Phoenix’s Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants | Eater Phoenix

"While Veggie Village touts itself as southeast Asian vegetarian cuisine, it’s a great option for even the most carnivorous friends thanks to extensive and inclusive menu that offers Beyond burgers alongside vegetarian versions of Asian favorites, such as battered sweet and sour shrimp, and orange chicken. While the restaurant is vegetarian, any dish on the menu can also be made vegan for dairy-free diners." - McConnell Quinn

I’ve been to this plaza several times for other businesses, but I never saw this restaurant! I am so glad I tried it out! The taste of “chicken” is so on point that I kept questioning my friend if this place is really vegetarian. Oh my!! It’s soo good! I took a bite of the mutton curry, but I found it to be bland. I do have to say I love my curry super spicy (like burning my tongue) though. I do have to say that because of too much grease, the bottom of the rice in the clay pot is not crispy. I wish they can improve on that. The service is smooth. Wait time for the dishes is just right. I went on a weekday, so there was no wait time for a table. They also have a tucked in, more private area for a small party if needed. I also tried the honeydew juice, which is very refreshing. If this place is closer to where I live, I would pick this over a boba tea.

We have been here 3 times now and have not had a bad dish! Some of our favorites have been the pot stickers, wonton soup, orange chicken and general tso chicken. Everyone has always been very helpful and nice. Everything made is made Vegan!

I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while and I’m very glad I did today. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean it was inside and how caring the people working there are. The food was fantastic and there are plenty of options for everyone. The cream cheese crab wontons were so tasty! Has a very mom and pap feel and I loved it! If you’ve been considering checking it out do yourself a favor and just go try it.

Google
Omg so good. I live a few blocks away and I am just trying this place, and I can’t believe I waited so long. Everything I tried was delicious, and I am convinced the spicy noodle soup that I had got me better and cleared up my sinuses from the cold I had—legit one of my new cold remedies. Also, my five-year-old wanted to mention how much she loved her fried rice, wontons, and fries. Also, the prices were great for the amount of food you get and everyone was soooo kind.

Google
Very friendly and helpful staff! Fantastic vegan food and drinks. Highly recommend the salt and pepper shrimp and the honeydew juice with chia seeds.

Google
Clean &Basic diner-style pickup and sitdown restaurant with vast menu of vegan and vegetarian options for appetizers or meals. Delicious too. Staff\owners are friendly and knowledeable about the entires menu. Prices are moderate and reasonable. We had the yummy vegan beef&broc and fried 'shrimp and the edemami.

Marie R.

Google
Incredibly friendly, accommodating owners and staff. Tasty, clean food without overcooking the vegetables 🥕 🥦.

Google
The path thai was delicious but they put only 3 tiny pieces of tofu. My plate was almost only noodles. It was disappointing because I’ve ordered this dish in a lot of places and it always comes with a well balanced amount of tofu and noodles. Not more noodles than tofu if that makes sense. I’m disappointed. I loose my money here. Definitely not going back.

Yelp
I am far from a vegetarian and we tried this place tonight, the service was impeccable and the food was amazing!!!! It surprised me and I will be back! I want to try all the things. I had the salt and pepper shrimp. My wife had the salt and pepper eggplant and added the sweet and spicy sauce on the side (do that!). We had the jap chae (so good) and my coworker go the general tsos chicken. Everything was flavorful and wonderful.

Yelp
Oh, Veggie Village, it's been too long!! I have been pescatarian for over 2 1/2 years now and I have not come back to this restaurant since eight years ago. Why, I have no idea, but I finally came today to order takeout, and I ordered the lettuce wraps, the salt and pepper, shrimp, and the general tso chicken. The food was incredibly delicious! Where have I been!? My husband and I were very happy and will make sure we come back more often. They offer vegetarian and vegan options which is a huge plus.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant with delicious fresh vegan dishes and excellent prices! I had the Yu-Xiang eggplant and tofu entree and the hot and sour soup. Such generous portions and both so delicious! I would have loved both of them to be more spicy, but otherwise they were prepared perfectly. My server was super nice and I enjoyed talking with her. Wish they had a location in the east valley!

