Essential Breakfast Spots of the Jersey Shore | Eater Philly

"The Vegas Diner in North Wildwood has been serving up culinary dishes to locals and tourists since 1979. Stop by the diner for breakfast and dive into classics and new creations, such as the cheese omelet, egg and pork roll sandwich, cannoli-stuffed waffle, and avocado benedict." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Food is freshly made. Portions are generous and prices are not outrageous, especially in this economy. Service is pleasant and not intrusive. Parking on site, credit cards accepted, and an ATM on premises.

Kenny Campbell

Google
The Vegas Diner is a solid stop if you're passing through Wildwood. The classic and cozy atmosphere, friendly and professional staff, and delicious food does not disappoint. My caramel cold brew drink hit the spot after a long night on the town, and my BLT with home fries was simple and cooked to perfection.

Google
Eaten here year after year and have always enjoyed the food. I don’t think they have the best pancakes but it’s fine enough for what they are. Breakfast sausage is really good and there’s a menu option for anyone.

Google
I know we have alot of diners in New Jersey but this is by far the best I've ever been too! The food was great and the service was perfect! Prices are very reasonable considering how expensive things are when you're at the beach on vacation! I definitely recommend a visit here.

Google
We've been going there for probably 20 years, and I would say, hands down, Vegas is the best Diner in all of the d Wildwoods, and probably Cape May county. We never had a bad meal, the staff is friendly and attentive and the food is top notch. What more could you ask for?

G. Funk

Google
A nice diner to catch a bite to eat with the family! The menu is extensive and offers the usual diner fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The seafood platters are especially delicious. The help yourself salad bar is large and well stocked. We love stopping here for a bite to eat when vacationing in the Wildwoods.

Google
Nice dinner , clean and the food was good. We got the deluxe cheese burgers. It was done just right. The waitress was friendly and good. They have a huge salad bar. Don't see that much anymore. Although I didn't get the salad bar I went to look at what was available. It was huge and fully loaded. The potato salad must have been good cause I saw people going back for more! The price was reasonable and the portions were big!

Google
We had breakfast this morning, breakfast sandwich with cheese and pork roll, and two eggs with pork roll and home fries with each. The service was fast, food seemed to come almost instantly and everything tasted great! We also loved how well decorated the diner was! Would recommend

Yelp
Gluten free options and awesome service at the Vegas Diner Excellent, excellent, excellent. The Vegas diner was a wonderful place to have breakfast. My mom and I were on vacation for a little girls' trip, and we LOVE to eat good food and meet good people. Service is extremely important! The Vegas diner checked all of our boxes! Dmitri welcomed us into the very warm diner on a 25 degree day, and we were so excited to sit down. Our server, Aphrodite, was very kind and even though it was her first couple of days, she really knew what she was doing. She was attentive and kind. Then we met Furcan, who came around to keep our coffee hot with a smile. The food was delicious, with gluten free breads available. I had gluten free french toast and it was out of this world. Their eggs were great, and coffee was delicious. I think above all else, the service was incredible, and all of the people seemed really happy to work at Vegas diner. My mom and I highly recommend it and have nothing but good things to say about the staff, the management, and our meal.

Yelp
We visited the Vegas Diner for the first time Saturday evening. The atmosphere was nice and the wait staff did a great job. I ordered the 14oz chopped steak diner. I had a very nice salad from their excellent salad bar. However, the chopped steak was over-cooked (no Pink) and a bit dry. The Penne ala vodka was also ordered. The sauce was disappointing as it was more marinara then a vodka sauce. It may be awhile before we will revisit.

Yelp
I've been enjoying breakfast at the Vegas Diner for many years - going back to 1986! While on vacation this week we had their delicious breakfast omelettes which never disappoint. We were seated near the salad bar which looked so good that we decided we would go back for dinner as well. First time having anything other than breakfast, and it will not be the last! The salad bar was as good as it looked and possibly the best potato salad I've ever had! French Onion soup was mediocre. The scallops were as good as any seafood restaurant, but more affordable with a generous portion! Our server was excellent! Update: We went for dinner a second time and once again, it was fantastic! We had the stuffed flounder and the tilapia, both were delicious! And another excellent server! The rest of the staff are pleasant as well and the restaurant is clean and well maintained. I wish we had diners as good as the Vegas where I live.

Yelp
Service was quick and friendly. Food was very good. We were in and out quickly on a Saturday morning. They have a parking lot which is great too!

Yelp
Such a cute and charming place. Much bigger than it looks from the outside. Service was amazing. Food was so good. Very clean. Will visit again.

Joanne E.

