"There’s a new Velvet Taco in the neighborhood. The trendy taqueria just opened a new location on Monday in Preston Forest Village at 11700 Preston Road, according to the Dallas Observer. Find brunch all day here, along with a weekly taco, and homemade red velvet cake — or hand over a $20 bill at the pickup window for the Backdoor Chicken deal." - Adele Chapin

I really like this restaurant. It's was very clean, tables and all. It is a very cozy restaurant. The food was super excellent. Good flavor, color, consistency, texture so it's good to the taste. Highly recommended. The only problem I see was no pictures in the menu so that was extremely hard to pick something to eat, specially when I have no idea what the food looks like so we had to guess. Nevertheless, the taste was amazing!

Came here for my birthday meal. Tonight was my final day of my two and a half weeks of truck driver training over the road. Stationed at the Irving, TX yard and my mentor asked if I wanted to grab something to eat and he would pay for my meal. I instantly thought of this place as I had seen it when we were passing through Dallas on the way to our terminal and was curious about it with a name like Velvet Taco. I looked up the menu online and just knew I had to give this place a try. I've been pescatarian for 15 years now and I'm a fan of fish tacos or any type of fusion cuisine involving tacos. I tried out the Fish' n ' Chips taco. It was absolutely the best. I even received a free slice of red velvet cake. I'm not that big on red velvet, but that cake was premium grade red velvet. Definitely love the food, atmosphere and I will definitely be back to try more when I'm back in the area. I was also made aware that in my home state of North Carolina, they have an establishment there too. I look forward to going to that one and take my wife to when I get back home from my training duties.

Google
The best Velvet Taco I have been to in the Dallas area. The cooks are cooking and the service is 5-Star. Freddy was amazing with his wealth of knowledge and spot on choices of great dishes. I am definitely willing to drive out of the way to come back to this spot ♥️. I was half way thru my Rotisserie Chicken bowl when I realized I needed to stop and give them a 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 for a great meal. They did that 😋.

Definitely a different type of taco but it's pretty good👌 Everything I've tried there has been pretty tasty 😋

Google
The shrimp/chicken tacos were very wet and made the flour taco soggy...very weird. There was very little meat on the brisket tacos. The taste was so-so. I had shrimp tacos at Top Golf, and they were packed with flavor throughout...it's a golf place. The salmon taco was okay. Probably won't visit any of the stores again. Tacos aren't good. The ceiling looks like it has dusty black tiles that weren't taken down. It was a drop ceiling with most tiles removed, but the yellow metal frame is still present. The tables felt sticky, and cushion bench seating has served its time. It is bigger than some of the newer Velvet restaurants and has lots of outside seating. Service was fine.

Google
Cool and convenient location for the Dallas alternative to Torchy's. Quirky fusion tacos, unique and savory queso (just okay chips), and plenty of margaritas and local beer. The current lunch combo is great: two tacos, side/app, and drink for under $15. Solid meal. Enjoyed visiting!

I usually make 2-3 orders weekly from velvet taco through uber and since this location is the closest one to my house the order usually delivers from here. Over the past few weeks I’ve noticed the portions of taco has significantly decreased and tonight was almost half empty! I called them and the only response was that since it’s been ordered through a third party they cannot do anything! Seems they forgot that it was their food and the issue goes back to their service and not the carrier. Will never order again from this location.

Yelp
Another oldie but goodie! I stuffed myself silly at what supposed to be a lunch meeting. Lol I ordered the paneer taco which is my favorite, with such good flavors if you want non-meat alternative. I also had the tots with an egg on top.OMG!!! So good. If you like elotes, try the dip, it's a great addition as a side!

Doreen T.

Yelp
The 4 of us ended up ordering 13 tacos here and left very happy! All the interesting flavors made our eyes really big and really hungry. Love the unique taco racks it came out in, great for photos! Some of the memorable flavors we got was: Rotisserie Chicken Fried Paneer Mediterranean Mushrooms Cauliflower Velvet Gridle Chicken Parmesan Cuban Pig Mexi Cali Shrimp Brisket and Cheese Potatoes added an elote guac because why not? We felt like kids in a candy store except with tacos! What a fun and delicious experience!

Emily A.

Yelp
My chicken tacos were delish- highly recommend the picnic one! Two tacos, a side of chips and queso plus a drink was $14.50- VERY fair price for that much food at this quality level. Enjoyable atmosphere and clean everything- beverage area, all dining room tables and bathroom. Freddy was awesome ringing us up, super kind to my mom and very patient. Get over there- and don't forget to grab some red velvet cake!