Yelp
A consistent fav of mine! When the other veggie village location closed, I was happy to find this one still open! This place doesn't lean on heavy fake meats or oily sauces. They can be spice heavy but they're happy to cut it down if you request. Everything tastes bright, crisp, and lively. The fresh Vietnamese roll is a wonderful combo inside as it has greens so fresh they snap, and the peanut dressing although not gluten free is savory and packed with flavor. Always leave feeling energized and full in my stomach and heart every time instead of weighed down -- which can be rare after eating out. My favorite is the vegan Singapore fried rice noodle and my partner loves the vegan sesame chicken. I always ask for a full glass of water at the table because their food makes me drink water for some reason perhaps due to more spice than I'm used to. Super friendly, sweet and knowledgeable women servers. Highly recommend! 071025

Yelp
We love Veggie Village. They offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free meals. The staff is friendly, the food is carefully prepared and never disappoints.

Yelp
Tofu Cajun pho lovely flavors very natural and calming during the cold weather some hot jasmine tea on the side very blended taste this place feels very soothing and has calming music very good place 10/10 recommend
google avatar

Corey H.

Yelp
The best part was the summer rolls, which were light and healthy. The peanut sauce was just tasty enough. The pot stickers were also fairly decent, though not memorable. With these 2 dishes, I'd probably have given a 4 star, though maybe 5 to be nice. The kung pao was really not good. They somehow convinced me to go 50:50 with mushrooms, and I was expecting regular mushrooms. These mushrooms were like a heart attack in a bowl--just loads of fried doughy unhealthiness. Veggie Village sounds like a healthy place, so why feed people this? It was so bad that I didn't eat a single one. I picked at the rest, but it wasn't good, so left most of it over. At that point, I guess it didn't matter that they didn't provide forks or napkins with my order.

Yelp
My goodness! Now... I saw the photos and said this looks just like the food I used to eat when I ate meat... let me see how good it is. First of all, everything on the menu sounds delicious. I got the General Tso Chicken and that first bite... oh my. It had a good crunch on it and then went tender and the flavor... ON POINT! If I was staying in AZ longer, I would have gone back and tried all the things. The drinks are also delicious. I grabbed a pink passion. Since I dined in, I had to control my food dancing but trust me when I say you need to visit this spot. Seems like they do a lot of to-go orders but sitting inside is peaceful. When I came in I was greeted and seated instantly. The staff was very attentive. I also appreciated the level of care around cleanliness. This will be a stop every time I'm in town. Any wait to bring a travel buddy with me.

John T.

Yelp
Great food and service, love the mission statement. Sampled two of the entrees today, will be back often to try more.

Mark P.

Yelp
Simply excellent, healthy, fresh, and great tasting food! The fact that's also cruelty-free is just icing on the cake. Only negative is that it sometimes gets a hair crowded because they're so busy (especially on weekends), but it's worth the visit. Highly recommended:-)
google avatar

Christine T.

Yelp
If you are looking for vegan food, this is the place. It's a small place, but it's cute inside. The service is fast and they have a nice variety of dishes to choose from.
google avatar

Ash P.

Yelp
So excellent! We love Veggie Village. Easy, always fast, and great friendly service! Our favorites are the wontons and sesame chicken. The entrees well sized. I've not yet tried their noodles but the curries are also good. As a longtime vegan I love having a spot we can go to that has plenty of great options and we will be longtime regulars for sure.
google avatar

Donna M.

Yelp
This is my first time at Veggie Village. It's around the corner from my job and I was told the food was really good, so I decided to try it. On Wednesdays they have a special all noodle and fried rice 20% off. I got the protein noodles a little on the spicy side. It was amazing with soybean shrimp, beef, peppers, mushrooms and the spice was perfect! This will be my new spot to try different meals on Wednesdays.
google avatar

Tamerra F.

Yelp
This location was just delicious! I like that I did not have to be concerned with asking is there was any meat products in the menu! As a vegetarian all was safe to choose from! Staff is friendly and meals came quick. Repeat for me!
google avatar

Laz C.

Yelp
4.5 Stars Veggie Village is the best collective of vegetarian or vegan option when you're looking for Asian food in the Phoenix area. Some options are also available in gluten free. They are very observant on how to prepare your meal. They have my trust when I place my order at Veggie Village. The best thing besides the food is the great service! The only bad thing I can say about Veggie Village is the parking lot situation.
google avatar

Kathryn L.

