Best Dishes Eater LA Editors Ate This Week: April 28 | Eater LA

"A roving Salvadoran food truck with a standalone shop in Montebello’s BLVD MRKT food hall, it popped up at the Los Angeles Times’ Festival of Books, offering some of its greatest hits. While the pupusas are often the main draw, the crispy shrimp and potato tacos — served with just-acidic-enough salsa roja and allspice-flecked rice and beans — demanded full attention: the crunch is as good as it gets for crispy tacos, and they mercifully didn’t fall apart with a robust bite. Inside, pillowy mashed potatoes rest under seasoned grilled shrimp; the whole taco gets dusted in powdery, salty cotija. Somehow, eating them on a patch of lawn at the University of Southern California became a near-euphoric experience. — Nicole Adlman, cities manager" - Eater Staff

Best Gluten-Free Restaurants and Bakeries in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Until BLVD MRKT opened in 2021, Vchos co-owner Wendy Centeno ran her pupusas business from a popular food truck — where she became known for her pupusas, caramelized sweet plantains, and plant-based gluten-free empanadas. Centeno is one of Los Angeles’s most intrepid Salvadoran chefs and still operates her food truck as well as a roomier stall in the Montebello food hall. Grab a box of pupusas, served with crunchy curtido and a just-acidic-enough red salsa; a picnic table on the sunny patio; and enjoy." - Nicole Adlman

DON’T GET THE SLIDERS!!!! Ordered from the truck at an event and it was nothing but a long wait to order and long wait to receive food. When the food was ready it was missing the ingredients as advertised bacon, mushrooms and onion strings. I asked for a refund and the chef offered me bacon. When I reached out to management they said the order given was correct. I don’t know about you but spinach, cheese and cabbage are not the same as bacon, mushrooms and onion strings. Very disappointed😒

Google
Enjoyed some pupusas here from a food truck stop. Mobile ordered to avoid the line (would be about 20 min wait via mobile) but when checking in we were told they hadn't received any mobile orders. Employee then checked orders again and was able to find our order. It was then a 20 minute wait for food in person. I liked the food but could taste better if it wasn't served in cardboard (the packaging gets soft from steam).

Google
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SALVADORAN food in all of LA! The pupusas are fat, they’re not too greasy and they are always consistently amazing! My favorite is the revuelta (pork, cheese and beans), it’s so good I don’t even need sauce or cortido. Also DONT SLEEP ON THE STEAK FRIES! OMG the steak fries, they literally are meant to be shared but I have been known to smash the entire box on occasion 😂

Google
This Salvadoran fusion food truck serves up mini pupusas, sliders, and more. I tried the chorizo pupusa bites and plantain sliders—flavor explosion. Service was quick and prices were fair. You’ll find them parked near different South LA corners. Great for a quick lunch on the go

Google
Loved the location. Food was okay but more expensive than other locations. They only had one type of soda and no other drinks. Pupusas are 3x more expensive than other pupusa places. Honestly will not return

Google
The BLVD MRKT is really amazing with seven stands restaurants including Vchos Pupueria Moderna stand which started with lunch truck now they have a stand at the BLVD MRKT. My wife and I enjoy Salvadoran cuisine especially pupusa that we enjoy very much also we enjoy Plantions with bean and Salvadoran creame it's so good. My wife decided to get pupusa at Vchos Pupueria Moderna she got two pupusa and the condiment comes with pupusa and also she order plantions with bean Salvadoran creame. Overall she enjoy the pupusa very much and she enjoy the Plantions.

Google
Good food!. Our second time ordering here. The first time we ordered, it was pretty close to closing time 9p. I noticed the edge of the pupusa was very slightly undercooked. I thought maybe because it was close to closing time and they rushed?? Second time was better. Just try to order before 830p. Will keep coming back.

Google
Went to this location to buy pupusas, I ordered 2 pupusas and a sprite after waiting 30 minutes I asked how long it would take no one could give me an answer and just stared at me so I asked to refund my money or if they had the order to please give me my order. Then the lady in the back just said just give her the money so she can go away. That was rude and disrespectful. Will never ever go back.

