14 Fabulous Places to Eat Around the Santa Ynez Valley - Eater LA

"Conveniently located off the 101 Highway, Vega Vinyard and Farm feels nothing short of idyllic. With vineyards and olive groves that span for acres and a working farm and petting zoo, too, there’s something for everyone at hospitality veterans Jimmy and Karen Loizides’s agro-tourism destination. Chef Christopher Rossi’s serves lunch and dinner on the sprawling grounds; menu highlights include the cavatelli cacio e pepe and deviled eggs with blue crab." - Cathy Chaplin, Eater Staff

We visited Vega Vineyard & Farm— and what can I say? It was an absolute delight. Right at the entrance, we were blown away by the stunning view of the vineyards, with the American flag waving proudly above a tractor, setting the scene just right. A friendly host welcomed us warmly and seated us with genuine care. I’m a vegetarian, my friend is vegan, and we were with someone who eats everything. The vegan found fewer options that suited her, but for the rest of us, the food was absolutely flawless. The Cacio e Pepe was excellent—just wow. And though I had a hard time picking the perfect wine (it took two tastings!), our server, Guy, was so kind, patient, and full of good energy the whole time. The wines were truly delicious—we all really enjoyed them. To wrap up the experience, I went to hug the animals on the farm— absolute sweethearts! Thanks to the fencing design, they get to choose whether they want to be close and cuddly or keep some distance from visitors, which I deeply appreciated. Thank you for such a delightful experience and warm hospitality!

This place ROCKS! Why? Food is excellent! Wines are great! Atmosphere is homey, country, classy and comfortable, but what sets it apart is the fantastic staff. Pictured here are a well trained team of people who really enjoy what they do. They are very attentive and helpful for each other! Jimmy and Karen please take note… Bobby was our server, and he made us feel like family. But not to take away from the rest of the team. Mattie, Kate, Jared and Sebastian, all were sincere hosts and made our visit not just a luncheon, but an enjoyable experience beyond all expectations. We will be back soon, and if you are reading this, then you should go here too! We LOVE Vega Vineyard and Farm. Oh yeah… family friendly, kids are encouraged and the petting zoo was a treat for all. Thanks Jimmy, Karen and the rest of of your wonderful team! Rock on! 🤘

Google
Vega Vineyards gave us the most magical wedding day we could have imagined. With less than 30 days to plan, Jessi and Nikita went above and beyond to bring our dream to life — every detail was thoughtfully taken care of. (We absolutely adore them!!) We had fallen in love with Vega a year prior, and it felt so special to say “I do” in a place that already held meaning for us. The food was absolutely incredible — our guests are still talking about it (the carrots were picked that morning!). In addition to the incredible food, there’s great accommodations on site and having our family get to stay in the adobe for the weekend was a treat. Vega will forever have a special place in our hearts and every one of the staff that supported us that weekend feels a little like family now. We’re forever grateful.

Google
We chanced upon Vega while searching for a family-friendly wine tasting experience around Solvang. This place did not disappoint! We reserved (highly recommend) a table for brunch at their farm-to-table restaurant. The serene vibe went so perfectly with our delicious food and the wine tasting experience. Our host was so knowledgeable and even indulged my novice questions about growing grapes! After our meal, we visited the farm animals, and the kids got to feed the goats, pigs, and sheep. We ended our visit at the kids playground where they had yard games set up next to their stunning grounds. I highly recommend Vega if you love wine, have kids, or just want to spend a serene day at a working farm doing activities that strictly involve no screentime.

Google
What an awesome place the grounds are beautiful a rustic Farm charm but clean and luxurious we fed the animals and took the tractor ride the experience was magnificent we are coming back for dinner tonight and wine tasting I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area the staff was just incredibly friendly and helpful we are absolutely in love with Vega Vineyard and farm! Update: after talking with several employees about our desire to come back in the afternoon for early dinner and wine tasting and enjoying the entire experience no one mentioned anything about the time that they would be closing or the fact that the restaurant wasn't even open it was only the brunch which we would have loved to experience but we showed up at 3:32 not knowing that it ended at 3:30 but we were so determined to enjoy ourselves and the restaurant staff told us that Pop's place was open later and had food we decided we would go to pop's place, I purchased a cigar a lighter and a cutter and we headed to Pop's place before going down we stopped at the shop to ask if we needed to buy a bottle of wine or did they have wine there they informed me that they would be closing at Pop's place by 4:00 leaving us 20 minutes to enjoy ourselves we decided to scrap the whole thing and we'll try again some other time. Place is so beautiful and the majority of the staff was so awesome.

