The 15 Best Vegan Restaurants in Tokyo, Japan | Eater

"Located near Harajuku, right above the Kyushu Jangara ramen shop — which also offers a couple of excellent vegan bowls — and operated by the same company, this restaurant serves a number of meat-free noodly delights too. However, the star of the show is the Juju Grill, a vegan and gluten-free take on a Japanese steakhouse classic: soy meat served on a sizzling cast-iron plate, doused in your choice of soy- or miso-based sauce. Order one with a side of gyoza and a tall glass of the sweet, photogenic, indigo-colored cream soda to get the energy needed to resist the temptations of the Omotesando shopping street outside. The restaurant also offers a good selection of options free of gluten (and of pungent roots, a factor for some Buddhist diners), and the seasonal drinks and shrubs are a real treat." - Chiara Terzuolo

We came to this place around 6 on a Sunday night right as dinner time started. Already a line had formed. It probably took about 45 minutes to an hour for our party of 3 to be seated. While the food was pretty good (the buffalo chicken appetizer was great, tonkatsu ramen flavor bold and strong, not a huge fan of the soy meat- weird taste, odd texture)for the price, I wasn’t incredibly impressed. I also found the service to be lacking. We ordered a cola and had to ask one more time for it as the waiter forgot it. Close to the end of the meal, we asked to have waters refilled but never got it done. There was just one waiter for a busy dining room; with items being forgotten and service not fulfilled, I would hope for the restaurant to staff properly in the future. Also I’d recommend a time limit for busy nights as there was a party before us that had finished their meals but were sitting and talking for nearly 2 hours. It is quite difficult to find good vegan options in Japan/Tokyo so I’m glad this place at least exists and offers decent food. All in all, I’m glad I tried this place but would not return a second time

Google
Nice restaurant near the Meiji Jingu temple. Doesn’t take reservations so we arrived there and waited about 10 minutes to get seated because of other people in line in front of us. The personnel is nice and the food in general is tasty. We took a variety of dishes, from the gyozas to the curry. We didn’t like the quesadillas, that were not properly cooked and the avocado sauce did not taste too good. The dessert were also disappointing: too small slices and a bit frozen. Aside from that, both the ramen and the curry were definitely two great options, and the vegan meat was very tasty and properly seasoned. The gyoza were also good and nicely crisp. The atmosphere inside is not really fancy, but there is a nice open kitchen that makes it more inviting.

Google
Lots of tourists go here, to the point that we didn’t see any Japanese when we were there. The spicy ramen was realllyyy spicy, if you can’t handle spicy food, better not order it. The noodle though, was really smooth with a perfect texture. Everything tasted good, price is a bit high but considering it’s a fully vegan restaurant, which is rare in tokyo, it makes sense.

Google
I had the yuzu ramen with colorful vegetables, my partner had one of the spicy ramens, and we shared a couple of desserts, the soy pudding and raspberry cake, which were very cute. All of the food was absolutely delicious, and the portions were perfect, though the spicy ramen was a little too spicy for my partner (and he even got it less spicy than normal!), so he wasn't able to finish the broth entirely. It did help with the seasonal allergies he was experiencing, though! The restaurant was totally slammed, mostly with foreigners like us, but that's to be expected during sakura season. We had a great time, and all of the staff were so patient, kind, and easy to communicate with. We loved the food so much, we ended up getting some gyoza to go, which were amazing to have later. I highly recommend Vegan Bistro Jangara! There were a few other foreigners eating and/or waiting at the same time as us who were being unreasonably loud. Please keep your voice down in public places, this is not your boardroom presentation! Hope this helps.

Arrived at 2.30pm on a weekday and had a long queue till the staircase. Waited for around 30mins to get seated. Seats were limited as the place was small. Washroom available. Despite being oriental vegetarian (no 5 pungents), there are many options available! Whole lot variety of food I'm deeply in love with their karaage chicken because it tastes like the actual chicken. Almost got shock. Their ramen were solid too. I found the mentaiko rice unique because it's not common to find mentaiko in vegetarian dishes. The sizzling hotplate smells superb too! I recommend to try! The mock meat tasted soooo good after being grilled on the hotplate! The fries were kinda normal, feels fries with normal chilly flakes. But I'm definitely coming back here to eat again!

