I'm a sucker for a restaurant with some good tacos and this place surely did deliver. Everything tasted so fresh and it was fast friendly service. The location is beautiful and the vibes were perfect. I had the brisket tacos with queso and they were simply amazing. The crunch on the shell was perfect, the meat was tender, and the queso was very tasty. I will definitely be back to try this place again.

Google
Listen, if you are looking for some amazing tacos here in Charlotte then go to Velvet Taco right on Woodlawn Road. I had the Mexi-cali shrimp taco on a lettuce wrap. Hubby had the same on tortilla but he also tried the chicken and waffle taco. Then, since it’s our anniversary, we tried the red velvet cake as well. Everything was wonderful. And the general manager, Bessie was so nice. All the staff were friendly. Top notch and affordable. Hubby snapped the picture while I was stuffing my face. Happy Anniversary to us.

Google
Consistently delicious. I’ve been here a handful of times and have always left satisfied. Great portions for the price. The buffalo chicken taco is 10/10.

Anna R.

Google
Tacos were fire, and we tried the elote guac for the first time and it might be the best dip they offer. I order takeout quite often from here and the quality is just the same as it is when you dine in. I love the to-go packaging.

Google
Amazing experience at Velvet Taco! The food was absolutely amazing—full of flavor and very satisfying. Aaron, our server, took great care of us and gave excellent recommendations. We tried the Chicken Tikka Masala taco, and it was outstanding. Great service, great food, and a place I’ll definitely be coming back to. Highly recommend! 🌮🔥

Google
My friends and I have a tradition of going here every single time after dance! The spicy Tikka chicken taco is fantastic. This place has a cozy yet upbeat ambience, and the staff is always a vibe, especially Aaron!

Google
I love Velvet Taco, especially this location! I’m typically pretty skeptical of restaurant chains that claim to have good tacos, but I was pleasantly surprised when I checked them out for the first time! Their diverse menu is what really caught my eye; they literally have food for everyone! As a former vegetarian/vegan, I loved seeing that they had so many veg options!! I loved the curry tacos. My partner is the opposite and loved the brisket. The red velvet cake is amazing too. Overall, it’s just a great place for a delicious casual meal in my opinion. It’s also clear that the manager, Aaron, values great customer service and really cares about the place!

Google
This is not let me repeat not your authentic mexican taco restaurant. We liked the flavors of the tacos and the fusion they have. It is different but good. The flavors are hard to describe. Although not my favorite place I would still say you should try it for yourself at least once. The only negative I can think of is the meat on chimichurri steak wasn't tender. The elote (corn) was good as well as the queso blanco. Service was fast the gentleman was helpful and friendly. We both got a two taco combo.

Yelp
We have been to velvet taco before, but tonight our visit was made extra special by Brianna, who took our order. She was kind and friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and really just made my family feel welcome. We had our 3.5 year old, 3 week old newborn, and mother in law with us, so ordering was a little hectic, with lots of questions, and Brianna was so cheerful throughout. Love the tacos, especially love the queso at velvet taco, but Brianna was the difference maker tonight. 5 star service.

Yelp
On a prowl for a good fish taco led me to Velvet Taco. It was my very first visit, the employees were very helpful with helping me decide on which tacos to order based off my personal preferences. I went with the Fish n' Chips and Mexican-Cali Shrimp tacos. Both were flavorful. It was too much of the curry aioli on the fish taco making it a little messy, although I did appreciate the sriracha aioli being replaced with the avocado creama on the shrimp tacos. The blue Tortilla Chips were crispy and the guacamole was fresh. I would for sure visit again.

Yelp
Great nachos at a competitive price! Love that I could easily sub and remove items though online ordering.

Frank G.

Yelp
Great food. Very different type of taco place. Straight forward and all scratch made.
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
I love Velvet Taco! The tacos are always delicious. I love their buffalo chicken taco. This time I got the 2 taco combo with the Mexi Cala Shrimp Taco too and queso and all was delicious. Love their outdoor seating area as well.