Yelp
Located in BLVD Market on 6th street and Whittier Blvd. Best local pupusa spot in town in my opinion. Everything is made fresh to order. I've enjoyed almost the entire menu. I have yet to try the chicken, empanadas, and vegan options. I get my food to go mostly. It is one of the many vendors in BLVD Market. There is plenty of seating, and you can park across the street near Salvatore, but don't park in their spots. My go to items are the yucca con chicharon and the platano plate. I usually get those two together and share with 2-3 people. As I've stated, its made to order so there is a little bit of a wait, but its worth it. Their curtido is excellent and I usually get extra for 50 cents.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this! The portions were great, I was very satisfied! We came for my partners birthday breakfast. Our food was done in approximately 15 minutes. The seating area is nicely lit and a beautiful atmosphere to spend a weekend morning or evening.

Yelp
I had a delightful experience with their revuelta pupusa and cheese with loroco pupusa, both of which were excellent and not too oily. I also tried their horchata, but was a bit too sweet for my liking. Despite this, I enjoyed my meal overall and am looking forward to returning to try other items on their menu.

Yelp
I ordered a chicken pastelito, revuelta pupusa & a shrimp/spinach/cheese pupusa. The pastelito is definitely a good reccomendation. Crispy outer layer, juicy & savory on the inside. For the pupusas, didn't really like the shrimp/spinach one but the revuelta one is one of the better ones i've had. Definitely recommend the pastelito & revuelta pupusa Really nice lady working there too, even though her English wasn't the best, definitely a great personality!

Yelp
Love the curtido, love the pupusa, felt the sauce lacked flavor. Service was fairly fast and food came out pretty quickly.

Yelp
This location is not a truck, it is a permanent location created out of an old shipping container - repurposing at its best! Location is great, as it is in BLVD MRKT, so you can get pupusas and your friend can get pizza, and you all enjoy together. Nice picnic-style tables with umbrellas, or eat inside if it is too hot out. Pupusas are excellent! Chicken spinach cheese pupusa had terrific flavor and nice balance of fillings. Loroco and cheese pupusa was light on flavor and on loraco, so next time would try another option. Loroco is a popular food in El Salvador that we don't get much here. Tastes similar to asparagus. The Platano Empanada was so different from any empanada I have had before. It is essentially mashed plantains stuffed with sweet custard (they call that the Milk option) and fried. Dusted in sugar. Unusual and tasty! Only complaint is the DJ playing music so loudly we could not hear each other, but that is not VCHOS fault.

Yelp
Vchos food truck is a decent take on Salvadorian food. The pupusas were very greasy. Also, the cheese seemed to be different in terms of traditional pupusas. It wasn't bad however I wouldn't order it again. I think what shines here is the steak fries. They're packed with meat, sauce and enough fries to feed 2/3 people. The fries were crispy, the meat good well enough. In terms of the Platanos, they were very greasy as well. I did very much enjoy them. It was a decent portion, I'd wish there was more beans. The ratio is off in terms of that. I feel like the portion for the beans should be doubled. The food overall is very greasy. Which when ordering from a food truck, you'd kind of expect that - however; my plate was soaked of grease at the end. The truck is cute. It's nice little vibe. This one was outside the Eastvale, CA location. The service overall was good - as they were just taking orders and cooking; as a food truck is intended to be.

Yelp
they just lost a customer. Today the lady making the food in Montebello disappointed me, it went from your food will be ready in 30 minutes to 40 minutes. And on top of that the food was salty! putting too much salt on someone's food is crazy!!!! it gave me diarrhea. Do they not wash their hands or what? Yikes. Do better.
google avatar

Yelp
Pupusas were delicious; I ordered the bean and cheese. Each order comes with 2. The curtido and tomato sauce were also good. We waited around 10 minutes for our order. Staff were nice and welcoming. Plenty of seating offered in the Blvd market.

