I recently stopped by Velvet Taco and tried their Chicken Tikka Bowl and Fried Paneer Taco. Overall, it was a decent meal that hit the spot, though nothing particularly memorable. The Spicy Chicken Tikka Bowl was colorful and generously portioned. The chicken had a nice tikka spice blend, and I appreciated the variety of toppings including what looked like cucumber, cabbage slaw, and rice. The flavors were there, though the spice level could have been kicked up a notch for my taste. Everything was fresh! The Fried Paneer Taco was interesting. The paneer had a good crispy exterior, and I could see some sauce and garnishes that added visual appeal. The texture contrast worked well, though I found the overall flavor profile to be a bit safe. It needed either a bolder sauce or more seasoning to really make it stand out. The presentation was casual and appropriate for a taco spot, served on parchment paper with a laid-back vibe. Portion sizes were fair for the price point.

On a recent visit to Scottsdale, I finally had the chance to check out Velvet Taco, a spot I'd heard so much about. The restaurant is part of a Dallas-based chain that's well-known for its creative, globally-inspired tacos, and its first Arizona location opened in late 2024. From the moment I stepped inside, the lively, fast-casual vibe was welcoming and fun. The menu options were absolutely fantastic, a testament to their mission of exploring international flavors and serving them up in a tortilla. As a first-timer, the combo meal is the way to go, allowing you to sample two different tacos and a side. And trust me, these tacos are not your average street size! They are quite large and packed with flavor, so two are more than enough to fill you up. While the price is a little high for a counter-ordering restaurant, the unique ingredients and generous portions definitely make it feel worthwhile. I was intrigued by the upstairs seating area, and the unique, modern decor and funky murals were really cool. Unfortunately, the tables were a bit sticky, and there was a strong cleaning smell in the air. We ultimately decided to grab one of the tables outside, which turned out to be a great choice for enjoying the beautiful Scottsdale weather. Ultimately, Velvet Taco was a very positive first-time experience. The food was inventive, delicious, and filling. Despite the minor issue with the upstairs dining area, the friendly atmosphere and delicious tacos made it a memorable meal. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try another unique creation!

The tacos are delicious, though I would go without the rice in the chicken tikka taco. The 3 veggie tacos were really good. Despite living in the Southeast, this is one of the best velvet cakes I’ve had!

Google
Velvet usually one of my favorite places in Texas. Today in Arizona everything was crazy spicy, and I asked for corn tortillas but got wheat tortillas. Salmon tacos are not fun when you sweat from them.

****Edit*** Nov 1st 2025 just a reminder to Velvet Taco who responded to my review; I did indeed sent you an email through your corporate website and have yet to hear back. This place is such a cool building where you can sit downstairs or upstairs and people watch the old Scottsdale area while you eat but the food is not good. We ordered the birria tacos and the chimichurri steak, these were both truly uneatable. The corn tortilla felt like biting into a dry tortilla toy made out of playdough, the cheese inside the taco was chewy and rubbery, the meat was too salt and the consome tasted like someone just threw a package of cheap ramen seasoning into a cup of hot water. The staff was very friendly and we liked the establishment but we really dont understand how they are making business with that food.

Google
Wow, I could not say better things about this place. I think the quality of the food is incredible. Seemed like everything I ate was fresh and made to perfection. I could not recommend the slow roasted beef and the blackened salmon enough! The guacamole is a must try as well! For the quality and quantity of food I feel like the price, especially for their meal (2 tacos, a drink and a side) for $14 is great! If you are in the area this is a must try. I will definitely be coming out again.

Google
Nice place! The tacos were huge, I got the combo with guac and blue corn chips and a drink. Well worth it. The tacos packed good flavors, definitely recommend! Service was lovely.

Google
Stopped in to grab lunch. It's definitely not your traditional Mexican taco spot. I tried the Bacon Smash Burger, Chimichirri Steak, Grilled Steak, Korean Fried Rice, and Grilled Salmon Tacos. All five tacos were delicious, full of flavor, and packed with fresh ingredients. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other items in the menu.