Yelp
I just love Veggie Village's concept of creative, aromatic & delicious Asian Plant Based food. I have my go-to favorites: *Crispy Salt & Pepper Fish *Combo Lo Mien *Dumplings *Freshly made Cucumber-Mint Lemonade I promised myself the next time I would expand my palate & try something else. You can not beat the prices for the portion & each time I order from here whether Take Out or Delivery, I'm never disappointed. Highlighting the customer service - if you have a question about your order, a friendly voice from the restaurant eagerly assists.
google avatar

Jack D.

Yelp
Great food!! Only downside is, and it's a downside: please crank the AC down some, it's not so great eating dinner when it's 80 degrees inside, so show me where the Nest thermostat I'd and let me have at it. The hot and sour soup is very good. Wish the iced tea came unsweetened also.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious vegan Asian cuisine One of our favorites when we are visiting Arizona. The ladies there were so sweet and friendly. Great place to eat
google avatar

Crystal C.

Yelp
Our salon recently moved next door to veggie village and I am EXCITED! I've tried many things here already and the beyond burger is prepared in a most delicious way. Whether you dine in or grab take out, the food is prepared with love and served in a lovely presentation. I am so grateful to work next door to a place that serves delicious, healthy and beautiful food. And the staff is absolutely delightful! Give them a try! You'll love it!
google avatar

Ben H.

Yelp
I don't need a Crystal ball to tell me that I'm going to be a regular at veggie village. As a strict vegan, I find it difficult ordering at many restaurants. The typical "American" restaurant just doesn't get it. I ordered the orange peel chicken. I honestly, have no idea what the vegan substitute was. Tofu maybe? But let's just say, it tasted "just like chicken". The meal was definitely on the lighter side, so my tank wasn't completely full. Thought about a vegan cookie for desert but didn't pull the trigger. Next time !

Yelp
Veggie village is go to favorite for Malaysian Chinese vegetarian food! This is the third time we've been here. Didn't like all the dishes tried this time but I've loved their flavors when the dishes are right. For my own reference, need to remember to ask for LESS SALT and SAUCE ON THE SIDE for fried dishes. This time, tried village fried rice, yuxiang eggplant, stir fry flat noodle, tom yum fish, and hot&sour soup TO GO for pickup. 1. Village fried rice - interesting green fragrance that tastes bit stale like the old plastic oil of the storage container that it could be held in, but I'm not sure if this is the seasoning original flavor as my wife says she's tasted this flavor before in Malaysia. Wouldn't order again for myself. 2. Yuxiang eggplant - standard delicious black pepper taste with tofu. Def would get again. 3. Stir fry flat noodle - tastes like pad see ew, good flavoring, more mild flavors compared to other dishes ordered this time. 4. Tom yum fish - love the flavor profiles of the sour sweet salty of tom yum. When ordering TO GO, order the SAUCE ON THE SIDE. We forgot to this time so the fish breading was soggy. It should be a standard option for TO GO. Def would get again while dining in or to go with sauce on the side. 5. Hot & sour soup - not my favorite but my wife says it tastes pretty good for hot & sour soup.

Yelp
Salt and pepper fish, orange chicken, brown rice yum. I like the atmosphere and of course the food. I approve of this space and excellent customer service.
google avatar

Eddie N.

Yelp
Every week, I come to this place to try something new. Everything I have tried has been wonderful. The food comes out quickly. The weight staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Sometimes it's a bit hot so be ready to wait a little bit to let it cool down. I cannot recommend this place more.
google avatar

Theresa T.

Yelp
Hidden gem in a nondescript strip mall. Food was amazing and priced just right! I will be back.
google avatar

Jimmie F.

Yelp
If you're ever in the phoenix area and looking for an Asian vegan restaurant this is your place. Everything tastes like the real thing but it's all plant based. The restaurant is kinda hidden but well worth it. This will be my new favorite vegan restaurant. This place is healthy down to them not selling soda. The teas are really good.
google avatar

Kathleen F.

Yelp
Very happy I was able to make it out here today to try! I was in the area due to a work meeting and a coworker and we decided to get some lunch after the meeting. I am vegetarian and she has diabetes so we found veggie village and knew it would be great for us both having healthier options. Omg I was not disappointed and will definitely come back when in the area again! I love having and seeing more vegan options in the valley We got the cream cheese wontons which we're absolutely amazing and really gave the impression of crab which was impressive. I got the sweet and sour chicken and it was just perfect, enough to fill me up from the meeting but not too much where I felt bloated the rest of the work day.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Love this place! My favorite vegan dish so far is the Kung Pao Chicken. Soooo good! Sides, edamame and house spring rolls. This place is always clean and the staff are very friendly. Food has been spot on every single time.
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
Very good vegetarian chinese food. Amazing that the proteins look and taste like the real thing....shrimp & chicken actually taste and look like the real thing. Food was very good & would definitely come back for vegetarian food. Small place to dine in, only a few tables, orders came out very quickly.