Yelp
This is another review of a popup that I tried as a result of them having been at Trademark Brewing a couple months ago (being one of my favorite local breweries, and a great place to pair beer with all manner of types of food, as their food vendor changes daily.) I will note, the pupusas themselves (that is, the exterior corn-dough part) were a little dry compared to my favorite ones (at our local farmers market), but the pork pupusa had a lot of pork in it, and the pork was pretty tasty, pulled pork-style pork, and not too salty (I feel like that's a fairly common problem with meat pupusas). Tons of great, melty cheese, too. Couldn't really taste the loroco in the loroco pupusa though, mostly just tasted like cheese, so if they were back in the future, I'd definitely go for two meat ones. More flavorful curtido than my favorite farmers market vendor, too (and I like their curtido a lot - Vchos' was even better, though.) Also loved that, for only a quarter more pupusa, you can also add jalapenos, which if you like peppers, I would solidly recommend. I also added a side of plantains for $1.50, which was the perfect amount to accompany the pupusas. Great plantains, too. So, overall, I'd say, while they could've been a little less dry, I *would* definitely pay $11 for that meal again ($9 for two pupusas + adding jalapenos to both + plantains) if I saw them at Trademark again.

Yelp
Came here for the famous pupusas. It is not an actual trucks this is a very cute courtyard with a few containers, and each containers are occupied by different food vendors. Vchos truck is one of the vendors. Ordered pork, bean, and cheese pupusas, and plantano plate. It took a while for us to get our food, but it is ok because it means that food was freshly made. Plantano was served with sweet creme and beans. It was freshly made and very tasty. The pupusas were a little disappointed as it has a lack of flavor and tasted very blended. Server was very friendly. I will just come back for plantano next time.

Yelp
My family and I have had Vchos plenty of times. The last two times that we've had them the food has been ok. The quality of the food has definitely gone down. The pupusas revueltas consisted of more beens and cheese than anything else. It was quite disappointing. I noticed that prices have gone up and for the price that we are paying I think that the consistency of product should stay the same. :( Also PLEASE provide your customers with sturdier utensils. The utensils are so flimsy you can't even cut through your food. Do better, I would love to keep supporting this business.

Yelp
Burnt greasy food and they made a hassle of remaking it. Wanted to like this truck but either I visited on an off day or it offers some of the worst papusas and tacos in LA. Asked us to return the uneaten food and then didn't replace it when I did

Yelp
Have been wanting to check out Blvd Market ever since they opened. Walked into an open courtyard with lots of tables and umbrellas; there are a few container restaurants. We decided to try a couple of places; I chose this one since I have not had pupusas since the 80s . I ordered the pork and beans, and shrimp, spinach & cheese; this one cost just a lil bit more for the shrimp. Also ordered the Salvatoran chicken empanadas. Firstly I don't remember how big pupusas are and probably vary in size from place to place; but I feel that size they served was generous along with a hefty scoop of pickled cabbage; it fed 3 of us. The pork and bean one was very tasty (no picture because we devoured it and I remembered after we ate it ). The picture I posted is of the shrimp one that we ordered; we ended up taking it home because we were full after eating the empanadas that were on steroids, huge, not typical size; this was very good also; not dried out because the crust shell was not thick like I've had from other places; it's thinner so you could really taste the filling inside; delicious. You get your money's worth. In addition to this food we also ordered a pizza to try, very good also. All this food fed 3 people; will be returning to try other items

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I love Salvadorean food. Especially pupusas. These pupusas were underwhelming to be honest. The curtido was so dry and didn't seem fresh at all. And for it being a little stand and not an actual restaurant the price did not match the food. It was underwhelming.
google avatar

Yelp
solid vegan options! my boyfriend and i shared 2 vegan black bean pupusas with a side of plantains. the portions were generous. the pupusas were not dry and crumbly, they were moist & salted to perfection. the salsa and curtido were fresh and only added to the meal. the plantains were maduros (soft & sweet) and would have been a 10/10 if there was a vegan dipping sauce. overall, highly recommend trying! parking was easy. the service was friendly. there were plenty of tables to enjoy our meal in the outdoor seating area. the noise level was perfect! my dog was able to hangout with us so that is a 5/5 in my book. :)

