Charleston’s Tradd’s Mixes and Matches for Stunning Interiors | Eater Carolinas

"I stepped into a gilded mid-century modern wonderland at Tradd’s — the East Bay Street redesign opened in October 2018 and even took home the 2018 Eater Award for Design of the Year. Any hints of the building’s former life as the fine-dining spot Cypress were long gone: the bright dining room feels refined yet unpretentious, with local art on the walls, brass fixtures, a zinc bar, and touches of animal print. Co-owners Tradd and Weesie Newton drew directly from their own home for the palette, and I learned the pervasive green paint was later designated “Tradd Street Green” by Sherman Williams after they chose the color. Having run Fleet Landing for 15 years and moved back to Charleston from Vail, the Newtons intentionally aimed for a more fine-dining concept that still felt welcoming and comfortable — not a typical Southern, Charleston restaurant — with food that doesn’t require a lot of explanation; as Tradd says, “it feels good to be on East Bay Street.”" - Erin Perkins

🍕 Loved pizza here 🍕 The pizza was delicious — crispy crust, fresh toppings, and perfect cheese! The place has a cozy vibe and friendly staff, making it great for hangouts. However, the chicken soup was disappointing — too bland and watery. Overall, a good spot for pizza, but skip the soup next time. 🍕

We were in Vail in the off season so not a lot open. But so glad Vendettas was! The smell drew me in! I saw a pizza on someone’s table and knew what I wanted!! We chose the W. V. A and were not disappointed. Crispy crust! We started with the burrata which was equally delicious. Our server was very friendly. Vendettas hit the spot!

Google
The food was good, the service was great, and the overall experience is what you would expect. We both ordered chicken parm as the main dish. It was very good, but I do wish they would give a larger piece of chicken. A hack I recommend is to order individual slices of pizzas as your appetizers as it is cheaper and you can get single slices so if you are multiple people you can each order a different type.

Google
We were looking for vegetarian menu and this caught our eye. Authentic Italian - we ordered veggie pizza and Alfredo pasta (not on menu but recommended by server Claire who was very helpful). Pasta was delicious. They can make pizza spicy upon request.

This place is sooo good. Great atmosphere and service. My favorite dish is chicken parmigiana with a voodoo ranger. The atmosphere is nice and chill and very welcoming 😁

Always double check your receipt before leaving. Our server charged me double for our tab when we ate there today. She placed the receipt a little far from my sight and hand me the credit card scanner right away. When I tapped I really thought we spent $135 ($160 after tip) but when I checked my receipt she added not just one but multiple food that we didn’t order. I went inside the restaurant looking for her and told her about the additional charges and all she told me was the last customer didn’t pay. I don’t know if that’s true, but I hope she ain’t doing this to all her customer.Receipt for reference. P.S We didn’t received any complimentary meal that’s just how she corrected our bill.

I came here with my husband, we were in Vail celebrating our anniversary. We came during “off season” so a lot of businesses and restaurants were closed and the city was pretty empty. We found this place for dinner and I was very happy with our choice!! The prices were reasonable and it wasn’t overly expensive and fancy. Since it wasn’t busy there wasn’t a wait to be seated and the food came out quickly. We had Fried Mozzarella, Chicken Parmesan, and a pizza. The fried mozzarella wasn’t our favorite (tasted frozen) but the pizza was excellent and was made fresh in house! I would absolutely return next time we pass through. Mountain towns operate differently, so if you are in a rush and it’s busy season this place probably isn’t for you.

Google
We dined at lunch today with our lil Shih tzu. Had the most amazing pizza! We have always heard about this amazing spot and can not believe it’s taken this long. Our friends ski the slopes by day and enjoy this fabulous pizza after a long day. We will be back!

Yelp
A must stop in Vail! Food is amazing and fresh ingredients. Staff is extremely friendly and the service is amazing. Atmosphere is great sitting on the back veranda.