Yelp
I absolutely love the tacos here! And every person who has helped me at this location has been so kind. It's very much a vibe. Families, couples, business : this casual lunch or dinner option is a must. This time I had their weekly special: grilled sweet potato taco. Why haven't I ever thought of this for a taco! So delicious Then for my second taco I had the bacon smash burger taco. let's just say you can't go wrong with this favorite. Of course you can't go to velvet taco without ordering their $5 Kick A**!Margarita. Very nice flavor not overly sweet but high calorie. So just know this is a splurge

Yelp
My wife had first tried Velvet Taco in Austin, TX during a work trip. She RAVED about it, so when she found out Scottsdale was getting a location, she was thrilled. The restaurant is counter service style with two levels of ample seating. The decor was colorful and eclectic. We sat upstairs and we were the only one's eating up there (around 7-8PM) so it felt kind of odd. Note: They are open late on Friday and Saturday night (3AM). There was a heavy smell of cleaning product, which was not the most appetizing, but when we got our tacos, we were happy and the smell became irrelevant. The food came out fairly quickly and was hot (in temp, which is preferred) and fresh! We ordered one of each veg taco. Beer battered cauliflower - queso blanco, sabor hot sauce, avocado, roasted corn pico, candied pepitas, flour tortilla Friend paneer cheese - tomato chutney, tikka sauce, raita crema, Thai basil, flour tortilla Nashville hot tofu - crispy tofu, napa slaw, ranch crema, house brined pickles, flour tortilla Let me tell ya, these tacos are BIG and filling! They are a bit challenging to eat due to the size and some flavors got lost in the deep frying, but I appreciate the fusion of cuisines, making this whole experience quite unique.

Yelp
Velvet Taco in Scottsdale is everything I want in a taco spot--creative, flavorful, and fun. We ordered a solid lineup and loved every bite. I had the Chicken Tikka and Chicken & Waffle tacos--two totally different styles, both delicious. The chicken tikka was bold and flavorful, like a full meal packed into one tortilla. The chicken and waffle taco was super unique with a soft waffle-cone-style shell that worked surprisingly well. Just a heads up--it's best eaten quickly, because the waffle shell does start to fall apart if it sits too long. My girlfriend ordered the Quesa Birria Duo and the Chimichurri Steak taco. She was all smiles the whole time and said both were packed with flavor and super satisfying. We also split the Crisp Tots & Sunny Egg--and wow. It was like a loaded breakfast bowl with perfectly crispy tater tots, creamy sauce, bacon, cheese, and a sunny-side-up egg on top. Easily sharable, but still filling enough that we brought half home. Inside, the place has a cool, casual vibe. There's upstairs balcony seating which is a great spot to hang out--just be prepared for the occasional loud engine from drivers outside trying to show off. Minor annoyance, but it didn't ruin the experience. The quality and portion size were fantastic. Two tacos each plus the shared tots was more than enough, and the fact that we had leftovers says a lot. I'm posting more photos on my Yelp review because the food looked as good as it tasted. Velvet Taco definitely lives up to the hype. Can't wait to go back and try even more of the menu.

Yelp
Pretty cool concept: tacos with a variety of interesting, unexpected flavors. Some combos worked better than others; we got the Grilled Salmon (Asian), Chicken Tikka (Indian) and Nashville Tofu (Southern US). Our fave was the salmon, which came out super fresh, and a good portion. The chicken had a solid flavor from the sauce but the coating was a bit undercooked. You can get most of these as a bowl too. Pretty low key, urban hip-style atmosphere, super casual and relatively affordable with counter service and fast-food restaurant style seating. Cool upper level with outdoor seating too. Thumbs up to the concept.

Yelp
Boyfriend ordered Pork tacos, i ordered the brisket tacos. They were both excellent. But I would like to say the young lady working at the counter had a great personality enough. So I would go back just for that. I'm giving this place.Five stars due to the food and the wonderful young girl working there, i will definitely be back.

