"Venice Ale House is right off the Boardwalk, serving lunch, dinner, and lots of beer on tap - it could easily be a sticky, overpriced tourist trap. But, maybe because it’s slightly further down the Boardwalk and most tourists have already settled on the place they’re going to spill their beer on the floor, it’s actually a relaxed spot for day and early-evening drinking (it’s only open till midnight on weekends, and 9pm weekdays). The food menu is weirdly health-focused, but the beer is great, it’s easy to find a seat, and you’re right on the beach." - Amy Clark

Writing this review on behalf of my daughters who had the amazing pleasure of dining here this weekend. They raved about the gluten free mac n cheese and the cheesecake. Above all, the service was exceptional and our family highly recommends this place, we will definitely be returning soon.

Google
Great place to chill with a cold beer. Good selection of craft beers reasonable price. The beer flight comes inside a skate board pretty cool. Staff is super friendly I recommend this place.

Google
Great spot with a stunning view on the sea and Californias beautiful sunsets. The service is really friendly and talkative. The food is arguably too expensive for what it has to offer. Still the food is completely fine but not more. Would definitely go again but only cause of the good spot.

Google
Stopped here for lunch. Very chill and the service was great. The burger was tasty and the side of potatoes/salad was a nice change compared to other places. Great selection of beer with something for everyone. Would've spent the whole day here if I could. Will definitely come back again if I'm in the area.

Google
Great beachside tap house in Venice. Perfect for no-shower happy hours, and/or just to take a load off while strolling Venice Beach. Plenty of pulls/styles to choose from, indoor & outdoor seating and a big menu. Check it out!

Google
This place was very chill. Located right in Venice Beach, it made for a great place to hang out and drink some brews. Their selection of beer is quite large, consisting of a good variety on draft. The atmosphere is good too, like I before mentioned. It's clean and modern. It also isn't that spacious. But despite that, the place does have a very good vibe. Overall, I would definitely come back to this place,

Google
Great views and people watching on the patio. The food came out pretty fast and was large portions. The only thing I didn’t love was the menu didn’t list everything they offer (there’s a specials board inside at the bar that you don’t know about if you on the patio). Would definitely return.

Google
Stopped in for a beer while strolling the boardwalk. Excellent spot for people watching. Reasonably priced beer with an excellent selection of local and national pours on draft. Staff were friendly and the food looked tasty coming out of the kitchen (though we did not order any).

Raevon P.

Yelp
Great little spot at the north end of Venice to have an ice cold craft beer, soak up some sun, and people watch. Great ambiance - dogs welcome! The staff was super nice and helpful in beer selection.

Yelp
So let me start off by saying that $30 wings should be the bomb! I was curious and asked the bartender "how were the wings?" He said they were the best he's ever had, even though they were baked. "better than fried wings" he said. Ok I love buffalo wings, so I ordered them..... These were no good!!! No flavor no crisp no good what so ever. And they came cold. Come on ale house... Cold beers ambience was perfect. Wings no do not order them

Roch B.

Yelp
Skate punks on beer...and quesadillas. IPAs, lagers, stouts, milk stouts and pilsners. All on tap and frosty good. We popped in for an ice cold one and were delighted to see the bar empty. Of course, it was 11AM but hey. Stroll in, siddown and have at it. Bartender knew his stuff - poured us a couple of tastes and off we strode into day-drinking bliss. It made sense to challenge the buzz with the introduction of grub so we scored a quesadilla. It was killer fresh! Crispy on the outside and delightful in the middle. Topped with pico de gallo, guac and rowdy fresh greens. SkateBoard on the BoardWalk to The Venice Ale House.

Alex G.

Yelp
I love this place because the service is great, staff is cool, and they have great beers and food. However, the DJ sucks and it's so freaking loud you have to scream just to communicate. Kinda annoying. Bathrooms are usually kinda gross, too.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Always love the vibe of ale house and the food never disappoints, love the wings and the beers on tap!

Eli C.

Yelp
Beware! They will charge your card more than what you sign for. Pay attention to your bill as they don't provide a paper copy and do not let you tip what they deserve rather what they think they deserve.

Janette W.

Yelp
Solid place to grab and drink near the Venice Boardwalk. I always end up here and I like how it feels less touristy than a lot of the other places around.

Mary S.

