Delicious Indian food! No frills, paper plates, plastic utensils. Not much on ambiance. The dosas are delicious and large. Tikka masala and dhal makhani also wonderful. If you’re a wimp on spice, be sure to specify not spicy at all! And it will still have a little kick ;) enjoy!!

Google
Excellent place for people looking out for only and pure vegetarian restaurant serving Indian food items in Washington DC. We tried Mysore Masala Dosa, French Fries, Samosa Chaat, Spinach Chaat and delicious Mango Lassi. All items were very good in taste and all of us enjoyed it a lot. Must visit place for anybody looking for Exclusive Indian Pure Vegetarian Restaurant in Washington DC.

Google
You don't go here for the ambiance, so let's just cross that off the list. You go here for a plate of the tastiest Indian in the area. It's vegetarian and some vegan, but don't let that stop you. Their dosas are just perfect. Huge, crispy, flavorful and the potato filling is spot on. I think the sambar is a bit too salty, but it's still very good. The prices are nice, as are the staff. It's not fine dining, but when you're hungry and want a nosh that's not a burger, stop in!

Google
This is a no-frill vegetarian/vegan Indian restaurant. Plates and cutlery are all disposable, nothing fancy. But that's OK because you come here for the food 😜 Dosas were perfectly crunchy and had enough filling. Manchurian Gobi was tasty, but overtime it overwhelmed me with its thick oily caramelized flavors. We also tried their "Indian cheesecake" and it was absolutely delicious. We would come back here if they were located near Alexandria with free parking, but I think for now they will remain as a fun, tasty memory for us. 😋

Pretty awesome and crispy dosas. Restaurant is unassuming from the outside but serve good food! Free refills of the sambar and chutney. Must try in DC

Google
OMG I loved this place. Have eaten at a lot of desi restaurants around DC but Vegz has been the best easily. Primarily coz the taste was authentic Indian. Also, portion size was well as per the price. We had mango Lassi, Chola puri and paneer Dosa (served with sambhar, coconut chutney). All items tasted sooo good and reminded me of home. The music playing there and the whole vibe was also desi. A must visit place! 🫶

This one is one of the best Indian restaurants I tried in the States. Servers are wonderful too. Our family had a great experience. 👍

Google
My first dosa in the US - not bad at all. I had the Mysore Masala Dosa. The dosa was crisp, and the masala was very tasty. The chutneys added great depth to the dosa. If I could, i would wish the dosa had a lil more crunch to it, and that they served south Indian filter coffee - but I've found my DC dosa place!

Yelp
Masala dosa and biriyani were delicious! Happy to have found a good Indian food spot.

Yelp
Samosa chaat was probably one of the best dishes I've ever tried in my entire life. Dosas were good but nothing special -- I've had better. The samosa chaat, though, carried my entire order. Great location, not that much seating. Friendly staff and also they were very helpful and allowed my friend and I to split a rather complex bill. 100% recommend.

Yelp
The food was incredible. Everything we ate was delicious! We got tadka dal ( They even made it Without onion and garlic for us) , we got puri bhaji, paneer tikka, baigan bharta and lassis! The food was amazing! The place is a hole in the wall and is small, so it can be a little tight but the delicious food made up for anything the place was lacking! The lady serving the food was polite and really sweet. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
I made a visit to VEGZ on Adams Morgan and ordered the Palak Paneer, Gobi Manchurian, and Naan. The Gobi Manchurian had great flavor and seasoning that I didn't even realize it was vegetarian. The palak paneer paired well with the basmati rice and naan and the meal filled me up. I do wish there was a little more flavor in the palak paneer but it was still solid. The service was also great as the workers made sure I had everything I needed.

Yelp
Unassuming little hole in the wall . Fresh juice and tasty vegetarian food. We'll definitely come again !

