New Montreal Restaurants That Opened in September 2021 | Eater Montreal

"Born after vandalism incidents at Le Speakeasy, this graffiti-laden restaurant on the bar's main floor is led by chef Alexandre Payon and features a compact menu with items such as venison tartare, a beet and scallop dish, and mushroom tagliatelle; Le Speakeasy itself remains closed." - Valerie Silva

Really cute spot surprisingly not too busy when we went. The restaurant has lots of space , cool decor, and great people watching if you are seated by the window. The servers and bar tenders were great, service was perfect we both got the 5 item options (would definitely have been fine with the three as it was lots of food) and enjoyed everything. I would say the least favourite would be the arincini and the broccoli Cesar salad , not because they were bad but perhaps just less exciting flavor wise. Collectively we had the Tiki drink (very light and tasty), caipirinha (delicate, light, depth of flavour), a glass of wine, Negroni(the strawberry infusion was a delightful twist) , and an old fashioned (well balanced and came with a small fire on a plate to roast a marshmallow on which was a fun feature). Also ordered spicey naked and famous but it was waaaaaaaaaay too spicy so we sent it back and they replaced it no questions asked but be warned it is truly habanero forward lol. The food portions were generous and timing between plates well timed to enjoy the ambience , drinks, and company. Would definitely go again :)

After one hour of waiting, no water was offered and our drinks had not arrived. The place was basically empty and had no reason to take so long. After getting ready to leave, they stated that the drinks were being made and that it had only been half an hour. While the place looks beautiful and I would love to come back I would not want to wait an hour for a drink. Not only that, my $19 drinks was basically a large ice cube. My friends drink was a margarita with no salt. I have never seen that. I was really excited and I am so sad I was disappointed.

Overall, our night for 2 was amazing. We went on Friday April 11th from 7pm to 9h30. Excellent: service was truly amazing (she was funny, kind, attentive), ambiance and vibes were immaculate, our gravlax entrée left us speechless, good portions for tapas style, the matcha crème brûlée wow!, cocktails are expensive (≈20$) but definitely worth it, and 3 course for 25$ was a steal. Focaccia was amazing too. Good: the main dishes lacked a little flavour… the pasta was good, but nothing that can’t be whipped up at home under 30 mins. To be improved: our main dishes took quite a long time to arrive, but understandable as it was busy and the server made sure to check up often. Disappointed: we were left disappointed by the Asian short ribs that really lacked flavour and sauce. Mainly we were disappointed because the rice was quite undercooked. But we left this place happy, we ate well, had great cocktails, and for 150$ in total it was worth it (tip and taxes incl.) for 2x 3 courses, 2 cocktails and a beer, foccacia and saucission extra (great portion). We’ll come back :)

It was so good. I rarely give reviews online, but this was definitely worth it. Everything was great and the food was so flavorful. The only thing, I would have appreciated if the server did a last call at our table and asked if we wanted something else before closing the kitchen (like most places do for food and bar) because I would have ordered dessert before the kitchen closed...I was celebrating a birthday. Otherwise, everything was good.

Went there with no expecations, but the food ended up being fantastic! I recommend the beef carpaccio and eggplant with pesto sauce. The braised beef was so tender it practically fell off the bone. The tiramisu was just okay. Id come back!

Google
Mtl a table experience. Food was all delicious, portions are very generous, esp the starters. Menu was varied. Waiters are helpful but not overly well trained or well informed esp regarding wine choices. Service was prompt however. Seems like a young crowd favors this place.

Group of 3, we went for MTL à Table! It was a very good tasting menu! The portions were pretty big considering it was 4 courses. The gnocchi & short rib were fantastic! The Staff, decor and vibe are great- there was just a super extra loud table next to us. All in all a very pleasant discovery !

Visited for drinks at the speakeasy. Had reservations at nine, but the speakeasy wasn’t opened yet. Sat at the bar in Vandale. The bartender was incredible and made a drink specifically for my taste that wasn’t on the menu. The art is exceptional and makes for a very enriching experience. Spent a lot of the time looking around on the walls and enjoying our drink. The speakeasy is located downstairs right when you walk in. The speakeasy was very dark in a 20s intimate style. The drinks were absolutely phenomenal.

Yelp
Enjoyed a delicious meal here during MTLaTable week. The 4 course meal provides a variety of flavors with both Asian and Italian influences. The decor plays with a graffiti and mural mash up does not provide the proper backdrop to the detailed presentation of every dish. Service was friendly and efficient.

Yelp
They have $1 oyster during happy hour between 6-8pm. They also have $9 Negoroni and some beer and wine specials during HH. Since they don't have a HH menu so definitely ask their bartendes. Loved their murals which were created around 2017. The bar was then vandalized during the pandemic hence the name of the bar (this is what I found in the news so don't hold me accountable for the story).

