The Best Poke, Smoothie, and Grain Bowls in Montreal - Eater Montreal

"This mini-chain of Southern Californian-inspired restos (with four locations in the city) offers fish and tofu poke bowls alongside other summery menu items like tacos and avo toast, and the beachy vibes are evident throughout Venice’s bright, airy spaces. If you’re looking for something that packs a bit more punch, they also do hearty “power” bowls inspired by Indian, pan-Asian, Mediterranean, and Mexican flavours." - Holly Tousignant

The Best Healthy Restaurants in Montreal - Eater Montreal

"Tacos, pizza, poke bowls: Venice has tons of cravable yet guilt-free California-vibing cuisine to enjoy. Much of the menu is vegetarian, if not vegan, and there are plenty of gluten free and dairy free choices too. It’s a trip to the west coast without even leaving the island, plus there are multiple locations to choose between." - Mallory Frayn

Google
I love the vibe of this quaint restaurant! The music. The decor. The food. The service. A+ all around. We showed up on a frigid February snowy evening so the Cali vibe was right on point!! We tried the Avocado Toast and the Chipotle Lime Chicken Taco with a side of Edamame beans and fries. There was nothing left on our plates - that’s how good it all was. Would love to go back on a hot summer day.

Google
They have a take out sign on their door. Beware! The food in the restaurant is fine and the portions are fine. The food for take out is extremely under par. The give tiny amounts and charge as if you're in a 5 star restaurant. Frozen French fries for $12 plus tax and you're lucky if you get 12 French fries. A dollar a fry is what they should advertise.

Denise PH

Google
The food was okay but very simple, and the portions were little for the price. It also took quite long to get served, when it was just rice and the restaurant was far from full. The service is kind and attentive. And the atmosphere is really nice, particularly for the warm weather.

Adelaide

Google
Amazing. The staff is amazing and both English and French is spoken and the menus come in both English and French. I had the smoked salmon avocado toast and it was amazing.

Google
Order French fries to go for the kid. Paid $15.53 with a 15% tip. Got a handful of crinkle cut fries. Absolute rip off. If you want value for money, do not go to this place. Definitely don't ask for take out in English. This place is a rip off.

Google
Saw tofu on the menu as we were walking by looking for a different restaurant. We're all vegetarians so we went in. The food here was fresh and satisfactory. My husband described my avocado toast as "fascinating" lol.

Google
We haven't had a chance to try food, and that's also a reason to come back, but we did try some drinks, and they were amazingly prepared! The vibe in the restaurant is absolutely perfect! The balance between cozy and chic, with warm lighting, tasteful decor, and music sets the mood of summer vacation.

Google
Fantastic find! Delicious poke bowls. Squash soup was a big hit. Edamame comes with a creamy sauce, fyi. Fun atmosphere. Lovely service.

Yelp
What a great place to stop in for a bite to eat and a great drink. Amazing food, vibes and service! Sat at the bar and had an amazing time. The poke bowl was 10/10!

Yelp
Nice simple cafe with quality food. Salad with chicken and a cheeseburger is what we ordered. The sweet potato fries come with a curry mayo dipping sauce that was very tasty. I would eat here again.

Yelp
Came for late dinner w a friend. First night in Montreal. Quite busy for 5pm. We both ordered tacos: carne asada and Korean beef. Side of fries. I ordered the beet carrot and ginger juice. Friend had a red and bubbly. Pros: - wonderful tacos (x3). Lotsa filling - good service. The place was packed but they were still attentive to our needs and filling our water. - menu has a good variety of items to select from

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Absolutely delicious! The seasoning is on point. Price: $$ Reasonably priced for the quality you get. It's not super cheap, but totally worth it for the experience. Quantity: 3/5 Portions are on the smaller side -- don't expect huge platters. Service: 5/5 Super quick and friendly. The staff were attentive without being overbearing. Atmosphere: 5/5 Cozy and welcoming, perfect for a casual meal or a date night. The vibe is relaxed and comfortable.

Yelp
Great service. Ambiance is very chic and food was awesome. They have great vegetarian options

Yelp
Food was super fresh and everything we ordered was great (ricotta toast, poke bowls). Would definitely go back!

