The Long Beach Restaurant Serving Up Texas-Style Southern Cooking - Eater LA

"In The Kitchen, owned and operated by Nora Tatum, offers Texas-style Southern cooking with a menu that includes fried catfish, fried chicken, slow-cooked oxtails, smothered chicken or pork chops, and sides like candied yams and black-eyed peas. The restaurant, located in the former Crazy Creole Cafe space on Long Beach Boulevard, has adapted to pandemic conditions by serving takeout and delivery. Tatum's cooking, inspired by family recipes, is deeply personal and aims to nourish both body and soul. The restaurant also participates in community upliftment by offering job training and feeding unhoused residents." - Cathy Chaplin

The drunken noodles with house tempeh was delicious!! We randomly found this place and turns out it is a take out only (with limited seating) shared kitchen space with other restaurants within the “Partake Collective” building. We went in and ordered from a kiosk. There was a night market going on as well. You pick up your food from locker boxes or the service worker will bring out to you in the front waiting area. I would recommend management to put out big signs outside with the kitchen names so it’s more clear where to go in. Some other customers were also a bit lost. Other than that I’m a fan of this concept of dining!

I order Vegan Fresh Rolls (a really good appetizer), a Lemongrass Soup (Tom Yum)(a good post meal calmer or stand alone option), and a Garlic and Pepper (really good with the rice mixing). I order my meals with level three spiciness, and House Tempeh. The spices are tingly-hot and flavorful. The Vegan Fresh Rolls are really good especially with the Peanut Sauce though the Peanut Sauce tastes food with the Garlic and Pepper Tofu as well (it's a tasty sauce with a little crunch). This is an UberEATS delivery (within about thirty–forty minutes on a Friday evening), and a purchase with a good discount code. I think the food is worth the actual full price though not all of it is necessary to be full. The food travels very well. I enjoy my meal.

NOT A VEGAN KITCHEN... BE CAREFUL! SAME APPLIES TO ALLERGIES! The kitchen fulfils multiple restaurants orders and lacks basic food hygiene skills and clearly mixed up my order with a non vegan version. I ordered spring rolls and vegan tofu pad thai on their website for collection. The order was ready within 9 minutes and the collection was painless. I was home within 10 minutes and ready to eat The spring rolls were undercooked and bland. They were filled with mainly glass noodles, onion and the odd carrot piece. They weren't crispy and lacked any sort of taste. The pad thai was a colour that oozed lazy cooking and no flavour and when I took my first bite I was proved right. I may aswell have just eaten boiled noodles covered in chilli flakes and no peanuts ( there should have been peanuts). After a few bites it became evident that there was egg in the pad thai. I tried to call them to find out that they have no contact number and I couldn't contact them via their food ordering app. I will try and visit them tomorrow unless they reply to this review and I will provide an update on their customer service. UPDATE: Having visited them during the afternoon, the man at reception was very understanding and relayed the issues to the kitchen. They proceeded to make me a new dish. This time the Pad Thai was probably how it should have been. It was a good portion size with onions, beansprouts, peanuts, chilli flakes and a lime. It had more flavour than the previous dish but still required some additional soy sauce but maybe that's my taste preference. If that was the dish I had received first time around I would have rated it 4 stars. However due to the mix up of ingredients, it still falls below par. I have upped it to ⭐️⭐️ as the return was dealt with well.

Just a heads up! This place is NOT vegan! This place cooks out of kitchen that also serves animal products so if something ends up in your meal that looks like meat - It probably is. I once ordered from here thinking that place was what it in facts market itself as, a vegan kitchen. I ended up getting an accidental order that had chicken in it instead. I had an extensive talk with the owner that it should notify its patrons they also cook in a kitchen that serves animal products. When you say your a vegan restaurant, patrons that are actually plant based dont need to worry about these mix ups. Anyway, just be aware that you can end up with a meal that has meat in it.

I used to work for a Thai restaurant and honestly I saw the review about the egg that needs to be disclosed on their menu fer sure especially if your advertising VEGAN. The other one about waiting 45mins for their food... dude chill...the food is fire. I wanna say THIS is the closest thing I've been able to find out here AND it's vegan. Only thing is less lime in the Tom Kha and you're killin' it!!!! I ordered on UberEats and had to wait a little but but it was still hot when I go my food AND it was AMAZING!! WORTH THE WAIT! I ordered: *Tom Kha *Spring rolls (which came with edible flowers in them! so cute!) w/peanut sauce * Mango Sticky rice- (1st time ever) *Peanut sauce ( not bad for being vegan)

BEWARE!! GHOST KITCHEN WITH NO WAY TO CALL AND MODIFY ORDER! THEY DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO MODIFY ORDER OR MAKE ADJUSTMENTS, THERE IS NO NUMBER TO CALL AND FOOD WILL BE MADE HOWEVER THEY DEEM TO MAKE IT, NOT LIKE YOU WANT. WILL NEVER ORDER FROM HERE AGAIN.

It took them 45 minutes to bring me my food after I was notified that it was ready. Then they had an attitude with me because I was frustrated because of the wait. No apologies nothing bad customer service. I wouldn't order from them again