Google
I had no idea what to expect at this vineyard when we drove here on a whim but I am very happy we did ! The service, wine, and food was PHENOMENAL! The Vineyard is so beautifully kept and the farm animals add to the charm of the place. There is cute seating areas spread throughout the grounds with privacy and family friendly activities are offered such as the tractor rides & feeding of the farm animals. Our dog was definitely curious to meet the goats ! Vega Vineyard is truly a gem ! Shout out to Jared who took care of us and made our first visit truly enjoyable 😊

Google
We rented a cabana out at "Pop's Place" on the 4th of July and absolutely loved the experience. Our server "Ari" treated us like royalty. Their wine was delicious. We spent 4 hours eating, drinking and lounging out in the vineyard under the shade of the immense oak trees. What an idyllic place to while away an afternoon with friends and family.

Google
Had a beautiful lunch for four at their lovely vineyard. Wonderful food and reasonably priced wines, outstanding friendly service, and a charming outdoor dining setting made for a nice surprise. The viognier and GLT sandwich (gyros, lettuce, tomato) were particularly great. We will definitely come back.

Yelp
Such a fun and beautiful place! Went here for my 21st and Bobby served our table with the best wines. He was awesome! We all had such a blast with the staff and the place is amazing. 10/10 recommend and will be coming back!

Yelp
The food, the wine, the service all were fantastic. I was amazed until I understood that the chef came from the Sear, the excellent local restaurant, and that the wine maker was Steve Clifton. An exceptional chef, an exceptional vintner, in an exceptional location (the former Mosby vineyard). The view was great. We enjoyed the Wild Boar nudel dish, and the Vega salad with giros and the walnut cheesecake. Everything was excellent. Then I must compliment the low key, relaxed, and well informed service. We were given excellent advice on both the menu and the wine. We will be back.

Yelp
We made reservations here to celebrate our 21st anniversary and we were not impressed with the food or service. The 3 stars is for the location, ambience and cleanliness. The waiter was not very helpful. We ordered a charcuterie for 4, and he never came and said explained what cheese and meats were from where. Nor did he refill our wine glasses once. We gave him our dinner order under the impression that it would come after we could enjoy the appetizer. It came fast! My Cacio de Pepe was cold and not very good. The Serrano ham on the charcuterie was also dry. Later the waiter came and took my plate without asking if I was done, as my fork was in the bowl. Terrible service, and food was OK.

Yelp
Great vineyard in the area! I love the burger and the wine testing. Price is acceptable. For a flight, it is only $25. Not too bad! The server was nice and she recommended me their burger which had a deep grill mark on. I love it There are some animals on the yard which you can go visit with your family or kids. Great place for a quick hang around ! The place was nice

Yelp
We enjoyed a tasty dinner at Vega Vineyard tonight. Started with meatballs and then enjoyed the 12 hr short rib. It was delicious. We finished with cheesecake. Enjoyed all with a flight of wine. Nice vineyard and restaurant overall and worth a visit. Just remember they close at 7. Wish they were open a bit longer in the evening.

Yelp
Amazing wine, food, and service. The farm is so fun and the kids love it! We visited 3 times over a week visit! Defiantly a must see!
google avatar

Janice M.

Yelp
Absolutely love! Came to celebrate my birthday and was so happy with Vega vineyard. The wine is absolutely amazing, I tried a flight of 2 whites and 3 reds, all were great! Kids had a blast feeding and petting the animals, there was lots to see and a lot of room to play. The service was fantastic, everything was prompt and staff friendly. Love the location, it was absolutely beautiful. You have views of the vineyard and the hills, it was a dream. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Beautiful winery - perfect to experience a wine tasting or day out solo, with a partner, with friends, or with your family. Peaceful outdoor seating options overlooking the vineyards as well as patio seating with heaters for the colder days. Good selection of wines for a wine tasting. Seemed a little unorganized or busy because they skipped one of the tastings in our flight. Decent food menu. Bacon and fennel flatbread is a good choice. GLT was my favorite - could've used just a bit more meat, though. Walnut cheesecake was fantastic. Good stop for wine tasting.