Yelp
My visit to Vegz, just before a show at DCAC, was a blend of hits and misses. The highlight for me was undoubtedly the samosas, which were delicious, and the fries, though standard, did not disappoint. The veggie Biriyani had a good flavor, but we encountered pieces of what seemed to be burned garlic, with an unpleasant texture reminiscent of tree bark, which detracted from the overall experience. The aloo palak, unfortunately, did not meet our tastes, but that's a matter of personal preference. On the plus side, Vegz offers a cozy and authentic atmosphere, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The charm of the restaurant and its authenticity are definite draws. While I have mixed feelings about our meal, the positive aspects make me open to giving Vegz another try, opting for different main dishes in the future. Didn't get pics of the entrees!

Yelp
I was reluctant to try this place as I'd never had this cuisine before and didn't know what to expect. Now, after trying it, I'm asking why didn't I get here sooner?! Everything I've had from VEGZ is amazing!! I love that they have a ton of plant-based options so I don't feel like I'm limited to just a small amount of items on the menu. The staff was super helpful with helping me choose from the menu since I had no idea what to try. The food was PHENOMENAL! Everything was fresh, super flavorful, and the portions were generous! The space is small, so you may have a wait in order to get a seat if you're eating inside. Parking is challenging in this area so we often order delivery so we can enjoy the food without the parking hassle! Do yourself a favor and try VEGZ!

Yelp
I am very biased with Indian food because I'm Punjabi and for me, my mom is the best cook. Not often do I come across Indian food where I'm genuinely shocked at how good it is and how it comes close to or is better than my mom's cooking. Vegz was definitely one of them. People working there were nice, had a smile on their face the whole time. The restaurant itself is no frills and honestly they don't even need to be fancy because of how good the food is. Their samosa chaat was the best I've had in the DMV area. I wish I got chole bhature because of how good the chole were in the samosa chaat. The Mysore masala dosa was also very good, but boy do they not mess around with spice! The sambar and the potato filing were super spicy which we loved! Thank god for the mango lassi though haha I honestly can't wait to go back and try more of their food!

Yelp
Decent Indian food. I've had better and worse. The naan was reminiscent of pita. I didn't eat the rice. The Saag Chana was good.

Yelp
The food here is so good and brought me back to Gujarat. Masala Dosa 5/5 would order again. definitely eat it hot so the dosa is fresh and crisply. Paneer Makhani 5/5 amazing, it reminded me of a korma sauce and so good Navratna Korma 4/5 wish there were more vegetables and the portion size was smaller than paneer makhani

Yelp
literally always wanted to try the extremely popular dosas from here after having some fabulous chaat (that came with many delicious chutneys!) - I saw photos of the dosas in the restaurant and they were HUGE burrito shaped meals, I suspected takeout would be wrapped in the same shape like a burrito but instead it was folded over. - the new shape of the dosa I believe prevented optimal filling ratio. there was way too much breading with only a few tablespoons of spinach filling - I loved the crunch on the top and bottom and the curried spinach was an amazing savory mild cut to the THREE (WOOOOOO) sauces. - super affordable wonderful prices

Yelp
Such a gem of a spot! Service was fast and the food was so so good. The seating is somewhat limited so you might have to wait a bit or just take the food to go. My favorites: gobi manchurian, masala dosa, and mango lassi What we ordered: -Gobi Manchurian: crispy cauliflower covered in a sweet, garlicky sauce. The texture reminded me of sesame chicken and it stayed crispy throughout the hour that we sat there chatting and eating. -Masala Dosa: the dosa was huuuuuge (bigger than our arms) and super crispy. It came with 2 sauces and a curry on the side and the masala was inside the dosa. -Bhindi Dopiyaza: okra, onions, and tomatoes that came with a side of rice. It packed some heat and it came with a side of rice. I really liked the texture of the okra -Mango Lassi: delicious as ever -Salt Lassi: we had never heard of it before so we wanted to try it. It's salty and tangy with some pepper (it reminded me of sour Chinese drinkable yogurt with extra salt). It pairs well with the food but I still prefer mango lassi. Glad we tried it!

Yelp
I loved Vegz!!! A super lowkey spot in Adams Morgan with such good food including traditional and non-traditional options. We tried the gobi Manchurian, samosa chat, mysore masala dosa, and paneer dosa, all of which were amazing. The spice in the mysore masala dosa was no joke. My only critique was that the chutney served on the side was a little watery. I'll definitely be heading back here.

