Velvet Taco

This is similar to Agave & Rye, but Velvet Taco is more of a fast food format instead of a restaurant/bar style as Agave & Rye. Agave & Rye has a full bar while Velvet Taco has a limited alcohol menu. I had the WTF, peach & burrata, Mexi-Cali shrimp, grilled salmon, and fish n' chips. All of them were well seasoned and delicious. They were loaded with ingredients and tasted pretty fresh. This area is hard to find parking, but this location has a small parking lot beside it. But it's probably paid parking.

This place is trendy with unique tacos. I got 3 tacos one of them was the taco of the month. They were delicious. The place had nice outdoor seating. I definitely recommend it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Velvet Taco absolutely delivers! I tried the chicken & waffle taco and it was fantastic—crispy, flavorful, and unique in the best way. I couldn’t decide what else to get, so I asked the guy at the register to surprise me, and I was NOT disappointed. Great food, fun vibe, and super helpful staff. Definitely a must-visit if you want tacos with a creative twist!

First time trying this place. Shrimp bowl was good maybe a bit too spicy for my liking but overall fresh and well flavored. 3 stars for atmosphere on patio, definitely needs deep cleaning, way too many bird waste everywhere, it looks unsanitary.

I went after midnight with a group of 4. They were pretty busy but food came out a decent time. The staff were really friendly and the gm Sarah was super sweet and helpful. Food was really good and the velvet cake was moist. The overall atmosphere was really nice too. We will be back.

Just moved to the CLT area and lemme tell yall something, after a long day of moving this was just what me and my friends needed. Megan, Nick, and I were warmly greeted as soon as walked in with smiles and positivity! We were informed about the details of the restaurant and the menu and were helped with any question we had. Now let’s talk about this food. 10/10!!!!! I’m a taco girly and theirs didn’t disappoint AT ALLLLLLLL! The flavor, the portions, the presentation, they outdid themselves and as they should! As people that work in the restaurant industry were are very accustomed to the rights and wrongs of a restaurant. They did everything right! See you next time guys!

The food was amazing. The cashier was very helpful. She told us what was some of her favorite tacos. After we got our food, she asked if we liked the food & even the manager came to the table and conversed with us. The energy was amazing.

We used to love this place. But recently, its gone severely down hill. I mean just look at these photos - it looks like an overgrown, abandoned facility!! If a restaurant doesn’t have the pride to take care of their exterior, just imagine what they are doing behind the scenes with food prep. Its a shame and an eye sore really!

I didn't like it. I like plain tacos. Just normal tacos. Beef lettuce cheese, maybe some sour cream? Yeah, that's it. That said, for people that like gourmet tacos, they have an excellent selection. All my coworkers rave about this place so I have to assume it's just me. Ordering is easy, plenty of seating, and in a great location. Again, I'd have to say this place is just not for me. But it's like me going to a hardware store and complaining that they don't have pizza. They're doing what they do and they do it well.

Most of the time when I come here I feel like I have to wait for a few minutes and I get it maybe they are busy however this time I get here when their app tells me it's supposed to be ready at 8:02. It's now 8:25 and two people have asked me for my name and still no food. I'm about to just ask for the refund and never come back. This is starting to get ridiculous. I went back to look at the time to screen shot it to post but now it shows order complete and no longer shows the pickup time or 8:02. Note it's now 8:26 I'm standing in the pickup area and no one is acknowledged me in several minutes. This will probably be my last time coming here. Update it's now 8:28 only 26 minutes past their pickup time on their app. It's as if they completely discarded my order until I asked the second time and then they finally started working on it. This is ridiculous and I will never come back to any of these establishments after I collect all the rewards I've collected.

Awesome spot in South End for a fast casual dinner. Taco combo is 2 tacos and a side and is VERY filling. Tacos are not miniature and full of flavor. Super friendly staff helped me with recommendations. Ate inside. Perfect Friday night.

We love tacos! Heard a lot of things about this place and couldn't wait to check it out. It's so pretty and vibrant inside. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were nice and talkative. The menu is simple and we ordered their 2 for $25 meal. It included two bowls, chips and cheese and a slice of red velvet cake. We enjoyed our food! The bowl was fresh, tasty and the portion was large. The cake was huge and so darn good! We will definitely return to try more items off their menu.

Absolutely delicious! I circled this place a few times in my recents trips to Charlotte but the line discouraged me to go. Now I know why there's a line! I had the paneer taco and the tofu taco. Absolutely delicious! I loved the atmosphere both inside and out. The Paloma I had was also delicious. This would definitely be in my rotation if I lived in the Charlotte area.

