My friend who is Vegan had been talking about this place and was so happy a Vegan shop had finally opened up in the area. And I had been meaning to check it out since my parents live so close.
Well I finally made the drive. Well. More like I was visiting my parents in the AM and remembered that this place is nearby.
When I came in, there was actually quite a bit of people coming in to buy Vegan donuts! Some were already having their breakfast at the tables! Its nice to see people in the area support local family owned business, especially vegan since there's not many.
Upon walking in, I instantly got this Asian vibe home. If you know, you know. And it turns out, its owned by a Vietnamese family. Husband, wife, daughter at the front, and I'm assuming another family member at the back making magic donuts.
I literally saw them bring out freshly made donuts out on trays. And every tray I saw, my eyes lit up. If you know me, you know that I LOVE Apple Fritters. You can thank my mom for having me growing up on them. And when I saw a fresh batch come out, I immediately told the man, I WANT TWO OF THOSE!! Along with pointing at the bear claw as well. I like that he was concerned cause he saw how hot and also how wet the glaze was on the Apple Fritters, and he didn't want to mess up the bear claw. So he carefully placed them in the box. I like that.
They need bigger shelves! They kept coming out with fresh new batches of donuts and having to replace one tray for another. Each new batch I saw come out, I told them I wanted one. I even got two glazed donuts. I mean, who wouldn't want a fresh glazed donut? That's a classic.
I ended up getting one of each flavor of Old Fashioned Cake donuts, two freshly made Apple Fritters, and two Glazed donuts, and one bear claw. That's a total of 11 donuts and I spent $22. Not bad not bad.
I didn't want to wait so I instantly ate a Glazed donut in the car. You can't even tell a difference that its vegan! It was so good! A little more dense than your average yeast donut but nonetheless, still very good and melt in your mouth good.
But the best part? THE APPLE FRITTER!!! It tasted the same. Crunchy outer layer, soft and melty donut texture on the inside, and tiny bits of apple. Though, I really wish the apple chunks were a lot bigger.
I don't live in the area unless I'm visiting my parents. We normally go to Shipleys, but I think we'll be stopping here from now on. I definitely want to try the kolaches next!