Yelp
We got carryout the first night in Montreal. The Tao bowl was very tasty. They also have some gluten and lactose free options. My husband said they were very friendly at the restaurant.

Yelp
Service started out strong but definitely trickled off toward the end when our server just kinda dipped. It was raining, we had just come in from walking to the restaurant, and we were freezing. So, we asked for the front doors to be closed. Our waiter told us he couldn't because of air circulation or something even though the window would still be open if he closed the door. Whatever, we moved on and were freezing the whole time. I got a drink (I think it was called Billie Gin) and it was soooo tart. My aunt also got a drink and her drink was just as tart. We got some simple syrup which helped a little bit but not sure what the tartness was about. I got a burger and was definitely underwhelmed and had to add salt. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food with the exception of guac which also needed salt. But, mostly everyone else had gotten poke bowls so I wasn't expecting complaints on how seasoned those bowls were. Definitely room to improve on drinks and seasoning level but does seem like a cool place to come sit and get some work done.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was yummy. Music was great! A little bit of America in Montreal. The drinks were also great.

Yelp
Beautiful and colorful restaurant (one of the branch) located in old Montreal. My sister and I go for our monthly brunch; Venice belonged to our February. Nice and friendly service. The drinks and food arrived quickly too. I had a regular mimosa, but it tasted more orange juice than mimosa. My sister had a pressed juice was called Las Vegas made of pineapples, strawberries, blueberries, apricots which was very refreshing. As for brunch dishes, I ate a breakfast pizza topped with tomato sauce, cheese, sunny side up eggs, avocado, and sprinkled with feta cheese and cilantro. Pizza from bread to mozzarella cheese, it tasted pizza from a grocery store but when when rest of the ingredients set all together, it got better. The breakfast burrito was massive but sadly, some vegetables inside were too salty. Overall, the dishes were average in taste but in presentation were beautiful and colorful. The prices were average; nothing to complain about it.

Yelp
This is a long overdue review :) visited Montreal couple years ago decided to write a review today... the interior design of this place is on point feels like I'm back home in California enjoying the beachy vibes. The poke bowl is incredibly fresh and the salad too. If you are craving for poke in Montreal I highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Restaurant is nice and quiet this time of year but it was very Cali vibe with awesome music. The waiter was very friendly and greeted us with a big bottle of water. We ordered the Spanika pizza and the cheese burger. Both dishes were delicious and tasted fresh. Posted a picture of their current menu.

Yelp
Venice was a great spot for a late lunch with a cocktail. My wife and I each sampled a poke from their menu along with a peach bellini and it was a kickstart to the perfect afternoon.

Yelp
definitely would recommend, nice portions salade was the best, i like the cheese and all the toppings

Yelp
Very diverse menu. We ordered a Salmon Poke Bowl. It lived up to its popular reputation! The Salmon Bowl has rice, iceberg lettuce, miso sauce, lychee, cucumber, puffed rice, pickled ginger & tobiko. Extremely delicious as the flavours and ingredients worked perfectly together!! Definitely eating the Poke Bowl again soon. Would also love to try more items from the menu!

Yelp
Was recommended to visit Venice in Montreal to try the poke bowls, but I had doubts about whether or not the poke bowls would be good (as I am from Vancouver and we have a lot of amazing poke spots) so I never prioritized coming here. However, while exploring Old Montreal, I stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to give it a try. It definitely did not disappoint!! We got the Salmon Poke Bowl ($17.95) and the Gjelina Flatbread ($14.45). The Salmon Poke Bowl was delicious! They put a generous amount of salmon, and all the flavours in the bowl really came together. There were yuzu strips, lychee bits, seaweed salad, ginger, seaweed strips and each bite was super refreshing, fresh, and tasty! The Gjelina Flatbread was also delicious as well! My first impression of the pizza when it came was "boy, they skimped out on the prosciutto" as I only saw 3 slices. I was soon proven very wrong as we munched away at the pizza and realized that the ratio of the prosciutto perfect! In addition, the crust was perfectly toasted, and the balsamic vinegar-like sauce on top really complimented how creamy the cheese was. They also layered up the pizza with a lot of arugula and it was overall a great flatbread! The interior was also super beach-y and california like which really nicely contrasts the Old Montreal vibes! Overall, I was super happy with this spot and loved both dishes equally! That is usually rare for me because when I order a few dishes from a restaurant, I usually pick my favourite and have a dish that I gravitate to. Definitely will try other items on the menu next time I'm back!