Enjoyed my first time at Velvet taco! It is in a nice location right around the corner from apartments and bars. Each of us got the "Say What! Combo" which is a good combo deal. Two tacos, a drink and a side? Yes please. I tried the Korean fried rice and spicy tikka chicken tacos, side of elote, and free chips and queso (if you download the app for the first time). I'm not a huge queso fan but this one here has a nice kick to it.

I've never been to Velvet Taco before. I knew there was a location in south Florida where I live, and have been meaning to check it out. It worked out great because when I visited my brother in Charlotte, we passed by one and he was raving about it! I see what all the hype is now. I loved that they had a lot of options to choose from. Since I don't eat beef or pork, sometimes it's hard to find places that have chicken options. I didn't have that issue here! My brother was raving about the buffalo chicken tacos. We had a couple of those and paired it with their frozen drinks! Talk about refreshing. I highly recommend visiting this location! Not only was it super clean, but the staff were friendly and the service wasn't bad at all. We didn't have to wait long at all for our food either

Oh my goodness. What an amazing find! I looked at their website and couldn't tell if it was a local place or a chain, but thanks to the WWW I was able to determine the are a chain. I don't expect much from chains, but the place felt very local and custom. I got a few tacos since the price was so low, I assumed they were tiny. They were NOT tiny and I left stuffed! Yum! I had a Paloma to drink (not an amazing job with the cocktail, but it isn't really known for craft cocktails). I had a slice of their red velvet cake; while it was good, I did find it to be very dense and could not eat all of it. The vibe is artsy and the lighting is calm. The menu is easy to quickly decipher and quickly get food in the belly!! Ten out of ten would recommend!! Check it out, you will not be disappointed.

Stopped by after doing a Pedal Pub tour. It was getting late but this place was still open! Most of us tried the spicy tikka taco which was delicious. Prob the best taco here! I also tried the kobe taco while some of my friends got the steak taco or the fish taco. Decent. Really Didn't care for the kobe. This place is handy if you need a late night bite. We had parked in the gravel lot next to it so it was easy to walk over.

Visited Velvet taco for the first time and I was very impressed. The venue is in one of the cool neighborhoods in Charlotte with a lot of bars and fun place to hang out, so it is ideal for dinner or after hours snacks. You order at the counter and they take your order and your name, which will be called on the speaker system when ready. We started with the red curry queso, which was really interesting and a combination of flavors that I would never had thought would taste so good. For the tacos, I tried the chimichurri steak and the fried paneer one. Both of them were very good and the tortillas were warm and tasty as well. The food comes out rather quick which was a great plus. I really enjoyed the concept, the mix of different flavors and the fun open and welcoming environment. Can't wait to go back!

The general manager reached out personally and rectified the matter and apologized. She has told all of your managers that I could get my taco.

I hate writing this because my hubby and I love this location and usually have great food! I hope to update this later if anything changes. Today marks the second time that we've gotten the Birra Duo tacos and they are mostly empty. Very little meat and almost no cheese, so they were like eating just tortillas. We almost always love the tacos, in general, and the evening staff is usually super friendly. Today's lunch visit was the opposite and I hope for positive change in the future and consistency in better Birra tacos.

This taco place is so good! Very small but great service. You go up to the counter to order and it got busy so it does take a while was the only downside. We did tableside order with qr code but they seemed a little confused by that. Food was so good! A little spicy but delicious! Definitely would come back.

Loved this place! It's counter service with a variety of places to sit both outside and inside, love the decor as well. There is a variety of tacos from chicken, beef, pork, fish, and vegetarian. I went with the smash burger and rotisserie chicken and both were SO flavorful. My husband got the spicy tikka masala, Korean fried rice and chimichurri steak. I tried each of them and they were all good, chimichurri had more of a kick than I was expecting but still good! they have a kids menu and my daughter got the cheese quesadilla. They also have high chairs for both the low top and high top tables which is great! Will definitely be back!

Uber Eats driver was fantastic. The first order didn't arrive from 6:49pm. I reordered at 9:04pm. The restaurant gave the driver the order from 6:49 in place of the new order. The bag has the 6:49pm receipt. They did not make a new fresh order and gave me 3 hour old cold stale food that could have caused health issues

I was surprised this was a fast casual price upon walking in but it sure was quick and delicious! I had the chips & queso that was the perfect portion. I also tried two of the steak tacos and the flavor was fantastic. It is a bit pricey but it checks out in taste, so definitely want to come back. They also have deals on Tuesdays!