Yelp
We enjoyed this place so much we visited twice during our recent stay in Solvang. We had lunch on Saturday and brunch Sunday. This was the first winery we visited where the food was not an afterthought. The hospitality and dining is extraordinary. The atmosphere, the vibe, the staff, the food, the wine- 5/5 across the board. We'll be back again and again. One of the best burgers we've ever had!

Yelp
We were first time visitors after hearing about it from friends and Yelp. I made a reservation on TOCK. It was slightly wet day, there is no paved parking. The wine list has some Italian varietals and the menu has appetizers, salads, flatbreads and some entrees. They also offer brunch items on the weekends. They have a petting zoo and can buy a head of romaine lettuce for $5 with cash/venmo to feed the animals. They also have a designer boutique on the property and a gift store in the barn.

Yelp
I hosted 2 corporate dinners at Vega Vineyard & Farm this month (200 ppl and 100 ppl). The venue is the perfect setting with rolling hills in the background, adorable farm animals, tractor ride, tasty wine and amazing farm to table meals. All of this within a 25-minute drive from The Ritz-Carlton, Bacara. Jimmy, Jessie and the entire staff was extremely helpful and attentive. I would HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking for a corporate event / wedding. They even have onsite accommodations. Check it out... I plan to come back on my personal time!

Yelp
Best place to go for lunch and then back again for a glass of wine after work. My kids love the animals and can't wait for the new cabanas to open... always new things to see at Vega.
google avatar

Lizzy C.

Yelp
Vega Vineyards is a great location for lunch, wine tasting, entertainment, and hanging out outside. There was live music to enjoy in the background. It's extremely windy here so bring a warm jacket. I did not drink any wine, but the food was amazing. The Wagyu burger was one of the best burgers we have ever had!! my husband ate it so fast we did not have a picture of it. It came with a side of cold potato salad, would have rather had fries or hot potatoes. The ahi crudo was great, but very small portion for an expensive price. I'm going back just for the burger!

Yelp
Dakota was amazing! She was so informative and very attentive. I went by myself to kill some time while my boyfriend and his golf club golfed and she was so nice. There was a lot of parties around me since it was Sunday morning but Dakota was great! I went to Ken Browns to pick up an order for my grandmother and the lady working recommended this winery. We did 3 wine tastings and Dakota made this my favorite experience. I didn't eat here but did look over the menu and it all sounded delicious. Next time we will eat and drink here. Totally recommend this winery.

Yelp
We tried Vega Vineyards for the first time the other day and it is well worth a visit. They have inside and outside seating, are pet friendly, and have some games and activates for the kids and kids at heart. They have a decent menu, and the food is really good. I had a Greek salad that was very fresh and tasty. The patio area is beautiful, comfortable, and it is surrounded by vineyards. Even though they were busy and short on wait staff, the service was excellent. And our server, Paco, really knew the wines and made the experience that much more enjoyable. And now for the most important part, the wine. With all of the excellent choices for wine tasting in the Santa Ynez Valley, why stop here? It is simple. Their wines range from very good to excellent. We did not try a bad wine. The white wines were easy to drink and not overly sweet, and the red wines were excellent.
google avatar

Linda F.

Yelp
Good wines, my housemate belongs to their wine club. It's could be a good place to stop for a tasting but I've always skipped that treat since I personally find the staff rude, distant and unwelcoming! Perhaps it's a YT thing, and perhaps they give everyone the , I wouldn't think so. Anyhow, one of the winemakers, Steve Clifton, is amazing and I would go anywhere to get his wine... even here. Staying for a drink... nope.
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
A SANTA YNEZ VALLEY GEM! STRONGLY RECOMMEND! Ample tables and spaces to enjoy, a well-organized zoo menagerie, good noshes, relaxing live music. Awesome for groups, families, and/or couples! PRO TIP: pay $5 for a head of lettuce to feed the farm animals!
google avatar

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Good wine tasting and really delicious baked Brie! Loved that they have some farm animals too. Great service and it's nice they have live music too.
google avatar

Christopher G.

