The 15 Best Vegan Restaurants in Tokyo, Japan | Eater

"The Asakusa neighborhood is deeply associated with tempura (most of which is decidedly non-vegan), including tendon — a rice bowl topped with freshly fried tempura, a beloved Japanese soul food. Arrive early to snag one of the five sought-after vegan tendons available each day at this riverside spot. Meant to be good for the “mind, body, and planet,” all dishes at this friendly joint are gluten-, garlic-, and alcohol-free, including curries and the well-balanced daily lunch plate (which also includes tempura), available if you don’t manage to snag the tendon. The restaurant also opens early for breakfast several days a week, offering vegan versions of chicken and waffles, particularly pleasant if you manage to get the table by the window that offers a view of the Skytree." - Chiara Terzuolo

We had a lovely meal at Marugoto Vegan Dining Asakusa. The staff were super friendly, the atmosphere was lovely and we felt very happy supporting the business. The curry was a warming, nostalgia inducing dish - one that evokes being welcomed home by your family or a loved one after a long trip away. It was nourishing, healthy and flavoursome. Would recommend to those looking for a comforting and hearty dish in a chilled & welcoming environment

Absolutely amazing food and very friendly and English friendly service. It’s so good I am planning on coming back same day for dinner. I am not vegan and this is the best curry I have had on the entire trip. So you must try it. The sweet potato donut was so good as well we should have ordered several of them. They have alcohol and non alcoholic drink options of all types as well.

What a wonderfully cozy spot for a soulful lunch! The kids enjoyed a special kids' plate, while I had the lunch plate and my husband opted for the curry rice with tempeh. The curry was flavorful without being overwhelming. The children absolutely devoured the ice cream (especially the chocolate) and the rice flour pancakes. The service was warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere felt so inviting. We left with full tummies and happy hearts!

Super cute vegan place. They speak a fair bit of English which made things easy for me. I have been back 3 times this week for, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've had a few curries, waffles, salads (I don't know what is in the organic carrot dressing but its addictive) sweet potato donuts, and their banna bred. Also, they make good coffee. Check them out! You won't regret it.

The staff can speak Chinese and English, this helps in communication. They inform of 1 hour allowance for dining and check for any allergens. I had tempura curry rice, it’s good and finished it. Still have allowance for dessert so order sweet potato donut. It’s hot and nice, freshly done. The picture of the donut is with 2 bites by me of course. Thanks.

Small, not a lot of seating but AC and cozy. Delicious avocado curry and they give you chili to make it spicier. Might lack gluten and animal products (gluten free and vegan) but does not lack taste.

Stumbled upon this place in search of a gluten free, health conscious meal. We felt like we hit the jackpot. The staff was incredibly kind and sweet, they spoke English & Spanish (and Japanese, of course!). Service was quick, we were very hungry! The food was delicious and we were impressed with the intentional impotence of gluten, oils, sugar. The ice cream was delicious! And gluten free waffles?! Amazing! Would love to return for more!

A wonderful gluten free and vegan lunch. We walked in at noon on a Tuesday and got in without a reservation. It was delicious and healthy. My daughter had the curry with tempeh (best) — my husband had the lunch plate (good) — and I had the avocado topped curry (second best). The carrot salad dressing was nicely balanced. The ice cream was just okay - matcha better than the chocolate. For the waffles, the plain was better than the chocolate. Kind servers.