Yelp
Outstanding food. Eat here. You will have happy tastebuds and a full belly. Customer service is great. The end.

Yelp
This location has the world's rudest, most entitled, and threatening manager. Velvet Taco Corp should be EXTREMELY concerned that they left her in charge. From the time we walked in, she was rude. She gave us a glare at walking in around 9:00 PM even though they had an entire hour left to stay open. Then, when we ordered she tried to tell me their Margarita/sangria machines were down even though they were fully working right in front of our eyes. After a few back-and-forth conversations, she finally said she would give me my sangrita order. She ran it up on the register and I noticed it was $10 versus the $8.50 that is clearly stated on the label of the sangrita machine. I questioned her about this and she got extremely defensive and said she wouldn't serve me. This went back and forth and she said she could change the price of any of the items whenever she wanted. WHAT?? How is this legal when it's clearly marked $8.50 by velvet taco corporate. As a long time VT eater, I've never had such a bad experience! This manager is a thief and threatening to customers. I will never return back to this location!

Yelp
New to The Velvet Taco and Brian P. helped me make quality decisions to make my first visit the best. Lifetime customer now. Need more cahiers like Brian.

Nikhil R.

Yelp
Best queso. Hands down. This restaurant chain has the best queso I've ever had. So much flavor packed into this cheese dip is absolutely incredible.

Morris R.

Yelp
Great food selection. Friendly staff. Efficiency in ordering and paying. Timely completion of order!

Yelp
I'm from out of town and this is the second review of this particular velvet taco. Not sure about the other ones. But THIS ONE is awesome. Had the breakfast taco and the beef brisket, and both were amazing. This taco joint surpasses Torchy's (sorry to name names) and all the other ones I've been to in terms of quality and size and overall flavor. And the frozen margarita is great. Wonderful.

Morris R.

Yelp
Never not enjoyed everything at Velvet Taco!! Innovative, quality and tasteful! The staff at Preston Forest helps add to the experience!

Peter S.

Yelp
This is a taco fusion place from a Korean flavored taco, to Indian Tikka, even local Dallas favorites like chicken and waffles. None the less the flavors paired really well. Definitely a come to place while visiting Dallas

Lisa R.

Yelp
We went here because it had vegan options. I was excited to go here the menu looked delicious. The location we dined served everything cold, the filling should have been hot . The cauliflower was supposed to be hot. It tasted like it was sitting around for awhile not fresh at all. Tortillas were ice cold. The sauces they put on the tacos were heavy and my tacos had so much sauce they were soggy and wet. Menu has lots of options. I would go back and give it one more try and ask for sauces on the side.

Aleena S.

Yelp
I've been going to this location for the past year with no issues, but last night I got their salmon tacos, (which I've gotten a couple times in the past) and I think it gave me a food poisoning (severe tummy issues ~30 minutes after eating them). It was near the end of the day, so I'm wondering if they used salmon that was just sitting around? Giving two stars because all the other tacos I've had there have been great.

Steve C.

Yelp
Since my last review dated 04/01/2022, VT loses another star for lousy food. Don't know why they're still in business.

Hillary K.

Yelp
Quick eats, and they're pretty tasty with some unusual combinations. (Those who want picadillo with lettuce, tomato, and cheese should look elsewhere.) Service is quick and much of it is self-serve meaning it was awesome. Ambiance is what you'd think for fast tacos, but they have some big tables that invite one to make new friends. Velvet Taco has adult beverages and they offered $5 margaritas is you wore your Texas Ranger gear on the World Series World Championship parade day!!! Go Rangers.

kathy d.

Yelp
Ordered takeout through the app. It couldn't have been easier. Sadly a piece of chicken made it into my nephews food. He had to toss his food. As a vegan, this is a severe no no. He wouldn't let me call to complain.

Jasmine H.

Yelp
Love Velvet Taco!! Food is perfect and the service is always stellar! I've brought many guests here over the years and they always love it!

Project180 L.

Yelp
Great Plant Based Options! I just remove the caso cheese and I happily enjoy my food. You should definitely try it out!

