"On the banks of the Ljubljanica River, city-centre restaurant Vander stands out from the crowd with its inviting and trendy atmosphere. Within the walls of Amanda and Aleksander Vujadinović’s attractive boutique hotel, the restaurant is divided into several interconnecting spaces: one cosy room with large communal tables, another with a more elegant vibe and designer furniture, plus an irresistible sun terrace on the waterfront. In Slovenian, Vander means "journey", and the name is spot on for this establishment, where a different culinary experience awaits you each time you come : the two young chefs are keen to keep diners on their toes. They are Martin Blejec, who has worked in some of the best restaurants in Ljubljana and London, and Luka Zeleznik, sous-chef and friend of Blejec. Both are keen to work with local produce, which they source from small-scale producers of their acquaintance. Farm-reared pig, trout or sturgeon, game and mushrooms all feature on a menu that favours compact, lively dishes. Examples include the delicately breaded Dolenjska cheese served with herb mayonnaise; scallop risotto with caramelised spring onions; and crispy pavlova with seasonal fruits. The wine list highlights local wines but also includes foreign wines, most notably champagne, which flows freely during the many events in the Vander calendar. "“Ljubljana” doesn’t exactly roll off the English-speaking tongue — that’s just about the only reason we can come up with for why the travel press hasn’t been singing its praises for years. The Slovenian capital is a deeply charming city, a picturesque jumble of historic architecture, public squares, sidewalk cafes and ambitious new museums, with a music scene as rich as those of cities many times its size. Excellent hotel in the heart of Ljubljana. Very stylish and modern, but needs a bit of updating on the room. The carpet and curtains are stained and the tv is old but it’s literally one second from the city centre. Surrounded by cafés, restaurants, bars, and shopping unbeatable location. The restaurant and bars are all on the ground floor, creating a great atmosphere. The hotel has 3 floors with only 20 rooms, which makes it feel quiet and exclusive. Breakfast is served from 8–11am, costs €15, and is good quality. A nice touch was the welcome drinks on arrival. The 4 floor has a pool but closed during winter and Christmas, reopening in summer. Special thanks to Dalibor at reception very welcoming and professional. He explained to us the Christmas market and nearby activities. Highly recommended

Stayed here last week and we were really happy with our stay overall but we did have an issue with the TV in our room not working at all. We have however been provided an email address so we will email and hope that's dealt with accordingly. Overall however, this hotel was in a fantastic location! Every encounter we had with staff was great, they were all so friend1ly and helpful throughout our stay! We were provided with a welcome drink at check in which was a really lovely touch, however when we went to use it in the bar at first we were told it was only for 1 drink (there was two of us) so this could maybe be made clearer for guests at check in and the bar staff. Bathroom in the room is quite small as other reviews state but that didn't really affect our stay. The room was very clean and we had no issues with noise throughout our stay either which allowed for a peaceful night's sleep both nights.

We stayed only one night at this hotel during a whistlestop tour of Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic, but Vander Hotel, and Ljubljana itself, were for me, highlights of the trip. We stayed in a variety of hotels in Rome, Florence, Venice, Bratislava, Vienna and Prague, but our one night in this excellent hotel was particularly wonderful. We didn’t even make it to the rooftop bar and pool, but we loved the ambience, the attention to detail in every respect, the friendly, considerate and helpful staff and the superb food. For me, Vander was the perfect mix of elegance and informality- understated yet remarkable in every way. |The interior design was contemporary but never intrusive, the lighting was particularly good, the bed was incredibly comfy, the ensuite was beautifully thought out, and everywhere, the fit and finish was exceptional. Most importantly, the staff were superb. I can't wait to go back.

Comfortable, stylish, practical but can benefit from renovation all around (essentially in bathrooms and TVs). Excellent food and wine. Staff: friendly, polite with very few exceptions. Reception is always excellent, 5 out of 5.

This is a lovely little hotel with excellent staff. We stayed here for 3 nights and the staff could not do enough for us. The breakfast was lovely with a good selection and table service|The hotel is right next to the river in a prime location, but be aware that cars cannot get to within 5 minutes of the hotel as it is in a pedestrian area. |There are other review that mention about loud noise from outside but we didn’t find this even though all the bars and restaurants next to the hotel were busy unti late

We had a fabulous stay at Hotel Vander. The staff were so helpful and attentive, ensuring we had a very delicious packed breakfast for our early departure. I left my iPad behind and staff member Lara went above and beyond in arranging a courier to return it to me. The hotel and the room was very clean and comfortable. The location of Hotel Vander is perfect.

I chose this place on the back of a guidebook recommendation as it is in the centre of town and well located. however, that was the only redeeming factor. The place looks and feels tired. Our room was tiny and we are not big people. I can’t imagine how others larger that us manage in the cubicle that passes for the bathroom and toilet. It was a struggle to get dry after a shower without knocking something over. The shower and toilet are separated from the bedroom by glass partitions and a sliding glass door which require curtains to be drawn for some semblance of privacy.The room needed a refresh as it felt gloomy with grey walls and limited lighting. While some staff were helpful the service at breakfast was woeful and I don’t think I can recollect an omelette as bad as the one I was served on our second day.|I don’t normally write bad reviews but this was definitely a poor choice on my part and I will certainly not be looking at Design Hotels again. It’s a shame as I would prefer to use small hotels than big chains where possible.

Perfect spot in the old town. A small modern boutique hotel with a recent drop terrace and pool overlooking the river and under the castle . The staff was friendly a nice breakfast is included and a welcome drink . The location is perfect.