Yelp
I'm not really into tacos but I would come back to eat here. The decor is fun and rustic. The provided great customer service. My daughter got the wrong taco and they fixed the order immediately. I can't remember what I ordered but I can remember the sangria, I had to order another one! I will be back. (The pics don't do the good justice)

Yelp
Came here to try some different flavours of taco. We ordered 2 combos, that comes with chips a dip and a drink. I got the chicken and waffles taco and the birria one, my husband got the birria and tikka chicken. We both loved the birria, it was nice and crispy and so good. We also got the 3 dip trio. So over we got the blanco queso, curry taco, guacamole, elote and the salsa one. My husband liked the salsa one which seems like they roast the tomatoes and cook it. I LOVED the elote one. It tasted so good with the corn. The kids had tenders and tots. This place had a nice vibe to it and very clean. I'm glad we stopped by. The lady helping at the cashier was very nice and we also got extra chips to go with the dips we couldn't finish.

Yelp
Tacos I tried: spicy tika chicken taco mexi-cali shrimp taco These tacos tasted so good and filled me up really quickly. The menu has some really cool taco options. I also got a frozen margarita which was just okay. Overall, Velvet Taco was super cute and it was fun to try at least once.
google avatar

Amber M.

Yelp
Not a fan anymore After yesterday's visit, I just can't do their food anymore. After watching an unsanitary situation (gloves being used to wipe tables down then serve up food) Plus the food is super spicy for me. Margaritas are good though!
google avatar

Aaron D.

Yelp
This place is the bomb!!!!! Aaron is the man! Love the brisket taco! Best service in the shopping center
google avatar

Rico M.

Yelp
Velvet Taco never misses! I had the shrimp taco and the steak taco--both packed with flavor and freshness. The ingredients were super vibrant, the tortillas were soft and warm, and the chips on the side were a perfect crunch. Fast, flavorful, and fun vibe inside.
google avatar

Jaleesa S.

Yelp
First time visiting this place and I would definitely return. I love the layout and theme of the restaurant. Food was great, service was quick.

Nancy B.

Yelp
Gary was amazing! He was so nice. Food was delicious!!! Thank you for a great experience!!!

Yelp
The most flavorful tacos you will ever try. Stopped by for lunch and as soon as you walk in the unique decor and atmosphere already grabs your attention. Ordered the chips elote & blanco queso and wow there is nothing more special than this combo. The queso was fresh and definitely high quality cheese, the elote was by far my favorite loaded with toppings alongside the blue corn tortillas. Then comes the tacos, the spicy tikka chicken is a must try. The chicken was so juicy yet crispy. The queso birria taco was my least favorite, wish it had more meat and it was lacking a bit in seasoning. The Kobe burger taco is delicious, definitely threw me off that it was a taco instead of a burger. Last but not least the mexi-cal shrimp taco is a winner, fresh shrimp alongside authentic Mexican flavors. Can't go wrong giving this place a chance, highly recommend.

Bill G.

Yelp
Stopped in after a movie and was surprised at the creativity of the menu! Enjoyed a taco inspired by the Cuban sandwich and it was really good. This place is more of a fast casual place and the service was great. Perfect for a quick bite.

Deborah O.

Yelp
Food is always good ! My kids have tried everything on their menu and have several favorites! Service has been great and always friendly!
google avatar

Valarie J.

Yelp
Nothing better than a good taco joint! It is easy to order using the app or walking in and ordering. There are plenty of seats inside and out. We ordered a variety of options including GF tacos. Each taco was very good. They all were filled up so every bite had everything in it! We also ordered queso and margs as well. You can't get enough of either because they are good but and sadly you don't get enough imo. The tacos are a good price for what you are getting. 4 tacos is easy enough to fill you up esp if you a side or some queso with it!
google avatar

Ameya D.

Yelp
Tacos should be simple. innovative but simple and fast. Velvet tacos on a relatively quiet Saturday evening. fairly straightforward order of 3 tacos. wait time - 30 ish minutes. Had to check in on the status but that was hard because one person was stuffing chips ina bag, another person was on his phone. tacos turned out to be mediocre. been to several other locations and this one was by far the most disappointing

Joey R.

Yelp
Great Food, service, and atmosphere! Plus tons of different options depending on what your in the mood for
google avatar

Shawn L.