Yelp
I think I have found my go-to pupusa place! I ordered the ruvuelta pupusas. I loved how thin the outside was and the filling was so cheesy! I also ordered the steak fries and I could not stop munching on them! Even though I was full from the pupusas I kept going at it on the fries! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The steak was more like a braised steak than a grilled steak which was great! And the sauce on the fries gave it that extra little oomph! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Vchos is my absolute favorite pupusas restaurant in all of LA! I checked out their permanent location inside of Blvd Mrkt. I got the cheese and loroco and vegan revuelta pupusas. Both were fantastic!!! The masa on both of them had a nice crisp and were the perfect filling to masa ratio. The cheese and loroco had so much cheese - literal cheese pulls for days! The vegan revuelta tasted predominantly of beans with a hint of some sort of veggie. Not entirely sure but if I were to guess it would be carrots, bell peppers, and tomatoes. They come with repollo and a tomato sauce on the side. Love this place so much! Glad I could check out this location instead of hunting down their truck monthly! It's also situated inside of a marketplace with other food options, perfect for eating out with friends who all want something different!

Yelp
Good food, quick service , crispy but soft yucca ..can't beat it , thanks vchos!!!!!!
google avatar

Christina F.

Yelp
They're famous for pupusas, and I didn't even get them. Haha, I was seduced instead by the chicharron and fried yuca! So good and a huge portion. Shared among myself, a friend, and had leftovers to bring home for my parents to try too! Just needed a few shakes more of salt. But excellent crunch, juicy inside and the best chicharron I've ever had. First time trying yuca too, and I liked it. Pretty similar to a potato. I've have to come back and get a pupusa and the chicharron again!
google avatar

Yadira R.

Yelp
Tried it here yesterday and love that they offer vegan options. I lvoe pupusas and It's always hard to find a vegan option , major kudos for having thank you! I ordered both their vegan options and an order of plantains. It was tasty but nothing special. If I was hungry in the area I would come back but defined not worth going out of my way for, I felt something was off idk if it was the curtido, the sauce or maybe the dough because they were a bit soggy. Has good taste but overall not really authentic feeling compared to other Salvadorian restaurants I've been too. However amongst the options at the Blvd market I will say this is the best choice for food there :)
google avatar

Thomas P.

Yelp
The pupusas here are fine but a little greasier than other Pupusas I've eaten. We've been to the food truck twice while enjoying the Uptown Whittier Night Market. Both times the Pupusas were good, but on both occasions it took nearly 30 minutes to get our order. While I appreciate fresh food, there is some expediency expected with food trucks, and I don't know if they are understaffed or if I'm going too early, or what. Neither time we're they overly busy, and it still took quite a long time. I'd like to give them a 4th star for quality, but I don't think the quality outweighs the slow service.
google avatar

Courtney L.

Yelp
I stopped by the food truck in Eastvale and am so glad I did. I tried the bean/ cheese pupusa and plain cheese. The bean and cheese was my favorite. The plain cheese one had a ton of cheese ( borderline too much and I LOVE cheese). I might say the bean and cheese could have had more cheese, but it was still great. It came out crispy on the edges but not burnt. They were made to order so it took a little bit, but well worth the wait. The pupusas came out hot and delicious. I can't wait to go back. I wish the food truck came out close to me more often!!!
google avatar

Anthony Z.

Yelp
I went during lunch on a weekday so it was very chill. A lot of tables available and nice umbrella setup. The pupusas were delicious. I had the pork/beans and bean/cheese pupusa and regretted not getting the revuelta. Only means, I need to go back! I recommend this place.

Yelp
This place was so disappointing. I was enticed to try them out (went to the Covina food truck at noon) because of the vegan options. I ordered at the truck as well as on their online ordering system. It took 25 minutes to get guess in person order even though there was no one in line, that's fine. But I would expect the pupusas to at least be well cooked! None of them were, the masa was raw. As for the curtido, it was the worst I've ever had. Not only did it have no flavor, but it also tasted expired. When we tried brining this up to the workers, they said it has just been made that morning so it couldn't be expired. Which, it's curtido... It should be marinated for more than a morning but ok... Lastly, the customer service was no good. The ladies need to work on how they interact with customers. I asked for my online order when picking up my in person order and they said the online order hadn't come through on their system. I had ordered twenty minutes prior over my phone. I showed them the receipt which they analyzed and were trying to tell me I ordered from the wrong location before finally admitting everything was correct. I asked them how long for my order and they said that they couldn't make the order until it came through in their system. I thought this was absurd as I had already waited long enough and had showed them the receipt. Right as we were trying to settle this, the order came through in their system and only then did they start cooking. Really bummed about this place. The actual vegan revuelta mix inside was good but that is unfortunately not enough to make a delicious pupusa.

