Veda Yoga - Venice

The studio is in a convenient location in Culver City. Its got a 90s ashtanga power yoga vibe. I was greeted by a friendly woman who explained the studio to me. The building is quite dated and the bathroom is awkwardly outside and there is no shower even though they heat the classes but the space is comfortable and clean. The floors are made of a bouncy rubber material in the studio which felt nice underneath my mat as an added layer. The reason for only 3 stars is because the class is the one hour class began with a Shruti box and chanting followed rapidly by a power flow which included bird of paradise and side crow, then somewhere in the middle some random abs accompanied by a loud bass song then a couple of floor hip stretches and boom shavasana and OMs. This was all instructed while a woman to my left had her phone set up at the front of her mat and was recording herself. I feel like Pattabhi Jois is rolling over in his grave. The teachers cues were well timed and organized and she handled the phone filming in class like a champ when I pointed it out but still, sigh, yoga has become so confused. Am I doing Kirtan? Am I doing an ab workout? Am I doing a power flow with peak poses with very little warm up? Am I meditating and sounding Om? Am I going to be on someones Instagram post later? Whew.

This yoga studio is such a gem!! The ambiance is calming, and the heat is at the perfect temp. Not too intense, just right for a great sweat and deeper stretch. I’ve really enjoyed Emily’s Sculpt class and Esli’s Level 1 class—they both bring such great energy and make every session feel fun and empowering. I even brought my mom (a first-timer) to a class with Jillian, and she was so kind, welcoming, and supportive. It made the experience really special. The schedule is also SUPER convenient, with both early morning and late-night classes that fit easily into my day. There’s always something to match my mood—whether I want to sweat, slow down, or reset. This studio has slowly become a regular part of my wellness routine!

The studio was nice, and Jill was an excellent instructor. She and the other staff members were very kind and welcoming. I would love to keep coming to this studio if the parking were more convenient. The location itself is also great.

I love this studio! The community, teachers and classes are truly life changing. Kumi (the studio owner) has created an incredible space for all levels of yogis! Very inclusive, amazing seminars, offering dynamic classes, not to mention the immersion and teacher training programs - literally this place has it all. Highly recommended for beginners looking to learn more about yoga to the more advanced yogi, looking to deepen your practice. Trust me, come take a class. You too will find home.

I freaking love this place - seriously, Kumi has created THE BEST YOGA STUDIO OUT THERE (and there are a LOT in Los Angeles). I am SO HAPPY they survived Covid and are still here!!!!! The Veda community is inviting and inclusive, totally not pretentious and welcoming to all levels of yoga practice. Plus the teachers are all friendly and helpful - and they even manage to work in the spirituality and ancient wisdom of yoga so gracefully along with your practice! A total Gem of a place. Best best best yoga studio I've ever been to - I just moved here and its helped me find my community and center myself during major life changes. So grateful for the team (Jill is amazing beyond words) and it's made me want to practice everyday!

I love my Veda yoga studio. Hot yoga but not too hot, great friendly community. Diversity of classes all hours of the day. Some specialty classes like handstand classes on Wednesday and free Wisdom Wednesday class. 🧘‍♂️ amazing teachers that see everyone ❣️.

It's a yoga studio located in downtown Culver City, and they don't have parking facility, so either find street parking or go to nearby public packing garages. There are two rooms for yoga classes, the bigger room has hard wood floor, and the smaller room is quipped with soft ground mat.

Awesome Yoga center! I took my first acro yoga class this week. I was intimated at first but everyone was very welcoming and helpful. I really enjoyed being surrounded by the people. Will def be back for more classes! There are two tandem spots behind the building labeled Veda Yoga parking. Otherwise, try street parking!

This Yoga Studio changed my life. I came here after having a lot of time off of working out since 2020 when all the gyms were closed. I was intimidated and had never really done yoga and Kumi was so encouraging and told me to try four classes because she said my body would start to open up and that was it! I now go there 6 days a week and I LOVE it! I asked if it would help me to get toned and Kimi told me yes, especially if you do the sculpt classes. My body (and mind and spirit) has completely transformed and I am the strongest and fittest I have ever been at 43 but more importantly I have this amazing community that feels like home.

I have been trying to reach them for 2 weeks via phone and email. I never receive any reply. I guess they don't want new business..

