19 Best Tex-Mex Restaurants In Austin 2024

"Most of the food at Vaqueros is exactly what we want out of a good neighborhood spot—the enchiladas are tasty, and the fajitas are tender—but the tableside queso is worth the trip alone. It all starts with a sizzling pile of peppers, chorizo, and shredded cheese that your server tosses with oil as you watch the whole thing turn into a small mountain of cheesy magma. It’s located near the Barton Creek Square Mall in Westlake, but there’s also a location in Steiner Ranch if you find yourself out a little farther west of town. " - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

Vaqueros Cafe & Cantina - Review - Westlake - Austin - The Infatuation

"You’ve heard of tableside guac. But we’re guessing you’ve never come across tableside queso flameado, unless you’ve been to a dinner at Vaqueros near the Barton Creek Square Mall in Westlake. It all starts with a ripping hot skillet, a pile of peppers, and a few scoops of chorizo. Everything starts to gently sizzle before your server piles on a mound of shredded cheese and some oil, then flicks a lighter while you watch the whole thing turn into a small mountain of cheesy magma. Most of the food at Vaqueros is exactly what we want out of a good neighborhood spot—the enchiladas are tasty, and the fajitas are tender—but the tableside queso is worth a trip alone. There’s also got a location in Steiner Ranch if you find yourself out a little farther west of town." - Nicolai McCrary

This is a hidden gem of Mexican Restaurants in the Austin area. I found this place on YouTube. I went here to try the El Macho 2lb burrito challenge. I thought the burrito was delicious but is overpriced. The restaurant has outdoor dining available. There was a self service for free ice cream. This place is definitely worth eating at.

Karina was so great! She was so nice and attentive from the minute we sat down! She was super quick to take our order and retrieve anything we needed. She made sure the entire time we were happy and enjoying our delicious food. Highly recommend this place and asking for Karina :)

Google
The stuffed Avocado was incredible! I tried for the first time and look forward to trying again soon! Jorge was our waiter and was very attentive and made sure we enjoyed what was a nice dinner out on a Sunday evening. The margaritas were also delicious 😋 . Can’t wait to go back

Google
We used to live close by and I have been daydreaming about coming back to this place for a couple years 😂 it did not disappoint! The service in the bar area got a little spotty when they were busy but the food is always delicious. The chips and salsa are amazing, the combo fajitas are fire, and the chicken enchiladas with vaquero sauce slap! Don’t skip out on the smoked tortilla soup and thank me later.

Google
Nothing great about the restaurant overall. Elaborate menu but nothing stands out. Plenty of parking and usually easy to find one even during peak hours. Plenty of seating area. Bar seating available too. Had us seated quickly, hardly any wait. Service was helpful and attentive but seemed like she had too many tables to cover. Prices are exorbitant for the quality and taste of the food. Chips and salsa are on the house and definitely tasty. Had to add the same salsa to my dish to improve its flavor. Decor inside is rustic and mgmt has tried to make it look more authentic to Mexican style, not sure if it hits the mark though. Food was okay, run of the mill, shredded chicken hardly had any taste. Rice and beans on the side lacked even salt. Vegetarian enchiladas had only raw veggies stuffed inside wasn’t much palatable. May be okay for a 1 time visit.

My wife and I...and a friend...had dinner at Vaqueros Cafe & Cantina last evening. We all had enchiladas, beans and rice. Food and service (Jorge) was excellent. Even had a taste of self-service frozen ice cream on the way out! Most enjoyable evening! Thanks!

Food came out fast. Everything was hot and tasted good. Went on a Monday afternoon they had $5 Margs and Queso. Would revisit, serving sizes are large.

Despite feeling like we were forgotten at the end, The 5 stars remain! We Went at 3 pm which is an odd time for a restaurant. So I figure that was to bllame. The food and drinks were amazing!!!

Yelp
Solid first visit to Vaquero's, and appreciate the staff's flexibility hosting a few families with kids of all ages. We were happy to enjoy a table near the back door (where there's plenty of space for kiddos to play outside on the playscape and in the backyard mulch). House margs, both frozen and on the rocks were great! Probably would not order the queso or guacamole on the next visits. All of the food (fajitas, enchiladas, and carne asada) was great and well portioned! Left with a few boxes of leftovers, so hope to enjoy later in the week too. Plenty of parking, and would stop by next time we're in the area.