K G.

Yelp
For vegetarians and vegan foodies, this is a perfect place! Where else can you try the vegan versions of the "Sweet and Sour Chicken" or the "General Tso's Chicken"?! There are the traditional tofu dishes that you could get at any decent asian restaurant, but what sets this place apart are the "Shrimp" and "Fish" dishes and the batter fried "chicken" that is used in both the above listed dishes. We LOVE IT!!! There are two locations in the valley and I highly recommend both these locations. It is a family-owned restaurant and the service is great, restaurant is clean and you can also peek into the kitchen which seems clean. Of course, you can usually tell a restaurant by the cleanliness of its restroom and this one more than passes the minimum threshold. While we were there, a constant trail of online orders were coming in and people following to pick them up. You should try them too!
google avatar

Domni S.

Yelp
I was in search of a veggie bowl and I found this place based on reviews. It was so good! I had the miso soup which was a large bowl and so healing. I tried the kung pow soy chicken and it was crispy and veggies were fresh. Highly recommend
google avatar

Amayah E.

Yelp
This placeeeee oh my goodness!! Their vegan food is so so so good! I couldn't believe it when I tried it. We had the orange chicken and sesame chicken and it's so bomb! The flavor, texture, and amount you get was pretty good! I love restaurants like this that provide traditional Chinese American dishes but veganized! I was transported back to a time when I ate meat while eating here. The lettuce wraps were absolutely amazing and I highly recommend them. The vegan cream cheese rangoons were just okay.
google avatar

Sook L.

Yelp
Their food was great. We had tried getting takeout once before this and the tom yam fish was not appropriate for takeout. The crisp doesn't stay crispy. Maybe putting sauce on the side would help. The food was also too salty. This time, eating in is way better. Love their salt and pepper tofu! Also got vietnamese roll and it was delicious. Also requested for less salty and greasy, and it was perfectly seasoned. Love that the owners and servers are Malaysians. woohoo!
google avatar

Esly M.

Yelp
This place is so delicious I ordered their Pad Thai for the second time and their flavors are rich and consistent. They serve food promptly. The price is reasonable for the large serving too. I will return! Thank you! I would have given 4 stars but I am reserving this for when restaurants go above and beyond.
google avatar

Kam M.

Yelp
I decided to finally try out Veggie village. While I'm not a big soy or mock meat person once in a blue moon I will have a taste for it. I've tried the: Cream cheese wantons. Sesame chicken with Soy Protein/Fried Mushroom, extra Broccoli, Sesame Seeds Veggie delight Stir fried Broccoli, Carrots, Fried Tofu, Shitake Mushrooms, Snow Peas Yu Xiang Eggplant Egg-Plant, Tofu, Basil with Sweet & spicy Sauce Everything was pretty good.
google avatar

Sunny B.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Service was OK, I might have caught a hint of an eye roll from our waitress when we weren't ready to order when she stopped by our table to get our order. I was craving a soup dish, so I got the vegetable curry. It did not have as many tofu pieces as I had hoped for and was overall too spicy for my taste. The vegetable curry had a spice symbol next to it on the menu as a warning, so I should have known. The general Tso did as well, but was overall less spicy than the curry. The general Tso fake chicken was crispy and flavorful! We also tried the pot stickers as an appetizer and got thai iced tea. Everything was delicious! Would definitely come back. Parking was easy, it is located in a plaza with a small parking lot, but we had no problem finding a spot on a weekend evening.
google avatar

Shannon G.

Yelp
Love this place! The people are so nice and she food is amazing. I am so glad I found a delicious vegetarian restaurant near my house!
google avatar

Jen R.

