Velvet Brooklyn

This past weekend the Velvet Brooklyn staff hosted my 32nd Mean Girls themed birthday party in their private lounge. Jose the event coordinator & GM, plus the rest of the Velvet Brooklyn staff were all very attentive & just AMAZINGGG with helping make my celebration such a special night!!!! From helping me set up a laptop to stream the movie on their screen behind the bar while the party was in motion, to just being so friendly & consistent with checking in. The lounge was perfect for my party. I had private catering come in before I arrived to set up the food and again the venue was so accommodating in assisting my caterer with whatever she needed. The night was so much fun, all of my guests were having a great time. I had a great time & would definitely recommend Velvet Brooklyn to anyone who is looking for a fabulous space to host their special events. Also I would like to shout out the owner, Phil for also being so wonderful throughout the whole booking process. Thank you Phil, you have a great staff behind you - keep up the great work & I will be stopping by soon to enjoy some cocktails!!!

My fiancé and I recently had our engagement party at Velvet and it was better than we could have ever expected! We cannot recommend Jose and the Velvet team enough! From the beginning, Jose was so personable and felt excited about our party. It was super easy to communicate with him and every interaction was so genuine! Our party was so much fun and we received many compliments from our friends and family about the venue and the service. We felt like everything was taken care of and knew we were in good hands that entire night. Even though our party is over, we now consider ourselves regulars! We would definitely recommend Jose, his team, and this venue for any private party or just for a night of cocktails! You can’t go wrong!

Jose and his team were incredibly hospitable and friendly throughout the entire process from initial contact till the very last minute of the event. Our private event was well organized and Jose frequently checked in with me and my guests to make sure everything was going smoothly. Not to mention the food and cocktails were all delicious! I highly recommend Velvet Brooklyn for any private event!

There are only 3 tables in this place: one by the window that seats about 6 people that was occupied, and another in the back, and one off to the side, also both occupied. I asked the waiter if I could get the table by the window when they leave. He said no, it's reserved. I said, "Okay, how about the one in the back?" He replied, "That's also reserved." "Okay, how about the one to the side?" "Nope, that's also reserved, and by the way, this bar is also reserved, so we have about 40 minutes until we have to leave." I've never felt more uncomfortable in my life. We are definitely not wanted here We are here, quiet, enjoying ordering ourselves having cocktails and food. He just smiled.Wont be back there ever again

Velvet Brooklyn is incredible. I just had my Halloween / bday party in their private lounge last weekend and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The space is beautiful, and every aspect of the planning and hosting process was an absolute joy thanks to Phil (owner), Jose (GM/event coordinator), and the rest of the super kind, professional staff. I received a speedy response to every email, accommodation of all my requests, and the most fun, attentive day-of team ever. Thank you for a spectacular night!

Fantastic event space- you should definitely plan your next party here! We catered an event here just yesterday and we were thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and attention to detail that went into putting together such a successful event. The venue was clean and so beautiful, the team was so kind and organized and happy to help with everything, and it truly felt like your own hideaway Brooklyn club! Cheers to the team at Velvet- Jose and Phil get a special shout-out for being some of the most coordinated professionals in the industry that we've encountered in a while!

I held my 40th birthday party in Velvet BK's private back room and it was amazing. The service was excellent with three bartenders, the DJ set was fun, the food selection was solid, and the drinks were great. We had 20 guests, but the space comfortably fits up to 60. We had a great time and I'd definitely come back.

I threw a surprise 30th birthday party for my sister at this location and it was nothing short of AMAZING! Phil's communication was excellent. He responded promptly, was very helpful with planning, and very clear with what the venue provides and pricing. Taya's service and help during the event was unmatched! She was very pleasant and great to work with. I ordered enough food for everyone to eat at the event and everyone agreed that the food was also delicious! I ordered wings, baked ziti, meatballs, salad, and empanadas and everything tasted great! The ambiance was also very elegant and nice for an intimate event! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone thinking about throwing a nice event and would definitely return!

The amazing private back room at Velvet feels like a cross between a prohibition-era speakeasy and a boudoir. The sweeping red curtains, matching red stools, pillows, and tufted lounge chairs with mahogany wood finishings and ornate chandeliers are all pure drama. My friends held a private birthday party back here, and it felt so exclusive and adult in all the right ways. Having a dedicated bartender for our group made the night all the more special. The space is quite long, and you could probably pack about 40 people in there if you were going for a super lively event, but our group of 20 was able to spread out comfortably. The cocktails were tasty, as were the Mediterranean bites I tried. Not sure I'd come here for a full meal, but the crudite, hummus, and ricotta spread were great for party nibbles.