Yelp
This place is a solid 4.5 (giving it 5 really because I completely enjoyed my meal and can't wait to come back and try some other dishes too!). The place itself is a teeny tiny spot located in the heart of Adams Morgan, a casual sit down restaurant that will bring your order quickly! Everything is fresh and the portions are tremendously big! So you can imagine a group of 5 people and their plates barely fitting in one table (here is all about the food!). Starting with the Papdi Chat (6.99) it was a great appetizer to share at the table, it was a well balanced dish speaking of textures and flavors! Crunchiness of the fried puris, mushiness of the spiced chickpeas, creaminess of the yogurt and the tang/zest of the chutneys made this one of my favorite appetizers and I will gladly eat it all hahah. My friends ordered the Masala Dosa ($12.99) which is basically an Indian savory crepe (crispier than your French crepe). The potatoes were cooked nicely with masala spices and played beautifully with the crisp exterior of the crepe! All the Dosas comes with red chutney (that I assumed had tamarind) and sambar! You get to dip or pour their content onto your dosa. I had the Paneer Dosa ($15.99) which had shredded paneer cheese, and it was cooked with some tomatoes. Kind of like a veggie tofu scramble! It was very tasty and I couldn't agree more with people that this was the best of their dosas! We also had a the Dal Makhani ($12.99) it was very aromatic and flavorful black lentil stew/curry. My friend had it before and she likes to top it with some of their green chutney for some tang! Portion is really big, perfect for sharing or to have leftovers for the next day! Overall a great meal for a rainy day!

Yelp
Delish and consistent. Great stuff no matter what you order. Too bad Cali doesn't have some of the great vegan options DC does.

Yelp
I really love this food - and the guys that run the place are super sweet. im a carnivore and dont miss meat at alllll eating this spectacular all-vegan food. i hope they figure out how to pack their delivery food to stay crispy (holes in containers guys! no saran wrap!) when it needs to be. please grab a bite here - the spinach chaat and masala dosa are heaven on earth.

Yelp
This is the only dosa spot I know in dc and it lacks nothing in quality. It's a small, no-frills spot, a bit hidden on AdMo. There are only a few tables and most people just eat and go, with little time to loiter. We ordered the toppings (aloo and gobi manchurian) on the side. To my surprise, I LOVED the gobi. Don't get me wrong, the aloo was good too but I still think about the gobi and counting down the days until I go again and order. The mysore dosa was yummy, but had a slow creeping spice that towards the end I was sweating and could barely eat another bite. Didn't love the sambar and the huge chunks of aloo in it, but still the crispy paper dosa and other sides makes up for it.

Yelp
I can hardly express how much I love this place...Vegz is an absolute delight, with its delicious and flavor-packed dishes and super-casual and laid-back vibe! And, as if that wasn't enough to seal the deal, everything here is vegetarian, and there are plenty of vegan options as well! I first visited Vegz with a friend for dinner, and I admit that I wasn't expecting much when I first walked into the tiny restaurant, tucked away in a basement in the middle of AdMo with only a few tables and plastic chairs. Despite its small size and relatively utilitarian furnishings, Vegz delivered both massive portions and flavor. My friend and I underestimated how large the portions would be (especially given how cheap everything was), so we ordered the masala dosa, dal makhani, and chole puri. It was way too much food for the two of us, but, thankfully, the leftovers tasted just as amazing the next day. The masala dosa is a classic for a reason. First of all, it's MASSIVE -- way bigger than any dosa I've ever seen, and it was absolutely delicious. The potatoes were fragrant, wonderfully spiced, and soft and hearty. They paired wonderfully with the paper-thin and crispy dosa, as well as the super-flavorful sambal. Every now and then, I also dipped the dosa in the chickpeas from the chole puri or in the dal makhani, and it also paired wonderfully with both of those...it was honestly just so warm and comforting, and it soaked up the flavors of anything that it was dipped in. The chole puri and dal makhani were also delicious! They were both packed with flavor, with the perfect balance of spices, and I really appreciated that both were dairy-free (and they were both so wonderfully rich and decadent that I definitely didn't miss the dairy at all). The chickpeas were definitely the highlight of the chole puri; I enjoyed the puffed bread that it came with, but it was a bit too greasy for my preference. Even so, it was delightfully soft and soaked up the delicious chickpea curry perfectly. The dal makhani was incredible with both the masala dosa and the basmati rice that it came with, and was equally delicious that night at the restaurant and the next day for lunch. Vegz has quickly become one of my favorite Indian restaurants in DC, and I am beyond excited for my next excuse to hop over to AdMo to give them another shot. The portions and prices are literally unbeatable, and I still can't get over how delightfully light and crispy their dosa was or how spectacularly flavorful each and every dish was.