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Struggled to find a table for 6 in the area and this place was packed. Nevertheless they moved tables around to fit us in. The food was excellent and we all left ha

Yelp
Went with the salmon poke because that's what I was told that is their most popular dish. It was good, but I tried my friend's korean bbq beef tacos and those were exquisite! I had to order my own after trying hers, lol. We had the flatbread too-- it was also delicious The restaurant is pretty small and packs up quick. We sat at the bar-- bartender was great and food came out quick

Yelp
We did takeout the first time and it was good! I'd say a very satisfying 4 stars! The second time, I we went for a sit down lunch. Getting there early during the weekday lunch is essential if you don't want to wait outside--like before 12pm. There are number of tables and about a dozen seats at the bar but the place fills up pretty quick! The decor is beachy fresh and hipstery. The place is lively so the noise level is a bit loud, but not too much. Service was really fast, we had our food in 5 or so minutes. We ordered the salmon, the tofu and the tuna poke bowels and were very very happy with the food. They were 5 star-delish! And the presentation is simple but pops! The salmon bowl had rice krispies, seaweed salad, nori flakes, lettuce, pickled ginger, warm Japanese rice, chunks of salmon, cucumber slices, salmon roe and a sauce that tied everything together. What I loved about it is that the sauce wasn't too loud. You know how some poke bowls have everything just tasting like the sauce? Well this one wasn't! The sauce was just perfect! The only thing missing after my meal was a hammock on the beach so I could nap off my lunch :D
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
This place is usually packed during peak hours, so I decided to try it for a late lunch around 2pm. No problem getting a table... Got the poke tuna dish. It was large and colorful. Tasty and fresh. Very good Poke. The service was a bit erratic, but not bad. Nice great open windows make the space airy and light.

Yelp
I decided to try to this place but don't think I'll be giving it a second chance. I ordered a salmon poke bowl having seen pictures of this particular bowl on their Instagram page. What I got was a lettuce bowl with some of the ingredients even missing, such as lychee, puffed rice, and the flavour sauces - all for only $18 (excl. taxes). It all tasted deliciously bland! Never going back and don't recommend it.
google avatar

Yelp
We were looking for a quick and light lunch while walking around Old Montreal did a quick Yelp search and strolled into this quaint spot. Luckily they were able to seat the 4 of us on a Saturday. The space is cool, lined with mismatched painted tiles, and has a beachside interior vibe. I ordered the smoked salmon toast. It was very good. Perfect fried egg atop. Salmon was cold-smoked well, there was a lot of it, and the yogurt sauce was refreshing and tangy. The toast held up to all the ingredients too. The sweet potato fries were crispy and good, and the curry aioli was very nice. The Bourbon Lemonade tasted only of lemonade, so that was kind of disappointing. Prices are very fair and solid food!
google avatar

Jenny T.

Yelp
I have nothing bad to say about this place. The interior decor is so cute! They don't take reservations but they were able to accommodate the group of us 8 girls after a reasonable wait time. I had their special, which is their egg sandwich, which came with sweet potato fries and a side of the tastiest sauce made with turmeric. I also had their green tea latte, which they made with almond milk. This is hipster haven and everything was seriously delicious. If this place was in Toronto, there would be line-ups out the door. So underrated. Service was fantastic and they were good with splitting bills and managed it very eloquently.

Yelp
This place is amazing.. I was drawn in by the fun vibe. It's popular for a reason. ..great food, great atmosphere, great service, reasonable prices, and an attractive setting. The menu seems healthy... vegetarian & gluten free... so many choices. The poke bowl was "out of the world" delicious ...rice tofu crispy shallots pineapple edamame souring onion and a sweet chili sauce ... huge portions 3 of us ate it to finish it. We also had chicken tacos 2 in a plate... was also fantastic.. the filling was just too much so we asked for additional tortillas so literally it was more like 4 taco a plate. The service was great... highly recommend!

