These are definitely the best donuts in a one hundred dollar mile radius! I might be a little nuts for saying this, but honestly, these donuts could easily compete with any of the ones in Kansas City. Arrive early in the morning to enjoy the freshest donuts and avoid the line. This collection is incredibly playful. I mean, it truly stands out! They offer every type, color, and flavor of donut that you can imagine. There's even a donut that resembles one of my favorite childhood characters. Try the "D is for Donut," and you'll see why it holds a special place in my heart. Even the ambiance is special. There is something special about Varsity Donuts. Every customer appears to be experiencing a part of their unwritten story and cherishing every moment of it!

Google
Pros: good friendly service, clean, product variety. Cons: basic donuts, college town effort, This a very typical donut location. For transparency we did show up about an hour before closing and got donuts at a discount. I believe they were buy one get one half off. The girl behind the counter was friendly and helped out with all of my mother-in laws questions.

Google
This is my go to place for donuts it is so delicious!! And it’s super clean, the people are nice and it’s in a great part of town!!

Hayden Haake

Google
We were hoping that this would be a wonderful experience based on the reviews and the atmosphere of the location. Hope was strong when we ordered our food even though the two people working up front were busy trying to watch a football game on a tablet instead of working the counter. All of that faded when we tried the actual donuts. These were the most bland and tasteless donuts we have had and they didn't even taste fresh. The bacon on top of the maple bacon donut was absolutely disgusting. It literally tasted like grocery store salad bacon, it was chewy and not crispy and at times completely inedible and I had to spit it out. The trash cans were overflowing and the bathroom was a complete wreck and disgusting. Their coffee was also disappointing and tasted cheap. I would not recommend this place for donuts and would look elsewhere in town there are much better options that are not as flashy because they put their love into the food and not into merchandise that overflows the entire seating area.

Google
Finally had a chance to try Varsity - they were not in existence when I lived in MHK. It had a good atmosphere and the staff was friendly and helpful. I thought the donuts were pretty solid and they did not last long on the kitchen island! The Honeymooner Chocolate was a pleasant surprise. An hour is long way to drive for donuts but I have a new reason to make a detour at the start of a road trip west!

Google
Great variety of affordable gourmet style doughnuts. Love the many varieties and the appealing look and presentation. Very nice and clean shop. The taste of the doughnuts were very good and tasted exactly how you expected from the name of the item you order. Delicious

Google
Great team each time we've visited. Yummy treat. Don't miss their late night Varsity Truck or a grilled cheese mac-n-cheese.

Payton Siemens

Google
I ordered 24 donuts and they gave me 22 when I got home and counted. I guess count your donuts before you leave the store! They have great donuts other than that.

Yelp
If you know, you know...Varisty is a must visit when in Manhattan! The donuts are delicious and unique, and the vibes at Varsity are distinctly Manhattan. There's plenty of seating inside to enjoy donuts with family and friends, or take them to go. Their merch is very cute as well - t-shirts, stickers, and more. My favorites are the opals - the blueberry is to die for, in my opinion, but they are all good! There's a wide variety of options to fit everyone's tastes. Right on the edge of Aggieville, you can stop in first thing in the morning, but be prepared to wait. I prefer to go later in the day - there's still a good selection, and they will be stay fresh until the next morning (though they make delicious snacks are a night in the 'Ville, too...)

Yelp
I stopped in the other day while in town on business and tried the Scouts Honor and Strawberry Opal donuts. Scouts Honor was good and the strawberry was just okay. It was later in the day so there was a small selections of donuts to choose from and they were a bit dry from sitting out (which is to be somewhat expected). The woman working was so pleasant and friendly and had wonderful customer service. I did however notice a lot of flys in the store which could be out of the norm for them and it is still nice outside but it seemed like there was a bunch flying around and by some of the donuts. It did throw me off a little.