Yelp
I expected SO much more from a place in Vail Village. My girlfriends and I were having a mountain trip for the weekend and stopped in to Vendetta's for lunch and it was just overall not good. We walked in and were greeted by a gentleman who said we could sit where we wanted. We sat in the front by the open doors since it was such a beautiful day out. Immediately a lady walks up to us with another patron and said we couldn't sit there because she was seating that lady there. We mentioned that the guy at the front said we could sit anywhere and she turned and looked at him and said really? He shouted 'My bad' back to her. The other patron said it was no problem for us to sit there and she would take the table next to us. She was the only good thing about this experience. We thanked her and sat down. The lady that worked there told us that if we sit in this section then so and so was our server, but if we moved over to the high top tables then someone else would be our server. We stayed where we were and had no clue who she was talking about. Our server, Francisco, came over and handed us menus and took our drink order and we also asked for calamari for an appetizer. We waited quite a bit for our drinks which we could see were sitting at the bar for a while. I almost got up and grabbed them myself. But then Francisco finally brought them over. We ordered our meals. Two of the girls ordered a pizza to share, one got a cup of chowder and the other ordered a side salad with no tomatoes, my other friend order a chicken parm sandwich and I ordered the primavera pasta with no carrots. Carrots sounded very weird in this dish to me. We finished our drinks and then he shows up with the pizza. No calamari, no soup, no salad. We asked if we could check on the calamari and get another round of drinks. He said yes and walked away. He returned with the salad, soup, the sandwich and pasta and walked away. No silverware. We had to go get some at the bar. No marinara for the chicken parm sandwich, had to go get that at the bar. The side salad was covered in tomatoes and my pasta was FILLED with carrots and no broccoli like he hit the wrong button. he finally arrived with our 2nd round of drinks as we were half way through our meals. I asked him if he could cancel the calamari since it still hadn't arrived and he said he forgot to put it in. FORGOT! I get that happens, but after I already asked about it you would think to either mention something then or ring it in. Hello?!? Wow, so I picked the 40,000 carrots out of my pasta and put them on the rim of the bowl and ate everything else. Sadly, the pasta would have been really good with no carrots and had the broccoli like it was supposed to. I mean for an $18 basic pasta dish I would have expected more. All of the food was so-so and obviously the service sucked from beginning to end. I will not be dining here again. I have had better luck at Sweet Basil and Slope Room. I'll stick to those places.

Yelp
Not sure why there are so many bad ratings for this place? We were passing through and got in real late. The bar was packed and they still got us seated and food and drink ordered right away. We got lasagna and chicken Caesar salad along with a few different drinks from the bar. They were both great! 5 stars from us.

Yelp
Terrible Service! First of all, it's mud season in Vail. Nothing is open and Vendettas was packed. They had poker on the tv and I asked to have it switched to espn for the nba playoffs. The bartender (woman with a burgundy trucker hat) couldn't get the right channel and yelled at me when she couldn't figure out the right channel. I was a bit taken a back. The server seemed rushed and asked for our drink order. When i asked for water, she said, I'll bring water when I can. Mind you, it really wasn't that big of an ask. She brought two waters, one full and with ice, the other half full, no ice and looked like it was taken from a table that had just left. Disgusting!!! This is the second time i have been here. Food is mediocre a best and the service has been awful both times. Save your money and your time and order door dash. We had one drink and got out of there. Much better options available for you to enjoy a good experience and better food.

Yelp
We came in for Pizza...I think this one got away from them. It was rock hard and beyond crunchy. There was also the smallest bit of sauce, which also added to the dryness...We were so hungry we just ate the toppings off. Service was good. Fun bar atmosphere. Prob won't be back for pizza

Yelp
A great affordable option in Vail village! The service could have been a little friendlier and the decor is outdated, but I think thats what makes it so charming and cozy. They have a great menu with something for everyone. My mom and I split the vegetarian sandwich and we each had a slice of pizza. Both were super tasty and I'd definitely come back!
google avatar

Susana C.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with my son while we visited Vail, the food was amazing. The calamari we had was perfect, and the salad with salmon was just so delicious.