Yelp
Overall, my experience at the place was just okay. I must say, I had higher expectations. One of my main disappointments were the nachos. The dry white cheese used on them completely killed the whole nacho experience. It lacked the melted goodness that I was looking for. Not only did we have to find our seats ourselves, we then had to go to the bar to place our orders. So it was inconvenient. Other than that the view is great at night looking out at the beach.

Annika W.

Yelp
BYOS (bring your own stove) I ordered at MEDIUM RARE Santa Barbra Burger and when I received the burger it was still MOOING ! The table next to us said he ordered it medium and it also looked like mine... $23 FOR RAW BEEF?! I took it home and cooked it and it was good, but I wish they had table service so I could have talked to them about this and not wait it a 20 person line just to return my food. ALSO, we don't really drink so just as an fyi they don't have any sodas other than sprite and their lemonade was the most DISGUSTING thing I have ever tasted. The cherry on top to this entire experience is that it faintly smells like urine if you sit outside... I would pass up this place. The poor tourists who be dinning here, I feel for them.

Jessica C.

Yelp
The food was great, but the service was slow, . They forgot to add the mint in my lemonade, which is suppose to come with it, and they also forgot my husband's side of steak, and when they brought it out, we were already done with our meal. The prices are ridiculous, and there is a mandatory 20% service fee, which I did not see on the menu or anywhere else posted in the restaurant.

Lacey C.

Yelp
I used to absolutely love this place but now the service is shit and the waitresses are rude as hell. Dunno what happened during / after the pandemic, but I won't be coming back here.

Hayley H.

Yelp
The DJ slaps. We quickly pivoted to the Venice Ale House after noticing a mile long line at the Waterfront. This was most definitely the best decision of the day! The seating is first-come first-serve and we got lucky enough to instantly snag a table outside for five. You order food/cocktails at the counter and then they're served directly to your table. Their menu is pretty freaking expansive with a variety of bowls, burgers, wraps, salads, and traditional bar eats. I ended up ordering the Malibu Burger and the Kentucky Lemonade. This cocktail packed a punch! I might just be getting old, but it was definitely a one-and-done type situation. The vegan burger was also well done (pun intended.) It came stacked with arugula and sliced beets, and a side of potato wedges. Fun tidbit: tip is included with every purchase! I wish they were more upfront about this.

Juliana W.

Yelp
First time trying Venice Ale House and definitely my last time. Here is why. Food was eh - overpriced for what it was and you have to order at bar and then a server brings your food to the table. Here is the kicker. There is NO sign anywhere that states there is a MANDATORY 20% SERVICE CHARGE (MSC) added to the bill and then once you order, the bartender AND cashier turns the Ipad around for you with an option to leave a tip. I added a tip "for ordering my own food at the bar" and then got the receipt with the already MANDATORY SERVICE CHARGE 20% added. See attached picture. Why is Venice Ale House passing the bill along to customers to supplement the pay the business should be paying their employees a living wage? BEWARE if you go here, the food is overpriced, quality not great, meat was very chewy with lots of fat in a wrap, tables dirty and very close together where customers are less than 2 ft away form the next table. $65 for a cobb (nothing like cobb) salad, a wrap with fries and two beers. Yikes and that doesn't include the tip I added too. The only good thing is it is right on the boardwalk so good people watching.

Doctor L.

Yelp
Maybe the worst service in Venice, and that's saying a lot. I only come here because they have a good beer selection on the beach, but you better be prepared to wait a very long time to get that beer, and deal with the bartender ignoring you while she talks to her friends.

Ramon E.

Yelp
Burrito and my friend had tacos. The environment had some music and of course being near the beach and Pacific Ocean is perfect. Riley provided great service.

Mary C.

Yelp
Nice outdoor seating, chill, good beer options, and hard kombucha. Never ate so can't speak on the food.

Will G.

Yelp
Really bad service. I am a black military veteran wearing insignia with a service dog sitting with my brother-ln-law sitting on the patio. WE WERE NOT SERVED! Everyone who came in after us-was. The female service came over to us at least 5 times and said our order was coming. After complaining she said our order was sent to wrong printer and possibly given to someone else. We were one of the first patrons there and never served our food. I paid for the wine and we left while she profusely apologized. This was not right and will be passing this along to Veterans Advantage Advocates.