Yelp
Came here with a group of girlfriends on an ATX trip to celebrate a few occasions. Really, really great spread with a pleasing breadth of options from pasta, meat, vegetables, and more meats. This buffet is definitely for the savory breakfast aficionados! I got a couple frozen margaritas along with multiple trips to the buffet line and was very satisfied at the end of the meal. The service was okay, fairly disorganized but it was busy and it only impacted our drinks. I would definitely come back for a 5-star Tex-mex focused buffet any time I return to Austin.

Yelp
Top notch visit again...although we would opt out sitting in the Bar "Tables" again just because of the food traffic from employees/bar patrons. Seating in the center near the window is where it's at. The Chips, Queso, Salsa and Ranch are always first to start with us. This is the type of place I have to look at my previous reviews to make sure I don't order the same thing twice...because im going to work my way thru this menu....And the wife?...she plays with her trusted Beef Enchiladas double rice...GD on the other had went with the Carne Guisada with red chile sauce which packed a great flavor...she was warned it was spicy..but for her it really wasn't..."Heat" it still new to her at 14 and did fine. Tortillas that came with it were legit. For me this round I started with a cup of Creamy Chicken Tortilla soup (forgot to order last visit)...and my first with a cream base and it was excellent....As for a main the Carnitas Tacos with Chile rubbed pork shoulder was my choice..Super tender and loaded with flavor...Beans...Good....Rice...Good...Also ordered a side (was suppose to be small) of Chorizo Mac and Cheese...Very Tasty..This joint is up there for us and is easily my GD favorite Mexican/Tex Mex spot.

Yelp
It was time to give Vaqueros Cafe & Cantina a try where my wife and I were hungry plus traffic was starting to back up on Loop 360 to a standstill. The outside was nicely decorated for this holidays and as I walked in was greeted not by an employee but a customer who noticed I was gazing at a life-sized bull who was wearing a top hat. This place was very friendly from the start. The inside was also nice decorated for the holidays and was seated at a booth with a view of nice mural outside disputing a Texas landscape with cowboys (vaqueros). It definitely had great Mexican atmosphere. I ordered the Chicken Fajitas off the lunch menu along with a house margarita on the rocks. I could see they made their own tortillas and a nice tequila collection at the bar. Chips with two types of salsas were placed on our table. I tried them both and the chips were nice and crispy and the salsas were tasty. It was good stuff. Next my order was ready and was actually expecting two or three prepared fajita tacos since it was just the lunch special, but I was actually give the premium experience. Multiple plates were placed down in front of me to build my own tacos. The chicken was sizzling and smelled good. The other plates had grilled peppers and onions, guacamole, pico de Gallo, cheese, and rice and beans. I was impressed and they definitely outdid their competition for lunch specials. The chicken had tremendous flavor, the beans had a smokey taste to it and all wrapped in warm soft flour tortillas. As a bonus a huge crispy jalepeño was included where cut it and stuffed it in my tacos. It was the best fajitas I had in a long time. And the margaritas were very good too. I was extremely impressed with the service and food, and suggested it to my supervisor where now going to have our company lunch here.

Yelp
I've been there 4 times recently with my wife, friends and with my boss. We are all blown away with the quality and quantity of the food. Steak fajitas melt in your mouth! They make the Queso Flameado on a hot skillet at the table and it is excellent. Flour tortillas are made in-house. Chips are fresh, the salsa and cream salsa are wonderful. I cannot understand the 3.5 stars. We are all coming back individually and together. The folks I have recommended Vaqueros to agree also.

Yelp
Great food, great ambience, really nice restaurant. The service was fair, the green salsa was good, red salsa not so much. Maybe a little bit too much garlic and something else that was weird. Tortillas were homemade and all the food was great. I always forget to take pictures because I'm so hungry by the time the food gets there so sorry about that. However, the presentation was very nice. I would recommend coming back and I will be coming back. I happen to get their special which was a steak with a cheese enchilada, rice, and beans with a small amount of shredded lettuce and tomato. Enchilada was topped with a meat sauce and it was excellent. My wife and children both got fajitas. They enjoy it very much however, my wife said the beans were a little sweet like they put cinnamon on top. I did not have that experience with my plate, I don't think there was cinnamon on mine. However, everything was superb, it was a little expensive, but you're paying for a nicer restaurant.