Google
A solid 5 stars for this great vegan restaurant. I'm veggie and have had difficulty finding vegetarian food in the city. The flavours were superb. Amazing ramen. Craft cola. Tasty gyoza. The service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend 👌🏼

Google
Hands down, the best vegan ramen I’ve had in Tokyo so far! 🍜✨ We waited about 7-10 minutes, and once seated, we ordered spicy fries, poutine fries, vegetable soy sauce ramen, and Taiwanese spicy noodles, finishing off with a delicious raspberry mousse chocolate cake. Our favorite was the Taiwanese spicy noodles—while it could have been spicier, it had bolder, more flavorful notes compared to the other ramen. A must-visit for vegan food lovers!

Google
Highly rated and busy we expected a great dinner...but I think we made the mistake of not getting ramen. Everyone else was eating ramen around us but we had ramen for lunch, and a lot on this trip, so we tried the burrito and the sizzling soy meat. Unfortunately they were not very good - lacking flavor and texture. The salad was actually the best thing we had. The non-alcoholic beer and pomegranate soda were nice as well. I guess the moral of the story is to get the ramen, which is FAR and away the most mentioned thing in the reviews. Woops ☹️

Yelp
Came here after walking around and shopping for a bit. I thought this place was vegan bistro Jangara but it is actually below it. I decided to get the vegan garlic ramen. Overall it was ok just a bit salty for my liking. The food came out quickly (literally 3 minutes after sitting down) which is great if you're really hungry.

Yelp
This ramen restaurant my friends have been coming to for years. They know the owner, who also opened a Vegan Ramen restaurant just upstairs of this one. We all ate at the original one downstairs. Me and 4 others all decided to have the most popular item on the menu. What a good decision we all made. I also ordered a beer, lol. Ramen is so Oishi in Japan, nothing was disappointing. We all loved our food! Whatever playlist they chose for that day was on point! Top 40's and past popular songs too! Have your iPhone translator app on hand in the event a server cannot speak English well. That was one thing I should have mastered is Conversational Japanese. But all you can do at this point is try your best with whatever Japanese words you know.

Yelp
Best Ramen I have ever had. Whole family loved it. Seemed suspect in touristy neighborhood outside temple, but the food was great and the atmosphere authentic.

Yelp
Ooooo I love this place because they have a plant based option! I love ramen, but plant based ramen is hard to come by! ... and one that tastes good is even more hard to come by! The staff is friendly and the place seems clean. It's a nice place to just grab a nice warm bowl of ramen to enjoy while you're in Japan. It's not far from the station too, so that's a plus!

Yelp
This is some of the best ramen I've had! The flavor of the soup and the toppings come together so nicely.

Yelp
The best tonkatsu ramen we had during our trip. I had put Kyushu Jangara on my list to hit up two days before heading toTokyo. Kyushu is located in Shibuya it's a good 7 to 10 minutes walk from Harajuku station. The restaurant is on the second floor above the Hedgehog cafe. SERVICE: Excellent and very friendly. They have English menu as well. FOOD: Bonshan( Mild Tonkotsu) This was my daughter's bowl. She absolutely loved it. I took a little taste, and man that broth was excellent. It was so flavorful and rich. Kyushu Jangara ( Miso Tonkotsu) This was mine. The best bowl of Ramen ever. The miso broth was amazing. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the portion was perfect. Kobonshan( Tonkotsu Miso and Fried Garlic Oil) This was the best out of the three bowls. I can still taste the broth while writing this review. It was that good. I highly recommend this place and it kid friendly as well.