Yelp
This place seems to have a large following in Manhattan. I liked the vintage decor and friendly staff. They had a decent variety of donuts to choose from. As for the donuts they were too sweet for my liking and didn't have much definitive flavors on the dounuts.
google avatar

Jordan J.

Yelp
Blueberry Opal...10/10 that's the only donut I come here for but I know they have a bunch of other yummy options! Depending on what time you go if it's later in the evening the donuts are BOGO.
google avatar

Cara S.

Yelp
Great donut! It's also hard to beat their buy one get one free at 6:00. Their cinnamon twist was really good and comparable to my favorite donut shop back home.
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
Dry. Dense. Disappointing. Day-old. Donuts. Shoot! I really wanted to leave a good review here. Maybe my expectations were too high?! Sadly, this place isn't even as good as the grocery store donuts we have out west. Unfortunately until this very moment I didn't realize how good the donuts are where I live out west. Wow! What a difference! If you want light fluffy soft tasty melt-in-your mouth fresh donuts go west folks. Go west. If you want dry donuts and an old rickety rental bike this appears to be the place.

Yelp
I was in Manhattan visiting my best friend and she was been wanting to try this place. There is a LOT of construction in this area which made driving to and parking kind of a pain, but I know it isn't their fault so I'm not taking any stars off for that. This place is really cute inside and they kept a lot of the original features of what was once Palace Drug Store (including the hand-laid tile floor which is around 90 years old!). I love when newer businesses are able to keep original features. Now, on to Varsity Donuts itself: We walked in and it was completely empty as it was about 10:30 on a Friday and campus was pretty empty. The girl are the counter greeted us and was very nice. We immediately went to their merch wall as you first walk in which has lots of cute doughnut-branded shirts, stickers, cups, and buttons. We then walked over to the doughnuts and many of them looked good - flavor wise. I got the chocolate bar, the red velvet doughnut, and milk. My bestie got the Maple bacon bar and the K-Stater with milk. I think everything all together was under $14. We sat inside which was great. The regular doughnuts are $1ish and the bars are $2ish and the bars are massive! Texture and flavor wise, I was very happy with the yeast and the cake doughnut. Not greasy, dense, or dry and all of the flavors paired well together without being overwhelming. Sometimes with cream cheese frosting, people can lean towards the "too bitter" realm which I know some people enjoy to offset the sweet factor, but I feel like with the Red Velvet doughnut - they did well going mildly sweet for both the doughnut and the frosting. My bestie loved hers are well. I did try a bit of the maple frosting and it was really nice and didn't have that kind of fake flavor that some give off. Overall, would definitely recommend and come back.

Yelp
The service was terrible! The young lady who took our order was not friendly nor helpful. However, the donuts were delicious!

M P.

Yelp
Poor, poor service! No greeting when approached the counter. Inquired about the donut selection and were told the donuts in the counter were the only ones available even though we could see other kinds on trays. Picked a variety of donuts to make a dozen which taken from the back and not the counter. When we got home we found we did not get the donuts we selected!! Server did not ask if we wanted a receipt. Server did not thank us. Service was definitely disappointing.

Yelp
Good donuts. Not amazing and not quite as filled or topped as one would like. The pumpkin spice was my fav but the Boston cream was not well filled.
google avatar

Wesley F.

Yelp
Our favorite donut place in Manhappiness! Our girls now insist on at least one trip to Varsity whenever we come to Manhattan. They have a great variety of donuts and the sugar is not totally overwhelming as it can be at some places.

Kathy D.

Yelp
The doughnuts were just okay. I love a good donut so I was disappointed. It's a pain to park so we ended up parking several blocks away and walking. It is close to the University so it would really be a pain if there was an event going on.
google avatar

Yelp
Mediocre at best. The Varsity Truck is the only thing really going too. Their cake donuts are dry and extremely tiny for the the price. The blueberry one is worth trying though. The regular donuts aren't too bad so I would go for those and go ahead and skip the cake donut. The vibe in shop is really cool and the decor is awesome. I would definitely recommend that Mac and cheese grilled cheese that they serve late at night at the Varsity Truck. So so good when you're leaving the bar and you're starving!!! Customer service can be a hit or miss here btw.