Yelp
After going to the Pointe-à-Callière Museum we stopped by for a bite for lunch. The vibe was very energetic. Being from California I liked the design. There was a bridal party and they were really whooping it up. Can you say shots? It's a small place and a first we sat at the bar but soon a table opened up so we moved. I had a Kronenburg weiss beer which was very good. Had two in fact! I had the fish tacos and they were really tasty. It was just right as it was summer and we were walking around so didn't want to get too full. My wife had a salad which was also very good. They also had poke bowls and the like. Would def go back.

Yelp
We started our trip to Canada having pokes at Venice MTL, and decided to end the trip having lunch at the same place again! The Tuna, Salmon and Shrimp Pokes are all fresh and tasty. Each one works well with either rice or kale, or half and half. Servers we had were all kind and bilingual. Will stop by again at the next trip.
google avatar

Jan C.

Yelp
This place is kind of a mix of California and Mexican cuisine. Some cool food options. Edamame has a kind of sauce on it, like the one on Mexican corn on the cob. Drink menu is nice, but ours were a bit light on the alcohol. Service was just OK. Nice atmosphere

Yelp
After strolling around Old Port, we decided to try this cute and vibrant place out. It was pretty busy on a Friday evening, but we were able to be seated pretty quick! Just like the place, the waiters and waitresses were very nice and lively with us despite how busy it was. We decided to try the Tuna Poke Bowl on a bed of Kale (+4$), the Spicy Fish Tacos and the Eclectic cocktail. While the food was fresh and tasted great, the cocktail was a bit of a miss as it tasted mostly like alcohol (even after mixing it) and none of the other fruity ingredients shown on the menu. The portion (which is a little small) for the price was a little more expensive compared to other similar restaurants - while they were generous with the tuna, there was not much kale which was an extra 4$ (making the bowl 23$) and the 2 tacos were 13$. Overall, while Venice has a cute and vibrant atmosphere, nice employees and good food, the price for what you get isn't really worth it. I'd recommend Moushi or Koa Lua for poke bowls and Escondite or La Capital Tacos for tacos!
google avatar

Talisa K.

Yelp
If you're trying to decide whether or not to eat here - just do it! Myself and two friends came here on a whim as we were visiting Montreal for the weekend and were trying to find a brunch spot that wasn't crazy expensive but had good quality food. The decor in here is super cute - it just feels so bright and airy. Tons of Instagram photos were taken. The food was crazy good. We ordered a bunch of tacos and a flatbread - every single thing we had was amazing. My favourites hands down were the shrimp tacos and the mushroom flatbread. Insane. Highly recommend!

Yelp
One in my party got horrible food poisoning. Don't get the ahi salad. Great fries though!

Yelp
My companion and I stopped in for an early dinner. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server brought us water and took our orders quickly. I ordered the Korean Power Bowl and my companion ordered Pulled Pork Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. The salmon in my bowl was unbelievably delicious and tender!! Everything in the bowl was perfect! My companion raved about her fries and the dipping sauce during the entire meal. Our server, Zaz, was attentive, friendly and helpful. We will definitely return.....maybe even tomorrow since I'm still thinking about how good it was!!
google avatar

Yelp
Venice is very charming, the decor is very cozy and appealing, and our service started great. They have an excellent selection of wine - but the food was mediocre at best. Not fresh, and once we placed our food order the waiter became pre-occupied. It was not busy, only 3 other tables. I ordered the Mediterranean power bowl and was immediately disappointed as the feta cheese had clearly turned. Not only was it warm as if it had been sitting out but it ruined the whole dish with its awful flavor and aroma. Nobody ever came over to check on our meal, only after we were prepared to walk out did somebody come over. And after all said and done they did not even comp the basically untouched meal. The waiter could barely even come up with a response let alone an apology. Extremely disappointed with the food and service. For the prices they charge this should be top notch fresh. Would not recommend. I have posted a photo of the receipt to prove this is 100% legitimate and not a malicious post.

