Lived in queens all my life and did not know this place existed until I had the pleasure of chaperoning a school trip. Definitely. A great way to learn some history locally

The property itself is a gem in an otherwise industrial area. The staff and management are another story. We hosted a wedding at the property and would strongly discourage others from doing the same. The property manager made the day so much harder. She yelled at numerous guests, which is absolutely unacceptable. There were several instances where we were given false or incomplete information, which ended up costing us lots of extra time, money and stress at the last minute. This place should become a city park or be taken over by new management. The potential is being wasted.

As the owner of a wedding and events design company for 32 year, I must say I am impressed. The staff was great, caring and respectful. The grounds were beautiful. I would recommend anyone to have an event there. 1 issue at dusk the rats will come out. But remember it's a park and it's their home.

Oldest fieldstone house in NYC, open to the public to view the rooms and displays. Friendly staff available to give tours and answer questions. If you walk to the back of the yard, you can see a view of Manhattan. Enjoyable outing.

A must-visit for anyone who lives in the area - not just because the grounds are beautifully maintained, the guided tour is fairly priced, and it's a great way to kill a rainy afternoon, but because you learn so much about your neighborhood and how it came to be!

My husband and I got married here and it was the perfect venue for us. We weren't even considering having our wedding in NYC until we realized there was this perfect gem of a venue right in our own neighborhood of Ridgewood! It's a beautiful piece of land surrounded by industrial buildings on one side and a residential neighborhood on the other - and it's just steps from the some of the hippest parts of Brooklyn. The location worked out really well for us because it's a beautiful and fun spot where we could have the outdoor garden-style wedding we wanted - equipped with a huge tent, picnic tables, a fire pit, and plenty of lawn space. You can even see the Manhattan skyline from a few places, which makes for a beautiful sunset. The house itself is also very charming and made for excellent photos. We loved that we could take a walk with our photographer to take really cool magazine-ready photos with the murals and industrial backdrop nearby. There aren't a lot of nice hotels in the area, but most of our out-of-town guests did just fine with airbnbs and some of our family members just took ubers from other hotels in the city. Best of all, we could afford this idyllic spot - which again, we did not expect! It's definitely DIY because they don't have much beyond some chairs, tables, and a few staff for general maintenance - but that meant we had all of the flexibility for our vendors, and we could bring our own everything. It was also incredible to have the place reserved for two days, which allowed us time to set up, break down, and have folks hang out the day after with a little picnic. We love, love, love the Onderdonk House and all of its charm - and our guests did, too. It has made us fall in love with Ridgewood even harder!

Awesome! 1) A gem of a museum. The house was built by Dutch settlers in 1709, making it one of the oldest historical home in the United States. 2) The tour is excellent. It starts from the basement and moves upstairs. 3) The fee is by donation. Give what you wish.

I came here once before. Probably back in about there third of fourth grade. I remember making butter and slathering it on some crackers. Talk about delicious. Returning here with my 3rd 4th and 5th graders was great. It goes beautifully with the curriculum and the employees are helpful, interesting, and knowledgeable. It was a chilly day but we stayed out side to get a good look at the house, taking note of the windows and the roof. In the back they have a vegetable garden, a chicken coop with actual free range chickens and an awesome view of manhattan at the top of the hill. They show a great slide show presentation and answer questions wonderfully. They know a lot about the history of the place and explain it all in an understandable manner. The kids and adults as well enjoyed this trip and its definitely someplace I'd look forward to taking another class. I'm holding onto a star because they are doing a lot of renovation and we weren't able to view some parts or go to the gift store. Should be all finished soon. Hopefully I can return.

An enchanting little home at the edges of Bushwick, full of relics and replicas. For a minimal $3 donation, you can enjoy a guided tour, an audio tour, or do what I did - poke around unguided at my own pace. There's a lot of of info about the property's various owners and Revolutionary battles, but I'd love to see more about the Lenape people who lived on the land before colonization. Apparently the land was a Lenape purchase; how did the early Dutch settlers interact with their Indigenous neighbors? PS. Great wedding and event location.

This house was built by Paulus Vander Ende, a Dutch farmer, in about 1709. The smaller wooden wing was erected much later. In the early 1800s, the property was purchased by the Onderdonk family. With federal, state and city landmark status, the house's features include heavy fieldstone walls, a wooden-shingle gambrel roof, and large brick chimneys. The interior is mainly exposed post-and-beam construction with wooden floors. There are double Dutch doors and numerous small, shuttered windows. In the cellar stands an old fireplace that was once used for the kitchen. On display inside the house are objects found during excavations conducted in the 1970s and 1980s as well as architectural and historical exhibits. I usually never give bad reviews I would rather leave it alone..but not in this case..writing this as a warning to anybody planning party there..have everything in writing and if you can record conversations with the person responsible for booking your event or you might be called a liar and your party might disrupted by him in the middle of it to try get more money out of you regardless of prior agreement..it was my daughter 1st birthday party and being disrupted over $100 was very unproffesional and pretty much disrespectful..place is beatiful though for outside venues just beware of the above mentioned individual..I had 25 guests they were all ready to book their events there but all of them changed their mind after what they have done today..very dissapointed..

Came here for a wedding. The outdoor space is huge, with a balance of shady trees and an open field. Definitely wear flats, and your feet are going to be covered in dirt after a night of dancing. There is a small garden with chickens just outside the house. Inside is so interesting. The stonework is gorgeous and rustic, natural beauty of the house is well maintained. Don't miss the historical library filled with books of each county on Long Island and NYC.

Lovely historic home on quaint land with garden and chicken coup. The home is preserved and decorated according to the period. They have many items on display along with maps of the area during the time. Nice place to visit in a very industrial area.

Almost hidden between big factories and billboards on an ugly stretch of Flushing Avenue sits New York's oldest Dutch-Colonial house. It's open to the public on Saturday afternoons and has rotating exhibits and a small gift shop. You can also wander the fairly large grounds which include a garden and a big rock of some significance (it has it's own plaque). It doesn't really take long to check this place out, but if you live nearby it's definitely worth a look to see what the neighborhood looked like back in the day.

Had such a good time at our friends wedding- such a cute display and diorama inside, and an awesome outdoor space for the party and reception.

Lost Amongst Warehouses Is a farmhouse With tours, flowers, and Arbitration Rock.

Such a historical gem in the heart of industrial warehouses. The guide who works there made our visit more than pleasant with his extensive knowledge of NYC history. It was such a delight to see something more than 300 years old hidden in between Ridgewood and Bushwick. Amazing story telling and beautiful place, which seems like suspended in time. Please support places like this, there are so few of them left.

The house has been hosting a lot of great events such as music festivals and bike-in movies lately. Thanks for making Ridgewood more interesting and making the most of that great property, Onderdonk.

Great place for kids and there parents. They always have some family thing going on. Not expensive and great for all. St. Nicks day is coming, check it out.
