15 Best Bars in Copenhagen

"Given Copenhagen’s proliferation of exquisite cocktail joints and the Mikkeller-fueled craft-beer craze, it’s hard for a wine bar to stand out in the city. But Ved Stranden 10, with its charming by-the-canal location, does exactly that. There’s no menu here—rather, just an ever-changing roster of wines from mostly small producers. In summer, you might find salvation on the terrace with an Austrian rosé by winemaker Christian Tschida; in winter, you'll keep warm with a Piedmontese red from Roagna. Swing by on Wednesday evenings for one of the weekly tastings." - Alia Akkam

Ved Stranden 10 | Bon Appétit

"GO HERE: to drink excellent natural wine in the most stylish wine bar in Scandinavia, if not the world. But in summer everyone’s drinking by the canal. It’s heaven. ORDER THE: wines you’ve never heard of. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure kind of place. The knowledgeable team will help you find that perfect glass (or bottle) to pair with your charcuterie and croque monsieur. New to natural wine? The Wednesday tastings are a good place to start. And on Mondays a different visiting chef will fill the big copper pot with something delicious. Help yourself until it runs out. THE VIBE IS: scruffy (but studied) chic. The corner canalside spot still feels like the centuries-old storefront it once was, but stroll back and you’ll find midcentury furniture from Jean Prouvé. Off-duty and visiting chefs and wine nerds mix with design-driven locals. PRACTICAL STUFF: Open Monday to Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. Closed Sunday. —Christine Muhlke" - Condé Nast

Yelp
This is a pretty cool little concept. It's a wine bar that spills out to the canal where you can find a seat almost anywhere. Watch the boats go by and watch people for as long as you want. The wine is so-so, but hey--it's a beautiful day! Find a little bench and booze it up a little bit.

Yelp
Knowledgeable Som turned us on to some outstanding Austrian Dry Rieslings -- seems to be the dry white wine of preference in CPH. Plenty of seating in a nice old house on the canal. We were looking for a light dinner, so we had their cheese board with some fresh bread and olives, quite nice.

Yelp
TL/DR: Our favorite wine bar/lounge in CPH. The interior is cozy - hyggelig, if you will - like a living room with a variety of tables and chairs. The Danes casually pull off this kind of look; if I attempted it, the style would best be termed "Nouveau Frathouse." No menu. Your (probably charming) server will ask what you have a taste for and will make a recommendation. Ved Stranden 10 seems to specialize in sustainable/minimally invasive wines, many of which we'd never get to try back in the States, which is what we were after. On our second visit (in four days), we enjoyed very fresh bread and burrata. If you have any interest in wine, get here.

Yelp
This was my first meal in Copenhagen and it was the perfect introduction to the city. I had meant to come for their Monday night staff meal, but did not make it in time as they had run out. No problem though, I was thoroughly satisfied by their Croque Monsieur as well as their minimally invasive wines. The atmosphere is comfortable and cozy. So much so, that I felt like I was at a friend's house. Billy, my server, was absolutely fantastic and definitely added to this memorable experience. I would love to have returned here before heading out of town, but instead I will be keen to make coming back here a top priority on a future trip. I highly recommend!

Yelp
What a cool wine place and I don't understand why I haven't found out this one earlier. It is just in front of one of the channels in the center and if the sun is shining you can take you wine out to the sun. However I think you would miss half the charm of the interior, but a good glass of wine is always good! The interior is very hip and has different types of tables for various group sizes. A lot of wooden materials used and bottles are used for decoration. I saw some people apart from the delicious wine, they also got some snacks like Parma ham. This is a great idea for an after work wine and bite. The people working there were funny and professional and gave us always a taste of the wine before buying it. Loved it!

Yelp
This was an appealing place to stop after a long walk. It is right next to the canal they have outdoor seating and they have indoor seating with the windows open so the breeze flows through. Everyone elected to sit outside because the weather was beautiful. I was a little bit warm so I decided to sit inside out of the sun. It was plenty breezy with the window and door open. I had fun because I got to observe the employees having fun and the customers coming and going. It is a very diverse crowd and people come in to buy the wine by the bottle or by the glass. I had two different glasses of red wine. And a lovely small cheese board with rustic crusty bread. That was my favorite part. The glasses are large & lovely (fine dainty glass)and wine type appropriate. It was casual but classy. The young employees are a cultural mix. Very fun to watch especially as they make their evening plans together. I can only imagine how wild there evenings are! I can feel my hangovers from the past just thinking about it! It was quiet because everyone is still on holiday. So they were enjoying the downtime. My bill was $50 US. I thought that a little steep. I skipped dinner. I wasn't terribly disappointed in the price. I kind of expected it. It is a very touristy area. Still I was hopeful I was wrong.

Yelp
We had read about Ved Stranden, award winning wine bar serving fantastic food. So we put it on our list to visit during the day on our wedding anniversary before getting our flight home. We were not left disappointed. They were just opening the doors when we arrived. The weather was horrific outside which made the atmosphere inside all the better. Ved Stranden is like being in your own living room....one with designer furniture, lampshades and highbrow literature that is. You are instantly at ease and comfortable. More of a Wine lounge than a wine bar. We asked if we could see a menu....there wasn't one. Instead they asked what kind of wine we like and said they'd bring us something appropriate over. When we asked fo a food menu....there wasnt one...instead they said they had a soup on or they could rustle up a croque monsieur....which is what we'd come for....so we chose that. I'm all for the laid back feel of having no idea what to order, but in an expensive city like Copenhagen, we could have been in trouble. Instead we played guess the bill....with our fingers crossed that it wouldn't be any more. The croque monsiuer is indeed the best i have ever eaten and the wine they chose for us was perfect. The bill approximately £40 between us. Not cheap, but bloody lovely.

