"“Ljubljana” doesn’t exactly roll off the English-speaking tongue — that’s just about the only reason we can come up with for why the travel press hasn’t been singing its praises for years. The Slovenian capital is a deeply charming city, a picturesque jumble of historic architecture, public squares, sidewalk cafes and ambitious new museums, with a music scene as rich as those of cities many times its size. Set at the center of it all, in a pedestrian-only neighborhood that’s been settled since at least ancient Roman times, is the Vander Urbani, a boldly designed boutique hotel spread across four adjoining townhouses." - Tablet Hotels

Vander Urbani, “A member of Design Hotels”. What design? Must have been a long time ago. The hotel website is deceiving. Location is great, situated along the river in the old town, but the hotel itself is starting to look rather shabby. The aircon does not work at all, not even a light blow of air. Our room was like a sauna. Hotel staff told us they’d had to hand out fans to other guests and there was none left for us. We were promised one by the receptionist for the second night. It never made it to our room. The minibar fridge in our room did not work. And the bed linen and towels have definitely seen better days. Hotel staff is friendly enough but does not care too much about customer satisfaction, apart from a couple of exceptions (Sanjiv, Tezej, who were very friendly and helpful). In short, price/performance ratio is VERY substandard.|I wrote directly to the hotel owner/manager 8 days ago. As of today, I have received no answer. They obviously don’t care, as long as the tourists keep coming!

We arrived early, and the reception staff were happy to accommodate our luggage.|Our Zen room was a good size, the decor is not finished to a great standard. We were on the first floor, and the sound proofing is excellent as you could not hear any noise from the bars below. The same can't be said about the heating-air conditioning, which was very noisey .|As the room was too hot and the thermostat didn't work, we turned the heating off. The room was still hot, and turning the heater off unmasked another pumping noise from the ceiling.| There is no dressing table, mirror, or stool to sit on. There is a chair, but as there is no downstairs reception area with seating, a second chair in the room would be handy.|We didn't appreciate the shower being in the bath . Some would actually find it hard to climb inside to shower as the bath is very deep. The concept of a glass wall between the bedroom and bathroom is a little odd! There are no curtains in the room just black outlining. Not a good look. | The poor guy at breakfast was rushed off of his feet. The self-service coffee machine remained out of action during our stay, which meant not only was he serving all the guests in the hotel, he was having to make individual drinks for everyone. This meant the service was slow, which was in no way his fault as he was excellent. The reception staff took two days to be aware of his struggles before a vague attempt to help was made.|All.in all this is a good hotel, the location is super and I imagine the outside roof top plunge pool in the summer is great. The breakfasts we had were lovely. Don't come here expecting perfection, and you won't be disappointed. |

Good hotel - very central with a nice canal-side bar and restaurant.|Nice modern decor. Pretty well maintained.|The rooms were fine and the breakfast was pretty good. One dinner we had was very good.|My only issue was that the restaurant and bar management was awkward. There always seemed to be an issue with getting a table either for a drink or for dinner, even when it wasn’t busy.|On one occasion, the manager kicked us out from our table due to upcoming reservations. When we walked back past about 45 minutes later, there were still loads of empty tables. |I then went there a week later just to get a quick early (6pm) dinner. There was nobody there while all of the other neighbouring bars were full of people eating and drinking. When we asked if we could get something to eat, they made a big fuss about perhaps not having the space or the time before all the “reservations” arrived. They managed to fit us in. And when we left, the place was still only half full.|The food was really very good, but the awkward table management left a bad taste.|The waiters and waitresses were good and friendly. It was only the management, who made a particular show of not being mere waiters, who were difficult.

Location couldn’t be more central or in the midst of it (and it’s an awesome place to visit)|However Ljubljana is small and lots of places have the same advantage. ||The hotel just doesn’t feel value for money - our room (14) was tiny, glass bathroom door which is odd, furnishings and carpet were tired, extremely warm inside the room even in April and the service wasn’t friendly downstairs in reception. Breakfast was nice, but the coffee was not.

Who wants a room where the toilet is two feet from the bed ? Very unimpressed by the hotel. I booked on booking.com and of course the photos are made to look amazing. The rooms were small but ok n size, but the bathroom is open plan with a glass door and curtain so you can see and hear everything that is going on. Yeah we are all human but who really wants that. The sink didn’t drain away and the aircon was like a motorbike was idling in our room. We explored the pool area and were greeted by loads of dustbin bags piled everywhere. I think this hotel should be a two star at best. I wouldn’t come back again and wouldn’t recommend.

Great location, great service and a lovely hotel from which to enjoy Ljubljana. I have stayed twice and will stay again. The breakfast is good and I have also eaten at the restaurant which is lovely. The rooms are spacious with nice interesting design and nice bathrooms. The roof terrace is ok to catch the sunshine.

Unfortunately, despite its great potential, my stay at Hotel Urbani was disappointing. The hotel’s location is truly excellent — right in the heart of Ljubljana, making it easy to explore the city on foot. However, the cleanliness of the hotel leaves a lot to be desired.||The rooms were very, very dirty, which really impacted the overall experience, especially considering the relatively high prices guests are asked to pay. It’s a shame, because with just a little more attention to cleanliness and basic maintenance, the hotel could offer a much more pleasant stay.||Additionally, for those who do not enjoy the lively nightlife scene, it might be better to look for a quieter hotel, as the central location also means quite a bit of noise late into the night.||In short, Hotel Urbani has a perfect location, but the poor hygiene standards and noise issues make it hard to recommend unless serious improvements are made. 😖

Cant really get much better in terms of location but that is unfortunately the only nice thing i can say. We checked into our room and immediately noticed the lack of any bedside tables, then noticed the glass bathrooms that you can see into unless a tatty curtain is pulled across. Thats all bearable until you also notice the stains on the curtains and the build-up of dust everywhere. We couldnt feel comfortable at all.