Yelp
Tried the restaurant on Preston. All of the tacos sound so cool! Not so much. I tried the Nashvile Hot Tofu. There's nothing Nashville Hot about it on terms of spice or flavor. Very one note in terms of flavor. The crunch of the tofu was pretty doggone amazing! That and the crunch of the slaw were the only good things about it. My other taco was the slow roasted Angus brisket. The meat was tasty, tender & plentiful, but it was lacking in overall flavor. Neither were good enough to order again. My son ordered the Cuban Pig and the Grilled Flank Steak tacos, plus the "Crisp tots and local egg". I asked of he liked his tacos and would he order them again. He said that while the meat was tender and tasty, he wasn't impressed with the overall flavors and wouldn't order again. He also has refused to go back. The absolute fail of the visit was the tater tots dish. An absolute waste of money, except that the tots were very nicely crispy.....and tasteless. The egg was over cooked, except one little drizzle of yolk. The goat cheese & bacon crumbles were hidden under the egg in a pile & 99% of the tots had nothing on them. The cheddar cheese was a half melted hard glob at the bottom, nested between the tots. I did go back and tried the chicken tinga and the elotes. The chicken tinga taco was so salty and the raita sauce was not a legit raita at all and added nothing to the taste of the taco. The rice wasn't bad, but the moist rice made the taco fall apart. The elotes was OK, I have definitely had far better. They do serve it with a huge amount of chips, if that's how you eat yours. The margaritas are good, but not good enough for me to try anything else there again. ...

Yelp
Definitely understand the Texas hype about this place now, they are literally everywhere in Dallas... & they're even drive-thru because apparently you Texans don't mess around with your tacos/mexican food... or should I say "tex-mex" as you guys call it. Tacos are great, the numerous different style tacos is a pretty cool concept, seems to get pretty packed fast. Chicken and waffle tacos were great except for the fact that the waffle they make it with is so thin that it just falls apart as you hold it.. I'd definitely recommend using thicker waffles in the making of those. The chips had a soggy chip in the mix but they gave us a new bag. Besides that, we had a great time and I totally understand the hype of it all.

Judah F.

Yelp
This is the best Velvet Taco location in DFW. Perfectly composed tacos, great service, and good music.

Michael P.

Yelp
Quality ingredients, great menu choices, and I've tried a few different tacos in the few visits I've made to this restaurant. A solid, good taco chain!

N Q.

Yelp
Great for a fast food joint--and it was fast. Had the fish & chips taco and it had a big chunk of crispy fried cod. Will return.

Livia M.

Yelp
10/10! Loved the weekly Hawaiian poke and the sweet chili shrimp taco. I will definitely make this my new lunch spot!

Nicole B.

Yelp
The velvet taco offer is a variety of tacos with a twist on taste. Instead of the generalize, Mexican taco, you can get unique tastes, like tiki masala or hamburger, but on a taco. I feel that they have pretty fast service. Each taco cost about five dollars. I do not recommend the guacamole.

M D.

Yelp
Food is so unique and amazing!!! Such incredible flavors. My favorite taco is the Buffalo Chicken Taco!!! Just the right amount of spicy goodness. And the Brisket Taco is delicious. I've ordered almost every item on the menu at least once and EVERYTHING has been Yummy!!!

Temina C.

Yelp
I love that they are opened until 12am. I came here very late at night and I got a few tacos but every time I come here I always question why are all the tacos so salty? I tried the Korean taco with pork for the first time and I couldn't even enjoy it because the pork had so much salt on it. Same thing with any brisket taco. Everything on the menu is great honestly but I find it hard to enjoy any of the tacos because of this. I love the elote, nachos and red velvet cake they are absolutely delicious and I will be a returning customer but I felt that I needed to express my concerns about the meat here. Maybe it's brined too long? Not sure but if you got high blood pressure issues stay clear from all the tacos.

Sharon D.

Yelp
I know that this is a taco joint BUT I must start off by saying that the RED VELVET cake is to dieeee forrrr! Get it! The tacos are yummy and worth every penny! At first, I thought that they were a little pricey, but when I saw all the delicious toppings that were packed on top...it made it worth the price. I tried the Green Chile Pork, Slow Roasted Angus Brisket and the Beer Battered Cauliflower. All of them were delicious but the Brisket was my favorite! The tacos are a good side so I would only recommend getting 2. Can't wait to go back and try more of their menu.

Mele M.

Yelp
#3 Spicy Tikka Chicken was everything and more!!! Highly recommended by the store manager and every bite was worth it. #2 Rotisserie Chicken was yummy. 24 process and straight off the bomb amazing! Korean Fried Rice could have done without. #15 Grilled Salmon w/ cold slaw in it Red Velvet cake let's just say stick to tacos. I bake so I'm choicey desserts But yes savory and best experience Advice: order one or 2 at most with a side. There super filling and I am a bigger girl!

Maurice F.

Yelp
Cauliflower Tacos FTW!! Staff is always great. App is great to pre order and pick up. Good rewards. We love this place.