Yelp
Awesome little donut shop in Manhattan. Their donuts are delicious, nice indoor seating & a grand piano kids can use.
google avatar

Madeline H.

Yelp
Favorite donuts. Love coming here. They don't skimp on sprinkles and that's one of the reasons I like it. Also the donuts are just good. All their merch is great. Just another reason to love the little apple + aggieville!!

Yelp
I was in Manhattan on work related business and in serious need of breakfast because I did not get a chance to grab it before I left the house. I was actually on my way to a Burger King, when I saw varsity donuts to the left and I decided to go ahead and just pulled in and it was like there was a little parking spot waiting just for me. First of all my overall impression of where it was located is a little etchy for me. I'm not the kind of person that likes crowded areas and so just being in downtown Manhattan right near the K State campus is really not my vibe but the shop was lit up with lights it looked real trendy so I decided to go in. I like the vibe of the inside it has a quirky feel and I'm a quirky kind of girl so I easily felt comfortable when I walked in. The girl behind the counter was very friendly and a lady that was inside on her computer laughed at everything that I said every time I said something she just fell out laughing she told me I was extremely funny. I've never been told that before. I was surprised to find various types of donuts there. Some you recognized right off and then some you literally had to read the label to know what they were. The prices were probably the most surprising. Most donut shops charge ridiculous prices for their donuts and the taste doesn't even compare to the price they're asking for, however this place I can say the taste and the price are superb. I got six donuts and only walked out paying $10 and I can't necessarily say that would be the case had I went anywhere else. So far I've only eaten the funnel cake... but I have the Larry, the blueberry opal, the red velvet and the maple opal and the chocolate opal left to try and it's good as they look no I am not going to be disappointment now I know that if I'm ever in Manhattan and I am in need of a sweet tooth filling or a breakfast diversion, I will definitely come here again...Hoodoggie!!!!

Chris N.

Yelp
I wanted to love these donuts. The store looks great and there was a huge line of people waiting. The donuts were unfortunately inconsistent. My glazed one was solid but my cinnamon sugar was dry and seemed a day old. The ones my wife tried didn't seem to impress her either.

Yelp
Great donuts! All the staff are super nice and bubbly personalities. It's a cute little place, would recommend!

Yelp
We have had super awesome donuts from here every time we visit Manhattan... This time we kicked it up a notch and got hot fresh donuts with a box of (10) corn dogs that were about to feed a Small army of drinkers at the bar. They made them fresh to order and the taste was simply heavenly. I do appreciate that made them fresh and let us know the amount of time it would take. The wait is way worth it. If YOU are in the area this is a must stop. I can't wait to visit again! Thank you Varsity donut! Respectfully, Bryan OKC
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
Great donuts for a quick snack. Prices are very cheap considering all the donuts are unique flavors and toppings. Cozy feel inside. Love that they give out the donuts in metal trays where you don't have to worry about getting crumbs all over the place. I would August the Blueberry Opal. It's just sweet enough to hit the spot but not over doing it. The donuts are all made fresh daily and they have a nice selection that rotates each day for some new flavors.

Yelp
Just an iconic place to visit in Manhattan-not to be missed! The Boston Cream donut is delish!
google avatar

Stan P.

Yelp
we were told when in manhattan Kansas we had to visit varsity donuts. the donuts were good the people friendly too i'm from california and to have two donuts for $1.08 is unheard of.