I had a chance to try out the Veda yoga and had an amazing experience. The teacher is super nice, and the facility is clean and well decorated. There are assistant teacher to help with adjustments and alignment, which I find very beneficial. The room is heated, but not too hot. It is perfect for the muscle to relax and enhance the stretch. Overall, a great class and will definitely be back for more

Went here for a morning 1030am infrared yoga sculpt through ClassPass! Enjoyed the class a lot and think it was a good balance of weight sculpting, but still had some essence of yoga flow in it. Not sure if I was very sweaty from the infrared or if I got a great workout in , but the instructor was wonderful and very fit. They also dressed up their studio in winter/Christmas theme, which is nice. tip#1: They have 2 tandem parking in the back, so if you're one of the first few people in class, you can park there! Tip#2: You can do a 2 week new client special for $48 for 2 weeks, which is a super good deal if you end up going more than 2x each week. They give you your first mat rental free for new students, which is nice!

No parking anywhere nearby on a Tuesday night. If you live in a walking distance it might work for you.

I've tried this yoga spot through class pass and after been in so many different yoga places in West LA I got obsessed with Veda, the heat is not too much and it's actually delightful unlike places like hot 8 yoga (I was member for 3 years) that is just too much, also it's humble, simple and teachers are cool!

Tracey is an amazing instructor. She works with you to find your comfort level while still pushing you to stretch and connect to the exercises, listening to your needs. I'm not able to attend very often, but whenever I do, it's a joy!

I might be biased because Jill is one of my favorite yoga teachers of all time and she teaches here, but I genuinely believe the space is built perfectly for yogis. The staff is really kind and has a genuine spiritual vibe that I find is missing and a lot of the more contemporary yoga studios in Los Angeles. Trust me, this does not mean the classes are easy! Unless, of course, you want them to be. The class sizes are big enough to feel a sense of community and small enough to feel a sense of connection with your instructor. The space has a nice outdoor area as well as two beautiful indoor studios. I've never seen it anything but spotless and I know that the staff puts their blood sweat and tears into making this place wonderful and safe for everyone. This is a great place to go for any kind of yoga but if you're looking for a place where people are sensitive, trauma informed, masters at their craft, and genuinely kind and caring people, make this place your yoga home.

My friend Sandy has been raving about Veda yoga and I was finally able to join her today for the Sculpt class at 5:30 p.m., led by Kumi. The class is a total body workout that combines yoga, weights, and ab work to a super-awesome powerhouse playlist. Kumi is a great instructor and engages participants to reach their best potential. The studio is a gem of a space, a sanctuary, nestled adjacent to downtown Culver City. There was a farmer's market (Tuesday), just across the street, and dozens of restaurants and coffee shops to grab a bite/refreshment after the intense workout. Veda has a natural community vibe and I can't wait to visit again with my newly minted 2week-Unlimited pass ($48).

I'm a movement instructor, mainly focused on dance. Anyway.. moving to Venice there's a lot of options for yoga. I am currently post partum.. went through all that emotional waves.. sleepless nights... adjustments.. back hurts and I didn't move my body much during pregnancy just walked everyday. I now have intense back Pain :'( so I was testing different ways to heal. I tried out different places for yoga since there are so many in this area. I have a background in kundalini but I knew I needed more strength training to get my strength back.. as a dancer I not so much into intense weight lifting.. I resonate more with movement and flow. I took advantage of their intro offer.. I went a few times early AM like 6:30 excellent classes! I enjoyed it very much.. then started coming to Johanna's class. I'm not sure if she is a dancer but I feel dancers tend to have ways of teaching I resonate with.. I feel her flow, guidance and method really motivating and authentic. So I've been coming here for a few weeks now. I absolutely love the Infared heat. Space is nice warm and welcoming. It gives that home-y feels. It has helped with my "at times roller coaster post partum emotions" lol and ofcourse I feel the difference in the improvement of my back pain. I still have a long way to go for healing and aim to be pain free. But coming here helps me emotionally, physically and mentally. Also making me strong to carry my infant. I highly recommend this studio and Johanna, I am sure all the teachers here are great, juggling with a new baby / time schedule I have only experienced two.