Yelp
We came here for the Dia de los Muertos festival since my father-in-law was showing one of his classic low riders at the car display. With a myriad of vendors and food trucks, it was hard not be taken in by the sights, sounds and smells. I have to tell you, I, personally, like pupusas. My wife, having tried 3 different restaurants, never really got into it. This go round, she didn't like it again. So, she resigned herself to not eating pupusas ever again. Pity. The rib eye steak fries were just okay. I know it was real steak, but to me, it had a Dinty Moore canned beef stew vibe. We didn't really care for it, but my father-in-law and his compadres ate it up. I'm sure the sheer fact that the truck was in the middle of a festival was the reason for the long wait time. But for us, it was just another food truck, albeit an expensive one (but what food truck isn't expensive nowadays???). It wasn't bad, but it really wasn't that good either...
google avatar

Ricardo M.

Yelp
Food was pretty great, had 2 pork and cheese pupusas and their loaded steak fries. I ate here at the Blvd market in montebello. Really clean space and DJ playing music. Great vibes.
google avatar

Sammy M.

Yelp
My two stars are based on the food and the service. On the truck, they had pictures of certain "gourmet " foods. Their gourmet shrimp/ potato taco look enticing. Sadly to say the taco looked like a fried empanada filled with lots of mashed potatoes, and two sadly pieces of shrimp. Nothing like the picture! $13 for two "gourmet"tacos! The service, two workers inside the truck, and people were waiting and waiting.. besides the people waiting to order.
google avatar

Yelp
Pupusa time! In a word - delicious. 2 pupusas to an order Fairly large Ample filling Cabbage and sauce on the side so it doesn't get soggy.

Yelp
Vchos was a wonderful surprise... 1- so the atmosphere is very open space outdoors. Think of it as an open area where instead of food trucks they have shipping containers that are made to be kitchens to serve food. There is a wonderful variety of food and honestly I really dug the atmosphere. I think there's a brewery too within the area and across the street. Also everyone was adhering to covet safety precautions and wearing their masks until they sat down and began to eat and enjoy their meals and drinks. 2- The service was very quick and the food came out hot and ready. I read one of the reviews that talked about how when they were busy some orders were getting mixed up. I honestly can understand why specifically because the food is terrific. I can only assume that they've done their best to do better by their customers after that review especially since every order they had within this time frame was concise and I'm pretty sure the only reason why you would get your order after someone else's is based upon what you ordered. Some of the food takes a little longer to make. But I just want to say thank you to the team on the counter you guys rocked it. 3- The food was absolutely delicious... I was immensely surprised by the yucca and chicharrone... Especially with the salsa and the pickled cabbage it really tight everything together and topping it off with some lime... AMAZING. I've actually never had deep fried yuca before and honestly it's a little bit more healthy ever replacement than french fries. The chicharon was cooked to perfection crispy and just delicious. Now that Papusas we're delicious... The spinach and cheese one amazingly surprised me... I would honestly suggest adding some jalapenos in there to get some spice as a variation of this pupusa. Overall I will definitely be back and I would love to try out some of the different foods here as well. I didn't finish the yucca and chicharron but I ended up cutting it up The next morning and mixing it in with some eggs , spinach, mushroom and cheese and made A breakfast burrito out of it. It was amazing lol. Keep it up Vchos!!!

Yelp
Vchos opened a little stand in a new food court in Montebello which looked pretty modern. We got a couple of pupusas which were reasonably priced as well including a cheese with loroco and vegan revuelta. Pupusas were a good size with a good amount of curtido. All the flavors were on point and the cashier was also friendly. I'd definitely go back to this spot and I love that there are vegetarian and vegan options.

