I've always loved the vibe of downtown Provo, which is an unpopular thing to say, since hating on Utah County is a beloved hobby of many Salt Lake County folks. However, I appreciate the uniqueness of the small businesses and the slower pace. Sure, I miss the occasional cocktail, but I also don't mind dry entertainment.
Last night's adventure brought me to a live music event here at Velour. I did a little research ahead of time and learned that seating is extremely limited, as is the parking. So come early, in comfy shoes, and set your expectations accordingly.
The ambience inside is sort of dark, moody and intimate. There's a dramatic feel to the place, without any (obvious) drama. Doors didn't open until 6:30, and there was a line along the sidewalk of folks waiting to get in. That added to the "big city" feel of the place, even for a not-so-big city.
The acoustics were good, if not a tad loud. (Yup, I'm showing my age.) The lighting was colorful and energetic, not just a boring stagnant few slights. I would likely return to see a lively act that I'm really interested in-someone that I wouldn't mind standing in a crowd of people to watch.