I know it's hard to believe in this day and age -- but I had never done yoga in my life. Because of chronic health conditions, I've always struggled with my weight/abilities and I never felt like I fit the body type of a yogi. I finally decided to give it a try and I'm so thankful that Tracy was the first instructor I ever had. She is so kind, so gentle, and so compassionate. I was pleasantly surprised to be joined by people of so many walks of life in the class and she made it a point to gently provide alternatives for those who need it. She has been encouraging every time I've been back, and I feel safe in her class -- even at the limits of my physical abilities. I've had the same experiences with all the other instructors too, especially Akane's Yin Yang. Excited to get my gold member pass :)

Outstanding yoga studio! Offers a variety of classes for whatever you're looking for and whatever level you're at. I've gone to many chain studios around LA and this is a special experience that is welcoming and genuine with a depth of knowledge. I've taken a variety of classes so far and must say Jillian is a fantastic instructor. She is personable and knows her stuff!

The phenomenal and charismatic yoga teachers here are what keep me inspired and motivated to keep coming back. The sense of community here is so supportive and the positivity energy is contagious. Growing more strong and balanced together with others has been a game changer for me in this post pandemic environment. I am so grateful for this place. They offer free community classes, easy, medium and hard level classes along with a variety of self care options like Thai massage, sound baths, restorative, slow flow, yin-yang and even sober support classes along with group studies and community Kirtan!) So much love here.

An amazing yoga studio with amazing community of people!!! The temperature is just right, not too hot and unlike the typical corporate yoga studios this place has a at home feeling to it with a little more of the ancient philosophy of yoga practiced and incorporated into the classes. The owner kumi is a beacon of love and light! Grateful for this community

Let me start by saying, I've lived in LA a looooong time & have been to many studios. Veda Yoga is, by far, my favorite. Everyone is very kind, literally from the moment you walk in, ALL of the teachers are amazing in different ways, it's always clean, and there's just an overall beautiful vibe. I also really appreciate that no one is ever trying to upsell anything, no pressure. I now attempt to make all my friends go too. Very grateful this place exists. :)

By far the best yoga studio in Los Angeles! After practicing at YogaWorks for years, I found this studio and would never go anywhere else.The founder Kumi is a true yogi in the Bhakti tradition and a community builder. If you want to break a sweat and find the bliss of yoga, as well as meet likeminded yogis, this is the place to go!

What a real community. I've loved seeing how well students know each other and foster deeper connection and friendships. Also, if you're looking for deeper yogic practice, spiritually, Veda is the place for it in Culver City. As a yoga teacher, I am glad to see that the meditation practices as well as asana, are prioritized. And the inclusivity is so refreshing. All are clearly welcome here!

Best atmosphere, best teachers and they do amazing workshops on mantra meditation and Bhagavad Gita. They also host the Mantra House on Thursdays which has been amazing to attend! Love Veda!

Awesome neighborhood yoga studio with a focus on community. I practice regularly and found this studio to be fun yet challenging. Love the variety of classes offered and highly recommend!

Jill was wonderful! I even brought my dad, who does not have yoga experience and Jill made sure he felt comfortable and was supported the whole way through! He said it was the best "massage for the mind" he's ever experienced. I loved this place!

This is what building a [yoga] community should look like. Wonderful classes, instructors and a lovely atmosphere. I had a warmed welcome as a beginner. The Slow Flow, and Yin/Yang classes fit perfectly. Wonderful start, I'll definitely continue.