I've visited Velvet Taco a few times and it's a good option for fast casual Mexican. You order when you enter the restaurant so there is not much staff interaction. The restaurant has a fun colorful vibe and they have a big menu with classic and quirky taco options. I've tried many different flavors and have never had one I disliked. I will say, I was super excited to see their new combo option - 2 tacos, choice of side, chips, & a drink for $14. Great deal! Except they give you literally 6 chips and the side of queso, quac, salsa is huge! Makes no sense. I will return to Velvet Taco in the future!

Stopped by for a quick bite after getting my toes done & this place did not disappoint! Tacos were so good, place is cute & nice staff!

Yum! Tried the Hawaiian tuna and the chimichurri steak as well as the spicy cheese dip which was delicious! The service is fast which is much appreciated for a quick lunch. Lots of space to sit at this location - both indoor and covered outdoor

Waited a long time and no one came to take our order at the counter Once we did order the food was prepared very quickly and came out hot. The trip dip was great, guava was actually fresh, chunky and delicious. Tacos were great combinations of flavors and textures. 2 for each person wild have been enough! Parking available on street

Velvet Taco is always a great place to go and get a quick bite to eat. It's always the friendliest staff( especially at this location). Always greeted with a smile and an occasional laugh when I decide to make a joke. The restaurant is always clean and the staff makes sure to clean up leftover trash even though "this ain't your Mama's house" rules apply. The Baja Shrimp Taco is my fave and usually my go to. It never disappoints

Ok.....I can dig it. Not the run of the mill taco joint. Thinking out of the box here. I had the red curry queso. Zesty and cheesy but barely taste the curry but I appreciate the thought. Elotê queso was pretty good. When your order comes up they scream your name and say "ITS TACO TIME". HAH!!!! Guac is good, creamy. They put chimichurri on top. They only have blue corn tortillas. Tajin, sugar or salt rimming for margaritas. CVS tequila though. Gonna take about 4 to feel it. Lol. Tikki chicken had decent flavor but I don't know about rice on a taco. Shrimp chili taco was decent. Rotisserie was good. Brisket nachos are alot for one sitting. I would definitely come back. There real good on pricing. You have to clean your tables yourself. But after you eat a taco you will forget all about it. C ya soon my friend.

After leaving the Puttery, this was a great end to the evening. Loved the red curry Queso. My sister and aunt loved their food as well. Staff was great as well and entertained our shenanigans lol

I like velvet taco a lot and order frequently but I'm reviewing their food tonight because an issue that has become reoccurring. They have Elote which I love and every time i get it, it seems they don't wash their corn well at all because I consistently get the silk in my corn and this time there was so much of it I was pulling out I had to reheat my food to even get as far as you see I have. I kept choking on it. Please wash your corn better! Other than that no complaints.

This is the best taco spot in Charlotte! Every taco is tasty and delicious! I typically order the brisket taco and it's always good! The service is patient and knowledgeable about the menu as well. This location has much better seating and outdoor seating! Very nice restaurant! I'm always here!

I wanted this place to be spectacular but it was just OK. I tried the Nashville Hot Taco, the Pork Belly, and the Fried Rice Taco. With everything going on in the tacos I thought my mouth would be exploding with flavors, but it was just meh. Nice outside patio for eating, and spacious inside.

I have been to several of the Velvet Taco restaurants across the country - This one was no different. They had high-quality ingredients and the proportions were great. Service was friendly, helpful, and speedy. We ordered 6 different tacos and needed dietary substitutions on 3 of them. The staff was polite and and the food was perfect. I think it is great when establishments keep their standards high and consistent, and with Velvet Taco here on Hawkins - that is what we got.

Velvet Taco has a large selection of Tacos including several vegan options and a FULL Gluten Free menu.I opted to swap my tortillas for lettuce and they came out PERFECT! The new shrimp taco were a 10/10 and the guac was made to perfection! Although this was my 1st time at Velvet Taco I know ,for sure, that I will be coming back soon! The staff was so helpful with explaining the menu and I was so impressed with how quickly the food came out! Side note: The location makes for a great date night location as well for a casual bite! The vibes are so nice and there is plenty of indoor or outdoor seating too!

Velvet taco is such a unique experience as these are not your typical traditional or American tacos. The vibe is very eclectic in my opinion inside of the restaurant. The staff is typical nice as well. I really enjoy the mexi Cali taco which is their version of shrimp taco. The chicken and waffle taco is my second favorite next to the mexi Cali of course. There are two cocktails on the menu available to order, the Paloma and the margarita. I always enjoy the margarita and the vibes at velvet taco.