Yelp
Hometown quirks, merch, yes; but the donuts are dry. Stopped by Varsity Donuts mid-morning and ordered on our way out of the Little Apple. A beautiful storefront with a display of jewel-colored donuts were complemented by a cluster of dark hardwood booths. Ordered a dozen rings including maple bacon, Samoa, raspberry and custard-filled donuts, as well as a cinnamon roll. Unfortunately, the wide variety of flavors and preparation options couldn't cover up the fact that the donuts themselves were dry. Like Dunkin' Donuts dry, though with a slightly better underlying crumb taste. And like Dunkin', probably need some coffee or milk to wash them down. Better high-end hometown donuts are available - see Allie's Donuts in Rhode Island, Holy Donut in Portland, ME, Blazing Fresh donuts in Guilford, CT, or pretty much any Asian-run mom-and-pop shop in Northern California. Drop by Varsity Donuts for the photos; get breakfast elsewhere.

Yelp
Have not been there in a number of years, but I'll never forget the amazing bacon and maple donuts with whole slices of bacon. Absolutely amazing!

Yelp
I stopped by here this past Saturday night with my wife for some after dinner snacks. By the time we got to Varsity Donuts, it was around 9:45 and they closed at 10. As such, their stock was a little decimated. In any case Varsity Donuts is a large shop that sits on N Manhattan Ave and serves Donuts and some merchandise as well. Their Donuts are in a large display case on one side of the restaurant while their merchandise is on the other. They also have a number of board games that you can play and on this evening there were two girls playing ping pong at a ping pong table as well. For my dessert I decided to go with the blueberry blueberry opal while my wife chose the party girl. Soon we were out the door and all told we were maybe in Varsity Donuts for 2 or 3 minutes. Whenever I took the Donuts out of our bag I have to admit that I was a little disappointed that my donut was a little smaller than my wife's. However once I tasted both of them I was very happy with my selection. As promised in the blueberry blueberry name, both the frosting on my donut as well as the donut itself were blueberry. That gave it a strong blueberry flavor which was pleasing and sweet without being overly sweet. My wife's donut was also good but I thought it was the garden variety cake donut with sweet frosting. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I really enjoyed my donut and thought that the price was fair too!

Amil I.

Yelp
Doughnuts were delicious, very good price. Hope the street situation gets fixed soon.

Yelp
Varsity Donuts is a place that you have to see when exploring Manhattan. The customer service is over the top and the donuts are the best you will have- hands down. Not to mention there are cute things to do such as coloring, board games, a piano, and a ping pong table! Definitely a go to place to visit whenever you're in town.

Yelp
OMG just yes!!!! These donuts are so so good!!! The flat tire was probably my favorite. You could tell they are fresh and homemade. They just melt in your mouth like butter. I love they offer yeast and cake. My husband loves cake and I love yeast, and we both had ample choices. On our road trip to CO this has definitely been one of my top donuts so far!!! Yummy!!!

Yelp
We finally had a chance to visit at Varsity Donuts when in town mid-week for my sister's wedding. Varsity is housed in what used to be my favorite place to shop while growing up, the Palace Drugstore. It was a mecca for fun things - food, kitchy gifts, Hallmark cards, stickers...just awesomeness. But if the Palace had to close, I'm glad that Varsity Donuts came along to fill the space. They kept the Palace's great floors and display cabinets, filling them with tons of donuts and donut holes. You can even rent bikes there. That's a little random, but if the business model works...right? The donuts were good, but really needed to be warmed up to be truly enjoyable. The cake texture was slightly thick and, eaten cold (room temp) seem more heavy than I prefer. I guess I'm more of a yeasty donut lover than a cake donut lover. However, live and learn. Let's chalk it up to learning for our next visit.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I came in at 7 am when they opened and none of the donuts I got were remotely warm. In fact, they didn't taste super fresh. I might be spoiled, growing up in Indy and getting Long's Donuts. The service was good and the place was clean and had a cool vibe.
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
Varsity Donuts is really awesome. I am not really a donut eater but the donuts here are fun and I have tried several. The space inside is really neat and Varsity even rents cruiser bikes. One thing I really appreciate is signage - each flavor has a sign, most with labels that make the donut flavor obvious. There was one I needed a description on yesterday and the staff easily shared the ingredients. The other thing about Varsity Donuts is its late night food truck behind the store. This is open Thursday-Saturday, 10 PM - 2 AM and serves up the famous grilled mac n cheese sandwich as well as hot donuts. I was told I needed to try one of these sandwiches to be "initiated" into the community so I made it a hungry priority and I was not disappointed for $4. This is a must-stop in the MHK, whether for breakfast or late-night eats!
google avatar

Silky J.