So, I am on the fence between 1 and 2 stars ( which fell from 3-4 when I was a member). Honestly, I really want to like this school. There are things to like. However, I am burned out trying to deal with this school. As far as the classes, let's be frank - it is another Power Yoga center in L.A. The actual classes feels a lot like gym yoga on weirdly squishy mats. If you want a lot of knee to nose and a place that calls Urdva Hastasana mountain pose who teaches a number of poses that are less than 10 years old, then go ahead, but it will cost you $100 or more a month and you can't cancel. It does feel more like a Yoga studio than say, YogaWorks... and there is a good intention to be traditional there. Kumi (the owner) is very nice and also well intended. She is great to deal with one on one in the moment, has a love for California Yoga and does seem to have a Bhakti intent. The big issue is she never follows up on her promises and is a bit flighty. After stopping my membership when they kept cancelling classes ( sometimes with little to no notice) Kumi said she would follow up to my email and offer me some class passes, not only did she not follow up, the school keeps trying to hit my credit card. I have sent numerous emails, texts and calls, and they have yet to cancel my membership. I closed out that card, but I still get a monthly nagging emails from them to update my card and attempts to charge me on the old number which mt bank lets me know about each time. That being said, the teachers are very friendly and well trained in what seems to be Kumi's version of Power Yoga and they do have some actual Bhakti Yogis come in regularly as guest speakers, and also Kirtan devotional nights. They are also close to the Krshna center which gives them an air of credibility, but the depth of Yogic understanding is not much deeper than most of L.A., most of what I heard was more in the realm of New Age and not the Vedas, Upanisads or Gita as one might hope in a place so close to two wonderful Hindu temples. Caveat Emptor: If you are happy with modern american Yoga and want a spoonful of extra traditional influence, than this might be the place for you - but I am not the only person who has had issue when cancelling.

The warmest welcome I could of had. Place was so easy going, everyone respected each other. Class was amazing and challenging and they give you alternative movements to do to get the same effect. A lot of people in the class the energy was inspirational it felt really good to be the first class I have ever taken here and I felt like I have been going there for years.

This yoga studio is so popular! I'm used to going to classes with maybe a dozen people at most, but both of the classes I've attended here have been full with probably 25 people packed into the studio and each mat just inches apart. Before trying out Veda I would have thought that it wasn't possible to do a studio with mats so close together, but it definitely works...and I can see why so many people come here -- the instruction is excellent! I've taken two classes with Taylor who is just a yoga rock star. He will correct your poses as needed (for the beginners or intermediates) and also offer up deeper stretches and poses (for the more advanced yogis). If you are a beginner-ish you can definitely take the Yoga 1 and 2 classes, as there isn't much difference and you can just modify intensities. I say beginner-ish because they don't offer a ton of explanation on how to do the poses and expect you to know them as they flow through the class (I can recommend another studio nearby that has more of a teaching style for those who are true newbies). They also offer acro-yoga -- the only studio in the area it seems that offers this -- but I'm not sure if you have to do private lessons first to get the hang of it before going to a class. I love how you get a free bottle of Icelandic water every time you check in on Yelp or Facebook. I certainly need and appreciate that water after an hour-long sweaty class! Yes, the yoga classes get very sweaty as they turn up the temperature a bit in the vinyasa-style classes although it's not at Bikram heat. You have to bring your own mat, but you can rent them for $1 if you forget yours and for your first class it is provided complimentary. They lock the front door after classes have started, which is good because you leave your shoes, purses, etc at the front in cubbies and otherwise people could come in and steal your stuff! There is absolutely no parking, but you can hunt for street parking and it is a short walk from the Culver City metro station which has a large free parking lot.

Background: I took my first yoga class - Stiff Guy Yoga at the Equinox in Culver City - about 9 months ago and ended up liking it and moved on to a consistent vinyasa practice at the gym since then. I've wanted to venture out and see what yoga classes are like outside the gym setting, and that's how I ended up at Veda. I found a great deal for a month of classes, and the studio is not far from where I live, so I figured I'd give it a try. PROS: - A variety of classes/instructors for the size of the studio. I took Veda 1 & 2 classes with different instructors and liked all the classes. Kumi and Nora are particularly helpful with adjustments. - Signing up/checking in for a class. I still don't really understand how, but after signing up for a class via the app, I was already checked in once I showed up at the studio. That was very convenient. - Community vibe. Everyone that came to class seemed super friendly, and overall it felt like a judgment-free environment to practice, which is great for beginners. CONS: - Parking. There are parking options, but if you're trying to park in the spots behind the studio or on the street nearby, it might take a while to find a spot (if you find one at all). - Room temperature. I think they rely on fans for ventilation at the studio, which means it can get really warm inside during sunny days. I naturally sweat a lot during vinyasa classes and don't mind it at all, BUT I'm not too big on sweating during restorative classes. I took one restorative class at night here and the room was unbearably warm. It was to the point where I was doing a fold and was counting the seconds for the hold to end, which is not what you want to think about when you're in a pose. However, I don't think the other people in that class had this problem, so while I mention this as a con, it's not in reference to the studio per se but more towards anyone that might have the same preferences as me. Overall, I enjoyed my month at Veda, and the good news is that they're expanding, so I will definitely be back to try the classes in their new studio. If you're looking for a no frills place to start a yoga practice or just try out a yoga class, definitely check this place out.