Yelp
We wanted a mid day snack and we saw Vendetta's had pizza by the slice. The restaurant was busy and we got a table pretty quickly. We ordered 3 slices and order of mozzarella sticks. Literally 20 minutes have gone by we had no appetizer. We were able to flag down our waitress letting her know we never got our appetizer. She looked puzzled and said she will check what happened. The manager came over and asked if we still wanted them at no change. Our pizza finally came and one of the slices we got was not what we ordered. About another 15 minutes went by our mozzarella sticks were finally delivered. The crust of the pizza was really good , but the rest was of it was average. On the bright side the mozzarella sticks were really good. I would recommend this place for sure to parents with kids that like pizza.

Yelp
Stopped here with the family to grab a bite to eat while exploring Vail. My mom & I ordered a slice each & shared a salad. We loved both! My dad & brother shared a pizza which was HUGE. They ate quite a bit but also took some home. My entire family said their pizza was the best they had in a long time. We sat inside but the glass doors were open so it was like being on the patio. The weather was perfect. There was a tiny birds around we watched from our seats. The service was slow but that was fitting for the European vibe of vail. The server was nice & we always had something to drink. We don't live in Colorado so not sure when we'll be back but when we're back we'll want to make sure we stop here. You should too!

Yelp
Very good pizza. It's available by the slice and atmosphere was great. Our server was very attentive.
google avatar

Sabina V.

Yelp
The service was horrible. We walk in she told us a 20 minute wait but takes a white couple in immediately. Our server Sarah says 30 minutes for our pizza slices as they can't make a half and half pizza. 45 minutes later the manager comes and states, " it takes along time to bake slices we can offer you a whole pizza. " we state no we have already waited 45 minutes. 8Its now been 1 hour and still waiting for food. I guess that's what you get for not being white. We chose the place for good food and great ambiance but they definitely need to improve on service. Maybe hire more people and be respectful of other another persons time. Also you offering to pay for a 50 dollar meal doesn't mean shit to me.

Yelp
If you're looking for a divey type page, go here! Quite loud but in a good way. A lot of locals go here and some of the snow patrol staff too! Plenty of TVs for watching sports. Surprisingly good wine selection too. The mozzarella sticks and wings are good choices for appetizers and you can't go wrong on their pizza. Overall I love this place!
google avatar

Bhagyashree B.

Yelp
This is a nice little Italian restaurant tucked between several businesses in Vail village. The patio seating offers a beautiful, although incomplete view of the mountains. It was a sunny day and even though temperatures were low, we had a great time out on the patio, enjoying our garlic bread and pasta. The patio entrance is a little strange, right next to the restrooms and staff is slightly rude, so cannot give it more then 3 stars, even though the food was good.
google avatar

Yelp
We've been here a couple times now both upstairs and downstairs at the main restaurant. I highly recommend it for getting pizza by the slice as a casual dining spot after hitting the slopes, but I wouldn't recommend it as an upscale Italian dinner. The food was decent and the service was pretty slow. It does get pretty crowded upstairs during the day though so I'd recommend snagging a seat in the bar area!
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Out of town and came here just by walking outside, it was a 45 minute wait on a Tuesday but we were able to sit at the bar right away. The drinks were pretty good, reasonably priced for Vail, but the food was amazing. All the pasta and pizza was super good, and it was a warm and homey vibe. I would definitely come back here.
google avatar

Stephen M.

Yelp
We had dinner at this establishment based on the recommendation of my sister-in-law. We really struggled with the star rating, as I wish we could give half stars, as our true rating is 3 1/2 stars. We ordered their Snow Pig Pizza, which was very good. Additionally we ordered their Pasta Primavera on gluten free pasta which was delicious. Where things could have been better was the pizza by the slice, which came out cold and obviously was sitting out for a while and the Caesar salad, which had way too much dressing on it. The ambiance was pleasant and the service was ok. Not a bad place, and definitely serviceable for Italian food.