Yelp
Cash only! This is the second time that I'm here. The ramen tasted just as great as when I had it in 2015. Location is on the second floor. You can take the elevator up or you can walk up the stairs. Two times that I've been here, there was no wait at all. Probably because we came during the weekday. After visiting the Takeshita Street make sure you drop in for the best bowl of ramen. It can be compared to ichiran! They have English menu and the waiter spoke English so you are safe. Ask your questions! I ordered the 2A: 1180 Yen. Tonkotsu pork bone stock soup is creamy and rich in collagen. True that! Came with two chunks of marinated pork, two pieces of sliced pork, seasoned cod roe, and boiled egg. Taste wise: delicious! Broth on point. Rich, creamy, full flavored. Enough meat to satisfy you. Egg was cook to perfection, medium, bright orange. Noodle was great. Service was quick. They had ice water jug in each section so you can self serve your water. They came to your attention when you need them. Perfect ! I tried six different restaurant of Ramen so far in Japan and I must say this was one of the best Ramen I've had. I don't usually give out five stars so make sure you check this place out when you drop by harajuku!

Yelp
The last exhibit in my "I actually do like ramen, I'd just never had good one before" Japan trip. TWO vegan ramen available! When we walked in we immediately were handed the English menus, with the two vegan ramens in the front. We had a slight miscommunication, where they thought we asked for an egg (we actually ordered extra noodles), but it all got figured out really quick and we got the right ramen. The short version: this may be a chain, but it has character, friendly staff/chefs, and good ramen! Notes: - if you get the extra ramen, they give you a stub which you hand in when you're ready for more noodles - both the soy and salt broths were good, not sure that I can pick a favorite - I loaded up on the condiments, I am a pickle-fiend - lovely atmosphere. The guys working were all in a good mood, one even bopping around to music. The restaurant is filled with funny drawings and stickers (assuming all the locations have them), but it gives the ramen shop a fun/light vibe

Yelp
This place offers a vegan ramen. I didn't particularly like the taste, but it was my first and only ramen experience in Japan, so it may be good. There was a definite language barrier. I wanted a soft boiled egg and got a hard boiled egg, even after pointing to the picture. I also made a late decision after paying for my meal to add an egg when seeing everyone else with an egg in their ramen. So I paid for the egg at the register (separately), but the person making the food wanted me to pay again for the egg when delivering the order. I didn't know what to make of that.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Kyushu Jangara with a group of friends while walking around the Harajuku area looking for dinner, and I must say that I was not disappointed by the result of this one bit! Kyushu Jangara is located on the second floor of a building alongside what is typically a very busy street in Harajuku. I came here with a group of six and we were seated along a counter. They have an English menu here which does a very excellent job explaining every option and variety of extras that can be added to the ramen. I opted for a basic tonkatsu offering and decided to add cod roe. I also upgraded the hard-boiled egg to a soft boiled one for an additional 20 yen. I honestly don't remember too much about the ramen here since it's been a while since I've had it, but what I do remember is that it was stinkin' good and super rich and creamy. If you like a nice rich tonkatsu broth full of collagen, this is definitely the one for you. I enjoyed the ramen here a lot and would definitely recommend it!
google avatar

Yuri C.

Yelp
Of course I had to review here, how could I not! I've been coming here since I could eat! Something about their deep flavored fatty tonkotsu broth and the thin al dente noodles and the side of takana always always always make me want to come back for more. 2nd floor is always busy so just go to the floor above it. It's the same!
google avatar