Yelp
Friendly staff, great views of the hillsides. The animal farm was lots of fun! Highly recommend the charcuterie board accompanied with the tastings.
google avatar

Patricia T.

Yelp
Food was delicious and wines were great. I especially like that it's very family friendly . There are animals for the children to feed and lots of space to run around. When we first arrived the staff did not approach us to wait on us n we did have to ask for assistance after sitting for around 10 minutes. Once our waitress came she was attentive and made sure we always had drinks, food. Happy (new) wine club members!

David S.

Yelp
I give it 4 stars only because of the horrible water they serve at the table. It is very undrinkable. One of the servers went to their store and brought back some bottles of water. You should forget the water just drink the wine which is fantastic and the food is out of this world. The wait staff goes out of their way to please the guests. Whenever we are in the area we always go to Vega for wine and food. Dakota is a super fantastic server. Please ask for her.
google avatar

Adela R.

Yelp
We stopped here for a wine tasting a lunch. The venue is pretty, but the atmosphere was really loud. More of a party setting, rather than a tranquil winery experience. They had 2 weddings, a birthday and a party bus happening. All fine and good, it was just not the relaxing environment I was hoping for going to a winery. The food was good, portions are on the smaller side. I had the GLT and my boyfriend had the pasta which he loved. Wine was ok, nothing that specifically stood out to me personally but everyone has different tastes. We really wanted to explore the grounds and the market, but we were not allowed due to one of the weddings happening.
google avatar

Blaine E.

Yelp
My favorite place to go in the area for wine. If you plan on visiting the petting zoo, come prepared to avoid bug bites. This isn't a problem for everyone or every visit. But some times you get bit, so preparing with long sleeves or insect repellant may do you some good.
google avatar

Tally S.

Yelp
Very cute winery. They have a large wide variety of wine selections and a large lunch menu. They also have very cute animals
google avatar

Yelp
Went for my wife's birthday and couldn't have been any happier with the experience. Food was delicious atmosphere was amazing service was well tendered. Encourage everyone to visit

Yelp
I love this place. It was my second visit and I was entertaining a friend from Napa, CA. Hard to impress someone from that neck of the woods. We arrived at 11:30 and were able to choose whatever table we wanted as it was not at all crowded. Within an hour a number of tables were occupied. Popular even midweek and a lovely place to have a leisurely lunch. Great wine selection, well prepared, fresh food and excellent service. Our waiter, Reid, went over the many wines available and was very attentive. We were not rushed through our meal, and were able to enjoy the gorgeous view and surroundings. After lunch, we walked down to the small "zoo" of farm animals, where you could purchase a bunch of romaine lettuce and feed the many goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens, and even a couple of llamas in residence. They have a large outside event venue for weddings, etc. Just a great place for lunch. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
This was the last stop on our wine tour and they say save the best for last for a reason I guess. Vega was really nice and it was cool. They had a little area with goats and pigs and rabbits. The staff was great. The best member of the staff was BOBBY. He was very nice and super cool. Anytime I go back I would specifically ask for Bobby to by me server. I can honestly go on and on about BOBBY BOBBY BOBBY. The wine was great as well. We did the wine tasting and all the wines were great. We left with a couple bottles. The cheesecake was also great. I would for sure recommend this place.
google avatar

Lorraine P.

Yelp
Dry short rib Wierd service- Male host awkwardly unwelcoming and female waitress "keep your hands off my husband!" Uncomfortable!! Ambiance- ehhh so-so dirt road
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Really spacious winery, perfect for a nice day. It has live music and animals to visit and feed as well! We enjoyed our day here with some wine flights. One annoying element of our visit was really unreliable service, our server would take so much time between each of our flights and in the end we asked for the bill to be brought to our table with the last pour, naturally it was not. But I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume if we come another time our service would be better.
google avatar

Cyndi S.