Okay honestly. 5 for 5 on the entire experience. Cocktails. My partner and I tried the entire cocktail menu except for two and could not give a single critique. Everything tasted very delicious, balanced, and not sweet. Food. We tried the carne and burrata pizza. Both 5/5. I would say it's elevated bar food. The service was great. Very attentive and thorough. and I loved the ambiance. It was chill and classy and sexy. Could be for happy hour vibes or a nice date. Definitely will be coming back!

This bar was great! A couple friends and I went as part of a bar crawl and I would say this was definitely a highlight. It has a very warm interior design with good drinks. I got a whiskey neat while my friends tried the grape cocktail and the port. All were good! The bartender was helpful and gave us quick service which was appreciated! They also answered any questions we had. I would definitely go back to this spot for a full night there.

I threw my 50th birthday celebration a few days ago I cannot say enough great things about this venue! The space is absolutely beautiful and set the perfect tone for my event. Phil, the owner, was amazingly responsive and so amenable to all of my suggestions. He even created signature drinks for the occasion which were a huge hit with all of my guests! The staff was equally incredible: attentive, professional and so helpful throughout the night. Everyone kept asking me, "How did you find this place?" I would 1000% choose this venue again for any future event. It was an unforgettable experience from start to finish!

What a great spot! Rented out the back lounge for a birthday party and it was the best experience I have had renting a space for an event. The space is huge, the photos don't show how spacious it is. It really has everything you need - space for a DJ, space for a photo op if you wanted, a slideshow in a central area, great sound, a private and huge bar, ample seating and tables, great lighting. Staff was so accommodating and helpful, extremely communicative and generous with their time. Drinks were great, and everyone had a wonderful time, commenting on how wonderful the space was. Would absolutely recommend.

Brooklyn Hidden gem Velvet. Private space available for birthday parties or any other celebration. Service was great. We are able to plug our phone in the private space to listen to our music. This is a bit of a hidden gem, overshadowed by Peter Lugar. The cocktails are all super amazing, although its a little bit weird that they have names that sound like they came from 50 Shades of Gray (e.g., Leather or Velvet. The venue is also super exciting... has a feeling like it belongs in the neighborhood with some level of history with the old wood paneling. The staff was lovely and really helped us get to our reservation. The music was loud enough that it was interesting, but we could still hear our conversations. Great for friend gatherings.

Went here for the first time and I will definitely go back nice atmosphere a good variety to choose from in both food and drinks, we got here not too long after opening so not crowded and easy to have a drink chat and still hear the conversation plenty of elbow room, we got there during happy hour $7.00 Beer, Wine and Sangria price ranges from $7-$15+, I noticed a spacious area hidden behind heavy curtains but viewable when headed to the bathroom. that's where you might find me next time.

Rented out the back space of Velvet Brooklyn for my wedding after party and it was great. The space is intimate and was perfect for our party of about 60ppl. Our DJ was able to hook up to the sound system easily. And the bartender kept drinks were flowing nicely. We danced and had a ball. If there wasn't another party after ours we would have stayed another couple of hours.

It was the day after my birthday, Thankfully it was a Sunday, my husband decided to take me on a fancy little brunch date. I never have high expectations because I never wanna be disappointed but with all the tricks up my husband's sleeve how can I ever be. Our reservation was at 3 and when we arrived at first sight I quickly thought huh! this does not look like an outdoorsy, rooftop brunch spot!!!. It was small, dark and like 2 people was there having coffee. However. The hostess did such a great job playing it off, she mentioned that as we continue to walk further towards the back the space will open up. As soon as she opened these big long velvet curtains everyone yelled ... SURPRISE!!!!. omg what an amazing feeling I didn't even know who was in the room yet all I saw was lights and the beautifully decorated ambiance. What a lovely space, it was intimate, private and it gave me an industrial feel which I love. Also I loved the brick walls, the comfy sofas and the settings everything was perfect. The service was top notch and on point. We bought so much champagne that we actually bought out the bar. He had to run and buy more champagne because that's all I/we was drinking. My husband also put a Bottle in each section for all to enjoy. The food was phenomenal and need i say more. The picture doesn't give that day any justice. What a great nite to remember. I wanna thanks the manager for giving us an extra hour (or 2) and also for the welcoming hospitality to your establishment were so thankful. Your mom was such a beautiful sweet lady who I spoke with outside. And also to the hostess and everyone who participated. We will definitely have more parties here.