Yelp
Really good tonkatsu ramen! Cash only. The first level (which is still up the stairs) opens at 1045am and does not serve dumplings. The second level (which is actually up the elevator) opens at 11am and serves dumplings. We came right when they opened and were second in line. I ordered 1c which is the regular kyushu jangara ramen with a soft boiled egg (20¥ extra) (no roe). Actually had more than 2 pcs of pork like typical ramen places, hah. My hubby ordered 4a which is the spicy karabon ramen with a soft boiled egg and extra pork for 200¥. At first tasting he liked my ramen better, but after he ate all his and then finished up mine, he preferred the spicy ramen better bc mine seemed plain after eating his. Definitely recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Amazing ramen spot with excellent service! Normally this place has a long line out the door (and up the indoor stairwell), but we arrived right when they opened and there was nobody and we were seated right away. Their signature ramen, for around $10 USD, includes chasiu pork slices, ajitama (seasoned gooey soft boiled egg) and a pink dollop of salmon roe, which I have never had before in my ramen. The salmon roe adds a fishy flavor and is worth trying at least once. They have many combinations that allow you to omit the egg or the salmon roe as well. I loved everything about my signature ramen bowl, especially the pork broth which was outstanding and the perfectly cooked thin straight noodles. In Japan, you really don't get thick curly noodles in ramen -- we Americans have been misinformed as in the US that is how Japanese ramen usually is in restaurants. Surprisingly, they also had a vegan ramen option that was totally plant based. My guess is it was miso soup instead of tonkotsu. What was fun is that the server asked if we wanted a photo, and he gave us props (fun signs with the restaurant name on them) to hold for our photo!

Yelp
Oh boy, so glad I came here. I was hesitant to come here for 2 reasons. Firstly I've had so much ramen since my arrival in Japan that I was 'almost' tired of it. Secondly, just seemed super touristy. The place is touristy and they were playing 'we will rock you' when I arrived. That aside, coming to the food part. Got the hot and spicy tonkotsu. For people like me that don't know what tonkotsu is, it's creamy, heavenly, rich deliciousness made from the bone and marrow and is your perfect sidekick to a rainy day. Anyways, not sure if it was bcoz I was having tonkotsu for the first time or it was just that good, I pretty much slurped down the bowl and felt happy and content inside.

Yelp
Delicious and super efficient, loved getting a chance to eat Ramen in Japan! The restaurant is so well designed from the ordering to the seating, even with long lines the wait shouldn't be too horrible. Located in Shibuya, there's so many nearby places where you can walk off the delicious meal you just had. Yum, hope to be back soon!
google avatar

Yelp
How can I possibly have ramen when I go back to the states. WoW! This place is simply amazing. My tastebuds were in heaven. Be prepared as they're might be a wait. There's limited seating and this place is popular so after paying for your selection, you might have to wait just a few minutes to get seated. What's great is while your waiting, the kitchen already had your order so seconds after being seated, you're food will be delivered to you. The service is great. The cashier spoke enough English for us to understand each other. I ordered the #1 spicy with a few additions. It was absolutely amazing!!! Of course the best ramen I've ever had in my life. My only regret is that I didn't consume it all thanks to be large beer I ordered to accompany my ramen.

Yelp
I was introduced to this place about 15 years ago, which was my real introduction to the fantastic world of ramen that I only had a small idea of before coming here. Since then, I've eaten over a hundred bowls of ramen in my time here and can say, it is still my favorite ramen restaurant and if you are in the area, and craving ramen, this would have to be the place to visit for a bowl of heavenly noodles. It's not often that I do this (really, I'm a bit of a harsh, and stingy critic at times), but this place gets 5 stars all across the board. And apparently looking at the other reviews I'm not the only one who feels this way. Get it!!! ---------------------------- Details Value: (5/5) Menu/selection: (5/5) Quality: (5/5) Service/staff: (5/5) Ambiance: (5/5) Value Great value for everything. You can add toppings which for a fully loaded bow of ramen with all the toppings would run slightly over 1000 yen. I think regular bowls start at under 700 yen. Menu/selection The ramen broth here is pork and soy sauce based, but I have seen miso on the menu as well. There are a ton of side dishes and toppings so there is no shortage of variety here. Quality The taste will tell you only the best quality ingredients are being used and presentation of the bowl tells you the love that went into making the ramen here. Service/staff Friendly and very helpful staff, and ENGLISH MENU that describes everything perfectly. The staff here love ramen, people and the great service shows it. Ambiance Nothing fancy. A homey, cozy vibe with somewhat worn wooden tables and chairs. Music pumping, and the sound of people slurping, orders being called out, and bowls and plates clanging make for what every good ramen restaurant should sound like. Final thoughts I don't come here as often as I want to and the lines here kind of put me off, but whenever I do stop in for a bowl, I realize the lines are definitely worth it. If you are visiting Japan, this should be a destination if ramen is anywhere on your agenda. The surrounding area of stores, and Yoyogi park are a plus as well, so plan a visit here.