Yelp
I love swinging by this place. Who doesn't love good tacos? Velvet Taco is the newest indoor/outdoor patio restaurant in Downtown Scottsdale. This Texas-based restaurant took over the former Second Story Restaurant & Liquor Bar location in Scottsdale late last year. Velvet Taco's taco creations are inspired by different cultures. You can dine on the lower level or on the outdoor patio. Or you can book a room on the second story which has great views of Downtown Scottsdale. I have been able to sample a number of tacos including the Korean Fried Rice, Mexi-Cali Shrimp, Rotisserie Chicken and the Chimichurri Steak. So far everything that I have tried has been good here. Great place for lunch if you are in Downtown Scottsdale.

Yelp
Came in tonight and got the Spicy Tikka Chicken taco and a mandarin Jarrito. I love Jarritos and they've become one of my go to beverages when eating out, and the Spicy tikka chicken here always hits. The person taking my order was kind and accepting of me despite me walking in close to their closing time. She opened my Jarritos right up for me and I went and sat down and my taco was brought out to me a few minutes later. I prefer sitting and eating upstairs there but it is closed at a certain time. I was here right before 10 and the chicken I was served was steaming hot and the taco was nice and crunchy and it hit the spot very well! Definitely a solid little dinner treat for taco Tuesday when they've got the Tikka chicken tacos/bowls on special!

Yelp
Authentic? Not really, but damn these are good tacos. 5/5 for taste and creativity, my favorite taco was the chicken tikka taco. Tacos are good size- 2 to get full, 3 to get stuffed. We sat outside which was nice, a little noisy as it's directly on Indian school. I will definitely come back soon.

Yelp
Great find in Old Town Scottsdale. Prices are very fair for the area. Took my team to lunch and our group all went with the combo plate (two tacos, a side, and a drink for just under $15), which felt like an excellent deal. The tacos are bigger than your standard street taco and much more unique, with each one running about $5-6 on its own. They're flavorful, creative, and absolutely worth it. The setup is casual and fun. Ordering and pickup are on the first floor, with extra seating upstairs and bathrooms on both levels. When your food is ready, you'll hear it called out over the speakers. Parking is also easier than expected. There are a few spots out front, plus a public garage right across the street. Overall, highly recommend Velvet Taco as a fun, different, and tasty lunch spot in the area. Great food, good value, and easy to visit with a group

Yelp
Came to the Velvet Taco after a fun night in old town with friends, we were visiting AZ and wanted to find something that was open late night but not the traditional fast food. When we walked in we loved the vibe of the restaurant, its fast casual set up was great and made ordering with a group easy! I ordered the salmon tacos and they were delicious! The flavor profile was amazing. My husband ordered nachos for the table and we devoured them! So tasty! If you are looking for a fun delicious spot to eat in the area definitely give them a try!

Yelp
One Star is Too Generous My husband and I were out celebrating on a Saturday night, had a few drinks, and figured tacos were a safe late-night move. Velvet Taco had 4 stars--seemed promising. Spoiler alert: it was the worst taco we've ever had. We live in Arizona, home of some seriously good tacos, so we know what a Carne Asada taco should taste like. This... was not it. Who puts rice in a taco? And worse--uncooked rice. It was crunchy in the worst way. Totally killed the vibe. To top it off, the staff (including what looked like management) were glued to their phones and clearly not concerned about the quality coming out of their kitchen. I've never paid so much for tacos that tasted this bad--and I won't make that mistake again. Ever.