Yvette 'Divie' E.

Yelp
I was in Dallas for the weekend and in need of a late night snack for take out. Velvet Taco's late hours made this a winner. I got the grilled salmon taco (gluten free) and the tater tots with an egg and no cheese (kind of like reliving childhood). Great value for the amount of food. I heard the red velvet plus sauce was amazing as well. Wish they would have checked vaccination status but maybe that's not a Dallas thing? Great for a late quick bite at a reasonable price.

Belinda C.

Yelp
There's so much hype about this place. We finally tried it. Won't be back. Brisket nachos were the best thing we tried but they are overpriced for what you get. We also ordered the picnic chicken taco- meh. And the calamari taco- not good. Had to get my son chicken tenders because he hated his taco. Oh....well! This San Antonio girls says this is not what a taco place should be. Frozen Rita was fine.

Urvi D.

Yelp
I love the combos here. Always fun yo see what they are putting together. Great to grab when you are a little hungry or.just need some flavor ! Love it here.

Niki P.

Yelp
Another fantastic location. Very clean, very friendly staff who pay attention to your needs and have lively conversation while serving quality food in a timely manner. The menu and taco of the week are always a very eclectic selection you simply cannot recreate nor find elsewhere.

Christiane M.

Yelp
yum! the guacamole had great flavor and was very fresh. and we ordered 3 of the salmon tacos on corn tortillas which are spicy but very good and have a pretty big piece of salmon for a small price

Outthink J.

Yelp
We enjoyed the atmosphere and of course the tacos were delicious! This was one of our party's first times at a Velvet Taco. Will be back!

Jenny J.

Yelp
I was in town for a wedding and all I ever heard were people raving about this place! I knew I had to stop here before I went home. I knew hands down I wanted the chicken tikka taco - being an Indian, this was a no brainer for me. For my other choice, I asked the man taking my order for a suggestion and he suggested the brisket taco. Tacos come in servings of 1 taco and are kinda pricey - $4-$6/taco. I had the chicken tikka taco and was disappointed- it was pretty bland, having no spice whatsoever. The brisket taco however was so juicy and flavorful. Unfortunately, I got too full and couldn't finish it but it's definitely worth it.

Arun P.

Yelp
My first time to this location of Velvet Taco and was not disappointed. The menu is the same and the staff are friendly. The space is much larger with a lot of outdoor seating. The tacos lived up to the Knox and Henderson standards and the margaritas were good. I like the casual atmosphere and the fact that people are not waiting for a table as you finish your tacos. Nice to see branches of Velvet Taco open up, as long as they maintain the quality and standards. Thumbs up to this place!

Amy E.

Yelp
Great tacos and the backyard chicken deal is a ton of food. A whole chicken, 2 elotes, and tortillas. Yum!

Luna G.

Yelp
Rude managers and crappy tacos. That's what this place is. I was given the wrong taco so I asked for it to be remade I am gluten free and the chicken was definitely NOT! So I asked to have it made gf the manager turns around and says "why did you take it then" as if it was on me they called my name and I walked away with the tacos. First of all beyond rude and disrespectful. No care in the world about how he was responding to me or the fact I'm allergic and had asked gf. Once I was given the second round of tacos, the tortilla was so stiff it broke in half as I picked up the taco. You mean to tell me I can't get a decent corn tortilla for a $7 taco? Worse part our group was eating close to closing I guess. The manager comes out and made a comment they are closed but we could go outside to the patio. Way to kick us out. Then says we could use the patio only to turn the lights off on us 15 minutes later. Horrible management and horrible experience.

James G.

Yelp
Leo was phenomenal and so was Harvey. While the entire staff is always willing to be my friend, these two went above and beyond. I loved the food so much I asked Harvey if I could buy the tikka sauce outright, and he went so far as to call his boss at a corporate office to see how to make it happen. Leo went above and beyond, walking my food to my table after discovering I had hurt my back recently. He was also really good at making me feel taken care of while I was ordering. He was fast efficient, and helpful. 10/10

Kobe P.

Yelp
the customer service was fantastic they were all really sweet and attentive! they were helpful proving suggestions on great tacos! the ambiance was nice! we ate outside with great music at sunset!

Brian B.

Yelp
From the elotes tater tots to the red velvet cake this place rocks. Amazing tacos, service, and chill vibe I love this place.

Jay S.