Yelp
Kyushu Jangara got on my "ramen-dar" when I heard they offer two vegan ramen options. This location was pretty easy to find (unlike most restaurants in Tokyo) and the staff were very friendly. While I appreciated the vegan ramen option, I felt like their's still needs some work. It just didn't have a lot of flavor and was really unmemorable. There are so many other vegan ramen options in Tokyo that are much better. I'd eat here again if I'm in a pinch or with someone else who wants to eat at this chain, but I won't be a regular.

Yelp
TL;DR - Need a cheap, filling and tasty bowl of ramen? This is the place. We found this place through Yelp and would have probably missed it otherwise, because although it's on the main street, the entrance is set back and up a flight of stairs. Also, there seems to be a nearly permanent queue down the steps... but we were incredibly lucky and there was none when we arrived. You pay at the desk on the left as you enter, then take a seat. The guy taking our order spoke only a little bit of English but was super friendly and helpful - and there are pictures on the menu which helps a lot! Mark went for a fairly typical ramen dish and I went for an extra garlicky version. Food came quickly and was really tasty and satisfying... it was almost too much for me to finish. We had a beer alongside and thoroughly enjoyed the meal and atmosphere. It's a bit chaotic and busy, but the food is great and very reasonably priced. Cute note: we got free ramen keyrings with our real!
google avatar

Shawn H.

Yelp
Solid ramen spot that was recommended to us before we got to Japan. It wasn't our favorite ramen on our trip, but still very good. We got the standard kyushu jangara with pork and egg, and the garlic version with pork and cod roe. We definitely preferred the garlic, which had more flavor / kick to it.
google avatar

Terry C.

Yelp
Just had a bowl of the garlic oil tonkotsu ramen. It's so good. I've ate a lot of ramen in my life and this is the best ramen i've had! The noodle and soup is just perfect! This place was kind of hard to find coming from takeshita street. Just keep walking pass Johnny cafe, pass Gindaco Takoyaki, and turn left. It's upstairs of family mart. Take the stairs to the left side of family mart. I've posted pictures and video of the front.
google avatar

Shane A.

Yelp
Was recommended to this place and glad we came. Probably the best ramen I've had yet. The spicy broth was perfectly balanced between savory and spicy. The noodles cooked perfectly with a nice chew. Would recommend to anyone in the Harajuku area.
google avatar

Terrance P.

Yelp
This would be the best ramen to date. It is an absolute delight. The skinny ramen was cooked to the right consistency. The hot and spicy sauce was flavorful and did not disappoint. The boiled egg and pork combined the bowl and made for an absolutely sensational meal. We waited 30 minutes and it was well worth it. The service is fast and efficient but not imposing. Must definitely return.

Yelp
*KYUSHU JANGARA * Love this place! They have English menu so it's easy to order. CASH ONLY!! They also have a great VEAGN ramen !!! The noodles are so good. The Second floor is same restaurant with a shorter waiting time also you can only order the gyoza which are delicious there on the second floor. (The Gyoza are not vegan)
google avatar

Michele P.

Yelp
This was the best Tonkatsu ramen we had! Got a recommendation from our tour guide who is a local. They also have an english menu to make it easy to order. You order first when you enter and then they seat you and will bring your food to you. The seating is bar seating. Although the shop is small, people are served and eat relatively quickly so if it's full, you won't have to wait long. They have a mild and a creamy ramen and I would recommend the creamy. It's a heavy broth that's packed with flavor that'll make you drinking the whole bowl. The noodles are good and the toppings are typical for ramen in japan. It's really the broth that makes this place.
google avatar

Khanh L.