Yelp
We were a bit disappointed in our visit to Vandale. Not really a speakeasy. We had a beer, not even sure what is was called. The bartender was less than helpful. We moved on pretty quickly.

Yelp
We went during happy hour on a Thursday and it was lovely! We started the the happy hour cocktail for 9$ and 1$ oysters! We weren't too hungry and split the 3 tapas and dessert special. The tuna was our favorite, it was so flavorful and delicious. The Nutella tiramisu was also incredible. The service was also wonderful and the restaurant itself is very chic. Would recommend, especially during happy hour!

Yelp
Oh man I feel like I've been giving out a lot of 5 stars but this place was deserving of so. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Vandale mostly because it was super close to our hotel and we were lazy - but I was so pleasantly surprised! They were like, almost too cool for me. There's graffiti on the walls, soft hip pop music and actually very great food. I really loved the pasta and my boyfriend could not say enough about the drinks. Overall we had such a good experience (especially in contrast to our second speakeasy experience the same night which was so dark and crammed) Try out Vandale if you get the chance!!

Yelp
Fun meal in a comfortable space. You enter through a walk in refrigerator door. The cocktails are creative and very good. The small plates are varied a flavorful. We enjoyed the Pork Tacos and Fried Eggplant. The downstairs room opens at 8 PM Thursday - Sunday.

Yelp
Donc évidemment on a testé ça. J'y retournerai.

Yelp
TLDR: I will most likely not return but the vibe and atmosphere is nice, and I may return for a pre-dinner cocktail. They combined the old ice cream parlour & the former speakeasy bar into one restaurant called Vandale. Menu is reminiscent of that of Speakeasy, however quite over priced for what it's worth. Before they switched to Vandale, I immensely enjoyed coming to Speakeasy (I have been several times) and I remember they had an amazing server / manager named David. It is too bad he no longer works here. David was the highlight of each of my previous visits before they became Vandale. I remember the former speakeasy for the nice vibe, amazing service, and friendly prices. (They used to have a $1 per oyster deal where you also got a complimentary glass of bubbles) However, I am disappointed to report that the service was mediocre at best (we almost felt forgotten), and the prices are certainly not friendly anymore. I understand many restaurants raised their prices post-pandemic but I didn't think their price increase was worth the value or the portion of the food at all. We shared a bottle of orange wine and 4 dishes amongst the 3 of us. We had the seared scallops with beets, braised short rib with cheesy polenta, winter salad and the deer tartare. Everything was good though nothing to write home about. We paid about $280 total and left feeling a little hungry. Overall: 3 Value: 1.5 Food: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Service: 3

Yelp
We've been watching the Speakeasy team transform their top notch location for the last couple of months. The first and most obvious visual change was the demolition of the wall separating the ice cream shop from the restaurant. The walls all received super cool cartoon inspired murals. New tables by the front windows and a clear view of the bar and kitchen completed the look from the outside. As usual, we were walking our Golden Retrievers down McGill last night on our way home for a home cooked dinner. Vandale caught my wife's attention so our dinner plans quickly changed to a seat at the bar. This is a story of old friends and new friends to be. David is still there although in a new role. He's one of the nicest guys around so I would visit Vandale based solely on his presence. New friends include the super friendly host and the oh-so-skilled bartender Jake. The previous chef from Speakeasy is also part of the team although I never had a chance to meet him during the pandemic. I did eat more than my fair share of takeout short ribs during that time so I feel like I know him... Which leads me to the old/new friends take on the food. Having never had the full treatment during the pandemic I can't really compare old to new in the drink menus . I can say the new wine list is packed with high quality and reasonably priced selections, I doubt you could go wrong with anything on the list. The cocktails looked FANTASTIC as we sat at the bar and watched Jake work his magic. They are working on a few new cocktails for an upcoming event and we were lucky enough to get a sample. Hmm, next time out we are getting cocktails for sure! New on the food list was Scallops and Beets 3 Ways. Beautifully presented and cooked perfectly, what a great dish! An old friend on the menu is beef short rib. The previous presentation was a Spicy Korean dish. The new version is a more sophisticated French inspired dish with what looked like polenta but was in fact something much more interesting with squash and stretchy cheese. The side vegetables were all crisp and delicious in a sweet fall pan sauce. Yum! What a cool experience at a very reasonable price, particularly given the high rent district location. Here's another place I can't wait to revisit.

Yelp
One of my favorite dining experiences in Montréal! The 4-course tasting menu is a great deal. Every dish was complex, curated, and tasted fantastic. The cocktails were inventive. The service was attentive. Would recommend to anyone visiting!

Yelp
Interesting place, great ambiance! Will definitely recommend it to my fellow travelers.