Yelp
The smells emanating from Vendetta every time we walked by really made me want to give them a try. We were in Vail for two days, but on July 4th at 9pm we found ourselves hungry, sick of crowds (many teens) in the center, and wanting a glass of wine and a view of the fireworks. Service was fast and we could each order a slice of pizza to taste! Total heaven. Pizza was good, plenty of toppings. I prefer a chewier crust, but it hit the spot. It was a magical night.

Yelp
Poor impression of an Italian Restaurant We ate here after a long day of travel to Colorado from the east coast. Not only was I seated directly under a speaker playing club music, but saw no club or lounge area. When I asked about the volume, our waiter said let me see what i can do, and never spoke about it again. Needless to say I could barely hear the conversation at the table during the meal. The calamari we ordered was so over-done it was hardly edible but we were all starving from the trip out west. The main-course was satisfactory at best and for the cost was well below expectations. Needless to say we will not be returning on our next trip to Vail and there are definitely better restaurants with fairer pricing available in the area.

Yelp
One of the more "fun" places in the village. Always consistent. Mostly a place for beer and pizza. Sitting at the bar can be fun too.

Katie D.

Yelp
Terrible experience at lunch today. Overpriced, our waitress disappeared. My daughter ordered spaghetti and said her allergies for diary and egg. We were told the spaghetti was not an egg noodle but a gluten feee penne came out. Then when they remade it, the spagetti had parm cheese on top. Very disappointing especially for the price.

Yelp
Staying in Vail Village for a couple weeks to escape the Texas heat and Vendettas is absolutely delish! Salads, Pizza, Stuffed shells, salmon .... everything we have ordered has been wonderful. The staff is excellent and friendly. Lovely Ari was so gracious and amazing. (Watch out San Diego! Here she comes and she has a huge future ahead for her!) The ambience is so relaxing; sitting outside amidst the beautiful flowers and the sound of the creek below with a glass of wine will set the mood for an enjoyable evening.
google avatar

Kristi M.

Yelp
I would give zero stars if possible. Worst service, terrible pizza, slow as all get out. I ordered a cheese slice with three toppings and it came out with six random toppings. (That I would never eat). One slice took over 30 mins to come out and the restaurant was not busy in the slightest. When I told the server and sent back the incredibly wrong slice, the server couldn't care less. I then asked for a slice of plain cheese because I figured that would quick? Wrong. The slice of cheese was greasy as heck and very gummy/undercooked. We had to get the host to finally check out check. Would not recommend this spot at all.

Trey T.

Yelp
This was disappointing overall but that comes in two parts. The venue was fine, porch was good with umbrellas to keep you shaded. We started with nachos, which came out after quite a wait. Weirdly the queso was cold. I don't mean warmish, I mean legit cold. It was rather strange. Certainly unexpected. The lasagna was ok, but not great. The pizza however was good. So if you come here for pizza only I think you'll be happy, the wait staff didn't seem to care a whole lot about service and the items that weren't pizza were disappointing.
google avatar

Terry H.

Yelp
Looking for really good pizza. Made reservation but told pizza would take an hour to come out. Other food ( steak, sea bass etc would take much less time and cost more) first time I have that type of up selling. Service very slow. Will not be back
google avatar

Renee L.

Yelp
We ordered a pizza for take out and it was embarrassing. You could not tell that there was any meat on the pizza. Spent $40 and was not worth it. We have been there to eat in and it was fine. But do not order a pizza for pick up without double checking. Disappointing.