I came across Veda Yoga Center via Groupon. It is located on the corner of Venice and Bagley. Parking: There are only 4 tandem parking spaces attached to the studio. There is also a print shop parking across the street but with limited hours. I've been practicing yoga on and off for about 7 years and have only taken two type of classes here - Veda Sculpt and Veda 2. Each class is offered an hour long. Class breakdown: Veda Sculpt: Reminds me of a VERY similar structure to a yoga sculpt class from a popular studio chain. Veda Sculpt is less structured and not as much high energy as its competitor. I wish the music here was more upbeat. Veda 2: A great vinyasa yoga flow class that is definitely not for beginners. I've only taken Sasha's class and really like it. I just wish it had more time to play. Overall, the vibe here is a community feel. The yogis here are very diverse. No pretentious attitudes here. Don't worry about coming here in the lastest Lululemon gear. Looking at their monthly packages, Veda Yoga offers the lowest price compared to all the other yoga studios in the area. -1 star for the outhouse bathroom and parking spaces. There have been times where classes have started late due to late comers and makes the class time even shorter. Tip: Yelp check-in for free bottled water

I'm new to yoga as it was one of my ~New Years~ resolutions to practice (touching my toes on a good day has probably been the extent of my flexibility. I really liked this studio because unlike so many studios in LA it's not pretentious and really focuses on just a pure Yoga practice without any of the sometimes unnecessary bells and whistles. Whether you're a beginner (like me) or a seasoned pro doing handstands in class (I see you and am intimidated by you) the classes are small and you really get attention from the instructor unlike other cookie cutter studios. Also really reasonably priced! If I lived closer to Culver I would definitely visit more often. Discovered this place on Class Pass!

I would love to love this place, but unfortunately this studio just doesn't want my money. I bought a 10 class yoga pack from their Groupon page but had trouble booking online, so Groupon tried contacting Veda Yoga to no response. I tried calling Veda Yoga, going to the yoga studio in person, texting them, and then emailing them. No response. I gave up after a month of trying to contact them. I have no idea how this business is even operating when there's literally no form of customer service.

Trying a new yoga studio can be intimidating, especially after not practicing for some time, but my first class at Veda I immediately felt comfortable and was warmly welcomed. I signed up for two classes with Kumi and Noel, both were wonderfully knowledgeable and I was very comfortable with the pace of the Veda Yoga I class. Really enjoyed my experience and can't wait to sign up for more classes! Kumi shared the space will be expanding, so more class offerings. Note free meter parking on Sunday!

I truly feel home at this studio. From the teachers to the space, my practice thrives when I'm there. The heated classes are just right, the personalities welcome me as I am l, different every time.

I've been wanting to try yoga for a long time. When I would visit Starbucks in Larchmont I'd see all the lovely ladies with their mats. All had awesome bodies. I need to get in shape and figured yoga might be fun. Well a lady friend said she was going to her yoga class. I asked if I could join her. She said sure. I was a bit nervous when I arrived. I think the owner checked me in and was also the instructor. I always thought yoga was sitting in lotus and chanting AHHMMM. Boy was I wrong. I was bending in directions I didn't know my body could do. I give all you yoga regulars a lot of credit. This is a good workout. I'm not from the area so I don't when I can return. I only hope if I go somewhere else they are as patient with a rookie as they are here. I need to lose my belly, and shape my tushie. Anyone looking for a place to take yoga I recommend this place.