Yelp
Wow, The broth was deep, nice flavor and well balanced. The pork was super tender and you can taste the marinade all the way through, and the fat just melted in your mouth. Umami blast!!! The ramen noodles were just right, it was tough but gave easily when you bite it, it softened as you chew it, very good texture, it held up well until the last bite. There is a red scoop of some sort of shrimp paste in the bowl, it does not dissolve and you can smear it as you eat, so you can decide which bite you want shrimp paste on and which you eat without. It was amazing, the shrimp paste really added a nice dimension to all the flavors, and it was all harmonious. As perfect a bowl of ramen as you're ever gonna get :) nb: I know when you look at the pictures these ramen bowls don't look like a pretty bowl of ramen, but just try it, the taste is so much better than what it looks like.
google avatar

Jocelin L.

Yelp
It was one of the good ramen place you should try in tokyo. It can be comparable to ichiran. It has wider variety and different types of soup base. The soft boiled egg its also good.

Yelp
After successfully making our way from Shinjuku to Harajuku, my friend and I were starved and ready for food. I pulled up Yelp and found Kyushu Jangara, and who can say no to ramen in Japan? I was also told about Kyushu Jangara, but the location in Akibahara, so all the more reason to try it. The woman at the cashier taking orders does not speak English, but we were able to order after some hand gestures and broken Japanese on my end. We sat down and got to watch as they made our ramen behind the counter. I think this was the only ramen shop in which we sat at a counter rather than at a table. Loved it! I don't remember exactly which ramen I had but it was likely the spicy tonkotsu one if they had that option. I think it was called the Karabon ramen. Loved it! The broth was creamy and flavorful without being salty. The noodles were perfect -- skinny noodles, which I normally don't like, but yum! I think my friend had one of the miso ramens because her broth was a lot lighter than mine, but also delicious.

Yelp
Stumbled upon Kyushu Jangara in Harajuku while sight seeing and I am so glad that I did. I was a typical confused American but the workers were very helpful. When entering, you must first order then pay. Staff will give you little magnets representing your order and seat you when space is available. You then give the worker your magnet and get ready to slurp your way through the heavenly rich flavored Tonkotsu Ramen. i ordered Tonkotsu C3 which was Tonkotsu with Kakuni, Soft Boiled Egg, and garlic oil. I have NEVER had ramen this amazing in the United States, let alone Hawaii (where I'm from). If you're ever in harajuku, hit this joint up! Trust....you will leave externally satisfied!

Yelp
Awesome yummy ramen including vegan option. Super friendly and hospitable staff who went out of their way to accommodate 10 of us in the quirky and fun small neighborhood shop. A great taste of Tokyo.
google avatar

Yelp
Veggie ramen is available here and you can add more veggies and sides. The servings pretty big. Went twice before dinner crowds so we never had to wait long.

Yelp
This ramen shop specializes in Kyushu style tonkotsu broth ramen. It is located on the busy Omotesando Dori in Harajuku and only a short walk from the JR Harajuku Station or the Tokyo Metro Meiji-Jingumae Station. I got there close to 2:30 pm and there was only one customer inside slurping ramen. This place doesn't utilize the ticket dispenser outside. Instead, there is a lady inside sitting behind a small counter who collects your money. You just have to let her know what you select from the menu, then you pay her and she will issue you a ticket to give to the cook. I selected the Kyushu Jangara. Since there was only one person inside, the bowl of ramen came pretty fast. The broth was very flavourful but on the fatty side. There were two chunks of chashu inside that melted in my mouth. The egg was marinated well and the Kyushu style ramen was al dente, just the way I like it. There were also a few pieces of kikurage, menma and a small scoop of mentaiko in the broth that complemented this bowl of ramen quite well. I will definitely go back and try other menu items.

Yelp
They had very good ramen and drinks. They offer Kaedama which is extra noodle in case you aren't full. I liked this spot alot. Definitely will be visiting again

Yelp
Incredible tonkotsu ramen. Ippudo, hidechan, zundoya, and ichiran have made it to New York - can we have Kyushu Jangara now as well? The main difference I feel is that the ramen broth leans heavier and smokier and is topped with salmon roe. The bowls are heavenly and large sized - please try it, it's amazing! They only accept cash.
google avatar

Yelp
Best ramen in my life! Definitely worth waiting in line for and wouldn't have found this place without Yelp. You have to try this place if you are in Tokyo. I had the veggie ramen and wish I could have it right now.