Yelp
I was craving good ole Mexican food and a quick search bought me here. With the plenty amazing reviews I had to check it out. The parking lot was full but we were seated immediately. We sat down and ordered our queso which is free with Yelp check in. The manager came to look as they said they'd never seen it. They were so kind and inviting! They comp'd the queso. I ordered the combination with sour cream chicken enchiladas, a tamale, a loaded chicken toastada, and rice n beans. EVERYTHING on my plate was delicious!! They use REAL chicken. Succulent and juicy. The sour cream sauce on the enchiladas was fantastic! The tamale was tasty! I want to order a dozen by themselves! The chicken toastada was fully loaded and really hit the spot although the toastada itself was soggy unfortunately. I'll ask for it on a separate plate next time. The rice and refried beans were your good ole staple. Tasty for sure! I tried my husbands plate of bbq ribs, chicken, sausage, and sides. The meats were so good! The chicken is seasoned well. t The creamed corn and cole slaw were terrible. The corn was sour and had way too much sugar. The slaw was bland besides the also sour taste. They've got a long list of cocktails, beer, and wine, as well as a kids menu. Do not skip the creamy salsa they give with the chips. It is SO good I could drink it!! I'll definitely be back for that Tejas Mexican food!

Yelp
The food was amazing! I had the carnitas, which are so flavorful and out of this world amazing. The salsa and green chili, perfection. The service was absolutely lovely. The ambiance was fun and cozy at the same time, my family and in-laws could sit and visit while we enjoyed our meal. The prices are great, and I loved the soft-serve at the end of our meal. You have to try this place out if you're in the area.

Yelp
Sunday brunch was awesome. Service was equally great and the food was amazing. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
Came here with my 2 daughters and mother for Sunday dinner on February 23rd 2025 WESTLAKE LOCATION .... I usually don't do this but it was overall HORRIBLE ! from the beginning it wasn't busy whatsoever our server told us he did have a bigger party so the food will take a little longer which is completely understandable.... Throughout the hour we waited we ordered a small queso in the time being - THE CHIPS HE BROUGHT TO OUR TABLE WERE SOGGY ... Letting him know they are soggy he quickly apologized and brought out MORE SOGGY CHIPS ! 15 minutes pass by ; no check ups , no drink refills NOTHING TO OUR TABLE but he continued to go up to the other tables he did have ! AFTER WAITING 15 minutes to be greeted to get our drinks - we did PLACE OUR ORDER my mom ordered the cheese enchiladas: I ordered tacos ! Fast forward after dealing with the CHIPS , SLOW SERVICE our food finally comes out .... My moms enchiladas are ground beef enchiladas- my mom lets him know and he looks at her like " you're really not going to eat these " and she said again - " I ordered cheese sorry I don't like those " he took the food back - after eating this MEDIOCRE MEXICAN FOOD - FAJITA BEEF is you're basic fajita NOTHING SPECIAL, rice was bland and refried beans were horrible !!!! The queso was GREAT but then again I couldn't enjoy the queso to the fullest from the SOGGY CHIPS! We tried giving him a chance and what sealed it and made it clear he was very rude and inattentive to our table another table Comes in and is seated directly behind us - HE IMMEDIATELY GREETS THEM BEING NICE ATTENTIVE! This was our first time at this restaurant and LAST ! The food was 5/10 service was HORRIBLE- MY INDICATOR IS that me and my children are AFRICAN AMERICAN and he didn't feel the need to have any respect or regard for us ! HIS TABLES WERE ALL caucasians - AFTER everything we experienced the bill was 60$ SINCE I DO BELIEVE HE WAS RACIST I STILL LEFT HIM 25% tip of 12$ - HE DESERVED 0 HONESTLY AND TRUTHFULLY again I don't write reviews nor NOT TIP ! this experience from the food and service was HORRIBLE .... For the pricing of the food the quality isn't worth it . my children were not loud , running around - the 4 OF US MY MOM 3 year old - 8month old and me 23 years old RESPECTED HIM NEVER ONCE WAS RUDE OR DO ANYTHING IN ANY WAY TO GET THE SERVICE WE DID IT WAS BASIC DISCRIMINATION ! The only reason why he got a tip is BECAUSE WE ARE GOOD PEOPLE WHO TIP NO MATTER WHAT !!!!! Horrible experience I don't recommend the food isn't worth BEING PROFILED by your SERVER ! The only thing positive I can say is - the host was VERY NICE & the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated but WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MATTER ?!