Yelp
I recently found this place and decided to stop by and give it a try. It's a new to Montebello and located off of Whittier Blvd. It's nice to see some new and modern places come to the City of Montebello. There are a few other places there and they have a nice outdoor patio with plenty of tables for you to enjoy your pupusas. I parked on Whittier blvd. There was plenty of parking there. There is additional parking in the area. I ordered two bean and cheese pupusas and an order of yucca with chicharron (hope I spelled that right). The pupusas were delicious. They were big and filled with plenty of beans and cheese. Full of flavor, especially after you put the sauce on it. I was only able to eat one. Saving the second one for later. The yucca and chicharron are cooked perfectly and perfectly seasoned. The chicharron was cooked to perfection! It was juicy and just full of delicious flavors. The yucca was also cooked to perfection! Both were fried and oh so good! Their portions are generous and prices a reasonable. Their service was fabulous! They took my order right away and they gave me a device that would let me know when my order was ready. Excellent Customer Service! Can't wait to go back and try more pupusas!

Yelp
They did not tell me of the long wait until after I ordered the food and they initially said 20 minutes, but it was 45 minutes. And, the lady dared to tell me that she kept on calling my name when I knocked on the window for after checking for more than 4 times if it was ready. I did not hear her call my name. The chicken spinach cheese pupusa does not have any chicken I can taste and the bean and cheese pupusa did not have that many beans. I do not recommend it as the service was horrible with long waits and rude people, and the food is not too great for the time they make you wait. I would not order from them again.

Yelp
I came on Tuesday at 2 pm, and the Vegan Pupusas were not available. They had not done the mix yet, so I left, and I came Friday at 2pm again for Vegan pupusas and the Yuca is not cooked well the lady said it was to hatd....the only thing I have to say if you have a small business and can't be ready, why have a business. Don't get me wrong, I like the pupusas my daughter is vegan, it's hard enough to find Vegan restaurants..... but you must be ready. Yes, I will continue to come

Yelp
The atmosphere is beautiful very welcoming, and it smell delicious, aesthetically the food looks yummy, it's a good size pupusas thick as well, unfortunately that's where the good stops. The taste is very just okay at best, they give you so little curtido, and so little sauce especially for the price it's just not worth it. But give it a try and decide for yourself like I said the atmosphere is pretty cool. Buen provecho

Yelp
Came here for a late night snack with tomo and ordered a vegan pupusa with black beans. They were super fresh, hot and had a good amount of filling; perfect. I loved the red salsa, a bit spicy. Beyond bomb.

Yelp
The food was, made from scratch and you can taste the quality. The staff were friendly but didn't speak as much English. They had a standup comedy session going on at the venue during the time I was there ordering. There were a ton of people ordering food and listening to the stand up while having some beers from the brewery. Since it was Valentine's Day there was a pretty big crowd. I got the pupusas, and it was good but I would definitely want to try some of the other items on the menu. When other people were getting their food some of the items looked pretty good. I'll be back to explore the menu and maybe do a standup bit ;)

Yelp
The pupusas here are exceptional, boasting robust flavor profiles and generously filled.

Yelp
Aside from a place in downtown LA, this is by far the most delicious pupusa ever! The sliders are must as well. I love that they drive to our Community Center in Eastvale almost weekly!