Excellent! A friend booked this spot for his 30th birthday and it was great for a private event. There's a front room and a back room where two parties could be going on. The spot lets you have your own Spotify playlist play and they even have a ring light to use for you to take photos and videos with all your guests. There is a coat check for your guests and a bathroom just for your group. You're allowed to move the chairs and tables in the room to fit the layout that you want! The Event Coordinator, Jason, was very kind, attentive, and helped us get the party going. He was constantly checking in with us and ensuring that people were going to the right parties as there were 2 going on that night. He helped us store the cake and helped us get it ready for our guest of honor that night. A nice touch was that he helped cut the cake which is always a daunting task, but was done very smoothly. The staff was very kind and very helpful if small issues happened. Thanks again for having us! Can only speak as a birthday guest, but I definitely had a lovely evening!

Went here for a bday party and it was a cool spot...the pizza was good the bartender knows how to make a good margarita..very cool spot I will be back

This place is definitely a gemstone... the ambiance is so unique, service and attention is beyond perfect. Food is flavorful and tasteful, presentation is awesome and you can't miss the drinks ... the margaritas are on the money... definitely I'll make this place somewhere to return

Conveniently located next to Peter Luger's this lovely lounge is a nice place to go before or after dinner. We went on a FREEZING cold Sunday night in January. I was first struck by the lovely atmosphere. The bartender was wonderful - warm, friendly, helpful with Qs, made delicious drinks. I told her I loved scotch. Pete asked for something for Campari or Aperol. Both drinks were awesome! The drinks are super expensive! Don't act like I never told ya Great spot for a date.

Terrible Terrible service... over charged us for food. The drinks were watered down. Zero star !

DO NOT TRUST their event packages. We agreed to an open bar with appetizers, but they served only 3 plates of food for 50 guests! I'VE NEVER BEEN SO EMBARRASSED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! They ruined my wife's 50th birthday and made me look bad in front of all our friends.

I had my 30th birthday party here and it truly was the best. Phil promptly responded to every single question I had before hand which made the day of the event a breeze! We had full access to the back room including music and decorating, could even bring our own food and cake. I had just about 45 guests and it didn't feel packed at all, with plenty of room to dance. The bar tender that worked my birthday was quick and everyone complimented her drinks. This place truly catered to every single I wanted to have for my party and some! We even extended pass our 4 hours because the party didn't want to stop! Highly recommend this for any private party you may be throwing!

Beautiful bar, great drinks and super nice staff. Dropped something through a crack in the deck, and the manager Phil helped me fish it out with his magnetic lapel pin - 11 out of 10 service!

This year I decided to celebrate my birthday at Velvet and made reservations for bottle service. I was sent an email with the prices of the bottles (see photo) and decided on my favorite, Tito's vodka ($200). At Velvet it was a different price. The price was $250 and when I said i thought it was $200, the response was just that it was $250 per bottle plus gratuity. Since I'm not an argumentative person, I paid that price which left me very disappointed. Otherwise, nice lounge, great ambience, great music, friendly staff.

One of our favorite bars we visited! Upscale yet immediately inviting and friendly. Our cocktails were superb and the little pies fucking ruled!

My husband and I had our wedding celebration here and it was everything we ever dreamed of and MORE. Phil went above and beyond to make our night absolutely perfect. Everyone was in awe by the beautiful space and the service. It did not need one ounce of decor. Couldn't recommend Velvet enough for any and every event!

We happen to stop by on a Monday while on our NY trip. This place is AWESOME!!! We walked in and they had a reggae band playing live. They were really good! Really good! I def recommend!

While I had some time to kill before my Peter Lugers reservation my group checked out Velvet. Excellent location with beautiful decor. The bartender was very friendly, the bar boasts an excellent variety of whiskey, scotch and bourbon. From what I understand the location was previously a cigar bar. Shame on me I was busy conversing with my dining partners that I neglected to review the tapas menu. I intend to go back and have a happy hour with cocktails and tapas.