Yelp
Great decor and atmosphere . Had The salmon and tuna poke bowl 5/5 both so delicious . Highly recommend . Great service

Yelp
I absolutely loved the poke bowl at this place! If you can tolerate the wait, I would really recommend you try this spot! Located in Old Montreal, the venue, with its whitewashed brick walls, raffia light fixtures, and touches of beach themed decor, add to the great laid back feel. The place was packed when we arrived, and this was on a Sunday in the middle of winter at 1:30 pm; I can only imagine what happens here in summer! The menu is fresh and affordable, serving salads, tacos, and poke bowls. I had the tuna poke bowl which was just delicious; bright, fresh, flavourful and great portion size too! Grab a homemade cold pressed juice with your order too; I tried the Santa Monica, beet based juice which was actually super light and lemony! Go to Venice and grab yourself a really healthy meal that's actually so good, I'd have it daily!

Yelp
We were on our way smwhere else for brunch but when we walked by here and realized that they do brunch, we decided why not, let's give it a try. I will not go into details as this isnt my first time writing a review about this place. Lol! We had the Power Bowl (sweet potato fries topped with feta, beans, corn and 2 sunnyside-ups, the matcha pancakes and the avocado toast. Everything was quite good! Although because we are seated SO CLOSE to one another in this place, I was starting to get annoyed at hearing ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING the next table was saying... *sigh* That alone will deter me from coming back here for brunch again. Too early to have to put up with that much lack of space to be honest... lol!
google avatar

Sharon L.

Yelp
Came here upon a few recommendations from people. Kinda disappointed with our salad. My salad was missing very dry...missing dressing. There was salad dressing on 1 leaf. It was hard to ask for more dressing since we only saw our waiter when he took our order. The sweet potato was good. The sauce had an Indian taste to it. It was different and good. Cozy little place that makes you feel you are in California or near the beach. Come early if you want a space during lunch on weekdays. Portion is huge.

kieran h.

Yelp
Service was good. Unfortunately the tacos we ordered were not. It was obvious that the pork had been sitting around for a while as it was dry, tough, and had not even been heated up. Ambiance was nice because there was a cute baby watching Lego videos.
google avatar

Dorothee G.

Yelp
A fun little gem! Hummus and poke were delicious. Friendly staff, fun atmosphere... totally recommend it!

Yelp
Must get dishes/Drinks: Salmon or Tuna Poke Bowls (main) Edamame (side) Cali Ice Tea (drink) So I had been meaning to get to Venice ever since my girlfriend went without me while I was on exchange in Scotland. I really wasn't disappointed! Poke is getting more and more popular in MTL now and Venice is definitely one of the best options. We went on a Sunday afternoon and had to wait for like 15min because we were a group of 6. The restaurant is pretty small inside so I can see this being an issue on very busy days. But the wait past by quickly partially because the manager was super kind and friendly and partially because we ordered cocktails... out of the 4 cocktails we got, my favourite was, the Cali Ice Tea, which really refreshing and has a nice alcohol to ice tea balance. To eat I split the the salmon and tuna Poke Bowls with my girlfriend and stole a couple of Edamame beans from my sister. If you have never had edamame it is an experience in itself but these are perhaps the best ones I have ever had. They had a sweet and spicy sauce on then that really made then to die for. The Poke Bowls were both delicious, very decently portioned and a nice mix of different ingredients really made each one stand out from the other. Unlike other Poke restaurants you don't have many options at Venice, really only 3 but they two that we tried were both delicious and different which is a refreshing change from other poke restaurants where I feel like every dish is just a mix of the same ingredients and all end up tasting the same. All in all I loved the experience, it is busy and the restaurant is small so the food did take some time but bring along good company and you will be fine!
google avatar

Yu Z.

Yelp
Great spot for a quick lunch on a sunny day while walking through old port, good vibes, nice decor and very busy. The shrimp tacos I took were a little let down (not a good value and you basically only taste the coleslaw, shrimp fried in too much batter and lack crispiness), but I will be back to sample their poke bowls.
google avatar

Mary V.

Yelp
The 1st time that I visited this place was for lunch with a good friend. It was a mission to locate the front entrance due to the construction and road blocks. It was worth it since I really enjoyed my experience. The place is bright with fun décor. It was packed during lunch and we were seated at the bar. I prefer to sit at the bar since you see all the action that happens. Despite being busy, our server was quick and attentive. I ordered the tuna poke bowl and was extremely content as the portion was a good size and it satisfied my taste buds. I definitely want to try other items on the menu as it screams healthy and fresh ingredients. I was happy to see gluten free items on the menu.