Yelp
Was there last week, think the waitress was new. Also she not from the area & we had our grandson with us. She didn't get the meal correct & doesn't know how to work with kids for a diner.
google avatar

Yelp
If I'm being honest, I was really skeptical of this place, I've been to a few diners recently that had a nostalgic façade but the food cheap and more like Denny's. This place turned out to be excellent! The prices were reasonable and most entrees included the salad bar. I got the Maryland crab soup, a cup was only $5 and WOW was that a great deal. The soup had soooo much crab in it and it was overall just a really tasty soup. Another highlight was the number of sides you get with entrees in addition to the salad bar. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Had the cannoli French toast and it was perfect. The cold brew lattes are also really good as well. All the wait staff were really nice and accommodating too.

Elaine L.

Yelp
Had breakfast here while staying in Wildwood. Off season is nice and quiet but few choices for food. The service was attentive but the food lacked flavor. The hash browns were beyond boring. Just potatoes off the grill, no flavor whatsoever. The pancakes had a nice taste but very dense. The best was the coffee which was kept refilled. Don't think we'd be desperate enough to return.
google avatar

Yelp
the food was very yummy i got a waffle and creamed chip beef, maybe the best i ever had. I would todaly recommend coming here 10/10

Yelp
Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Doesn't matter bring your appetite. Excellant food, Managers always friendly even on the busiest days. A must try.

Yelp
Precisely what it's supposed to be. The Vegas Diner is dripping in unforced nostalgia and charm. Friendly staff, great service, and plenty of classics on the menu. That makes for a spot-on diner experience for me. I opted for a greek salad with chicken. I wouldn't change a thing. The chicken was seasoned well and cooked nicely, the greens were fresh, the salad dressing was great and the grape leaves were delicious. I also had a wedge of a chicken and avocado quesadilla, and that was also tasty. Would absolutely recommend.

Yelp
We had a really good breakfast here. I ordered a western omelette with tomatoes on the side and my friend ordered A scrambled egg and sausage bagel sandwich with home fries on the side. My omelette was excellent, hit the spot; eggs were fluffy and veggies were flavorful and delicious. The bagel sandwich was perfect with nice spiced sausage, fluffy eggs and crisped to perfection home fries. Our server was so friendly and nice and made suggestions and gave me non-carb options for my omelette. Overall, the place is nice, clean, and the food is great

Yelp
The Vegas Diner is an iconic location for breakfast, lunch or dinner while in the Wildwood's at the center of town. It was probably built in the late 1960's or early & 70's, as the decor has remained virtually the same. Family run and operated, I ate their yesterday for breakfast and had the Mushroom Omelette with Home Fries and white toast. The service is fast as I sat at the counter. The place was extremely busy in that there was a line to pay your bill which indicates business is good and the summer season has commenced here at the Jersey Shore. Seeking a Jersey style, breakfast lunch or dinner? The Vegas Diner is a logical stop should you be vacationing or visiting The Wildwood's this summer season. Family friendly, you can't go wrong on the price or the value. RECOMMEND!

John C.

Yelp
Food was fantastic, I had chicken parm. The portion was so large that I had to bring half home with me. The young man that served me and my wife, was very attentive to our needs. The Diner is a classic Diner decor, with christian music playing in the background. The food was fantastic, the service was fantastic, I would definitely recommend this establishment to my friends, and will definitely be going back.

Yelp
Top notch diner. Always heard great things so decided to give it a shot for breakfast this morning. I was solo and sat at the counter. Place is extremely clean and comfortable. Had excellent service throughout the meal. I believe the server's name was Eliana(?). Thank you! Food is what it's all about and the meal was excellent. I'm very particular and I have high expectations when it comes to my diner breakfasts. My omelet, home fries, rye toast and side of bacon were all cooked to absolute perfection. That's rare and was much appreciated. Great experience. Looking forward to going back real soon.

Gavin C.

Yelp
The worst experience I have ever had. The waiter giving dirty looks and might have put laxatives in my drink/food. After got home from eating there couldn't stop pooping for the sake of my life. DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE. I hope you take my advice.

Yelp
Speedy service, great breakfast options to choose from, omelette and home fries were amazing. In and out in 30 minutes!

Wendy G.

Yelp
Hands down the best breakfast in the Wildwoods! The restaurant is spotless, service is friendly and efficient, and the food is consistently delicious! They were able to accommodate our party of 20 with a phone call a few minutes ahead of arrival. We were seated immediately and our entire order came out together, hot and not one mistake!! Bravo!!!

Yelp
I went in to order a Greek salad to go. Everyone was super nice inside, but when I got home the Greek salad did not have stuffed grape leaves! I called twice to tell them and no one would pick up the phone. Pay 15 bucks and no grape leaves, which the menu has listed as an ingredient.