Yelp
I moved to Phoenix from Houston in January, and it's always nice to discover a restaurant that's in Houston also having a location in Phoenix. That was just the case with Velvet Taco. Located in Old Town in Scottsdale, I stopped by for takeout on a Saturday evening around 8 p.m. after watching some college football. I placed my order through their website which was a seamless process. Parking isn't easy in Old Town but I found some free parking on a side street close by. Ambiance (4/5): Think of Velvet Taco as a somewhat hipster, but comfortable, taco joint. While we didn't dine in, I noticed that they had plenty of seating downstairs, as well as a second level. Service (N/A): You order at the counter and then they call your order when it's ready, so service isn't a big part of the experience. And even more so for takeout. I will mention that the lady who gave us our food was friendly and greeted us with a smile. The little things count. Drinks (N/A): No drinks on this occasion, but I've been to Velvet Taco many times over the years. They are known for their frozen margaritas. They're tasty and they pack a punch. I'll definitely have to get one next time around. Food (4/5): I went with three tacos: paneer taco, chicken parm taco, and chimichurri steak taco. The paneer taco is one of their vegetarian tacos. I'm not a veggie type of guy, but I do love this Indian cheese. Talk about creativity. I can't say I've had a paneer taco anywhere else in my life. My second taco, the chicken parm taco, sounds exactly like it was. This one is not one of their standard tacos. It was their taco of the week. They offer a different, limited-time taco every week. Also, my first time having chicken parm in a taco format. My final taco, the chimichurri steak taco was similarly delicious. I've had chimichurri at various Latin restaurants and this was my first time having it in a taco. A+ to Velvet Taco for the creativity. And three tacos are more than filling. I could only finish two and a bite or two of the third. Velvet Taco definitely doesn't offer traditional tacos. But, if they're looking for creative tacos, and an affordable meal, Velvet Taco is a great choice.

Yelp
I'd heard about Velvet Taco from some friends and saw their (mostly positive) reviews, so when my husband suggested we head there on a Tuesday night with our party of five, I was game. I typically love a fast casual concept and the unique flavors represented on Velvet Taco's menu sounded great... Sadly, they didn't live up to the hype. The folks taking orders were not the friendliest. I ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala Bowl for myself and ordered some tacos for my kids... since they are kids, they didn't want many of the ingredients and doing this was not the easiest process. The food came out okay and it was edible, but the quality was questionable, the flavor lacking, and all of these items that should have been served warm were more like room temperature. Luckily we enjoyed each others' company and some fresh air as we ate outdoors, but I found the prices high for this concept and the underwhelming experience. Sorry VT - I'll be heading elsewhere for tacos in the future.

Yelp
Wow love this spot! I've had both done dine in and take out and both were excellent! Service is fast and friendly, portions are big, and lots of great options to choose from. Pricing is fair too. I love the steak, shrimp and rotisserie chicken tacos. The curry queso is *chefs kiss* I also joined their loyalty program (on website) as this will be in one of our dining out rotations!!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a must try taco joint! I just wanted to share the experience that I was granted an invitation to this fine establishment... I have to start off by saying this is a fantastic location. As soon as you walk up. Either placement of eating at the bottom or top. Custer service was fantastic. Meeting the GM and seeing his vision was intriguing. But the ambiance was relaxing. Being able to enjoy some delicious tacos and watch the cars pass by was very relaxing. I will definitely be back again and until next time Yelpers and Velvet Tacos!!!
google avatar

Winnie L.

Yelp
Pro-tip: There's a free parking garage really close by. The tacos are on the bigger side, not like street tacos, and the tacos aren't the typical flavor profile either. Highlights: I was really excited about the portions of the tacos here and they have such a wide range of protein, options and different flavor profiles. I really liked the smash burger taco and the steak taco. I would definitely come back to try more. Lowlights: While it's cool they are trying to be adventurous, I just think some of them aren't up my alley like I don't like eating rice inside of a taco.

Yelp
My boyfriend first visited velvet taco in Austin Texas and loved it. We finally got to go to the Scottsdale location and had a wonderful time! I asked the cashier what his favorite taco was which led me to trying out the angus brisket taco - my new favorite taco. I loved the cheesy exterior of the taco shell and the filling was so delicious. I also always go for the birria and buffalo chicken tacos as they're my favorites too. I'd say the brisket topped both of them though! This is a casual order with the cashier then sit down and they'll bring it to your table restaurant which was great for a more casual date night. I'd highly recommend if you haven't checked it out yet.