Yelp
"Pizza in a Junk drawer" I don't want to type this review but I have to. The place has gone to shit. There is no leadership, no one knows what they're doing. Yes, I get We walked in at a busy time, but that's vacation towns. We put out our name down for a table, 30 mins wait. So we waited at the bar, 15 mins to get a drink. We Made a joke that we would be sat at one of 2 empty 4 tops that we watched the whole time as they sat unoccupied. Correct, we waited patiently for 30 mins and sat at a table that was empty the whole time. The place is understaffed. There is no management or owner on sight. That's when places run like a well oiled machine, when there is accountability. No sense of urgency or professionalism. You would think with the price of things these days. in the town of vail, in the heart of bridge street, prime location, you might give 2 shytes about the place. The kicker, We asked for a box to go to take home the leftover slices....our sever shoved a large pie into a small box like it was scissors in a junk drawer. Pizza in a junk drawer. "Take your $70 worth of pizza and get out" Cool thanks. Never going back to Vendettas. It used to be a staple. I lived in the village for years but the owners must be on vacation. At least the guys breaking their asses making the pizza did a decent job. Thankfully the Food was a 6/10, service was 2/10 the whole vibe was a frustrating 0/10. The whole visa worker thing in the entire town clearly isn't working. It's a circus.

Yelp
Worst service I've experienced in years with fishy calamari and forgotten orders. All for Vail prices!! Don't waste your time (or your Vail money.
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
We were looking for pasta. Unfortunately we were in between lunch and dinner so all we could order was pizza. Pizza was delicious.
google avatar

George G.

Yelp
Pasta with meatballs was solid, the pizza seemed like it was left under a lamp to long. Service was slow but the place was packed! Great views of the river from the back and decently priced for Vail.

Mia Z.

Yelp
WORST SERVICE EVER!! We waited 10 minutes at our table before our waiter brought us waters and took our order. It was an additional 20 minutes after that for our drinks and appetizers to arrive. We then waited ANOTHER 45 minutes for the one pizza we ordered, which was made incorrectly so I didn't even get to eat it. Our waiter did not check on us ONCE, and we eventually had to go find the manager to say something. We didn't bother fixing the pizza because we knew it would take another hour to get it. The manager comped our pizza, but when we went to pay the remaining bill, no one had change for $100 except the bar. The manager didn't even try to give us our change quickly, so we had to find her and insist on getting on our change before leaving. Overall it was a terrible experience. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU WANT YOUR MEAL TO TAKE LESS THAN 2 HOURS WITH AWFUL SERVICE!!

Kari B.

Yelp
What happened to our yummy Vendetta's? We've been coming here for years. There were 13 of us and all of our food was bland. The pizzas have changed. No flavor on the pizza crust and for some reason they don't put sauce on the pizza. It was dry and flavorless. So sad because we used to love this place. The Snow Pig was our go to and it has really changed. We thought that it was just an off night so we tried again and same bland dishes. So sad. I hope the chef makes the changes and adds flavor and sauce to the dishes.
google avatar

Doris N.

Yelp
Great location and pasta! Went there as a walk in and they were so nice to seat us right away. Portion sizes are big and we had to share. Would recommend and go again!
google avatar

Magda C.

Yelp
Average calamari and garlic bread. Arugula salad was fresh and good. And high prices. Service was good though.
google avatar

Cyndy M.

Yelp
While this is by far one of the best, if not THE best pizza in Vail, the service is horrible. The server made us feel like an inconvenience just for asking for olives only on half of the pizza. Took 20 minutes at a time to get drinks. I had to frequently go to other servers for help. We had no water for an hour and she wouldn't bring us any though we asked several times. However, very quick the the check. While we love the food, we won't be back.

Todd T.

Yelp
Used to be our favorite place for pizza for the past 25 years. It might be the worst pizza I've ever had at a restaurant. No flavor or sauce. Tasted like cardboard. They need to bring back the old recipe

trestina t.

Yelp
Yuck ! What happened to Vendettas?? It was so bad ...the Snow out pizza was a staple for us and it had No sauce on it and the crust was like a piece of cardboard ... Lasagna was dry and no sauce ... and all the yummy dishes from the past are gone !!! So sad !! Not sure I'm going back !! Fix this Vendettas!! Please!!

R P.