Yelp
10/10 would recommend. Had the Blueberry donut and it was amazing. There is also a coconut donut that tastes just like a Carmel Delight Girlscout cookie. If I am back in MHK this will be the donut shop I will return to! Staff was very kind also although being fairly busy while there is a marathon going on.
google avatar

Angie W.

Yelp
I'm not gonna lie I wasn't impressed by their donuts. I think this place is overrated. I got a dozen and a half and got a free donut with my dozen! Their donuts have way too much icing which doesn't even taste great. They're just popular because wits one of the few popular places in Manhattan. I don't plan on returning if I go back to Manhattan. Their donuts are bEtween $.95-$1.35 which isn't awfuL, but they are average to velow average tasting wise. Sorry.
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
If you're a donut fan and you're in the vicinity of Manhattan, Kansas, make sure you stop by Varsity Donuts to try some of their creative donut flavors! We made sure to call a day ahead and reserve a couple of their maple bacon bars since we were picking them up on a Sunday, and thank goodness we did! The line was out the door around noon, and they had sold out of the maple bacon hours ago. It took us about 15-20 minutes to get to the front of the line, and we ended up trying: -Blueberry Opal (Blueberry Frosting/Blueberry Cake, $0.89), The Opal (Buttermilk Cake, $0.89), Maple Bacon Bar (Maple Frosting, Bacon, $2.89) [http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/varsity-donuts-manhattan?select=CDaTR7mUK_sEDfQmnha_sg#CDaTR7mUK_sEDfQmnha_sg]: All of the donuts were good, but the favorite by far was the maple bacon. Their bacon pieces were nice and crispy, and the maple frosting wasn't too sweet. Highly recommended! I love that you can get classic donut flavors here and also new combinations. The staff here is also super nice, and makes your visit that much better. Parking in the downtown area is easy except for weekends, and especially crowded on game days.

Yelp
Service: 5 | Quality: 5 | Setting: 4 | Value: 5 Must get: Mac n Cheese Grilled Cheese This food truck is tucked away in the alley behind the Varsity Donuts restaurant, and opens late night. We were told this was one of the "must eat" in Manhattan, KS while we were in town for a conference, and it sure does live up to the hype. We went around 1am an the line was all the way to the street! Everything on their menu is delicious! From the mac and cheese grilled cheese, to the box of donuts, you have to try everything. Also, there's no excuse because it's sooo CHEAP!
google avatar

Ernesto H.

Yelp
Went in a Monday. Everything around was either closed or dead empty, so we decided to get a donut. Got the red velvet and the cinnamon roll, both were delicious. Also a pretty aesthetically pleasing place!
google avatar

Kim N.

Yelp
Just a hop and a skip away over from K-State. This little doughnut shop is enough to quench that sweet tooth. Since I didn't order anything but was there for the my sister and daughters moral support . Everything looked good you're not going to get much of a review from me other than pictures...
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
We only went here once. I really liked the variety of donuts they have there. They only have brewed coffee though, no lattes. So we just got a half dozen donuts to go.
google avatar

Bradley R.

Yelp
Came in with the lady for a late evening donut. I go for a chocolate and the lady had the purple pride. Both pretty good. They have lots of merch to look at and games for the kids. Was kind of interesting kids playing with toys while tipsy college kids ooh and aww the display case. Overall we liked them. Not the best donuts in the world but the best you'll get downtown on a Friday night after a few drinks. The Good Lots of flavors. Good prices. Friendly staff. The Bad Nothing we could think of. The Ugly Nada we think varsity is A-OK.
google avatar

Kendra B.