Yelp
My first (and probably only) experience at Velvet Taco was very lack luster at best. My son and I came in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and should've probably figured right away that with the lack of diners and very cold and bleak feeling inside, we should've gone elsewhere. But I had seen some posts about this spot on social media, so we stuck around, ordered, and sat outside for a little bit more sunshine. I ordered the two taco meal - spicy chicken tikka taco & picnic chicken taco, with chips & queso as the side. Both tacos were lacking flavor; unexpectedly, the picnic taco was slightly better, except the crispy chicken skin was basically chunks of fat on top of the taco, and not crispy at all. The chicken tikka was had an odd flavor, and the rice wasn't ideal. I did like the queso but it would've been better without the extra sauces on top. My son had gotten a kids quesadilla, which was fine. Service was not bad, they brought out our food but I believe the expectation is to clear your own table. Overall, not a spot we'd come back to.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Yum. I ordered a bowl for delivery. I ordered the seasonal veggie bowl and added black beans. I admit, I was impressed. The portion size was reasonable. The veggies were crisp when needed and the flavor was on point. I didn't have to add anything, I wasn't upset at anything that was in it. It also arrived much quicker than I was expecting. Will eat here again.
google avatar

Ian S.

Yelp
This chicken tikka is BOMB!! I got it delivered so I couldn't measure the service or the ambiance. Im definitely gonna be ordering from them again.

Yelp
This was a superb find and all thanks to a friend's Instagram dinner post! I love tacos but being a vegetarian it's really difficult to find tacos with vegetarian protein and velvet tacos is not only considerate for us vegetarians and vegans but also so innovative with their flavors! The fried paneer and Nashville hot tofu tacos are my staple along with an elote dip as I usually order a combo. Most of the menu items are spicy and that's what I love about it. Parking in their private lot is limited but there is a lot of street parking available nearby and there's also a parking garage right next to the restaurant. It's a must visit if you like spicy and experimental food. The service and ambiance won't disappoint you either.
google avatar

Asa P.

Yelp
My personal experience was excellent. Customer service was great, great menu selection of unique taco choices. It's a casual vibe in the heart of downtown Scottsdale. The chicken and waffle is where it's at for me. Tacos held great in flavor, fresh veggies and toppings with house made sauces to elevate these tasty tacos. I'm definitely coming back for another visit. I need to explore more
google avatar

Leanne M.

Yelp
Service excellent. This is not an ordinary taco. The tacos are fully loaded and LARGE. Picnic Chicken..... my fave. Korean Rice. This had more of a kick than I expected then there were hints of sweet Angus #12 Great flavour. Good combination of ingredients that blended well The Cuban was not as tasty as the other three. All in all an excellent taco experience. Will be back

Yelp
I've been to Velvet in Dallas so was super excited to learn it is now in Scottsdale! Went in around 7 on a Friday and it wasn't too busy. Tacos can be ordered al a carte or as a combo with a drink (up charge for a boozy one ;)) I opted for the two taco combo--- which was the perfect amount of food for the price point. Most (if not all) tacos come with rice in them and have a ton of filling so are almost like small burritos. There are so many unique flavor combos to choose from, you really can't do wrong with any. Velvet is located right across the street from Bourbon Jacks, and occupies the space where 2nd story bar once was. There is plenty of seating, but I highly recommend sitting outside upstairs to take in the views of the street. What really stood out to us was the service. From the moment we walked in, to ordering, to receiving our food, and after we ate-- we were met with incredible service from all the staff members. I expect this level from a sit down restaurant, but for this being an order at the counter vibe, we were amazed at how friendly and attentive the staff were.
google avatar

Kat V.

Yelp
The tacos here are huge and tasty. The menus are creative using combinations of various items to transform well known dishes into tacos. All ingredients go together very well and also delicious. The juicy Korean fried rice taco is perfect! I had rice, pork, and tortillas in same bite. The Kobe burger taco is fantastic! I felt like I had a real burger without bun. They can be busy but food came out fast. They will call your name to get up and go pick up the food from their counter. We did not have a chance to try their sauces that available to add on since their tacos are perfectly seasoned and already have tasty toppings.