Yelp
Per my nephew's suggestion, we tried this place Sunday morning for brunch and bottomless mimosas. It was fantastic! The food, ambiance, and staff were spot on! Just so that you know...the bottomless mimosas cost $25 and the buffet is also $25. Also, mimosa sharing is not allowed. My sister took a couple of sips from her daughter's mimosa and was warned that a 3rd sip would mean a $25 charge. So expect to pay quite a bit if you go. Nonetheless, it was a great indulgence. They had a wide variety of food choices...both breakfast fare and lunch items. My favorite part of the whole meal experience was the French toast. It was an OMG moment because it had a cream cheese filling plus they offered banana maple syrup to go with the French toast and tres leches pancakes. Make sure to bring a large appetite. I will definitely come back again!!

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat Authentic Mexican food. Any recommendations? All are good . You won't regret! Lot of parking and ice cream machine inside after meals. The staff are friendly and polite. Neat atmosphere. Oh bar is next room with too. Enjoy

Yelp
Cool vibey restaurant! Loved the truck and real Texan aura of the place. Quite a busy spot for lunch on a Friday. The waiter was very attentive. The chips we got at first were incredibly oily so we asked for another batch. The ranch was creamy and the salsa had a nice little kick. Tried the Cedar Plank Salmon. Pretty dry fish but the veggies were my favorite part. Covered in the cheesy sauce my mouth waters thinking about it. The rice was passable. Loved the soft serve ice cream machine too! Reminded me of my childhood eating a cone!

Yelp
The best thing about this place Is the atmosphere! It's fancy but casual. Anyone is welcomed. I ordered the vaquero burger. The bun was awesome but the beans on the burger were interesting. Very messy burger. The service is also really great. Vaquero Burger: Flame Broiled Burger Patty With Melted Jack Cheese, Jalapeños, Refried Beans And Chipotle Crema. Garnished With Romaine Lettuce, Guacamole, Pico De Gallo and Tortilla Strips. Served with Golden Wagon Wheel Fries

Yelp
We have never been here so today we came at about 5pm to try it. Service was first both on taking our drink orders and food orders. Noise level is pretty high making conversation difficult. The food was good I had the vaquero plate with crispy taco, tamale, 2 beef enchiladas with rise and refried beans. My wife got a similar plate with beef quesadillas. My crispy taco was soggy as it was on the same plate with everything else. Overall allot of food good quality and ok food but we don't live close so wouldn't come back.

Yelp
Good tasting food and very fast lunch service. I ordered the lunch portion of the chicken and spinach quesadilla, and was delightfully surprised by the large portion size and inclusion of tasty toppings. I wish that the quesadillas had been slightly warmer and crispier on the outside, but they still had really good flavor and it is great value for the money. Pro tip - split an entree and don't forget to grab a fun lime flavored mint on the way out.

Yelp
We came here to enjoy a birthday dinner. The restaurant was nice inside and they have a soft serve machine near the entrance. Yyyeeaaahhh! In the middle of the restaurant they have two saddles. Perfect place for a photo op. We were seated in the back of the restaurant near the doors to go outside. With it being cooler weather out, we definitely felt that cold wind whenever somebody opened the door. They serve creamy jalapeño sauce and salsa here. I love creamy jalapeño sauce. Yum! Our server was pleasant and I gotta say the workers there were smiling. This definitely helped the experience we had dining here. I ordered the shrimp stuffed avocado. When it arrived it looked amazing! The two shrimps on top were huge! My dish wasn't piping hot like they just flash fried it. I know when serving groups it's hard to get everything warm since the rest of the plates have to come out at the same time. I liked the chipotle sauce drizzled on top. The lime cilantro rice was a tad sweet and had a hint of coconut. The black beans were good and I gotta say this place offers a different flavor than the usual Tex Mex places you be used to. I tried the charro beans and it's definitely a different flavor. This place is definitely a hit or miss. I've gotta try one of their specials or popular dishes when I come back to really know how I feel about the food. As for the experience, it was definitely amazing!