Yelp
Old school, classic and great diner. We went as a team for a pregame breakfast before a holiday tournament, calling to let them know we would be arriving en masse in about 45 minutes. They were super helpful, providing us with no wait and a relatively private room. Our waiter was terrific, doing a great job of getting all the orders right, keeping juice and coffee cups filled. My cajun omelette with home fries was awesome. We would absolutely come back. Thanks for a great meal!

Alex T.

Yelp
Been coming here for 20+ years. Food always comes out fast and hot, service is good. There's something for everyone here, and it's a North Wildwood staple.

Michael F.

Yelp
My wife had a 10%-off coupon. I paid our $200-check for the 11 people in our party, with CASH. My wife gave me the coupon within 10 seconds of my having paid our check with CASH. I hadn't even left the cashier counter. I IMMEDIATELY told the diner's female owner, who was also standing right there at the cashier's counter. She said it was too late and that she can do nothing. I subsequently asked the diner's male owner. He was extremely rude and said giving me the $20 would screw-up their computer. An argument ensued that ended when a police officer intervened, just as the owner finally handed me a twenty-dollar bill and told me to never come back. (He need not worry; I certainly will never return.) Neither owner has any business sense or knows how to treat the customer.

Yelp
We ate here a couple weeks ago when we were in town. It was one of the only places open, and wow was my family glad. We enjoyed our first experience we went there a second time the next day. The table service was fantastic. We really enjoyed the Boston cream French toast and the chocolate chip pancakes are some of the most flavorful we have had. We will definitely be back!

John C.

Yelp
I had the best lobster dinner (3 large lobster tails) in my life. I never thought I would ever eat 3 tails in my lifetime. But these were so-o-o delicious they disappeared before I realized I had eaten them. Further, the service were excellent. Ate there twice and service was exceptional both times! The diner was very crowded both times. And the prices were very reasonable both times. We live in a different state but we would go back to Cape May for another meal at Vegas Diner.

Yelp
Very popular diner and with that set they move pretty quickly . We were told for a party of two it would be an 15min wait. Let me tell you I think we waited 5 mins. Everyone one was so nice n friendly. The place was very clean . The food was so good!!!! Next time we come to wildwood we will definitely stop here !! Give it five stars

Chantal G.

Yelp
Went in the off season and it was still pretty busy, as it was mostly locals...that's a good sign. Solid service, and the breakfasts were above average diner selections. Even the prices were relatively fair. I'd return.

Anna Marie S.

Yelp
The food, service and ambiance is excellent. I've gone here for years and they have never disappointed. I've had breakfast, lunch and dinners with family and friends for many years. It is my go to place. Highly recommended. Kudos to the chefs and staff. They know hire to run a business and take care off they're customers.

Yelp
My friend and I really enjoyed our brunch here this past weekend. We usually make it here every summer during our all year high school reunion weekend. I had the breakfast combo, and my pancakes were delicious, my eggs were made perfectly medium, the bacon was crispy, and my rye bread was deliciously smothered in butter. My friend really enjoyed her waffle with strawberries and whipped cream on the side. The place was very busy but we were seated in the time frame they said and our waiter was very attentive. Everyone seemed to be working extremely hard from management on down.

Jeb J.

Yelp
We live about an hour from the Vegas Diner, but that doesn't stop us from making the trip!! Always an excellent meal, plentiful, hot and delicious. I am very picky about my creamed chip beef and home fries, I've tried many various diners. None compare to Vegas Diner!! Delicious food at a fair price!!

Yelp
I've been coming to the Vegas diner for nearly 15 years. It's consistent and good and you will love it. For me it's one of the best values at the beach. Huge portions. You won't leave hungry. Great comfort food in a pleasant diner setting. Service is top notch. The menu is huge. The salad bar is a nice touch . Kids to seniors love this place. Breakfast is a dream. Fabulous hot coffee! They have at least 15 lunch specials listed on their placemats. Yes you heard that right they still have placemats. That's a nice old-school touch that allows you to keep your utensils together on a clean table. I absolutely love their soups. And the many times that I have dined here for dinner have been pleasurable. They also participate in North Wildwood's restaurant week ** Family run and it shows! You know the place is great When it's half full at 7:30 and totally full by 7:45 on a dreary, misty Saturday morning like today. I am Never disappointed here.
google avatar

Marie E.

Yelp
Been there many times through the years. Always satisfied. Recently had dinner there & was very good. The salad bar was impressive. Fresh & clean & very inclusive. Would highly recommend for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! The service was good, however server didn't explain where the salad bar was located I had to ask. With all new vacationers coming in, it should be second nature to a server to point this out to customers. That is reason for 4 & not 5 stars.

Barbara C.