Brenda T.

Yelp
Bartender was patient and polite. He was understanding to what I needed and flexible to change the beer I ordered. Thanks!

Debra J.

Yelp
On vacation. Staying in. Venice beach. We have been here two days and have eaten here twice. Great mixed drinks and IPA's. The food was delicious. I'll be back!

Sarah S.

Yelp
We are crazy about this place, always get the grilled cheese with tomato soup, quesadillas, drinks. It's a busy beach restaurant. But bartenders Dave & Robby are amazing; servers and hosts couldn't be better. The casual nature of this place lends itself to a true beach experience-- and reminds us all to slow down sometimes and just enjoy the view!

Dema P.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. The servers and bartenders are so friendly and the cooks In the back know what they are doing. The poke bowl is my favorite along with the carne asada burrito. Best place to enjoy a beer, eat some fresh food and watch the best sunset as it's practically on the sand. Keep up the hard work we need more restaurants like Ale house on the boardwalk.

AJ S.

Yelp
Love this place! Always a great visit and service is consistently amazing. Beer selection is impressive with quality options. Burgers are a must!

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Fun place to chill on Venice Beach! We were intrigued when we first walked by as we started our stroll of Venice Beach. We made a mental note of it and decided to scooter back to this place once we reached the end of the boardwalk. There were no oceanfront tables available by the time of our arrival but we were able to catch a table around the side of the building which was honestly fine because "oceanfront" in this case is a euphemism for "homeless-tent-front". They have a bunch of brews on draught, cocktails, sangria, etc. It was pretty busy when we were there and had to wait on line to place an order. Fortunately, the line went pretty quickly and gave us enough time to plan our strategy. We both ordered one of their cocktails for our first round. If memory serves, I ordered the margarita and GF ordered their sangria. The drinks were very good and it was a setting to chill and enjoy a couple beverages. The staff including the host and bartender, were both friendly and approachable. It did get a bit chilly as the sun was setting but fortunately, just a few minutes down the boardwalk was a place to overpay for a touristy sweatshirt. This is a great place to stop and soak up the Venice Beach vibez.

Jenifer N.

Yelp
Great selection of beers and variety of delicious food that will appease any eater (vegetarian options!). Good outdoor, covered seating giving you a break from the sun while still allowing you to be next to the beach and people watch while sipping a cold brew.

Paul N.

Yelp
Great food, poor service (always). Then they auto charged a 20% tip for their poor service. WTF

Anthony R.

Yelp
Really good location on Venice Beach. Good beer and food selection. Only issue was no server there and 1 bartender for 50-100 people. Bartender had to be a server also.

Joanne R.

Yelp
Nice place to stop after a long walk around Venice Beach. However, like most of the area, the homeless population that live has increased and is almost all you can see from their patio. Members of the staff were very friendly, they had a good selection of beer and their unfries were quite delicious. I don't think I'd ever drive to Venice just to stop here but may stop by again if I was already in Venice and was just looking for a place to get a snack/beer. If you're ever in the area and looking for a cute restaurant, this one is worth a try! Keep in mind it can get a little chilly at night so if you're hoping to sit outside, bring a jacket!

Neil G.

Yelp
Took pops in Venice as I've heard they cleaned it up quite nicely, stopped by VAH for beer and lunch, I had the Salmon and he ordered the Tuna. I have to say, the Tuna was beautifully seasoned and the sauce with curry was amazing! It was terrific! The Quesadilla which we had for appetizers was fantastic! So cheesy and lovely! I was quite disappointed with the salmon as I order medium rare but yet it still dried it like cardboard, that's definitely off my list moving forward. Overall amidst the epic fail of the salmon, pops had a good time, enjoyed his food and the beer, that makes me happy + our server was very cordial as well. I'd still recommend the place but avoid the salmon unless you order it rare - Atlantic salmon is so easy to burn (might as well have sushi) Cheers!

Jennifer J.

Yelp
The staff is awesome and the poke bowl is fresh and delicious!!!! Def will be back to this place. It's so nice and beautiful inside.

Michael D.

Yelp
Great grass fed beef burgers and a great location! Lots of good beer on tap. Four stars because $17 for a burger and potato wedges seems alittle HIGH, but then again (cough), you are at Venice beach. Good food, good service, cold beer and great people watching from the patio!!