Yelp
Location, location... good wine! One of the things I learned on my last visit to Italy is that wine is a better conversation lubricant than coffee. Vinotecas stay open throughout the day... a pleasant haven for tired feet and dry mouths. In Copenhagen, right in the middle of it all you have Vin Stranden. Great selection of wines including many natural ones, knowledgeable staff, tons of books on wine and food to flip through Somehow the good folks at Ved Stranden 10 make you feel at home right away. There is lots of comfortable sitting room and you can even chill by one of the tables right along the canal. This wine seems to be a popular after work option for the many government offices around this area, so friday night it quickly becomes a sardine can.

Yelp
I went to Ved Stranden 10 recently with two friends who enjoy fine wines. Upon finding a place to sit, we were greeted by a waiter, who told us that he was the menu, and that we could ask him anything regarding the wine selections. We gave him an idea of what we were interested in, came back within a few minutes to offer us a taste, proceeded to then tell us the price of the bottle which ended up being around what we were expecting to pay, and were set. Perhaps it would have been nice to have been asked a price range before bringing over a bottle, but oh well - worse has happened. The wine bar was very nicely decorated and in a very central location near Højbro Plads and Gammel Strand. In regards to wine bars in Copenhagen, it's either the best or in the top 3. It's definitely worth giving a try.

Yelp
You guys, there's a reason Ved Stranden 10 regularly is listed as AOK's best winebar in Copenhagen. In the winter the inside is hygge'd to the max with danish design, delish tapas, and cosy corners to hang out in. A pretty great place to sip on some fermented grapes and whet your appetite. BUT. In the summer this place is off the charts. You automatically get the immediate expansion of hygge possibilities by the well-situated location next to the canal, with a view of Børsen and the parliament and all the tourists coming through on their canal cruises, which means you are a model of "how the Danes do" (don't forget to wave!). If you sweet talk the owner, he'll let you pay retail price for your bottle, and give you glasses, and you can go sit on one of the docks along the canal. Just promise to not cause problems with the canal cruise guys as they are a little territorial. Otherwise take a seat and get full service at one of their many outdoor tables, and hang outside watching the sun set on a warm June night.

Yelp
I stumbled across this place with a recommendation from another wine bar in the city (Since they know the best places of course.) It was so hyggelig! We grabbed two chairs outside, and had a great waiter come up named Morris who explained they don't have a wine card, so we just need to say what we like, and he picks it out for us. I was also hungry and wanted some tapas to nibble on. Event though they were out of bread, he went into the kitchen, and figured something out and whipped up a little impromptu plate with rødbrød. It was so delicious! The view over the water is wonderful and perfect on a summer evening. At the end we moved inside while they cleaned up, and it was super cozy inside as well. It was like stepping into someone's very design oriented house with empty wine bottles everywhere. I found out their collection is around 1300 different kinds of wine, and their cellar has around 7,000 bottles. If you are a wino like me, this is the place. The staff is friendly and accessible, the food is high quality, and the service is great. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
What a great experience. Exploring Copenhagen by foot for hours we stumbled upon this establishment as it was opening. The owner, Christian, was very friendly, informative and most importantly, passionate about wine. As luck would have it, every Monday a guest chef prepares a family style meal. After a couple of glasses we moved to the bar for dinner and had the pleasure of conversation with Christian. He even introduced us to our first natural wine. It was a pleasure to observe the rapport between him and his employees and to also see the great relationship between the employees and the locals that make this a Monday night ritual. It was really hard to leave as early as we did but we had a flight to catch in the morning. This is a great wine bar. It looks great but any wine bar can look great. The bottom line always depends on the people who work there. If you find someone with a passion for what they do, your experience will be something to be remembered. This is one of those rare places that has that most essential of ingredients-passion

Yelp
This place is a MUST for both residents of CPH and tourists who are visiting. Even if you don't specifically have an interest in wine, let the staff bring you into the sometimes difficult to penetrate culture of the fermented grape. Visiting on a Monday night there is an option for the 'Monday Meal' which is lovingly prepared from a rotating roster of chefs, resident and visiting, for the grateful visitors, we unfortunately did not partake in this on this visit! (this specific Monday was boeuf bourguignon..YUM). The staff were able to bring us a choice of two wines based on how we were feeling that evening, and they hit the choice right on the spot. Ended up going for a delightfully complex South-Eastern French number which absolutely satisfied all parties involved. Would love to bring more people here, and will be very likely to recommend the place in the future. Nice intimate vibe, where the setup is almost like a lounge room, giving the place a familiar and comforting vibe where you could easily spend hours relaxing and socialising with old friends, or making new ones. If I were to be compiling a list of must-dos in Copenhagen it would look something like this...1. Get a Bike 2. Ride to the centre of town 3. Go to Ved Stranden 10. No, but seriously, this place is delicious.

Yelp
Had some great macerated wine and snacks here then went next door for dinner. Bar man (from England) was great.

Yelp
Very cute wine bar with lots of life. I came here on a Friday night and it was packed. It was a lovely atmosphere though, very relaxed and happy crowd even though we were packed in there. The only thing that was a bit fishy was the fact that you can't order off a menu. You simply tell the bartender what you want and they choose something for you. The wine was decent but I think I till prefer a menu of choices. Otherwise the staff and service were great!