Yelp
Yuppie Tacos. The selection is big, the tacos are just alright. They pack them with rice to minimize the amount of protein they have to include. Flavor-wise, not too bad. The most enjoyable was the Fish and Chips, least the Grilled Chimichurri Steak because the steak was too chewy. The Spicy Chicken Tikka was sort of curry-powdered flavor and very messy because of all the rice under the chicken. Overall, there are better Taco places, maybe not with all the unique taco offerings. Give Velvet Taco a try, this is one man's opinion
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
Shoutout Gary he's a great manager, the bowl I got was phenomenal, although had a little too much pico.

Yelp
Great taco place in south park charlotte area. Came here a few times over a multi day stay to try as many variations as I could. All the tacos were very flavorful and I wish there was a venue like this nearby my hometown. My fave was the korean fried rice pork taco but you really can't go wrong with any of the options here. Highly recommend.

Kate F.

Yelp
Great experience! We just moved to Charlotte and ordered from the wrong location. Ike was awesome and made the order at the Park Rd. location even though we paid at the other location... no questions asked! His kindness and willingness to help us out has made loyal customers out of us. Thank you!

Hunt A.

Yelp
I want to love this place because it's GREAT in Dallas... but... compared to other VTs (Dallas, Chicago) I'm Soooo disappointed. Food is cold, margaritas suck and management and staff doesn't care. I've given up and I live 100 yards from the place. Is the other location in CLT better?
google avatar

Yelp
I was walking through Optimist Hall trying to find a cool place to try and came across Velvet Taco. After seeing their menu I decided to try a few of their items. I am so glad that I decided to eat here cause honestly these are some of the best tacos that I've had. Their menu seems to be constantly changing so I can't say for sure what will be on it for other people, but mine had a fun combination of chicken, veggie, beef, and fish tacos. I ended up choosing the Nashville spicy tofu, chicken tikka, and buffalo chicken tacos. The two chicken tacos were solid, both had creative flavors for a taco and felt substantial when eating. It didn't feel like I was craving anymore or any less. The Nashville spicy tofu on the other hand was amazing. I was confused at first when I took a bite because it tasted so similar to chicken. A wonderful blend of flavors that isn't too overwhelming in either the spice or the sweet/sour kick. If you're in the area I would definitely recommend trying this place out.
google avatar

Justina B.

Yelp
Velvet taco is the best taco spot in the world. You order and you pick it up yourself. No table service. The Kobe beef, California spicy shrimp, and the chicken and waffle tacos are the best. I personally wasn't a fan of the Cuban pig. Cute interior, and I LOVE that when your name is called they say "it's taco time" Whenever I am in the area I am sure to go!!

Sharrell H.

Yelp
i love the Park Rd location! the female manager and cashier are awesom. great customer service + clean facilities
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
I'm not sure why I don't frequent this VT more often since it's super convenient and I usually find myself in Park Rd Shopping Center a lot. Online ordering makes it super simple to place an order, get the estimated pick up time, and run in to grab your order. I think the crowds when this location first opened probably us why I didn't put it in my regular "rotation" but it seems they've settled into a good pace. My most recent order was online and walking in to pick up, I was greeted by the staff warmly and the food was waiting for me on the pickup shelf. Keeping with the online ordering theme, there are two 15min spots reserved out front so it's easy to park and grab your order. The parking lot shares with nearby restaurant Burtons so it's usually pretty busy-so the reserved spaces are clutch! Cool outdoor patio and fun interior makes me want to dine in, but it is just hard to beat picking up and eating at home with all the comfort since I live nearby. Not sure if the tacos would hold up with a really long drive but the containers are custom built to ensure no smashing or unraveling- the last thing you want to do is have to piece together something when you are hungry. Overall solid place that I will frequent more often. Online ordering makes it super dangerous too.
google avatar

HairbyFiya S.

Yelp
I had an amazing visit today ! Gary was a great of service of accommodating all my substitutions to my order and being patient while I figured out my order. I love this location and the food was amazing and made to perfection. This location is better than the south end location.
google avatar

Emizz Z.

Yelp
Interesting combination of cultural flavors. A bit on the pricey side but a good staple in south end

Candy F.

Yelp
AMAZING food! So much goodness to choose from yum! The service is great. Everyone was so nice. The manager, Pablo was so nice. We will definitely go there again! Awesome!!
google avatar

Polli S.

Yelp
Lamont at the one on Woodlawn has amazing customer service skills! I watched him while I waited on my order and it was so refreshing to see his attention to details and his kindness! Way to go Lamont!!!
google avatar

K D.

