"If you’re looking for a restaurant with an authentic maritime flavour, this eatery overlooking the small yet attractive port of Mikrolimano will come as a pleasant surprise. Here, the relaxing ambience is in perfect harmony with superb views of the fishing boats moored out front. Traditionally, Piraeus is known as the port of Athens, hence the plethora of tavernas and restaurants specialising in fish and seafood located here. Varoulko Seaside follows the same influence, although chef Lefteris Lazarou takes his maritime cuisine to another level. The freshest ingredients are key to his cuisine which is based around the catch of the day (sea bass, red mullet, grouper, tuna, shrimp, prawns etc) and presented on an à la carte and two tasting menus." - Michelin Inspector

Athens: The Best Seafood Restaurants for Feasting on Fish

"Helmed by Lefteris Lazarou—often called the admiral of Greek cuisine and the first chef in Greece to earn a MICHELIN Star—this Mikrolimano institution spreads its dining rooms and panoramic terraces over three harbour-facing levels for a spectacular view. The kitchen serves only seafood, showcasing mussels from Chalkidiki, prawns from Platamónas and ‘gamberi’ from Ermioni, while all fish are certified 100% Greek thanks to the chef’s long-standing relationships with suppliers who call him first. Lazarou isn’t afraid of species others overlook, transforming them into signatures like divine squid spaghetti with ouzo pesto and wonderfully delicate cuttlefish in squid ink; a cellar of some 280 wines deepens the experience. Beloved by gourmets and politicians alike, it all adds up to an unforgettable meal." - The MICHELIN Guide

4 Excellent Restaurants in Athens, Greece

"Varoulko sits in a great spot in Mikrolimano Marina—the chef's old neighborhood. Watch the yachts glide by from the maritime-themed dining room which opens onto the water. Greek and Mediterranean dishes feature organic vegetables, Cretan olive oil and the freshest seafood; squid and octopus feature highly." - The MICHELIN Guide

While the restaurant’s Michelin pedigree is apparent, what stands out most is the consistency and restraint of the kitchen. The flavors are clean and well-balanced, and many dishes offer thoughtful combinations that highlight the quality of the ingredients. A few courses felt slightly safe, but the precision of execution more than compensates. The strongest plates are the ones where the chef leans into bolder flavor profiles, and the dessert course is a clear highlight—elegant and expertly composed. Overall, an impressive experience with flashes of brilliance.

A typical appetizer, main course and a bottle of wine is $200 (170+ Euro). Service is responsive and excellent. The food, as a Michelin Star restaurant, is beautifully prepared, visually appealing, and generally good, but not exceptional. The catch of the day grilled fish - a sea bream large enough for four diners - was excellent. My reaction to the two dishes I chose was less favorable. The grilled squid with an avocado and squid ink sauce was overpowered by the sauce. The squid appetizer was perfectly grilled, but the flavor was overpowered by a soup of sauce. The main tagliatelle Cipriani with grouper, cherry tomatoes and minced shrimp was also overpowered by sauce and spices. A lighter touch would have made the dishes perfect. The dessert Bougatsa mousse with sorbet was perfection and visually a work of art.

A perfect setting on the 2nd floor with a.grest view of the mikrolimani Bay area. Great service and good food Red shrimp and fish were the best followed by the scallops and tagliatelle Cipriani that had too many condiments that dominated the fish. Bougatsa dessert is a very good choice - is a completely different desert than traditional bougatsa well balanced flavours - a must try. I would suggest the chef to try the “pen” as it tasted a bit stale. I would visit it again

Splendid! Lucky enough to stumble across this gem for lunch after a sunny walk through Pireaus. Classy place, relaxed atmosphere and the food is just perfect: taste, structure, temperature, presentation… all of it is really well done. Go for it!

Such a stunning view overlooking the harbor. This was the best Greek salad we had of the entire trip. Worth it and could’ve had a second one! The octopus carpaccio and seafood tagliatelle were also highlights for me, though everything was fantastic.

On our final evening, we almost canceled our reservation, we were tired from a full trip and tempted to simply call it a night. Thankfully, we didn’t. What awaited us was, without question, the finest meal of our entire vacation. Every course felt thoughtfully crafted, with flavors that lingered and a presentation that elevated the experience beyond a simple dinner. Choosing the tasting menu was the best decision we could have made; it transformed the evening into something truly memorable and left us wishing we had discovered this place sooner.

The atmosphere was truly beautiful — elegant yet welcoming — and the restaurant offered a lovely spot for dinner, with a charming view of the harbor. However, I would rate the service 4 out of 5 stars. While everything was pleasant, I expected a bit more attention to detail and a touch more finesse, especially from a Michelin-starred restaurant. The food was good, but it fell just short of the exceptional experience I was hoping for.

All seafood menu, no meats. The food, service, wine, location and ambiance were all excellent. Knowledgable sommelier and waiter, perfect background music, great view over the harbour. Elevator available. A bit pricey but it’s costly to provide this level of quality and it’s worth every penny. Thanks to all for the experience.