We stopped off for a beverage after dinner. Moderately slow on a wednesday night - there was some type of comedy show happening in the back but it had already stared. The drinks were okay. Bartender spent more time talking with her friends the. The customers at the bar.

A cozy pub that doubles up as an entertainment venue, Velvet is a nice cocktail bar you can hit up for a drink with friends or a casual date. I ended up spending my 27th birthday there because they were hosting a game of thrones series finale watch party. Before the event, they had a fun little troupe of comics that did GoT themed sketches. Although I was a walk in, and had 2 huge pieces of luggage with me, the bartender couldn't have been nicer about it. He agreed to store the luggage for me in the staff cloak room, and escorted me into what was a packed room of people waiting for the episode to show. While waiting, I even made friends with a fan who had driven down all the way from Virginia to watch the finale in NYC, and it felt great, us strangers holed up in this warm bar, bonding over our beloved characters. They seem to have quite a few good beers on tap, but I was hungry and dove straight in for the nosh. The starters weren't spectacular- the mezze plate seemed like store bought hummus and some arbit crisps. However, I will give five stars to this spot for its sheer energy and classy decor.

We did a buyout of the space for a late-night private event and it was fantastic. We looked for a bar with a classic New York vibe, is furnished nicely, and is more intimate so our group of 80-ish guests would feel like they were at a buzzing bar but still had the room to be comfortable. We also needed space for a 7-piece band and an area for dancing and the back room at Velvet was perfect for this (they even have their own disco ball!). The bartenders and staff were wonderful and kept drinks flowing all night. We were so happy we decided to host our event here and highly recommend Velvet if you are considering it!

I love that place. It's nice to be served for the lovely and smiley Jessica. And what a great cocktail called Blue Morpho (truly delicious and dangerous one made with lots of vodka, which you can taste at all... )

The owner did follow up with me to say he hopes my next experience will be better, and that they sometimes close early based on client volume. I don't really know how this helps, although I appreciate him reaching out. If I'm already planning on going to Peter Luger then I may drop in- if they happen to be open.

I had my birthday party at Velvet Brooklyn and it was the perfect space for my theme and the vibe I wanted for my milestone birthday. I had a purple themed affair and the event manager, Lily was so helpful and quick with responses from day 1. I initially planned to rent out just the back room which is gives off a nice sexy and low key but, fancy vibe. Then, because I rented a photobooth, I decided to rent out the entire venue for the evening. The price to rent the back room as well as entire venue space is very affordable for the area. Lily helped me with a signature drink that was purple of course, and she was flexible in letting me go to the venue at short notice to get measurements etc for the cute couches and lounge chairs they have in the back room. On the day of event, I ended up forgetting table cloth and wire racks for my food, but Lily saved the day and had a beautiful and sleek table cloth for my cake display and was able to find some wire racks to keep my food warm. My guests were blown away with the decor of the party and the space itself, they loved the drinks and had a really great time. I had so many compliments. One friend/colleague also wants to have her retirement party there next year! Thank you Velvet Brooklyn although this review is 6 months post party! (Event was November 2018)

Came here to secure a venue space for my wedding, checked out the spot. Great vibe and atmosphere. Owner Phil cool guy. Great time and great drinks.

I didn't even order anything but wanted to leave them some love anyway. I came while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant and despite both me and my friend getting only water, the bartender was extremely polite and engaging. The ambiance is smoky (not literally - despite the cigar store Indian at the front), rich, dark, velvety. The menu looked appetizing, and they were playing funk. I'll definitely be back!

Pre-gamed here before dinner at Peter Luger. It was early so there was nobody there...the mixologist made a perfect, hand crafted old fashioned for me and a terrfic mojito (with mint picked fresh that day) for my amigo. She was charming, the drinks were delicious and I had a nice warm feeling as I walked next door. Probably very crowded later on, but early, it's just my speed.

Came here to kill some time before Peter Lubers, and boy am I glad we did! Their mango mojitos are fire. Sheesh! Very friendly waitress as well. Bravo!

Velvet is a beacon of hope in a neighborhood of grimy dive bars, lackluster venues, and boring drinks. It has all of the following: -an excellent playlist (last night, they played everything from Eurythmics to Drake) -drink specials that are both delicious and affordable ($8 mojitos all night) -comfy couches and little tables to rest your drinks on if you're feeling like you want to lounge -sizable space at the bar if that's your jimmy jam -a clean! not grimy! pleasant! bathroom (with a huge mirror) -huge open space Please frequent this establishment. It is wonderful.

