical Oktoberfest time of year which seems weird for a butcher. The Jerky packages have a very small amount for the price of $10. Mushroom jerky my friend had was completely gross. For what it's worth, the store is in a decent location just outside of Liv Manor proper and easily accessible from highway with a large parking lot. There are numerous steps to enter the building; unclear if there is a more accessible route. They do carry vintage-style candy and other merchandise in the shop but who comes to a meat shop for that? They've also got a tasting bar built out but with COVID, it's unclear what will be done with that area of the shop.