Yelp
Recently, I signed up via a Facebook ad for my boyfriend and I to attend the soft opening of Velvet Taco, a Dallas taco chain that was opening a new location in Old Town Scottsdale. We found a parking spot in the nearby parking garage that offers free parking until 2 am. Score! The restaurant was buzzing with activity when we arrived. We were greeted immediately by a friendly staff member who checked us in and escorted us to the area of the restaurant by the menu board. Another friendly and knowledgeable staff member went over the menu offerings. My boyfriend decided to try the beef brisket tacos and I tried the dip trio, which included queso dip, guacamole, and elote (corn). We also ordered two of the lime ranch waters, which are bottles of fizzy water with fresh lime juice squeezed into the drink. We sat down and my name was called out fairly quickly to pick up our order from the front counter. The tacos were very generous in size. They are not your typical "street taco." My boyfriend was pleasantly surprised by the size of the tacos. They were quite messy, with the meat juice running down his arm. The tacos were also a bit spicier than expected. The guacamole was perfect. The queso dip and elote corn were also on the spicy side. They were served with warm chips, in which we received a free refill, which was very nice. Maybe we are wimpy (or just used to Sonoran style Mexican food, which is more mild), but everything except the guacamole was quite spicy. Next time, I will try the fish tacos, which are hopefully a bit more mild. Great service and location hours. They are open late on Friday and Saturday nights, for the bar scene crowd.

Yelp
Really excited about this new spot! Velvet Taco has so many unique taco options, I've never seen paired before! Open till 3AM and the tacos are large and a la carte so you can pick and choose, which is nice. Try a little bit of everything. The service was above and beyond, special shout out to the manager Roman, Michael, Benjamin, and Mia, all so friendly and really added to our experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was friendly and quick. Velvet Taco is always a good choice if you want to try unique taco combinations. Food is solid. Active location. Very busy.

Yelp
I've been looking forward to trying Velvet Taco since their AZ location opened, but unfortunately it was only a 3 star experience for me. Starting with the positives, the cashier was very friendly when I picked up my to go order. I didn't stick around to eat there, but the restaurant looked nice inside. The parking lot attached is extremely small - about 6 cars, but there is a free parking garage close by. I enjoyed the chicken and waffle taco, but I found the apple slaw to be a bit too sweet. I also got the burger taco, and while it was good at first, it was dripping in grease and became too heavy and greasy to eat. It was one of the greasiest foods I've had in recent memory. I also got the thai curry queso. It was pretty good, it started off light on the curry flavor but it got stronger as it sat. The main reason for my 3 star review was the chips. Unfortunately they were stale. This was a take out order, but it was only a 5 minute drive and I ate my meal right when I got home. No excuse for stale chips.

Yelp
I'm a Velvet Taco fan based on previous visits to Dallas and Chicago locations of the chain. So I was excited to hear they were opening a location here in Scottsdale. Today I went to satisfy my taco cravings! Service was excellent. Everyone I interacted with was super personable. Also love that they have outdoor deck seating both downstairs and upstairs as well as plenty of indoor seating. Parking of course is challenging in Old Town Scottsdale, and VT only had about 10 spaces behind their restaurant. I had two of my favorite tacos as part of their Combo which also includes 1 side and a beverage : Spucy Chicken Tikka and Mexi-Cali Shrimp tacos. For my side I had queso and chips. The flavors were good on all per usual. The only challenge was the queso and the Mexi-Cali were both served at room temp to cool, the Tikka Taco was the only one that was appropriately hot. A little strange. Anyway grateful for Velvet Taco being a new addition to the Valley!
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and completely forgot to get pics the food was SO GOOD! We sat outside on the patio and while the music was a little loud, it was tolerable. They had just opened this week so there was a steady stream of people coming in but their turnover was on point. If you want different take on tacos, you HAVE to go here! Delicious all round!
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Was super excited to try this place considering all of the hype surrounding the recent opening of their first AZ location and honestly was a bit letdown. Went late night for some tacos-the staff was all extremely friendly, the food came out in a timely manner and the inside was fun and whimsical. Good vibes for a taco spot. When it came to the tacos, I wasn't a fan of most of them. I can appreciate them having such a massive variety of unique tacos, which is fun to switch things up, plus for the price of ~$5 a taco, they were quite large. I did like the flavor on the chicken tikka taco, but this taco along with several others (chimmichuri) had rice in them, which to me made the overall taco way too dense and carb-ey. The birria taco lacked flavor and was dry. Overall my favorite was probably the buffalo chicken taco-it was well executed and the chicken was nicely sauced and juicy. Maybe I am a taco purist, and quite frankly am spoiled by the expansive offering of amazing taco spots in Phoenix, but I personally wouldn't come running here.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
I was pretty pumped to try this place and while it was good it didn't live up to the hype. First I'll start with the good. The shrimp taco was excellent and the best thing I ordered. I also really enjoyed the elote and the guacamole was good too. Now for not so great. The corn tortillas were very average and the salsa takes "chunky" to a whole new level. While the flavor was good it was just too much. One of the weird things is that both my friend and I had tacos that were just not warm enough. Which doesn't make a lot of sense when it was made to order. The steak taco was probably below average and the birria my friend had was also below average. Also, I like my tacos to taste like tacos and these ones just have too many competing flavors. While it's a fun concept I'd rather get some more traditional tacos.
google avatar