Amanda Y.

Yelp
It was a quick stop but i enjoyed the atmosphere . Relaxing next to the beach . Enjoyed my pineapple margarita . Service was pretty well for my time being . I took my sxsw salad Togo and when I tell you it was amazing I forgot to take a pic so here is my half eating pic DELICIOUS !! .. I added shrimp and hard boiled eggs to the salad and I pretty much ate the whole thing !

Carolina A.

Yelp
Location is unbeatable. Really good people watching spot. I only tried a couple of drinks so I can't speak about the food but the drinks were awesome! The bartender explained to me that they do their own syrups and my friend who doesn't drink had their mint lemonade and loved it.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Short brunette working the patio today is awesome every time we come! She's so attentive even though it was crazy busy for st pattys day. The food is fine, the drinks are great, and service is amazing!

Claire M.

Yelp
I had just a great time here on Saturday!!! Walked up after drinks and appetizer somewhere else and they were able to seat us right away (: .. thankfully next to an outdoor heater. Ordered a pitcher and the fries + potatoes .. so healthy #drunchies and all was delicious! The staff was incredibly friendly and made the experience very enjoyable. I look forward to being back for a sunset cocktail hour with friends!

Mel S.

Yelp
We came in for a quick drink. They had a pretty good beer selection, ordered their house ale and an IPA, both good beers. I can agree with reviews where guests might have felt unattended as no one greets you or serves you at the table. You pick a table upon entry and if you want a drink or food you go inside and flag a bartender an order. If you are in the mood for a more service like experience this might not be your choice.

Gaby T.

Yelp
3/10 won't try again. Service- Server didn't acknowledge us. We waited a few minutes before he said anything to us. A simple "Hey, I'll be right with you" would have been suffice. Food- Ah yeah, the wings weren't good. They honestly tasted like they were reheated. I did enjoy the carrots and celery.

EMan G.

Yelp
This place always has Crackin music!!! The vibe is always good, so far the biggest juiciest and tasty burger on the boardwalk. Lost of beer on tap and really good cocktails. Service is good order at the bar, find your spot to sit with your crew and just have one person order for everybody. Does get crowded on weekends so yeah plan accordingly

Hannah G.

Yelp
Expensive, but I just keep coming back. Food is solid (really like their poke bowl) and the vibes are always good. Little noisy and chaotic at times, but it's fun. Location explains the price. My only grievance is they NEVER have their only sour on tap. If I could get a sour here, would be an all-around ideal experience!

Snarky Black G.

Yelp
The food here was DISGUSTING without theft , but the waiter/bartender ADDED gratuity to my bill without my consent or kn... he swiped my card, he selected credit, and HE selected gratuity on my tab without ever asking me.

Joel C.

Yelp
This place gets busy. Our first time there we we're waiting for our friends to head somewhere else for lunch. Honestly I wish we ate there. Seeing everyone's food. The burgers looked delicious. I kept salivating. The beers are good they have a nice variety. I can see myself coming here. We went to the waterfront and I regretted every moment lol. Im voting here next time.

Lloyd O.

Yelp
Had a late lunch here on a Sunday afternoon . The food was tasty and fast. Service was mediocre at best. Staff was having fun having shots with customers. What I didn't like was the "mandatory" 20% service fee. Don't get me wrong, most servers work very hard for their money, and I tip a minimum of 20% tip. However it's a gratuity and shouldn't be "mandatory".

Tom H.

Yelp
Normally I might pass by, but I watched well-prepared food being served, and decided to try the Venice Ale House. Had great nachos and an ale, and walked away for less than $20, less than I had imagined walking in. It's friendly, the nachos were a full meal (the large size probably feeds three; I had the small size and it was huge). Many choices, and it's nice to watch the wide array of passersby. If you're looking at this on a phone, trying to decide, go inside. I was glad I did. I polished it all and it was great!

Calvin C.

Yelp
Located by venice beach, this place sits at the end of Rose street. There is a small inside area with a few tables and standing space for drinks. I prefer to sit outside since it's always a nice day by the beach. Prices are a bit on the higher end but you get a lot. Definitely come hungry. Also love the variety of ales. It gets busy on weekends, especially during lunch time. The seating is a bit tight for my preference. Staff is cool. I think average overall. You are paying for the location really

Sherri W.