Yelp
Varsity Donuts can give me diabetes any day and I'd say thank you Too amazing and each donut decorated to the nines! Every employee I've been served by were so nice, inviting, and witty. Then the interior design is my favorite part. I don't have the vernacular to properly describe the style..but it feels like a cabin with a modern day vibe and accessorized by adorable wall art and ceiling decor.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
LOVE everything about this place! The shop itself is other worldly. The staff is fun & friendly. The T-shirts are great oh and the DONUTS...OUT OF CONTROL!! They are not overly sweet which means you can eat more than one It's a must try place at Kansas State University!
google avatar

Patrick W.

Yelp
Drove out of our way to visit Varsity Donuts on a trip from Colorado to Missouri...but they were closed! Please update your hours of business. Wasted a ton of time. Not open as advertised 7 days a week, 6AM-10PM. :(
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
I'm not impressed by this place at all. If I wanted sub-standard service I would have gone to the meth heads at Dunkin Donuts....at least then they wouldn't all be different pathetic sizes. I thought I was supporting a local business and instead got fleeced. I asked for a dozen assorted donuts and ended up with this hodgepodge of bullshit. #nothappy #wasteofmoney #forgetthisplace #overcharged

Chris P.

Yelp
Excellent donuts! Just don't get there when they open, all the donuts are not ready then and you settle for what they have and not what you want.
google avatar

Jordann H.

Yelp
If you're in Manhattan, you've heard of varisty donuts and for good reason. Varsity serves the best donuts in town! The staff is always very friendly and you can tell the owners are very passionate about their business. My favorite is the raspberry filled and my boyfriend raves about the maple bacon donut, but no matter what donut you choose you will leave happy! A must if you are in Manhattan.
google avatar

Meredith M.

Yelp
If you are visiting or unfamiliar with Aggieville, then you will miss out if you don't hit up Varsity Donuts. Obviously the university students cherish this place but local families are also here whenever I've visited. During the day, stop in for a coffee and donut (or two). Unique flavors (the normal, seasonal, and out of the ordinary) but the blueberry one is a must try. The prices are very fair and the staff decently friendly. It's also a place that you could stay and study/work for a bit too... My one complaint, as is most of the time at similar places, is where is the reusable ware? I would have loved to see actual plates and ceramic coffee mugs to cut back on waste. Half of the people that came while I was last there stayed, and could have benefited from non-disposable ware. Varsity Donuts ALSO has a weekend late night food truck where you HAVE to get the grilled cheese Mac and cheese. This is a real treasure. You will never regret this decision and constantly crave it forevermore. You can also get a plate of bacon, corn dog, or mini donuts. Maybe a few more things that I forgot about. And surprisingly it wasn't just drunk students here even at the wee hours of the morning... You deserve a treat, so just go here!
google avatar

Bobbie J.

Yelp
Strictly speaking of their donuts, sadly they are hyped up. They are just plain, nothing to write home about donuts, it pains me to write this. I had such high hopes for this charming place, with its cozy decor and friendly staff. Our donuts tasted old and not fresh and thus the 2 star review.
google avatar

Kelli L.

Yelp
Went by this weekend, donuts are fine. Just basic donuts. Walmart bakery has the same if not a bit better quality for a fraction of the cost. Maple bars are very rich, but must be popular because they seem to sell out quickly. The two times I've been, there is always a couple gnats flying around on the donuts in the case.
google avatar

Todd B.

Yelp
I got the box of doughnuts delivered as a gift. Nothing shows you appreciation like a box of Varsity doughnuts. (forget the dozen roses) So many creative ideas for a doughnut. Very hard to pick a favorite.