Yelp
There is something for everyone here at Vega. We came with a large group ranging from 4 to 74 and everywhere in between. The grandparents aren't drinkers but found the property beautiful and well cared for. The little ones loved the animals and the kid friendly menu items. Our little fur baby was welcomed along with several other pups on the shady covered patio. The entire party of 13 could not have been happier with the service Jessica provided. She was very attentive. She checked back often, made recommendations that we loved and never seemed to be bothered by our large, demanding group. If you are looking for a family and dog friendly refreshing take on lunch with the bonus of wine tasting, check out Vega.

Taylor S.

Yelp
This place is beautiful and has an awesome petting zoo for the kids Highly recommend it, and the food is great
google avatar

Tomster L.

Yelp
Good - FOOD! Great. Service is great! Bad - Wine! Mediocre or bad to some Disappointed- they stuck us against wall farthest from sunlight and outdoor seating which is the ONLY REASON WE WENT. My waitress was super nice as I overheard her advocate for us but they claimed the tables were reserved and when we left no persons ever sat where we wanted. We left right after eating due to 1) not seating us in the empty tables closer to the outdoor area 2) bad wine
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
First time visitor to Vega- for the 2pm seating on Easter. It was pouring and they were prepared with tenting & awnings for people waiting for their reservation- we were sat probably 30 minutes past our reservation- and it was understandable as they were quite busy. Once at our table, we were greeted by friendly staff who brought water, silverware and wine. The buffet was full, a bit messy and the staff never stopped bringing fresh product out- including the Chef, who was having a great time keeping food moving! My scrambled eggs were warm & perfectly cooked, soft & fluffy. The cedar planked salmon was awesome- thick slabs of perfectly cooked fish. The salads were great, as were the breakfast potatoes and sausage. The desserts were portioned into little cups, making it easy to taste it all. I heard they had over 700 reservations- kudos to Vega for a great afternoon- impressive! I do not enjoy going out on busy holidays- it always is a let down- Vega handled the crowds/the weather and all the kids (!!!) in a professional and sane manner
google avatar

Justin C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Red wines are very good and not too expensive. Large outdoor area is perfect for relaxing
google avatar

Trace V.

Yelp
Came in for lunch on a quiet Monday and really enjoyed the experience. The setting was lovely with a large, dog friendly patio with plenty of tables and a view of the hills. This is a full service restaurant as well -- so loved our gourmet, upscale lunch. Papparadelle with Wild Boar was fab -- and the BARBERA red wine was also first rate. They were playing a nice selection of music but not too loud so we still hear ourselves talk. Around the corner you can visit their farm animals and say hello, feed them, or get in a pet or two. I can see this being a regular stop every time we are in the area!
google avatar

Eleni H.

Yelp
Vega Vineyard and Farm is now doing weekend dinners in their gorgeous patio with sweeping sunset views of the valley. We were greeted by our server Dakota who did a fabulous job walking us through the menu and suggesting wines. We settled on the Barbera, which we all enjoyed and paired perfectly with all our food choices. We ordered the oysters, truffled chicken liver pate and the hamachi crudo. Everything was fantastic and presentation was beautiful. For dinner we shared the Tomato and Panzanella salad, the salmon and the smoked quail. We finished our meal with the cheesecake and crème brûlée. We look forward to Our next visit to Vega for dinner! It checked all our boxes for a wonderful meal in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Ri R.

Yelp
Went to dinner with a group to Vega Winery. The portions were a quarter of a normal portion. We had to order extra food which is a shame because it spoiled our experience. Quality of the food was good and the ambiance was pleasant

Julie B.

Yelp
To be fair to this business, they did contact me and tried to make it right. I really appreciate that, and that they followed up. I think we all have had bad days with unexpected obstacles to overcome, so I think they really deserve a second chance.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
we visited this new winery because our kids wanted to see the barn animals. The property itself is very large and beautiful, perfect for large events. They serve food on site which is nice for those who want to do a food/wine pairing. My husband and I shared a tasting flight. The wines we had weren't very good, not complex at all. Our server didn't explain the wines to us very well and seemed in a hurry even though there were only 2 other parties there at the time. The bbq smoke really bothered us because it distracted us from smelling and tasting our wines. Kids enjoyed seeing and feeding the animals (bunnies, goats, mini bull, etc) while we drank. Would not return.
google avatar

Shelby S.