Yelp
I like their menu. Lots of options to pick from. Usually get a kids meal with tater tots. Their red velvet cheesecake is so good. Make sure to get a slice before you leave. Service is easy as you order and they give you a number. When food is done, they call your name with silly words so it makes it fun. The ambiance is take out place. Grab and go kind of food so not a place you spend hours in and get wine and dine. Cool thing is they do sell alcohol drinks.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
I stopped in here recently to grab what was supposed to be a quick bite before seeing a movie across the street. Unfortunately the wait was inexplicably long as the restaurant was not busy. They had a decent special that offered any two tacos a side and a drink for roughly $15 so my girlfriend and I took advantage. We selected the Cuban pork and chimichurri steak tacos along with a side of queso. The food was very good no complaints there but unfortunately they seemed to be having some issues with service. It took about half an hour for our food to come out even though I saw it sitting out for quite some time. We weren't even served the queso we ordered and I had to go back to ask for it. I wasn't the only one frustrated as I witnessed a door dash driver wait as long as we did until his order cancelled on him. This was especially surprising because the restaurant was not busy so I have no idea what the holdup could have been. We are lucky we went extra early because if we were in a hurry to get to our movie we would have had to walk out without our food. I will give the other location a try but I can't say I'm in a hurry to get back to this one.
google avatar

Andi M.

Yelp
I've eaten at this location several times, and service is always fast and friendly. I have tried their spicy chicken tikka, fried paneer, falafel, shrimp & grits, and fish & chips tacos. I've also tried their red curry queso, and it was fantastic. I like that Velvet Taco offers low-carb wraps, such as the lettuce wraps in the falafel tacos. But I need a fork to eat the lettuce-wrapped tacos, as the lettuce usually tears after a few bites, making them a bit difficult to eat with just your hands. Regardless, their flavors are fantastic, and their portion sizes are excellent for the price. They have plenty of seating both indoors and outside. I don't go to SouthPark often, but when I do, I love stopping at Velvet Taco for lunch!
google avatar

Tameka G.

Yelp
Looking for the best tacos here is where you need to be! I think this is my new favorite taco spot. I had the grilled steak taco, fish n chips & the barbacoa nacho it was all soooo good. My hubby loved it too. I got the tender, chicken quesadillas & tots for my children they enjoyed it all. By using the app for the first time I was able to get a free queso we enjoyed that too. For dessert I tried the red velvet cake and it was pretty good too. My family will be back for more.
google avatar

Rose E.

Yelp
We really liked their tacos at Optimist Hall, so had to check out this new stand alone location in Woodlawn Road. We wanted to dodge the crowd, so arrived before 5 pm...and luckily, we had nearly the whole place to ourself! First of all, I was impressed with the fairly spacious layout, cute artworks and props, and even with its cool overhead music. Then the Tacos! My husband and I both tried 3 different varieties...Can't remember the 3 that he had, but I chose the Mexi-Cali Shrimp, Spicy Tikka Chicken and the Korean Fried Rice. Well, all 3 were packed with flavor...and full-on delish! Although the Korean Fried Rice didn't look or taste authentic Korean at all (why Pineapple, I wonder lol?), it was really, really good! Guess that was my fave, followed by the Spicy Chicken Tikka. My husband loved his 3 choices as well. Also, we ordered this Elote & Chips, and loved it!! The only negative from this experience was how disorganized the Tacos were brought out (for pick-up, that is). Instead of making it 3 and 3, they put 4 in one plating stack, and 2 in another...and it was near impossible to tell which taco was which. We had to go thru the receipt...'cuz supposedly they were in order that way? However, it was not. One of the tacos were out of place, and we happened to catch that. Next time, I will definitely make a specific request to put my Tacos together in one plating stack...instead of just botched together near randomly! Honestly, this was such a mess, I almost dropped a star, but thanks to their tacos being so amazing, I decided to drop all 5 stars. Hopefully, things will be delivered in a more organized fashion on our next visit? Overall, we loved their Tacos, and even the cute place itself. Yep...we'll be back!