Desiree F.

Yelp
First time visitor and heard the hype on Instagram. While I think their food was decent, the temperature was off and made for an average experience. There seemed to be a delay in how our food got out to us which affected the temp. Onto the food. I was excited about the Birria tacos. The flavor was there. And I tried the fried goat cheese taco which was a new experience. It was like eating a goat cheese salad on a tortilla - refreshing. The elote is delicious. The dip trio was good, but had we known our tacos came with chips we would have chosen different sides. Not sure about the actual salsa which was very thick, like a chutney. I enjoyed the margarita, but what I order was considered large...I thought it was a normal size. All in all, I'd try it again. It has a great second level dining space and is a perfect spot for a night in Scottsdale.

Yelp
I used to have velvet taco all the time in Houston and was happy that they had opened a location in Scottsdale! I came for lunch on a Friday - it can be a bit tough to find parking just since it's in old town and might just depend on the time of day. There is a free parking garage nearby though, so that's probably the best option. I ordered all my go-to's including the korean fried rice, spicy tikka chicken, and chicken and waffle. Everything tasted more or less how I remembered from the houston location. I especially liked the spicy tikka chicken, the flavor was great. The Korean fried rice is usually a bit oily in Houston so I appreciated that that wasn't the case here, but think the pork in it could've been more flavorful/tender. The chicken was nice and crisp in the chicken and waffle but think the waffle shell could've been a little less flimsy. Overall, portions were larger than I remember, so I think 3 tacos is perfect if you're feeling particularly hungry; otherwise 2 might be enough. I also ordered the red velvet cake which was delicious and super moist. Would definitely come back again when I'm in town/have a craving for it!

Yelp
Great spot in the downtown Scottsdale area. The tacos are very good. We tried the Spicy Chicken Tikka and Pork duo. Both were very tasty with the tikka being something very interesting and tasty. The service is pretty awesome too. This is a very good spot for large groups.

Yelp
The chicken was crispy and the sauce was really good. The steak was a little too rare for my taste but it was delicious too! The queso side was good too but just got cold really quick (came out hot though). I wish they had more fun nonalcoholic drinks.

Yelp
Today was opening day for this location so it was fairly busy. Even tho it was busy, staff was very friendly and incredibly helpful. They were all knowledgeable about the menu and allergy concerns and were happy to answer all questions and adjust our order as needed. Food: tacos were decent, the shrimp was our favorite Elote dip was very good, but fairly sweet and heavy on the sauce Nachos were very good, brisket was delicious Margaritas are very sweet Atmosphere: plenty of seating both indoors and out Upstairs is significantly quieter and less lively than downstairs They use a microphone to call names when order is ready which is very nice- we didn't have to crowd the counter waiting to pickup our order Menu/allergies: They have gf and vegetarian labeled on their main menu. I was pretty disheartened to only see two gf taco options on the main menu, and no note of corn tortillas that we saw. However, we did ask the staff, and they have a full menu of gluten free options available (yay) Overall lunch here was a good experience, and the late hours will make this a great late night option.