Terri B.

Yelp
We love Vaquero's! Big and beautiful stand alone restaurant on 360 has great service and food. You have to try the baked oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer - It is superb! Chips and hot sauce are the best in town. Also their cheese enchiladas and crispy chicken tacos were great! Hubbie had the chicken chili relleno and loved it. Margaritas were great too! Extensive menu and great outside space for kids to play.

Yelp
Sunday brunch was well received by the family with a unique mix of tres leches pancakes, migas, beans, and then shrimp cocktail.

Yelp
I never knew I wanted to eat a meal out of a plater tray until I order from Vaquero's. We ordered two dishes togo on a Saturday night and was very confused when the bag was given to me. I was worried I stole someone else meal. The bag was massive with a big bag of chips and two large sealed togo trays. I confirmed my name was on the bag and headed out. When we got home, I was able to see our two dishes, very nicely laid out. Both taco meals came filled to the brim with meat and they didn't slack on the rice and beans. Each dish was easily enough food for 2 meals a piece. The ground beef tacos had plenty of flavor and the pork tacos was so juicy that I needed some extra napkins. The only negative of the meal was that the chips was in dyer need of some salt. Not sure if we got a batch before they were salted but they were on the bland side of things. That being said, we will definitely keep this spot on our rotation of togo spots.

Yelp
The food was good and the margaritas were very good. We liked the flights of margaritas. Very tasty and fun. The bartender/server did an outstanding job and was very friendly and attentive. Will go back.

Yelp
Im always looking for new good spots and also try to find places that my mom would enjoy when it comes to Mexican food because she is the biggest critic lol, so this is actually my second time here. My son was treating me for my birthday and stated I can pick the spot I wanted to eat at but I wanted to make sure that it was a place everyone around me would enjoy as well with lots of options for both food and drinks. It was a hit. Everyone loved the food and drinks they had and we had an array of food to try, starting with char grilled oysters. Im not an oyster lover as a matter of fact they are a bit gross to me lol but the way they make them here was good and i liked it. The boys loved it. For the main course I had a stuffed avocado with shrimp and this thing was huge. lol I thought it was a shareable size when they brought it to the table. It was really good and freshly cooked but definitely couldn't finish it. The boys had carnitas tacos (full of flavor and delicious). My mom had the enchiladas plate and she cleaned that plate up! so I know it was excellent. Now the drinks...Everyone of them was excellent. My favorite was the Hacienda watermelon margarita on the rocks, such a refreshing delicious drink and the watermelon that came with it dipped in the drink was so good. The restaurant itself is pretty spacious and the have outdoor patio seating in the back as well. They have the own parking area. I enjoyed the decor and ambiance of the place and plenty of nice spots to take pics. The bathrooms were clean, the staff is on point with everything and the food and drinks came in good time. Everything was made fresh to order. I highly recommend this spot and I will definitely be returning and possibly put this place in the mix of places to visit when we have guests from out of town.

Yelp
We decided to try some Tex Mex food and picked Vaqueros. My husband ordered over the phone but I believe you can order online. When he went to pick up the food there were issues. Apparently the chef didn't read the ticket correctly and made several extra items. My husband brought it up and they apologized. They removed the extra food but left an item given to us for free for the inconvenience. We ended up with an extra set of enchiladas, rice, and black beans. My husband was very happy about how they handled the situation. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas with rice and black beans. We also ordered some flour tortillas and chips and salsa. The chips were nice and crispy. The red salsa was flavorful. The chicken enchiladas came with Monterrey Jack cheese, chicken, and a choice of sauce. I chose the salsa verde. The enchiladas were good. I could have used a little more salsa verde but the enchiladas were good. The rice and black beans were okay. The tortillas were warm, and filling. Overall it was a good meal.

Yelp
Been there twice, both times good food and decent service. Only downside was the tortilla machine was not going and I didn't get to try one

Yelp
The food is amazing here!!!! I will absolutely be going back! And their margaritas were bomb too.

Yelp
I had a really great Brunch buffet experience at Vaquero's. There is a large variety of texmex breakfast items as well as more traditional breakfast . I tried a bit of everything and my favorite was probably the tres leches pancakes! For $25 it's definitely worth a try. One thing to point out, they have servers at all the stations so portion sizes are VERY generous. I was looking more to try a bit of everything so I ended up sharing each portion with some friends. It's such a minor thing, and does keep the line more sanitary so I wasn't too inconvenienced. The servers were all very friendly and I had a wonderful experience.