The Veda Yoga Center is one of those places you can get a great workout, learn something, and connect with your spirit. The community is connected and uplifting, and the teachers are knowledgable and balanced. Marxell's class is upbeat and inspiring. If you seek to sweat and push yourself, this is an excellent choice. Johanna's class is ALWAYS perfect. She is a true Teacher in every sense of the word. Kumi, the owner, maintains a close connection to her students, business, and is involved. This place is the best. I am an on again/ off again yogi, but every time I am on, I come here. Kumi, the owner, is one of a kind amazing. An incredibly warm person that always makes you feel welcome at the studio. They recently expanded and opened a second room which has hot yoga. Just recently I was brave enough to attend classes not taught by Kumi and am really pleased. Nora has been teaching some really great classes and brings a great sense of calm and compassion to the practice. They offer all leveled of classes and many different workshops and retreats. When I was new to LA I knew I needed to find a new studio. I shopped around town doing all the new student specials and, while there were a ton of great studios, the minute I walked into Veda, I knew it was home. The community that has been created in this space is unparalleled. Almost six years later, it is still my favorite and primary studio. When you walk in the door, it's like walking into the family home. I highly recommend to anyone and everyone!

I have been practicing yoga on and off for 12 years and this is hands down the best studio that I have ever been to. Where do I even begin? The studio owner, Kumi, is one of the most knowledgeable, kind, humble, and talented teachers that I have ever come across. She is a gift to the yoga community, and I always consider it such a privilege to practice alongside her. She's taught me more about yoga in the past two years that I've been attending Veda than I have learned throughout my entire practice. She and JQ ran the teacher training that I attended here and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The combination of their talent and skills produces incredible teachers and I'm lucky to practice with several of the teacher training alumni. The classes here are so much more than just a series of asanas. Each teacher offers their own unique nourishment for the soul and mind through their inspiring and thoughtful words. If you are looking to deepen your spiritual practice, this is absolutely the place. Eben's classes are a unique blend of philosophical wisdom paired with incredible body work. Noel and Taylor bring so much levity, fun, and laughter to their classes. Kartini, Eve, Yayoi, and Sasha offer their soothing, comforting, and calm goddess-like energy. Chris teaches the most kick-ass acro class you'll ever take. JQ's inversions are challenging and effective, and absolutely not to be missed. Also, if you've never practiced Kirtan with Govin Das and Radha, you're totally missing out. Can you tell that I'm in love with this place?

I really absolutely love this studio. I've been hopping around LA trying to find a yoga studio that didn't feel so sterile, or so corporatey.. Here at Veda, I've found that. The instruction is amazing, and I always leave the class feeling fulfilled and better than I arrived. Kumi is a wonderful instructor, and I really like how she seems interested in all her students. Even when I first did the Groupon, she would make adjustments on me, and help find an alternative when I couldn't do a specific pose. This kind of instruction is invaluable, and I've seen my practice improve vastly, just within that first month. I also just had a class with Joanna, and her class kicks butt! I can't wait to go back for more!! I have signed up to be a member, and I will continue to go here to support the local teachers, and the community it provides. I will continue to recommend to anyone who is looking for a real community space to better their practice. See you on the mat; you won't be disappointed here!

I appreciate K.C. 's Restorative Yoga class, as soon as I enter the room her warm, inviting nature helps me feel welcome and calm. I leave her class feeling open hearted and full of joy as she leads a beautiful class that allows me to truly connect with myself. I really enjoy how she includes inspiring stories and quotes into the practice. Another amazing Yoga teacher is Akane. I am grateful for her humility and passion for service. Her presence is soothing and I feel at peace during and after the practice. I loved Chris's hip hop yoga class, I left feeling energized, focused, challenged, and motivated. I appreciate his playful spirit and genuine energy. I am grateful for Kumi and Casie who provide a safe and welcoming space as they lead Wisdom Wednesday's where we learn the wisdom of yoga philosophy. I am inspired by all the amazing yogi instructors I have practiced with and full of gratitude as they share their knowledge about the importance of breath awareness, poses and their benefits.

This place is a true oasis in the hustle and bustle of LA. Fantastic studio! Such a warm, comforting atmosphere. I am so, so glad I bought a Groupon for this place. It's been 3 weeks and I feel rejuvenated. After each class, I feel so serene and grateful for the experience. All the instructors there are incredibly professional, kind knowledgeable, and unique in their practice. I prefer taking classes with Johanna and Noel, especially their Yoga Sculpt classes. You will sweat and you will like it!!! Classes are never too packed and the vibes are always dope. Come give it a shot, have an open mind, and you won't be sorry. Also, cushioned floors ya'll. Tip: you can always purchase water and rent mats there in case you forget. Also, cute lil hangout spot in the back, hammock included!