Yelp
We recently visited Vega while they were partnering with Brick Barn Winery for free tastings for existing members. It was a great excuse to try out a new winery and we left that day being members of Vega! Such a beautiful setting with lots of our door seating areas. We were super impressed with the animal farm and immediately took our nieces to go visit. It's a really family friendly spot with space for kids to run around and play. I love the live music and the wines are all super tasty! It sounds like they will be opening an adults only section at some point, so that's cool too! The weekends seem to be busy, so be sure to make a reservation in advance if you can!
google avatar

Ginny M.

Yelp
Great food Good music Good wine Love the animals you can pay $5.00 to feed them if you want Parking is easy Staff was very nice
google avatar

P C.

Yelp
Gorgeous vineyard!! We stayed here through harvest host and loved it. The wines were delicious and the staff was friendly. You can purchase kale to feed their animals which we enjoyed. The grounds are well kempt and the decor is adorable. Thank you Vega, we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Helen Y.

Yelp
This place is awesome. It is our favorite winery in the area. Their staff are always welcoming and helpful. Dakota is our favorite person there. She is personable, knowledgeable and professional. She knows her wines! We love the on site food options, all of which are delicious. Their wines are great. Favorite white is Vermentino and red is Barbers. Jesse, the manager, is efficient and a wonderful person, as well. Owners have worked hard to make this a special destination. Don't miss coming here if you are in the area.

Sarah F.

Yelp
We loved our visit to Vega Vineyard! The location and views were stunning, we experienced really incredible service (truly, top notch), enjoyed GREAT food/wine, and we really loved meeting the farm animals. We also brought our dog, who loved it too! For food, we got the hamachi crudo, the burrata salad, and the quail -- all were stunning. I got the wine flight (which is no longer available after 5:30p fwiw) and my husband got the Pinot. Everything was sensational. The highlight was the salad and the Malvasia wine. Their pet policy, for those who have a noisy dog: they issue a warning for their first barking fit, and if it occurs again, you wbe asked to leave -- which tbh sounds very fair, especially considering how many people are trying to enjoy their time at this peaceful location. We will absolutely be back and already have told a wine loving friend with a kid who we think would enjoy it as well.

Yelp
We had a wonderful first experience at Vega this past Sunday for their easter brunch. We camped at flying flags and this place was an easy bike ride away. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this place. First off, its such a beautiful property! Second, we were greeted with a smile and had the best customer service experience from beginning to end. Third, the food was delicious. I am not a fan off buffets but the food was soooo good and the white blend wine we had was very good. The kids had so much fun, live music, cute bunnies and a petting zoo... the easter bunny walking around and a super fun egg hunt. We cannot wait to return for some wine tasting, looking forward to becoming a club member.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious lunch and a great place to take your children while enjoying a nice glass of wine or a wine tasting flight. My girls walked around and see the animals as well. Jessica gave the best service and has the gorgeous blue teal eyes I've ever seen. The vineyard is very airy and pretty in a rustic country way. Would definitely return.
google avatar

E L.

Yelp
My family had an amazing time here! We originally came for a glass of wine but ended up staying for hours. My kids loved the animals, they fed lettuce to them and watched the baby pigs!!! The farm stand is impressive and the boutique is full of unique goodies. We had salads and the cheese board, everything was top notch!!!
google avatar

Suzanne M.

Yelp
Great, friendly service; nice setting. I just felt sorry for the animals that were kept in such small pens.

K N.

Yelp
Yelpers, thank you for introducing Vega Vineyard and Farm. This is a nice gem and a must stop during your Santa Ynez valley trip. The setting is just gorgeous! You have to have a lunch with a glass of wine, so why not here? I had today's soup (butternut squash) and delicious roasted beet salad, and the wine was decent. I ended up picking up a case of wine. Some of the wine are totally different from the previous creators at the same location. I have to keep a watch for Mr Clifton's winemaking for upcoming years. I have a high hope. PS: potbelly piglets are very cute. You might have a hard time tearing your kids away from their farm yard.