Yelp
Love this place. Maybe I don't know any better, but even when there's a wait, the line moves fast and I'm never let down by the food. Glad I came back!

Yelp
we were done with shopping in the harujuku district, so we decided we want ramen. when we came in, you order and pay first with the host. he then hands you the ticket for your order. we then find a seat at the ramen bar. at the ramen bar there are lots of condiments infront of me such as pickled veggies, sauces, and hot chili oil. . in less than 5 mins they hand you the bowl of ramen. the broth is very rich in heavy ingredients. so if you run out of noodles, and want more you just tell them. if you want an extra egg just let them know too. then you hand the exact change to them if possible at the bar. it was a neat experience and i felt like i was a real local. . overall the noodle soup was excellent. something i prolly wont find in the states. they also offer vegetarian ramen so fyi. price is decent like under 10 USD. i just love how flexible their menu is with letting you add this and that to create what you like or want. thanks for reading and slurp some more ramen!

Yelp
There was plenty of room (for Japanese standards) for 2 kids and 2 adults. It was very kid friendly. The ramen was pretty good too.

Yelp
I saw this place while walking around Harajuku, so I came back for dinner. I went upstairs to the second floor and ordered with the cashier at the little podium. There are menus in other languages, including English and Korean. I picked their most popular ramen, 1A, which is the ramen with pork, cod roe, and a flavored boiled egg. If you want the egg to be soft-boiled, it costs extra. You pay the cashier and he gives you a token. There was an empty seat right away, so I sat down at the counter and the guy there took my token and have me a glass of ice water. Then a few minutes later, I got my ramen. So good on a cold night. It was pretty tasty. The meat was quite tender, I got two big chunky pieces and two thin slices. The egg was hard-boiled, and I kinda wished I had gone with the soft-boiled egg, but I gotta save my yen for more ramen! Cash only!!! Close to Meiji-jingumae metro station.

Yelp
I read some blogs in order to find some recommendations for good ramen places in Tokyo. Apparently, I didn't do enough research. Kyushu Jangara is okay at best (in Tokyo standards). It's probably about just as good as some of the places I can find in the U.S. In fact, my thoughts were confirmed because I passed by this place several times (including the time I went here to eat), and there were literally no lines and no waits for seating. The other ramen places I went to always had lines, even before opening and and right up to closing times.

Yelp
As a strict Osakan, I don't eat Ramen very often. However, I could not stop myself visiting Jankara Ramen. I ordered Kobonshan with everything, and found myself a big fan of this Ramen immediately. The base was Tonkotsu soup but it was spiced up with garlics. Chashu pork was so soft that you would not need a knife to taste it. Everything was perfectly set up. The noodle would be a little bit too small but you can also order another noodle (Kae-dama) for 150 yen. If you want another noodle, keep your soup for it.

Yelp
Get the garlic oil tonkotsu. Might be the best ramen I've had.

Yelp
I wanted gyoza so we went upstairs where it was calmer. (No gyoza downstairs). I haven't figured out why/how one eats rice with ramen but I ordered the ramen set (with gyoza, rice and pickles) anyway since the portions are smaller. The broth was delicious - flavorful without being too salty or thick. Dumplings were average but hit the spot. Service is great and the restaurant is in a convenient location. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
One of the best ramen I've had in Japan. It's very authentic, despite being so close to the Meiji Shrine, and knew just enough English for my father and I to get by without any assistance. This place is no-frills and very small, which is what made it so special. Pile the add-ons into your ramen and prepare for a delicious, thick, pork broth.