Yelp
The staff were nice and friendly and the location is just right (located right across from beachfront parking which was $7). They offered a long list of beer options and I wish I notated the beer we ordered at 8.5% ABV because it was very good. I wish I could say the same about the Chicken Tacos. Despite the toppings on the tacos, they lacked flavor and seasoning. The 'Unfries' with rosemary were cool with the ketchup.

Jose C.

Yelp
We came here for lunch on a nice hot day in November. Venice Amal's House is conveniently located on the north edge of the Venice Beach Board Walk. They have outdoor seating and some seating inside as well. They're customer service was surprisingly great and fast. And most importantly they're food was delicious. We started off with an order of their bruschetta. A little different than your traditional bruschetta. This version came with four flat breads covered with diced tomatoes in olive oil and in the middle was a nice balsamic vinegar salad. The bruschetta was tasty but the only thing missing was some fresh Parmesan cheese on top. We also got an order of wings and were cooked perfectly and the sauce had a nice kick to it. I ordered their cod tacos that came with a side of chips and salsa and a really good tasting creamy guacamole. The cod tacos were very flavorful and fresh. Squeeze some like on top and it's game over. Although the food was all good, nothing really wowed me. I probably won't be returning on my next trip back, especially with so many other options in the LA area. But still highly recommended especially if you want to eat right on the boardwalk.

Nicole W.

Yelp
Kinda busy for a Tues. Had literally 1 person working the bar. Line wasn't long, ordered our drinks sat outside. Food wasn't tht great, expected it to be alot better then wat it was. Ordered the salmon sandwich, had a weird taste. Only serve imported beers nothing domestic. Had a good variety of beers on draft tho. Lady behind bar was totally friendly.

Yulissa G.

Yelp
I came here last night with my friend and we split the bill. They charged us both the entire bill, so we literally paid twice. I tried to call but the number hangs up immediately. I was not a fan of the included gratuity when there is no table service aside from your food being brought out, as well as an option to tip when you sign your bill on TOP of the included gratuity. Please pay more attention, the bartender seemed to be distracted chatting with her friends visiting her at a nearby table.

Ebony R.

Yelp
I have been here 3 times but I tell you this third time will be my last. When I walked away, I was trembling, I was so angry. A friend and I stopped here for a drink and bites. It is usually quite the chill place with good food. We shared the larger guacamole plate but as soon as I saw it, my excitement vanished. Both the salsa and guacamole were clearly poured from a vat and it tasted like it. It lacks salt and lime which we did ask for in order to try to revive the 2 dishes that honestly every other restaurant gives to you for free. If you are going to charge 15 bucks for these, for the love of Food, make them fresh!! But that alone does not justify one star, you may say, and you are correct. Other notes, my margarita was ok, a bit tart but my friend enjoyed her glass of wine. So we go to close our tab and that is when we were informed that my card had been charged an extra 20% for tip and there was nothing that our waiter could do about it. Ummm. What!!?? No. Thus began an altercation that was truly unnecessary. I asked to see the manager since the waiter was incapable of resolving the issue, his words. He went from level 0 to a solid 8 ranting about how he could do nothing about it, it was the system, restaurant policy... and that I was offending him when I said that he could not work the machine. I said, quite calmly, I was not going to let him/them legit steal money from me just bc he could not work the machine. I said where was that option given. He said, that he thought the hostess may have told me but ,Yelp, there was NO hostess, anywhere. He started to calm himself down enough to just open the register and give me part of the tip back, but not before 1 blaming COVID and not before 2. accusing me of not caring for the back of the house staff and the work that they do. Let me tell you here and now that I don't care for the front of the house staff either and neither does this restaurant if they are depending on the moods/ experiences of perfect strangers to pay their wages. I am clearly against the antiquated tip system where no one wins but the RESTAURANTS THAT ARE REFUSING TO PAY THEIR TEAM FOR THEIR WORK. It is gotten out of hand. When you are berated for not wanting to have 20% tip forced on you for 2 drinks and some guacamole, at the bar, then you have earned your 1 star today, Sir.

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Looking for a juicy burger on the boardwalk? This is the spot! Great bites with a chill vibe and an ocean view. The service was quick and the quality was good. Not too pricey for Venice beach. Would def stop here again when in town.