Yelp
The first star for any Mexican restaurant depends on chips and salsa. V delivers in spades with large, crispy thin chips paired with a spicy, roasty, citrusy, and LARGE bowl of salsa. The salsa brings some heat, built for locals. They also serve ranch with it, and while not anything special imho, it is a nice option for kids and non-spicy eaters. Draft beer was cold and tasty, from a selection of classic Mexican and popular Tx-American brands. Warning to IPA and other crafty fans: very few options for beer snobs. Go Tex-Mex or go home here. I had fajitas picosas, fajitas with a healthy dose of peppers and onions. Unlike most fajitas, the chicken was moist and juicy. The fixin's were spot on, and the flour tortillas fresh and house made. Rice fluffy and not oily with solid charros (meaty and salty without cilantro). I honestly could not find one thing to complain about. It's my first visit but I'll 100% be back.

Yelp
I had to get this off my chest, Its been a few weeks since I had eaten at vaqueros in Westlake. Been there before for brunch. It was outstanding. This last time, not so much. 2 adults 2 kids. 117.00 plus tip. It was Friday night and maybe 5 other tables were in use. That should have been a sign. 2 kids meals and 2 moderately priced dinner meals. The catch was the margaritas. 17.00 each for a house margarita. Was definitely overcharged. The waitress got our meals wrong 3 times!. Full entrees for the kids were served. they just scraped off the excess. The main entrees were over seasoned. could only get through half of it and chose not to take the rest home. Why ? Asked to speak to the manager and after 10-15 minutes we just left. There is better Mexican food out there at a more affordable price. This is just my opinion. Won't be back anytime soon.

Yelp
We were here for a friend's birthday dinner on a cold Saturday night. We were seated at the back of the restaurant. Our table was all set up with with chips and salsa, and water as were seated. I ordered the Stuffed Avocado with rice and charro beans. The stuffed Avocado was humongous with lots of cheese on top and even inside of it. I was not a fan of it having so much cheese. The Mexican rice was ok and charro beans did not have much taste or flavor. Will I recommend this dish to my friends? The answer is a big No. Definitely try something else like the enchiladas which I heard was pretty darn good. Overall the server was attentive and came around our table to check on us. So, 5 star to her and 3 star to the Stuffed Avocado.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this place. I'm not sure why all the bad reviews. It's a great atmosphere and the food is awesome! Not to mention the service. I've been here a few times and Devon the bartender remembers your name and even drinks! The service is impeccable! Come give Devon a chance you won't be let down. At times he's alone in the bar at lunch area so be human and show some patience :) ! Ps.... the fresh jalapeños are freaking dangerous!!!

Yelp
Great food and great margaritas. Service is great also wait time is never bad not even on a weekend!

Marcelo L.

Yelp
Well it had been a pleasant place to take the family. Drinks were overpriced but to be fair, strong. Food is on par with Oasis. The to-go experience is something different. Almost if the entire staff roles their eyes as you walk to the bar. Busy, I get it but not a single offer of help, cold food and missing tortillas for fajitas. All too common. We won't be going back anytime soon.

Yelp
Wanted to find a Mexican place near a business park by the Mall and lucked out! The Lunch special is Huge! Saltillo Burrito was big enough for 2 and only $11. The Shrimp Stuffed Avocado was more than enough for 1 person and the 2 shrimp on top were giant. My favorite was the chips and salsa to start
google avatar

Alan Y.

Yelp
This was one of our favorites. I ordered the shrimp cocktail. Then menu reads: "Shrimp Cocktail $20.99 Six Marinated Jumbo Shrimp in a Citrus Cocktail Sauce with Pico de Gallo, Fresh Cilantro, Cucumber, Avocado, and Lime." The taste was OK, but no sign of jumbo shrimp. I kept digging and hoping, but the only shrimp I found was the tiniest salad shrimp like that comes in a can. I thought I must have misread the menu so I let it go. Checking the menu online, it did clearly say jumbo shrimp. Very disappointing.