Yelp
The Vchos truck was in the Eastvale area so my mom and I decided to give it a try as we were craving some pupusas. We ordered online as we heard the wait could get pretty long as it gets closer to dinnertime. The online ordering process was quick and easy and our food was ready by the time we got to the truck, still piping hot and giving off mouth-watering smells. We got the pork/bean/cheese pupusas (with sides of the plantains and casamientos [pinto beans and rice]), chicken pastelitos, and Yuca con Chicharrón (fried pork belly). Pupusas - These were SO GOOD. Unctuous, cheesy, beany, meaty perfection. The flavors were frfr dancing on my tongue. When things got a bit rich, the pickled cabbage (slaw?) was the perfect addition to each bite. The acidity from the cabbage perfectly balanced out the richness from the pupusas. The cabbage had a great oregano taste (if that's your thing) and it added a hint of herby freshness that was a great contrast to the pupusas. The casamiento was nothing too significant - just beans and rice, but beans and rice aren't usually my thing. The fried plantains were a great conclusion to the whole experience - Not too hard, not too soft, naturally sweet and a great palate cleanser. The pupusas (alongside the pastelitos) were the only things not overly salted that we ordered. Chicken Pastelitos - These were meh for me. Nothing too noteworthy to report. Reminiscent of empanadas... Pairs great with the cabbage and sauce on the side which bring flavor to the white chicken meat. Yuca con Chicharrón - Now THESE babies... This is where it's at!! I had never had fried yuca before, but these were bussin bussin for sure. If you try ANYTHING from the Vchos Truck, please I beg you to get these. The yuca had a perfect crispy outside that was light and not greasy; once you bite into the yuca, you get a nice potatoey but chewy (it gives very slight mochi texture) texture. SO SO good with the side sauce and minced pickled cabbage that is different from that served with the pupusas or pastelitos. The chicharrónes were crispy, juicy, yet not greasy, and amazing much like their companion. Fried to golden deliciousness, it doesn't get much better than this! TLDR; everything was amazing, but the Yuca con Chicharrón was a tad bit too salty. I am someone who never strays away from salt, but even for myself it was a bit much. It's not like there isn't a fix to this, though, as it makes the assortment a great pairing with an ice-cold beer ;)

Yelp
I went to the truck parked by Covina High School in Covina. I've heard of the vegan popusas and wanted to try them. I was expecting the vegan cheese to be more cheesy, like Daiya, but the cashew cheese blends inside the popusa with the other ingredients. I got the vegan revueltas, which have beans, cashew cheese, and vegan soy pork, and I got my dad the non-vegan revueltas popusas. They came with the typical popusas red sauce and curtido (cabbage). My dad said his tasted decent. I thought my vegan ones also tasted pretty good. The lady who took my order was nice and friendly. Since it's a food truck, one pretty much orders their food to go or to eat in their car, which is fine if that is what is expected. Overall, although the popusas weren't what I was thinking initially, I still thought they were good and in general, I'm happy with the fact that there are local vegan popusas available for me since I've always enjoyed them, but since becoming vegan, I have not had any so I'm glad when certain food I once's enjoyed, can still be enjoyed without animal-derived ingredients!

Yelp
Came with family and had been craving pupusas for a couple weeks already! This place did not disappoint!! The spinach and cheese are a must try! I think it was a favorite for most of us who went. The location is part of the BLVD food plaza/public market, and besides the amazing food, the courtyard is super cute and they play great music! Will definitely try again!

Yelp
The pupusas are a 10/10. The vegan (bean) ones are a little dry but that's expected... it's just beans. Their pan con pollo though... amazing!! Especially that little cup of "jugito"!! Not a big fan of the beet salad or the tomatoes so I ask for them on the side. Parking available across the street.

Yelp
First time visiting Blvd Mrkt and I went straight for the pupusas sign!! The all-female staff were very friendly and kind, plus the pupusas tasted delicious and fresh! I will definitely remember the customer service and food, much love to Vchos!

Yelp
I came here on 6/28, I was craving something sweet and was looking forward to the platanos that seem so popular. But instead of fried platanos I got a box full of rotten mushy oily bananas. They were so mushy they wouldn't even hold on the fork. I went back to the cashier to let her know what she's serving is inedible and her response was " it's not my fault that's how they bring the bananas " . Platanos are very easy to get right when you're not using ROTTEN bananas. It's such a shame they would knowingly serve people this .

Yelp
Visited the BLVD MRKT and decided to try Vchos. I ordered pupusas and a chicken empanada and the food did not disappoint. The food was freshly made and tasted great! I will say that I've had better tasting curtido though. The lady at the window was nice and helpful. Prices are reasonable. I did order my food to-go, but there's patio sitting. There's street parking available and also a small parking lot.