Yelp
Remember 2016 when there wasn't a poke restaurant on every corner? Venice does. It was a simpler time, when life seemed normal and everything felt like it was going to be okay. THEN, poke restaurants started popping up all over the place. The trend washed over the city. Pushy poke and poke fusion and hokey poke... dark times. But Venice stood strong and waded the storm. Now, it shines in a sea of subpar poke. They don't try too hard, but they don't slack on life either. It's just a really chilled out spot, where you can grab a poke, catch up with a friend and digest at a leisurely pace. Ven/10. Would poke again.

Yelp
Our Airbnb host recommended Venice and I also recommend Venice to anyone who is close to Old Montreal and crave Poke bowls, taco, or a healthy salad. After a full day of eating meat we decided to order the Tofu Poke Bowl (sub. rice with Kale for extra $2) and the Camarrones Tacos. The tacos with battered shrimp was done perfectly, every bite had a bit of crispy shrimp, pickled onion, and sauce. Each order of taco comes with two tacos. and they are a decent size. The tofu poke bowl with kale was refreshing and light (in a good way). The tofu is deep fried (like agedashi tofu), complimented with green onion, edamame, green onion, bits of fried onion, and something similar to hot and sour sauce, lastly the pineapples made the dish top notch. These two dishes was enough to be shared between two people. The restaurant was decorated like a beach house in California, with photos of surfing, skateboarding, and the beach! Wish I could come here again to try the Tuna or Salmon Poke Bowls but leaving next day =( . I noticed next door to the restaurant is also Venice and I believe it is for take-out (i could be wrong). Sorry for the photos being so dark, the server made today extra romantic by dimming the lights ;)

Yelp
Amazing food and great ambiance. The decor in this place will make you think you're in California or some beach outside of Montreal. The food is really good and staff is young and super helpful. The service is quite fast and it is better if you don't go during peak hours to be seated right away. Their cocktails are great and with a nice kick! I definitely recommend this place. ps: their music playlist is so freaking good!!

Yelp
I was craving some salads, something fresh on a hot summer day. The place is beautiful! The decor transports you to a beach front restaurant. I ordered the shrimp poke that was delicious and my bf got the prosciutto pizza with the sweet potato fries and a cocktail. A bit expensive I would say, but worth trying.
google avatar

Sara B.

Yelp
It's so nice to have a fresh new space where you can eat legitimately guilt-free food in style. No sugar-laden, juice-filler smoothies here! Just straight up clean and delicious food served in the most adorable dishes and an über chic atmosphere to boot! The menu is concise but diverse enough to please every conceivable diet that is currently ~on trend~. I had the acai bowl (duh) and my date had the Venice salad. Both were delicious and left us very happy! The space is bright white and looks like a Pinterest board come to life. The staff are quick and kind. The patrons diverse- from your expected basics to professionals out to lunch. This is a great place for an uplifting meal! I can definitely see myself coming back soon.

Yelp
I had a great lunch here a few days ago - I ordered the Salmon Poke bowl and tried a bit of the Korean Beef Tacos. The Salmon Poke bowl included a number of ingredients: rice, seaweed, seaweed salad, cucumber, tobiko, pickled ginger, puffed rice, litchi, and salmon, with a miso yuzu dressing. I liked how all the components mixed in different proportions depending on the bite, except the litchi was occasionally a bit too sweet. The Korean beef from the tacos was tender, but they were really heavy on the mayo, which was a bit of a turn-off. Service was friendly and prompt, so I would return again when in the area - a welcome change to the Montreal food scene.

Yelp
Visiting Montreal didn't expect to find Poke and a Ca theme restaurant, great food, very friendly servers. The bowl had lots of interesting items, wish I would have kept the menu while eating it. A fun place to eat.

Yelp
A rare thing happened last Friday. My husband, my daughter and I were in old Montreal for a guided tour (nothing better than playing tourist in your own city!) and we wanted to eat first. As soon as we saw the restaurant, Venice, we were interested! The deco is very pretty and summery and inviting. The menu is short, but everything looked good! Hubby grabbed 2 tacos, the daughter got a poke bowl (smoked salmon) and I got a flat bread pizza (Gjelina) and it was delish! Now, they have a huge fan in my daughter! They better prepare! ;)