Nachos are always a safe bet here for a late night snack. The staff is friendly. Outside eating is perfect for a late summer night.

Overall flavor profile is meh considering its price. Torchy's gives more food for about the same price and has more variety.

I don't recommend going to this spot if you have a gluten allergy. An order was placed online through a food delivery app for two gluten free tacos with specific instructions that there was a gluten allergy. One of the tacos came on a flour tortilla, therefore contaminating both of them. This was the second time this happened. When asked for a refund they said they are unable to do that.

The food, space, and service was great! Amazing place to come with friends, wish there were more velvet tacos up north. Blessing and Jamal were amazing, the service was great. Will definitely be coming back.

I go here on and off and have always loved it! I went yesterday looking forward to my favorites and was very disappointed! I placed an on line order and asked for no parsley on my buffalo chicken. Ended up without blue cheese and ranch cream as well! On my queso I asked for no cilantro, I ended up with no VT hot sauce or chimmichurri! So disappointing to take off the things that add so much flavor to each item I ordered. When I have to drive to pick up my lunch only to get back and see it's so incorrect! I have limited time for lunch. Not sure I'll be going back to this location again . I had to eat it, I had no choice.

All I can say is these were the best darn tacos EVER! A lunch adventure during our conference break. 6 of us ventured out to Velvet Taco. I got the Cuban and the Angus Beef taco and they were STUPENDOUS! I ended up getting another Cuban taco(Don't judge me=~). These were the best tacos I have ever had. The Manager came over and I asked him when they were coming to Maryland. Sadly he said it was not in the current plans. Anywho, looking for this spot EVERY TIME. I am hooked!

This is a nice urban hip restaurant. This was my first time at velvet taco. There is plenty of parking outside. They AHEC a rewards program. The staff are friendly and the place was clean. The picnic chicken was delicious. The mexi cali shrimp was tasty. I wasn't fond of the salmon taco, but everyone's taste buds are different. The temperature and textures were good. I enjoyed na single that you enjoy as well.

The food is delicious! The grilled shrimp taco is my go-to. Amazing every time and so full of flavor

Love the variety of tacos--can't really go wrong with any of them and the unique weekly limited-time taco is always worth trying. We love Torchy's when we're in Texas--Velvet Taco gives them some solid competition in the East.

Wowowow! We stumbled upon Velvet Taco after a much needed date night out. We started with mini golf at PUTTERY and finished with some delicious tacos. Every taco was amazing. My wife and I couldn't stop eating the queso! Margaritas we're good and everything was priced well. I enjoy the counter service stile. Ordering and then picking out a table and hanging is always fun. Lots of nice outdoor seating and covered patio seating. We have already been back twice since!

I came by yesterday around 8pm and the food was delicious plus made correctly & the ambience was amazing . Also the server Pablo was very helpful and care about my concerns when I asked him his boss #. He took his time and took very good care of me while was there. Pablo was very busy but was able to take care a full line of people and still wanted to chat with me to make sure my concerns was taken care of. Thank you for making my experience wonderful! I defenitly will come back when he's there ! Lastly him and the darkskin woman (not really sure of her name) are great servers and I appreciate them very much .

Horrible service. Takes 20 minutes to get a single taco. Not worth the wait and won't be coming back.

This was my first time at a Velvet Taco location (I have seen them in Nashville but wasn't expecting one in an up and coming Charlotte neighborhood). This one appears to be new and is surrounded by tons of apartment complex construction. The staff was incredibly friendly and willing to help. I think it's great that the menu has something to please just about everyone (gluten free, vegetarian, lettuce wrapped for those of us feeling chunky, etc). While the tacos are on the pricy side (around $5-$6 each), they are HUGE. They do not skimp on the ingredients at all. I ordered the special which was a shrimp and fried green tomato taco and it was out of this world. The tomatoes were actually halved tomatillos and the shrimp were plentiful. So freaking good. I do wish they had the choice of corn tortillas and a better beer selection. But overall, you could satisfy a taco craving for around $12 and leave here very full after just 2 tacos.

We were looking for a casual lunch stop while visiting Charlotte and this was near us. Plus, who doesn't love tacos. They had a lot of different tacos options from chicken, beef, seafood and veggie. I got the barbacoa brisket nachos which were a single person portion. They had a good amount of topping and the perfect size. I also got a grill salmon taco. Which had a nice heat and good flavor. It was a cool and tasty spot!