Worth killing time here if you're waiting to get in at Peter Lugers, otherwise not worth the trip

Pleasantly surprised. Needed someplace less "manly" after the beef-fest at Lugers. Found a chill vibe, awesome live jazz and tasty cocktails next door. Will come back just for the jazz....

Nice bar. Yummy drinks. My type of vibe. Cute little area in the back and I had a delicious drink with lavender in it. The music they were playing was like old school hip hop and it was poppin. I'll go back when I'm in New York!

Drinks were superb and flavors were bold and authentic ! I had the gingerita and my friend had the mojito which almost knocked us out hahaha . Friendly staff and the interior was very suave and great for date night !

"Great service, crappy owner" I have walked past this place plenty of times on the way to another place in the 'hood. However the other place had an event so I decided to wait for my friend at Velvet. It was kind of a slow night because i was the only person there at 9pm on a Tuesday night. I will say that Sol, the bartender, was amazing and a really sweet woman. We chatted for about 30-40 (or 2 hendricks and sodas) until my friend arrived. Rather than venturing to another place (it was cold), we decided to stay and drink the Tuesday special BOGO sangria. I will say that the sangria was very delicious and had a bit of an alcoholic kick to it. Using the yelp app, I checked in and noticed that there was a 10% off deal. And, I just when I thought that things could not get any better at Velvet . . . enters Phil, the owner. Sol took my phone and showed him the special because she was not sure about it. He flat out refused the deal. I merely asked "why?" Not that it was a big deal or anything but I was just curious. Then Phil spouted off something "I do not have time to go back and forth with your about not giving you a 10% discount on happy hour drinks." or something to that effect. First, of all the yelp did did not say that the deal could not be combined with happy hour deals. Second, I did have 2 Hendricks and sodas ($13 bucks a piece, definitely NOT happy hour prices) before drinking the BOGO sangria. Actually, I spent more on the gin beverages than the sangria ones. Third, you should have explained that to your bartender, who then could have explained it to me. As an owner or manager, shouldn't you have time to discuss questions that PAYING customers may have? No offense, for the majority of the night we were the only two patrons in the bar, so taking 10% of a 56 dollar tab would not have killed the business. OH FYI: There is a contest there where you can win $25 bucks off of your bar tab for taking pictures of you and your friends having fun at Velvet. Buuuttttt, I would not put too much grain of salt on this contest based on my experience of using a yelp deal to save 10% off of my bill. Just a thought. #whatever

Stumbled upon this place on yelp when trying to find somewhere to kill idle time. When I read the name, I was like this sounds, looks cool and might just work in relational the distance to the Knitting factory. My friend and myself both were dressed casually for this concert, so I was a bit concerned about going here. This place is in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, so very upscale. When we arrived there were a group of people chilling outside which was fine, and they made us feel welcomed. **walked in, it appeared to be a small space very red like district like with the lighting of the room, but overall cool chill type of vibe. Next thing I noticed was the awesome music, definitely the type of music that is on my playlist, that had me at hello. Two seats were available at the bar, we scouted the menu and ordered our drinks, great names for the cocktails by the way. It was cool sitting there chatting, drinking and watching Charlie Chaplin play on the television at the bar and listening to the great selection of music. To drink I first ordered, "His favorite past time", I can't say I like the combination of the flavors, it had a licorice flavor which I'm not a fan of. The second drink, I ordered "behave yourself", which was mint, cucumber, gin and I believe grapefruit that one I really liked. When in Brooklyn, I can definitely make this a staple spot.

Came here for a pole exhibit. Very nice vibe and atmosphere. The drinks were really good too. My favorite was the seersucker. The only reason I didn't give this place a full five stars was because the food menu was super tiny and the artichoke dip was a little burnt--I could taste the char. Other than that, the bartender was amazing.

3.5 stars. I was here recently just for drinks. I had their Bklyn lager, and my gf had a glass of Australian red. The place is super-quiet, cozy, and chill. They have some cocktails too, so I'd like to go back soon.

Came to this lounge with my boyfriend and two other friends on a Sunday night for some drinks. They also sell tobaccos there which my boyfriend got and he smoked it outside said he really enjoyed it. The drinks were great! The owner of the lounge was so nice and attentive! Loved the ambiance of this spot. Definitely recommend this cool spot.