Yelp
I haven't been here in years. They have changed. I was extremely disappointed in the fajita beef. There was something off about the meat. Sad this restaurant is not as good as it once was. Service is nice. Roomy atmosphere.

Yelp
We went to the location off 360. It was amazing from start to finish. There were a few large tables with families and we had a nice booth off to the side. The service was excellent. The food was amazing. I had difficulty choosing something since the menu had items beyond Tex-Mex. The chips were warm and the salsa was just right. We will be going back again soon to explore other menu items. I always start with the Chicken Enchiladas when visiting a new Tex-Mex place. They may be the best Chicken Enchiladas in Austin. Large portion stuffed with shredded chicken. The sour cream sauce was excellent and they smothered the top with cheese.

Yelp
Always a great time to stop by! Whether u have a group or a date or solo, this spot has great house margaritas and a huge selection of food. Friday night , no wait, great date spot place. Looks like cute outside seating available. El burro burrito is a must try if you are in for a big meal! Super friendly staff. Parking looked tricky, lots of extra parking spots next door.

Yelp
Came in for a lunch not expecting anything special, but those fajitas just about rival anything in town. Great food. Really good value.

Yelp
This has become our favorite local restaurant for Mexican food. The food has been excellent! Very tasty, generous serving sizes, consistently served promptly, presented well, and hot, and the meals here have been a good value. The ambiance is quaint and unassuming. Noise levels have been relatively low when we have been there. Service has always been helpful and quick. We have been looking for a good Mexican style restaurant ever since COVID disrupted our dining choices.

Yelp
After many bad experiences we decided that we will no longer ever return to this restaurant. Our last visit sealed the deal. Our server got our order completely wrong, drinks and food. They lied about what we received but forgot to change the receipt proving that they lied. Our server didn't write down our order which is fine if you have a good memory but clearly she didn't. Sadly they will miss out on good customers as we always stopped by on our way to and from the airport.

Yelp
First time here and it was a good experience. Environment: This restaurant has a weird layout and it is a lot bigger than it looks (seating wise) when you want in. It was pretty quiet went we first showed up around 5:30pm but by the time we left 7pm. Food: I ordered the 3 taco plate with a mix of beef and chicken. It was a decent meal, but nothing stellar. Drinks: Our table ordered multiple drinks (party of 4). We got the house, strawberry, and watermelon margaritas. If I had to rank them, they would be in that above order. Keep in mind that I don't like really sweet drinks. They were all good though. Staff: when my wife and I first got there, we sat at the bar while we waited for the rest of our party. The bartender was nice but slow (we were the only ones at the bar) and not paying much attention to us. She was more focused on making the servers drinks and ended up getting out drinks wrong. Once our party got there, we closed out and moved to a table. Our sever there was awesome! He was quick when he could be and got everything we ordered right. I was pretty upset that he had NO HELP with busing our table. There was a guy that keep staring at our table but did nothing (I think his job was to just keep chip baskets full). To make it MORE obvious we moved all our dishes and cups to the other side of the table we weren't sitting at....still nothing. At this point, our server had like 4+ tables and I saw a manager on duty walk by several times and did nothing. Finally the Manager on duty came and said "let me clear some of these cups for you, so it doesn't look like you guys are drinking a lot". I'm pretty sure the only reason he cleaned some cups was because the bar was running low, because he grabbed margarita glasses and went straight to the bar with them.

Yelp
The location at Steiner has SUPER INSANE Salty food, so visit this location ONLY. The one in Steiner (quinlan) has such salty food you literally cannot eat it without your lips and tongue hurting from it- it's really unpleasant. The waiter admitted they do this on purpose, so sad as I wasn't even drinking alcohol.

Yelp
Love the ambiance. We have driven by here 100's of times. And everytime I think "we need to try them". I will have to try the place again because I don't think I had the best experience. The food was decent but not amazing. The service was okay. But I was there kind of late at night. So I'm willing to give the place a second try.

Yelp
Randomly passed by this place on a Sunday & decided to give it a try! Was super happy with the service, food, portion sizes, and environment. Chili con queso was great, chips and salsa are super good as well!! Also they give you enough food to last two meals

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food and great service. We always get seated immediately and their seafood and chicken are fresh and tender. Their guacamole is very good and their portion sizes are generous. It's also nice they have free soft serve ice cream when you leave. Vaquero's is our go to Mexican restaurant.