Yelp
All around solid and pleasing with quick service. Not my favorite place for ramen, but it's good...it's just not very clean, practically grungy compared to the other ramen establishments I've visited. Convenient location, but I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Kyushu Jangara has served me the best bowl of ramen in Tokyo so far! Located in Harajuku down the street from the Meiji Shrine, this place is a definite must try if you're in the area or even if you are not! Love the bright, clean and upbeat vibe combined with great service and of course, exceptional ramen! Menu is a bit large and challenging with all the options, but I can say go for the mild flavor ramen or hot and spicy ramen and you're in for a treat! It's awesome in a city where ramen spots are a dime a dozen, to appreciate the subtle differences that separate them apart. I love-love-loved the mild flavor broth (balanced and just the right amount of oil) but what really won my heart was the noodles themselves! Texture was different from what I was used to in the States. Here it is a bit thinner and not too chewy... just perfection!! Be sure to bring cash, and enjoy a meal if you are tired from a long day shopping at Takeshita Street.

Yelp
My first ramen in Japan was here! They are limited in seating, like everyone else in Japan, so spitting up a large group is suggested. We have a group of 10 and I end up sitting with 2 other friends at the bar. Luckily, one of the waiters spoke perfect English and was super helpful when we were ordering. I had the regular broth without the spicy and yum... so rich in flavor! The soft-boiled egg is to die for!! My friend's spicy one wasn't too spicy either, gave it a good kick. It was very filling, and worth every bite. Definitely a good ramen spot to swing by aside from Ichiran! Oh yeah! Make sure you try their spicy veggie condiments - it definitely tastes better than it looks! It went so well with my ramen.. and I crave it now that I wish I had a whole jar with me to eat everything with back home. All their condiments are conveniently located in front of you at the bar or even at a table - it is well stocked all around so you don't have to share with neighbors etc. Also, line gets fairly long at lunch time, so make sure you come before 12pm!

Yelp
This has to be one of the best ramen places I visited in Japan. It is located really close to Harajuku station so it is convenient to visit after getting off of the train. It is also close to Meiji Jingu shrine which is great because we worked up an appetite after walking around. This place is unique because it offers Kyushu style tonkotsu ramen. The particular ramen I ordered had mentaiko in it which I also found unique because none of the other ramen shops I visited had mentaiko in their ramen. At first I was a bit skeptical, since I thought the mentaiko would over cook in the broth but it actually didn't. Breaking up the mentaiko in the broth gave the ramen a heavenly taste! It was a bit spicier, but not overwhelmingly spicy. The broth and noodles together we're a perfect match. I don't normally drink all the soup broth but here it was so tempting! After finishing all the noodles, and knowing I wouldn't get a chance to revisit the shop again soon I decided to add an additional order of noodles to the little bit of broth I had left. The portion I was served was a full regular sized portion! Not only could I have added another portion of noodles, but you basically have the option of rebuilding the entire ramen by purchasing extra orders. They had special going on at the time of order of a free side of roast pork. Even the roast pork was unique and actually tasted like the pork was roasted rotisserie style at the restaurant. The service was very great as most places are in Japan. They also had many beers on tap at nice prices. Can't say enough great things about this place, highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!

Yelp
Finding Vegan/Vegetarian ramen is Japan is not as easy as you would think. Luckily with the help of HappyCow I found Kyushu Jangara. Located on the second floor the resturant is pretty easy to find, multiple signs will show you where it is. As a vegetarian I was super nervous about getting ramen but that's what they specialize in. Luckily there was a vegan option for about $9 and I was able to add a soft boiled egg for another $2. My boyfriend ordered a spicy garlic pork ramen for about $8 as well. We paid at the counter and were instructed to sit at the counter. Within five minutes we had our ramen and it was piping hot! I dug in and was pleasantly surprised to see that unlink ramen in America there were a lot of noodles! The egg was cooked to a perfect soft boil and the broth tasted pretty fresh. My boyfriend really enjoyed his ramen and had never had it before . The garlic broth was awesome but the pork could've and should have been cut a litttle smaller. If you're new to the area check this place out!

Yelp
The food here is actually pretty good. They use chunks of pork instead of the traditional slices, and they have a good variety of soups. If it was just about the food, they would get 4 stars. But they're a bit of a tourist trap and try very hard to make you add upgrades. They're also quite sour faced and curt. I really hope people don't think that all japanese people are like them!