Yelp
my absolute favorite go to place in Wildwood. the service is awesome and everyone there does a fabulous job of taking care of us. never had a bad meal breakfast, lunch or dinner... and what a bang for your book with all if the food you get with dinner... it will always be my favorite place!!!
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
Busy place, okay food, mediocre service (quick but inaccurate). Okay in a pinch, but no need to revisit.

Ed V.

Yelp
Vacationing in cape may early may and found this diner for early dinner. Food was pretty awesome and the service was great by Jeff our waiter. Cost was slightly pricey but honestly everything is right now. If ur in the area i would recommend the vegas diner. Ps - we (4) had wraps with fries and chicken orzo soups as well as desserts. All tasted very good and presented well. Ambiance is as one expect as a diner. Staff all seemed friendly as well.

Dan M.

Yelp
Horrible hostess with bad attitude. I ended up walking out as if she's that bad what could the actual staff be like. Found a little cafe called key west cafe. My new place to go to

Yelp
Recently I found myself in Wildwood, NJ. Wildwood has several diners that I never seem to get too because they are seasonal or only open for lunch. When the opportunity presented itself to go, I took it. Atmosphere: The Vegas Diner looks like what you would think a "Vegas Diner" to look like. There is plenty of metallic and glam inside. When I arrived on Saturday for lunch, it wasn't too crowded. I sat in a small booth. Coffee: The Vegas Diner serves Lacas coffee, which is my favorite. It's brewed locally in NJ. Food: When I arrived around 11, I was hoping to get lunch. Sadly, they didn't serve lunch yet, and the salad bar wasn't ready. I was disappointed because it's hard to find diners with salad bars! After the waitress said lunch wasn't yet an option, I decided to order steak and eggs. You can never go wrong with that a NJ diner. I decided to sub the hash browns with a fruit cup. When it came out, the eggs were fluffy, and the steak was cooked perfectly (I like medium rare). The fruit cup was one of the best fruit cups I've had. In all, my meal was great, but I was disappointed they didn't serve lunch at 11. Service: The waitress was friendly and nice and refilled our beverages. My food came out fast too. Overall Thoughts/Summary: I liked the Vegas Diner, and I would love to come back at lunch or dinner because their menu looks great.

Yelp
Great spot to grab a bit to eat highly recommend the Nutella French toast and Chipotle burger!

Yelp
I made a spur of the moment decision to drive down to the beach for the morning and get breakfast while there. I had seen the Vegas Diner many times in passing, but had never stopped in. I am very glad I did this time! It was probably one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The coffee was great and constantly refilled. I ordered scrambled eggs with a side of ham, I chose a bagel instead of toast and added an order of sliced avocado. The food was extremely good and the service was friendly and fast. I even ate the home fries, which I usually don't care about at all. I wish I'd looked at more of the menu for next time!
google avatar

Rob M.

Yelp
Had dinner here for the first time this past weekend. I had an avocado BLT. It was pretty good but my unsweetened Iced Tea tasted a little odd. All in all the experience was ok. I would go again to try something else on the menu...
google avatar

David E.

Yelp
It was good . Nj style dinner good portions good service like 4 block off the boardwalk but worth the trip ..
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Eggs Benedict was delicious, but the home fries were not. Just mashed potatoes warmed up on a griddle. No flavor, very bland.
google avatar

Meghan R.

Yelp
We were vacationing in the area and passed this diner almost everyday and it was always crowded! So one our last day we figured to give it a shot before heading home. They estimated a 15 minute wait and were offering inside and outside seating. We were seated around 20 minutes. Our waitress was super friendly and greeted us right away and thanking us for waiting. We ordered right away since we had a chance to check out the menu while waiting. I did the combo of hot cakes with eggs and bacon- comes with OJ. And my boyfriend did a bacon omelette. The negative here was that it took about 40 minutes for our food to come out. The waitress kept apologizing but we heard other tables also complaining about the food taking so long. Diners are supposed to be a quick service restaurant but I noticed the host seating people one after another that I'm assuming the kitchen got slammed. Because by the time we left there was no wait outside, of course! My bacon was very fatty but the rest of the food was good.

Yelp
Love Vegas diner. For dining in and take-out. Food is AMAZING and service great! Highly recommend Vegas Diner

Yelp
I've been to many diners and restaurants in my lifetime. The Vegas Diner is second to none!! Great food, friendly staff, awesome service. And a spectacular soup & salad bar to boot!! Never visit the Wildwoods without visiting the Vegas Diner!!

Yelp
Always good food served quickly. Responsive on site owners who actually care.

Yelp
Hands down the best diner on the island. Has huge breakfast menu and dinners are fabulous. lots of specials and great salad bar. if salads aren't your thing, try the daily soup. ..always delicious. The Vegas has been my families go to place for years and we are locals. Almost forgot to mention , the portions are well worth the already reasonable prices.