Yelp
Vegan reviewer here! I've been to veggie village and handful of times and they honestly have some of the best mock chicken dishes in the valley. FYI this is a vegetarian spot but can make just about any dish vegan. My go to meal is the kung pao chicken which comes with rice. Get it, you won't regret it! I've also had the orange chicken, Vietnamese spring rolls, crab puffs and calamari. They were all delicious! The calamari is made from mushroom and taste like the real thing. The orange chicken has a very strong orange flavor since they use real oranges to flavor the dish but it is fresh. The spring rolls are fat and come with a home made peanut sauce. The staff is always friendly and they are quick to take your order. I was on a time crunch today and was in and out for lunch within 30 minutes.
google avatar

Maureen B.

Yelp
I was looking for vegan options and not having a lot of luck then I found Veggie Village. Wow! I was thoroughly impressed. I had a late lunch so instead just got the Tom Yum fried rice with vegan shrimp. The food was freshly made and hot and oh, so delicious. It's a lot of food for one person so I had some left over for the next day. Now, the pineapple pistachio macaroon........it was heavenly and I want a dozen more! I was skeptical as it didn't excite me when I first saw it. But oh so worth it!!!! I even loved the packaging. Definitely worth the visit and will be back if I'm ever back in Phoenix.
google avatar

Veronica L.

Yelp
Great and quick service! The vegan shrimp and the fried rice are my favorite things I've tried so far.
google avatar

Shannon N.

Yelp
I appreciated all the vegan meats this restaurant offered. I got the vegetable curry and it was delicious. It comes with tofu. Spice level was perfect to still taste the flavor of the curry. I also tried the Chia seed honeydew juice and it was delightful to have a refreshing slightly sweet drink with the spicy curry. I didn't care for the spring rolls ..not much flavor for me. The only complaint was the to go packaging. The curry has liquid and they put it in a cardboard box. Liquid leaked out of the cardboard and soaked through the paper bag and was a bit of a mess to clean up off the surface I set it on. I'd order from Veggie Village again! Maybe next time I'll try the vegan seafood.
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
I always have a great experience here. Great service and great food. The vegan hot and sour soup is delicious with fresh mushrooms in it. I always get it with a side of brown rice and it is a delicious and affordable meal. The vegan cream cheese wontons were yummy. I recommend this place to everyone, vegan or not. I just wish they were open on Saturdays!

Bobbie H.

Yelp
I ordered the vegan "Chickn" Curry bowl and it was wonderful, although a little too spicy for me. I had it delivered using a delivery service. I will definitely try them again, but am wondering if it's possible to request "a less spicy" or low or medium spice when using a delivery service. Can the manager let me know how I would do this? I love the taste of curry but not when it is too spicy. Thank you.
google avatar

Riley G.

Yelp
Just thought I would give an updated review for my favorite restaurant! As of right now, Veggie Village is take-out only with their dining area closed. You enter through the side door and pick up/order through a plexiglass window. They now have online ordering and delivery through 3rd parties like Ubereats! My favorite dishes have been the golden shrimp, lettuce wraps ( of course) and General Tso chicken. I honestly have never had a bad dish!
google avatar

Candice S.

Yelp
First, their food is prepared quickly, yet it doesn't taste like it. Portions are generous and flavor is on point. I go to VV two/month, and I order enough last 2-3 days - I get to try several things. Faves: roti prata, yu-xiang eggplant, and tom yam tofu. Tasty vegan and vegetarian. Bring your meat-eating friends. Even they are in for a treat.
google avatar

Hugh N.

Yelp
One of my family members is vegetarian, when he visits, he requests to get food from this restaurant. We had tried about 20 % of the menu so far in the last few weeks (& last year combined), the verdict is still good. During this time, it's only order out, but they are efficient with their orders & promised time. Food taste great & not pretentious & reasonable prices. Overall, this place offers a great menu for vegetarians & non-vegetarians who want to explore. It's one of my favorite spot to go for vegetarians food. Friendly services & timely efficient. Kudos

Alexandra S.

Yelp
Fantastic food! Excellent and quick service! Veggie Village hit the hunger spot in the perfect way. We ordered appetizers and two courses. The plates were licked clean and any morsels fallen to the table felt like missed opportunity. We don't eat out often but the next time we do, it'll be at Veggie Village.
google avatar

Pamela R.

Yelp
This review is only for the Vegetable Curry. It just was not good. I barely tasted curry, there was no sweetness and it was bland. This was the worst curry I've ever had. I was disappointed to say the least.
google avatar

Kirsten G.

Yelp
This place has great food and and quick service. One of my favorite burger places in AZ.
