Where To Eat Ukrainian Food In Chicago

"This spot with swings dangling from the ceiling and cloud sculptures looks like something you’d find in River North rather than in the middle of a strip mall near O’Hare. Some of the food is pretty straightforward, like their salo plate with cured pork, bread, and mustard. Other options are much more creative, like borscht that gets drizzled over vegetables and meat, and holubtsi that comes in the form of stuffed cabbage balls (rather than rolls) with a leaf-shaped cracker on top. We like both approaches, so try a little of each style. As long as you prioritize a mousse dessert, like passion fruit or cherry, you'll be in good shape." - john ringor

Velour didn’t just finish strong—it saved the sweetest surprise for last 🍰💫 The dessert was sheer decadence. Delicately layered, artfully presented, and bursting with flavor, it struck that perfect balance between indulgence and finesse. Each bite felt like a celebration: velvety textures, a whisper of citrus, a hint of caramelized depth—it was like the finale of a symphony that lingered long after the last note. It wrapped up the meal with elegance and joy, turning a great dinner into an unforgettable one. From dumplings to risotto to that dreamy dessert, Velour is more than a restaurant—it’s a love letter to flavor.

My review is only based on the pastry aspect at this point. Food- I gave a 3 for the artwork and time it takes to prep this fine desserts, but measure in quantity vs price with no explanation as what superior ingredients were used or any back story. After the 3rd pastry, the flavor honestly blended in and felt to similar between the 5 different pastries selected. Service-was phenomenal. Warm greetings and knowledge of the pastries. Smiling faces and warm welcomes pretty much set the tone. Atmosphere-pretty peaceful spot. Nice location, but doesn't give off 'restaurant' vibes. Inside had nice spacing between the tables and items on the wall to look at. Wasn't much to spark conversation other than over the pastries. Would we return?, since we didnt experience the full effect, yes ee will. Review update at that time.

It’s the best restaurant in the Chicago area. They have an amazing selection of food and drinks and the most delicious pastries ever. The staff is friendly, they speak English and Ukrainian. We’ve also had a chance to enjoy live music at dinner time. Highly recommended!

We were shocked how beautiful the place is, how delicious is the food, it’s most artistic presentation, and their hospitality!!!!! They use only wholesome produce, meaning organic, pasture raised meats, wild caught fish. Their octopus dish is authentically prepared as it would be in Portugal and Spain. The soups: mushroom and the Carpathian spicy one are definitely the best versions of such. World class cuisine! I can’t wait to come back and try other dishes.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Velour restaurant and it was an exceptional experience. The unique feature that makes Velour restaurant stand out is its commitment to serving authentic Ukrainian cuisine with a touch of elegance. This, combined with its amazing service and exquisite desserts, makes it a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in a culinary experience that is both satisfying and memorable.

❤️✅Velour is the place I always visit when I’m in Chicago. For me, it’s not just a restaurant it’s where you can experience true European and, most importantly, Ukrainian cuisine at its finest. The black cheese dumplings are absolutely exceptional probably among the best I’ve ever had. And the banosh… that’s a whole different story. The texture, flavor, and presentation are all perfect. The menu is diverse, dishes are beautifully served, and the desserts deserve a special mention. I genuinely recommend everyone to visit this place. The food is made with love and you can feel it in every bite.🇺🇸✅🤝

I recently visited a Ukrainian restaurant called Velour, and I was really impressed. The decor is beautiful, the service was excellent, and the food - absolutely delicious. I ordered banosh, a traditional Ukrainian dish made with corn grits and topped with cheese and crispy pork. Simple, hearty, and delicious. My friend had the carbonara pasta and loved it. We also treated ourselves to desserts - each one was a masterpiece. I’m really happy I discovered this place.

This place has a calming atmosphere with beautiful decor that really adds to the experience. I ordered the ribeye steak and it was prepared perfectly. The desserts were also delightful, especially the Cherry and Bear dessert. Our server, Anastasia, was very sweet and attentive, which made the evening even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This restaurant is stunning and stylish, offering a wonderful dining experience. The food was fantastic. We had the lamb chops and the seafood risotto, both of which were cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared a decadent chocolate cheesecake that was rich and delicious. Additionally, we enjoyed two delightful cocktails that perfectly complemented our meal. The ambiance and the quality of the food have definitely won us over, and we're excited to come back and try more items from the menu, especially the other tempting desserts. This place has quickly become one of our favorite spots for a special night out.

Yelp
Velour knocked my expectations out of the ball park. We checked out this fancy dainty Ukrainian restaurant in the evening and was pleasantly surprised how flexible the wait staff and chef was able to accommodating serving the breakfast menu as well as we were curious to try out one item from each menu! I absolutely adore the enthusiasm our waitress, Anastasia had to help us select the perfect meal. Anastasia was extremely patiently and friendly in offering answer my questions, offering her insight as to which items were most popular as well as her own favorite items. We wound up trying and really liking the juicy and tender ribeye steak as well as the heart-shaped snickers cake. You definitely need to come check out Velour!

Yelp
This place is beyond amazing! Their desserts are not only beautiful but delicious! Good ambiance! Very friendly staff! Delicious coffee - the only thing I would recommend is getting long handled spoons instead of the paper straws. In my option, they don't really go well with hot coffee!

Yelp
4 stars for service and ambiance. The food looked incredible. The steak was under-seasoned but cooked to our desired doneness. Purple potato purée was silky and had a very nice whipped texture. The "chef's special was 4 tiny scallops and a creamy, cheesy polenta. The highlight was the dessert and the prosciutto toast, and the dessert- chefs kiss. We will be going back to try their Ukrainian food and have more of their amazing dessert.

Yelp
Ordered 2 creamy mushroom soups, raspberry dessert (green one), tropical dessert (orange one) and an americano. The soups was amazing very delicious and very flavorful. Both of the desserts were great, perfect amount of sweet. I would come back to try more. The service was quick, we were seated right away and our waiter was very pleasant and offered recommendations. The atmosphere is very cute. There are tables with swings, would love to be seated there next t