Yelp
Just can't win at this location. The manager or whoever wearing a blue checkered shirt had just opened the store and already had the sweatiest pitts. I didn't get that close but I'm sure he smelled as bad as his attitude. When the doors opened, I sat down but I was trying to inform the girl behind the counter that I had ordered online and was going to wait for pickup. I didn't want them to think I was some creep just sitting there. That's when the guy in the blue checkered shirt felt the need to yell at me saying they weren't even open yet and it would be at least 17 minutes before anything came out - then, like a little girl, he walked off. Of course those who walked in behind me and ordered at the counter got their orders first despite me having placed an order online 30 minutes prior. What a P.O.S. The dude needs to invest in some good deodorant and should take a course on customer service.

Priscilla A.

Yelp
First off, the honey chipotle taco is so so good! Today is March 13th, you have 3 more days until it's no longer available! It features crisp tenders, honey chipotle sauce, ranch crema, napa slaw, carrots, avocado, elote spice, micro greens and it's served on a flour tortilla. I don't even like avocados (I know, I know) but best believe I ate the entire taco as is. Had I known it was this good I would have gotten two. The Chicken & waffle taco was good but not great. I would suggest eating it in the restaurant, as you can see below my taco broke by the time I got home (around 10 mins later). The waffle taco was sweet & cinnamony, and probably my favorite part about the entire taco. The cabbage slaw was a bit acidic and adds a nice touch to balance out the sweetness of the taco shell. I probably won't order it again, I rather just have actual chicken & waffles. Service could have been better, I only ordered two tacos to go, yet waited almost 20 minutes. Normally I wouldn't point this out, but I noticed that several dine in guests (who ordered after me) were given their food before me.

Sergio J.

Yelp
the service was great! everyone was friendly and attentive! super sweet!! additionally the FOOD!! 10/10 would recommend the chicken and waffle taco it's one of my faves! great place to come!

Christopher A.

Yelp
Taco came before my appetizer and my appetizer was sent out in a to-go container.... Taco was dry and tots did not come with toppings as requested. Seems that as Velvet Taco grows, their food quality has suffered. And have been noticing that at multiple locations.

Raymond L.

Yelp
I had originally wanted to go to the location that had more reviews but this newer location was closer to where I was at the time and decided to make my way here. Spicy tikka chicken- crisp tenders, spicy pepper sauce, buttered cilantro basmati rice, raita crema, thai basil, flour tortilla ($4.25) Fish n chips- curry mayo, malted french fries, house shred, beer battered Atlantic cod, pea tendrils, flour tortillas ($5.25) Ahi poke (raw)- ginger soy vinaigrette, avocado, seaweed salad, pickled fresnos, sesame seeds, himalayan sea salt, micro cilantro, lettuce wrap ($6.75) Grilled flank steak - portobello, white queso, grilled red onion, mex-oregano, corn tortilla (4.95) The spicy tikka chicken was the best one for me and if I had eaten that one by itself, it would have been a 5 star review. If they could make this in to a burrito... this would be perfect. The basmati rice is perfect with the crema in here and mimics a curry. Oh so good. Flavors everywhere. For the fish and chips, I thought it was good but nothing special. Especially at that price..... For the ahi poke, having it on a lettuce wrap is a perfect complement to the fish that are in there but I think they put just a tad too much sour-ish flavor profile in here. It kinda takes over the taste of the fish that you're eating and having both the vinagrette and the sea salt kinda overpowers the entire taco. Wasn't really a fan of it. And I love portobello mushrooms; they're extremely delicious and this place does a good job with its flavor. They have a good amount of seating here and some water and sauces in case you need to add more stuff into your taco. The taco carrier is also kinda cool haha. Tacos.

Sherrin M.

Yelp
I was so happy to see that Velvet Taco had a location off of Preston. No fighting anyone for parking or for a table-I mean who doesn't LOVE that?? This location has way more seating and a more open layout... again.. not being cramped while eating food is a feeling I like. Decor is super cute and the inside is clean! They have a decent sized patio with extra seating as well. Got here before 11 am on a Sunday and there were just a few other families inside. Ordered the chicken tikka taco and tried the new chicken & waffle taco. && as always got some corn because YUMM. The chicken tikka is one of my favorites! So much flavor and has a good kick- I'm still a sucker for hot sauce so I like to throw some on there. The new chicken & waffle taco was interesting! Fried chicken was crispy and had a good seasoning. Loved the addition of the fresh slaw- was crunchy and tangy and unique to a traditional "chicken & waffle". The real kicker here was the "waffle" taco. What an interesting flavor and texture. Definitely softer/ chewier than your standard tortilla and had a sweet/ cinnamon taste. The entire taco came together well. I want to try the monte cristo next time! Will be back to this preston location!!