Yelp
My first dining experience of 2022. Sigh! I so wanted to love this place. I'd heard great things about the optimist hall location, so when I saw the park road location I couldn't wait to try it. Ambience: Located it the awesome park road shopping center, next to Burton's grill. The bright purple sign is hard to miss. Well lit, with lots of seating. The goods: So, I paid $15 for two tacos and a Mexican coke. I ordered the tikka chicken and the shrimp taco. My food came out quickly. Once I tasted I understood why. The tikka was cold, filled with a ton of rice and not much else. The shrimp taco was terrible. There were three tiny shrimp, a bunch of slaw, and even more tomatoes and corn on top. It was also cold. I ended up eating the tikka chicken, but threw the shrimp taco away. I left hungry and frustrated. Ended up going to the roasting company. All in all, I don't think I'll be back. It didn't live up to the hype.

Trish O.

Yelp
Great experience as usual! Gary was friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jeanie K.

Yelp
Classic guacamole was good! I really enjoyed #17 Mexi Shrimp taco as it was full of flavor! The #15 Salmon taco was not my favorite, but it came on a corn tortilla which I'm not the biggest fan. I should have paid more attention to that, but lesson learned. Great spot for lunch and I look forward to returning to try other food items!

Kenya J.

Yelp
Today was our first time at Velvet taco on Park rd. The manager, Gary was very nice and gave us all the details about the tacos. The tacos were great. The customer service was great. We will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Tara H.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Thursday for some tacos... the tacos, desert & margarita were everything! Friendly service and the manager B was so helpful!!! I will be returning soon.
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
Came here with a friend and enjoyed the shrimp n grits taco and the weekly special taco as well as a Ranch Water and red velvet cake. Everything tasted good and the staff were all friendly. Highly recommend the Ranch Water drink! Will definitely be back to try more tacos.
google avatar

Matthew E.

Yelp
This was our first time here. Not really impressed. We had to wait over 25min to get our food. Food was ok. Not worth the $50 total at all. I wouldn't make a special trip for this food and if I was in the area I'd probably look elsewhere. Just not all that good. BUT I do admit the sweet Chile shrimp was really good.

Mark W.

Yelp
Quality of food is poor. The crispy pieces in the Picnic Taco are very tough and feels like you are buying into a bone. Chairs are horrible.
google avatar

Krystal B.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best tacos places with quick service! If youre looking for a quick bite with great vibes, this is it! I highly recommend the Nashville Hot Tofu taco!!! So yummy!
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
If you like tacos that are out of the ordinary, you should go here. These combinations make you think outside of the box. And they work! I love a funky taco! so we really enjoyed them!
google avatar

Pamela A.

Yelp
We have been waiting for Velvet Taco to open for some time so, when the doors finally opened, we made sure we were some of the first people through the door, relatively speaking. We ordered more than we could eat so we could try six varieties, and on top of that we got their elote, as Mexican street corn is my jam. Not literal jam. I just like it lots. Anyway, I would say the results were mostly positive with a few "meh" to throw out there. Like most taco fusion places, the mix-and-match seasonings and sauces are what make or break the offering. Velvet Taco has excellent ingredients that are well prepared and fresh, so IMHO it comes down to what flavor combinations spark the interest. I happen to feel like on some dishes, they add too much to try to get the desired outcome. Take the chicken and waffles, for instance. Awesome concept I was down for 100% until I saw the gravy part. Husband loved it. I did not. Conversely, I appreciated the complexity of the Weekly WTF Taco, which was Chicken Cordon Bleu. Simply wouldn't have been as good without any ingredient. The least favorite for both of us was the shrimp and grits, but YMMV because I disliked the remoulade and my husband thought grits in a taco was weird. Lots of people do like it. We just didn't. The fish and chips and Cuban were spot on, too, and for those who prefer the less avant- garde, go for the flank steak. Oh, and the elote was delicious. We would have liked the place better if it had been a little less pricey and maybe some combos were in the offing, but overall we really enjoyed it. Seems to have something for everyone.

Aleeza L.

Yelp
These tacos rival the ones I've had in Austin! Since going vegetarian it's hard to find interesting tacos that aren't just grilled vegetables. The cauliflower, falafel, and tofu were all fried to perfection. Messy but still held together. The tots were delicious with a couple different cheeses and the egg was perfectly goopy. The staff was super friendly, especially the cashier Rebecca. I think we've found our go-to taco place!