Yelp
Im a vegan and it's so nice not having to worry about any ghee or butter being in the curries! Best dish: black dal!!!

Yelp
I have been coming here at least 2-3 times a year the last five years even during the pandemic. It has not changed from day one. A mom and pop joint and the hubby is the chef with helpers. I love the masala Dosa, in fact all their Dosas and Uthappam is as authentic as one can be in the States. My partner loves their Cholle Puri and it even has the street flavor ( very slight sourness from Chutneys ) from Delhi. Today I had the new Taco Dosa. I had my filled and loved the 3 different fillings in each of them. Mango lassi was well made and only $3.99. Overall a 4.5. Service is superb and friendly.

Yelp
I am so in love with this place!! The restaurant is small, tucked away in a basement in AdMo, and only has five tables, but it should not be missed. I've looked everywhere in DC for dosas and found here - such a nice variety and authentic dishes. I'm basic so I got the masala dosa. It looked gorgeous and tasted even better. Thin, crispy, full of coconut fragrant, but soft in the middle where it's filled with spicy, flavorful mashed potato. It paired so well with the chutneys, especially the red one (I think it's ginger and chili?). On top of that, the staff here are SO nice. Super attentive in seating every table down, bringing water right away, and taking their order. The food also came out really fast, pipping hot and fresh. I knew food here would be amazing based on all the reviews but was still so pleasantly surprised that I had to text all my gluten-free, dairy-free friends and recommend this place before finishing my own meal lol.
google avatar

Julia N.

Yelp
the hype is warranted. VEGZ has delicious food, and their big portions, sambar, and flavorful chutneys standout among other Indian and street food restaurants in DC. a must try if you enjoy dosa or chaat!
google avatar

Sudha K.

Yelp
We were visiting and ate here. Loved the food. Simple ambience, good folks, great food.

Yelp
This is the best dosa in the DMV by a landslide!!! There are cons to going here - this place is small. And I mean SMALL!! But the food really saves it from everything. The staff is always quick and courteous at the same time!

Yelp
We've been looking for a South Indian spot and vegz did not disappoint! Delicious dosas, street food and curries. Everything on the menu is vegetarian. We went with a mango lassi, Mysore masala dosa and regular masala dosa. Both dosas have the same potato filling inside but the Mysore masala dosa itself is also spicy and more flavorful which I liked. Dosas were good and a large size. It comes with two chutneys and sambar as well. The mango lassi was good too, but I recommend splitting it with someone in order to be able to finish the dosa, they're big! One thing that's a little annoying, the door to the bathroom hits one of the tables in the seating area. If you're seated at that table you'll have to constantly stand up and let people go through in order to use the bathroom. It's hard when you're trying to enjoy your food, and hard for the people who need to use the bathroom. And with a restaurant that requires you to use your hands to eat, almost everyone that dines in will need to use it to wash their hands. Overall this is a great spot for quick Indian food, and pretty cheap as well. Service was quick and our food came fast after ordering.
google avatar

Rikin S.

Yelp
This is an amazing little restaurant on the basement level of a building in the Adam's Morgan neighborhood. There are maybe 6 tables in the entire place but this place was busy with a carryout, pickup and even dine in orders. I'm not sure how to pronounce the name and the name didn't give away the fact that it's an Indian restaurant. The prices are very affordable and the selections spans both north and South Indian cuisine. The staff is very welcoming and friendly; they are exceptional at what they do. I noticed they even have several regulars yet they treat everyone that walks in like family. We ordered the Mysore Masala Dosa and the Samosa chaat. Everything tasted fresh and made to order. We really enjoyed ourselves and will be coming back to this spot. What's unique is that everything is vegetarian and they have many vegan selections too. I don't think anyone would notice because there were all sorts of customers of different ages and ethnicities.