Yelp
Okay, so I HAVE to tell you about this taco place - it's seriously amazing! It's not fancy, definitely not a date-night spot (unless you're into casual and delicious!), but for a quick and super tasty taco, it's the best around. They change up their specialty tacos daily, which is awesome. I think I had a Peruvian one - OMG, it was incredible! I also got another one (I can't even remember what kind now!), but it came with this amazing dipping sauce. Both tacos were unbelievably good! Even their Elotewas delicious, and the salsa? Don't even get me started! It's so fresh and flavorful. It's super casual - you order at the counter like a coffee shop, they call your name, and you grab your drinks (they even have a self-serve soda fountain!). And the best part? There's an upstairs patio! Perfect for enjoying your tacos outside. Five stars from me! You absolutely HAVE to check it out. Service was good as well, she was very friendly.

Yelp
Need a quick bite - Velvet Taco, late night food with your crew - Velvet Taco, family wants to get together- Velvet taco. Somehow in a four day visit to Scottsdale we ate here three times. This place was apparently conveniently positioned. The first time was a conscious decision to try this new place out. From there fate just kept bringing us back. This however gave us the unique opportunity to try most of the tacos. First off - highly recommend getting the combo, which gives you your choice of tacos, a side and a drink. Every taco we had was good, and surprisingly the quality was consistent no matter the time of day (or night). Some of our favorites were: Chicken and Waffle, Spicy Chicken Tikka, and Korean Fried Rice. The menu reads as a world food tour in the form of tacos. So if you find yourself here don't fight it, just let fate take the wheel and order some tacos.

Yelp
What an awesome spot for a Friday night bite in Scottsdale! Our party stopped by Velvet Taco and left seriously impressed. From the moment we walked up and saw the line out the door, we knew we were in for something good--and we were absolutely right. We kicked things off with chips and guac (super fresh and flavorful) and cold cervezas that hit the spot. Then came the tacos--each one a total standout. The beer-battered cauliflower tacos were crispy and perfectly seasoned, and the Nashville hot tofu had the kind of bold kick that keeps you going back for more. The Mexicali shrimp tacos were juicy with just the right amount of spice, and the grilled salmon tacos were fresh and smoky, served with a creative twist. The service? Top-notch. The staff was friendly, professional, and the kitchen moved FAST despite the crowd. The vibe was fun and lively, and we loved the option of both indoor and outdoor seating. There was even a private birthday party happening upstairs, which gave us a peek at their cool second-floor space--complete with more indoor and outdoor seating. Located right on Scottsdale Road just north of Old Town, Velvet Taco is a must-visit. Whether you're a taco traditionalist or like a bit of culinary adventure, this place delivers. We'll definitely be back!

In old Scottsdale. Fantastic Korean rice ! Also enjoyed the queso. This is a super reasonable priced place with fabulous offerings. Go here! Parking may be a little tough but you can find.

Yelp
We have a lot of great taco options in the Phoenix area, but I was still excited for velvet taco to open here. I've had it before and I love all the unique tacos they offer. The Scottsdale location didn't disappoint. I don't know anywhere else i could get a Korean fried rice taco, Nashville hot tofu taco and spicy tikka taco. All 3 were very different, pretty tasty and a fun twist on tacos. I also split a slice of the red velvet cake. I'm not sure how that goes with tacos but still loved it.

Yelp
I've been to Velvet Taco in Austin and was excited that Scottsdale finally got a location. Fast casual service. The line was kind of long when I got there but they opened up another register to take orders which was nice. These are not your typical tacos but more of a bougie fun take on them. That being said the cauliflower taco needed seasoning and the picnic chicken taco had no clear taste profile. They were decent with lots of filling, but their taste was muddled. The queso was good though. I'm hoping that some of the issues were just new restaurant kinks and it will get better.
