On a recent visit to Scottsdale, I finally had the chance to check out Velvet Taco, a spot I'd heard so much about. The restaurant is part of a Dallas-based chain that's well-known for its creative, globally-inspired tacos, and its first Arizona location opened in late 2024. From the moment I stepped inside, the lively, fast-casual vibe was welcoming and fun. The menu options were absolutely fantastic, a testament to their mission of exploring international flavors and serving them up in a tortilla.
As a first-timer, the combo meal is the way to go, allowing you to sample two different tacos and a side. And trust me, these tacos are not your average street size! They are quite large and packed with flavor, so two are more than enough to fill you up. While the price is a little high for a counter-ordering restaurant, the unique ingredients and generous portions definitely make it feel worthwhile.
I was intrigued by the upstairs seating area, and the unique, modern decor and funky murals were really cool. Unfortunately, the tables were a bit sticky, and there was a strong cleaning smell in the air. We ultimately decided to grab one of the tables outside, which turned out to be a great choice for enjoying the beautiful Scottsdale weather.
Ultimately, Velvet Taco was a very positive first-time experience. The food was inventive, delicious, and filling. Despite the minor issue with the upstairs dining area, the friendly atmosphere and delicious tacos made it a memorable meal. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try another unique creation!