Yelp
Went for lunch after skiing. Great service and good food. Fried ravioli dish and Italian sub were both hits. Also ordered the Cajun chicken pasta special that was very good. Try the espresso martinis!
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Got hung up on 3 times by the takeout order line. Rude. Will never buy a pizza there!
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
TL;DR: Solid pizza with lots of toppings, but no delivery or garlic knots This is a great place for pizza, but I have 2 issues. One, they don't deliver, which is a bummer when you don't want to leave your house. Two, they don't have garlic knots - only garlic bread. Other than that the pizza is pretty solid. The Snow Pig is yummy and had lots of the topping on it. Willie's White Room could use some help though - it needs more sauce on it. Lastly the Popeye's Passion was pretty good. The person who took our order helped us save money by putting 2 pizzas for half an 18 inch instead of a 12 inch to have "more pizza for less money" so that was plus.

Sylvie N.

Yelp
Great service and food we had a very nice waiter I'm very happy with that meal and will come again! The ambiance was a nice setting and clean!
google avatar

Yelp
Great experience. Ana was a delight. Patio seating was a huge plus for us. Drinks, food, and dessert all very good.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice hangout with a lively local crowd. Our bartender was super friendly and the pizza was satisfying.

Yelp
Fun place, good drinks and great pizza. A place to watch your favorite sporting event.

Yelp
Stopped here super late night during our Vail stay. The bar was still open so we decided to get some pizza and drinks. They were one of the few places open since it was off season. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We got a delicious pizza from here. Thick crust but perfectly cooked, tons of toppings. I got an espresso martini and that was great too. We got some local beer to go as well. It was definitely costly but they were one of the only open places at the time. I can imagine the rest of their menu is great just judging off the quality of the pizza.
google avatar

Matthew K.

Yelp
Coming to Vail for the first time, I had no idea we would need reservations a month in advance. Luckily we were able to get in with about an hour wait. The Bolognese was very good. However, the pork chop was one of the best pork chops I've ever had. The bacon glaze is perfect. It came with brussel sprouts sprinkled with a nut and raisin mix which was different but really good.

pati m.

Yelp
Used to be so good. Service is beyond slow, as in over an hour for a pizza. Cheese in the pie makes it to only 4" from the edge

Pat A.

Yelp
I posted a great review yaers ago when I DJ'D one of my best friends memorial. A legendary pro snowboeader and amazing dad Adam Meriman. Hung out with the owner. But 2 nights ago I left because my friend was having issues parking. I left a beer with one sip and came back a few hours later only to threatened by a drunk bartender that i walked out on my tab. Which I came back to pay and order $40 more in food. I left after paying. Came back to day only to be told I had done this a month ago. I hadn't been there since December so that can be proven I was not the guy they thought was. It's not possble Been going there for o0ver 30 years. DJ'd and made them money. It now being run by privalidg ed malenials (bad spelling) done care. So until these clowns either get fires or quit I will not go back. I'll go to Garfinkles are where ever I know true locals that won't act like they own Vail because they lived there for a season. True Story. Look me up on Google Patrick Abramson
google avatar

Juan S.

Yelp
Solid pizza great summer time patio. The restaurant side has good service especially because they are busy however the bar side I gave up on I always get ignored by the bar tenders and my food takes forever no drink refills and basically get forgotten. I always tip at least 20% so not sure why I always get ignored
google avatar

Yolande V.

Yelp
I feel like vail especially in its village should not only have great service but great food as well... and we didn't get both. So extremely annoyed and disappointed with the whole experience. Waiter let us know the pizza would take 45 min to come out so he recommended the garlic bread as an appetizer. 30 min later we hadn't received any food and our waiter came out giving us an excuse that the garlic bread was never made. An hour went by and our pizza had finally arrived. My margarita pizza was missing the sauce and they just placed cheese and 3 sliced tomatoes on top. The pizza was soggy and so thin. Disgusting. Our waiter didn't seem to care to come to any of his tables because he was so busy talking to the other servers. For a pizza place I expected better. This place is definitely overrated.