Yelp
Giant dosa and Samosa Chat appetizer to share. mango leshi. Nice hidden gem. Below street level.

Yelp
Had food at VEGZ when I visited Washington DC. Menu is limited but fresh and authentic tasting food. Service is clean, fast and good. Ambiance is upscale.

Gabrielle C.

Yelp
I got take out, but this is not my first time. I love their dosas, South Indian food when most Indian places have North Indian food. This time I also got palak paneer, and it was honestly fantastic. That is what inspired me to write this review. Highly recommend.

Jay S.

Yelp
Loved this place. Will definitely come back and recommend to friends. Great value. Cozy ambience. You're going to enjoy it whether you're primarily veg or non-veg. I can see why it's been highly rated here on Yelp.

Andrea J.

Yelp
Delicious vegan options in a lowkey, tucked away and comfortable setting. Always a great option for lunch or dinner and a must-try whenever in DC.
google avatar

Joffrin A.

Yelp
Originally from Dallas, and Dallas suburbs have some of the best Indian food in the country. I'm always skeptical of Indian spots in DC, but this place was amazing. The masala dosa, sambar and chutney was phenomenal, light airy flaky baked perfectly. Sambar was slightly sweet and perfect spice level. Medhuvada was doughy and just crisp enough and the coconut chutney it came with was really good. Also ordered a paneer tikka which was good as well!

MeetMeInDC ..

Yelp
Some of the best Indian food I've had in the DC area. I'm visited a number of South Indian veg places in the suburbs (Ashburn/Chantilly/Herndon) but this honestly was the best dosa I've had in the DMV. Place is small, yes - and that's the only real downside. The service was friendly, and I look forward to trying some other items next time.

Yelp
Returned to VEGZ and once again had a great experience. My companion and I decided to share each dish and ordered all three at once. Service was friendly and prompt, despite how busy the restaurant was. The limited number of tables allows VEGZ staff more ability to offer good service to the customers that are seated; no one seems stretched too thinly, which I appreciate. We ordered the Masala Dosa (masala on the side, always! Prevents a crisp dosa form becoming soggy), Gobi Manchurian, and Bhindi Dopiyaza; each dish was a hit. The Gobi Manchurian was better than last time; the pieces of cauliflower were bigger and the sauce was excellent. Last time, the dish was slightly oversalted but this time it was not at all. 5/5. The Bhindi was excellent and came with rice, which we did not realize but enjoyed nonetheless. Okra, onions, and tomatoes; it's hard to go wrong but this wasn't overly oily and hit all the right notes. 5/5. We ate this along with the masala dosa, most of which was ideal. The dosa itself was crispy and large; it definitely left us wanting more. The chutneys were pleasantly spiced and the tomato ginger chutney was especially good. The potatoes were quite good though not as gingery or spiced as last time. The sambar was the only weak link of these components, but overall the meal was deserving of a 5/5. Will be back at VEGZ soon!

Sandeep S.

Yelp
When I called and mentioned about the spoiled Raita and food (which she foul smell) their response was- "make it at home and eat it" Awful!
google avatar

Nupur C.

Yelp
The food was AMAZING and service was fast. The staff were so kind and accommodating and the restaurant itself gave dhaba vibes. Could not recommend more.
google avatar

Khadeijah M.

Yelp
Salad was honestly not worth it at all. Should've specified that the oyster mushroom would be fried and not blackened they were completely unseasoned. Also the dressing is problematic. Now on to the good The sandwich was really good and made me wish I had gotten fries I literally inhaled it and wished I had another lol. They were a bit STINGY with the buffalo sauce though.
google avatar

Yelp
This place didn't look like much from the outside (or the inside for that matter!). But I was in Adams Morgan and looking for an easy take out option that was vegan friendly since I do a vegan cleanse every so often. I know, I know... so very California of me! I didn't realize this would be Indian food based on the name. But hey, I love Indian! There are so many vegan and gluten free options on the menu but I ended up going with the masala dosa (the orange sauce on the side was incredible) and the eggplant bharta. I really loved it! If I went back, I'd probably get the plain dosa since the masala dosa was a bit heavy for me (stuffed with potatoes). Though, it didn't stop me from eating the entire thing! Highly recommended especially for an easy takeout option with healthy food.
google avatar

Yelp
What a sweet spot. Wonderful service. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the Masala Dosa. Delicious. I would definitely go out of my way to come back.

Yelp
This is the best Indian food I have had! I had a dosa and a side of puri and it was so delicious.

L. V.

Yelp
This place was just ok... Gezzz you guys hyped it up so much I expected more lol Small spot, only one girl serving all tables so service was kinda nonexistent/slow. Food was just ok, nothing to rave about really. My favorite thing was the Samosa with the green sauce. Yum! This place does get packed and cramped quick, I was surprised. We got there at 11:30am (no one there) & by the time we left at 12noon it was packed!! I was glad we were done and on our way out. It can get claustrophobic real quick ! To each there own... I went, I saw, I ate, I won't be back.... Enjoy !!
google avatar

Ashli F.

Yelp
FLAVOR FLAVOR FLAVOR. If this is your first time trying South Indian food, expect ALOT of FLAVOR & be FILLED quick! I've had many samosas in my days but these are my FAVORITE of all time. I also ordered a dosa which next time I'd probably order one with more hearty fillings but I was still happily full in the end. Not 100% vegan, but over half of their menu offers vegan & GLUTEN-FREE options. The servers were SUPER FRIENDLY & attentive! Small space inside with not the most updated decor but the food makes up for everything!

Derp J.

Yelp
Small, half underground restaurant. One of the most authentic Indian food I have tasted in the DC area. And that is saying a lot! Try it
google avatar

L P.

Yelp
Okay, whoever is in this kitchen is putting their whole soul into this food. Soooo good!!! I haven't tried anything on the menu that didn't make me want to shout. My favorites are the samosas, dal makhani, Chana masala, and really just everything. I haven't tried the dosas yet but they're next. Also, they offer curbside pickup so you don't have to find parking. Best Indian food in DC (and yes, I'm looking at you Rasika!)
google avatar

Ali M.

Yelp
Searched for the perfect Indian food after moving to DC and was frustrated after trying several places. Then I checked Yelp (ugh-duh!) and found VEGZ! Yes!!! The flavors of every dish are complex and addictive. They will really bring the heat if you request very spicy (grab that side of Raitha to bring sweet relief when you get in over your head- lol!). Try anything and everything- you can't go wrong (I've tried almost everything, all as carry out). The staff is so pleasant and welcoming- can't wait to try a dine-in experience. Their mission to introduce the world to delicious vegetarian options is inspiring and you won't miss meat at all! Kudos to this wonderful business- so appreciate my weekly treat with VEGZ! :)

Heidi R.

Yelp
Extremely great food, fun atmosphere, staff seemed a bit young though. All the food was very flavorful and yummy

Swaroop R.

Yelp
Very tasty vegetarian/vegan food. His friendly staff and reasonably quick service. Samosa Chaat is my favorite.

Yelp
I cannot pronounce VEGZ (Is it Veg-Z? Vegs?), but it does not matter because I honestly have never had a bad meal here. I often find myself having a craving for Vegz. I've only gotten take out and their service is crazy fast but still high quality! There a few tables if you do choose to eat in. My favorite dosas I've tried so far are the mysore masala dosa and gobi dosa (cauliflower). The dosas themselves are crispy and a generous size. I'm interested in trying the taco dosa next time! I also like their aloo gobi, bhindi dopianza (okra with ginger, garlic, and onions), and palak paneer. And of course I like to pair the meal with a mango lassi, which at $3.99 I think is relatively cheaper than other places. If you're vegetarian or vegan this should absolutely be a go-to spot for you! And if you're not, you'll be amazed at the flavor and you definitely won't miss the meat.
