"Coronado —With views overlooking the Pacific Ocean from the Hotel Del Coronado, Veranda boasts Southern California cuisine with a nod to historic traditions. Open for breakfast and dinner, most of the 159 seats are situated on the elevated outdoor patio with 18 indoor seats. Dishes like grilled artichokes, broiled West Coast oysters with chorizo butter, Veranda’s French dip sandwich, and Angus beef steaks with Dungeness crab are highlights. Certain nights will feature specials like fried chicken on Wednesdays, Creekstone prime rib on Thursdays, and seafood boils with Maine lobster tails on Fridays." - Helen I. Hwang

Had a really nice large group meal here during the winter holiday season. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable, and each person enjoyed their food. The beet salad, clam chowder (served in a mini-bread bowl), French fries were all great....and the seafood tower was amazing! Several people also had the espresso martini at end of meal and it was excellent also.

The breakfast buffet is expensive, but it is worth the money for the experience, atmosphere, and the food. Beach Club casual is fine. There were people with shorts and t-shirts, slacks and button ups, and jeans and polos. But there were no swimsuit clad individuals. This is not a walk off the beach place. But it’s also not a long pants a collar place either. Think classy beach/athleisure wear and you’ll be fine. If you have kids, it’s a great place to hit the beach for some beach strolling. The Hotel has restrooms so if you are planning to go to the beach bring a bag with a change of clothes for the kids.

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Veranda tonight for our three-year anniversary, and we are still speechless. This was, without exaggeration, the best meal we have ever had in our entire lives — and equally, the best service we’ve ever received anywhere. From the moment we sat down, Cody, Joseph, and Armando made us feel genuinely cared for. Not just “good service” cared for — I mean above and beyond, next-level hospitality that you don’t forget. Cody was incredibly warm, attentive, and knowledgeable, making every course feel special. Joseph checked on us with perfect timing every single time, making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. And Armando absolutely elevated the entire experience with flawless presentation, professionalism, and the kind of genuine care that’s rare to find. Every dish was unforgettable — beautifully prepared, perfectly cooked, and presented like something out of a fine dining magazine. We ordered the tomahawk and several sides, and each plate tasted like pure luxury. You can truly feel the passion and craftsmanship in every bite. The ambiance, the view, the food, the team… everything came together in the most extraordinary way. We both left saying the same thing: “That was the best dining experience of our lives.” If you’re visiting the Hotel Del or even just San Diego in general, you absolutely must eat at Veranda — and if you’re lucky enough to be taken care of by Cody, Joseph, and Armando, consider your night made. We’ll remember this evening forever.

We love the Del but the Veranda is a hard NO! We chose this restaurant to celebrate our 44th anniversary, and unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve ever had. Not only was it ridiculously overpriced, but the quality simply didn’t come close to matching the cost. The service was just okay at best—our waiter repeatedly forgot things, which became frustrating as the evening went on. The food, however, was the biggest letdown. My filet was barely a 2-inch square, and the so-called “whole lobster” was chewy, tasteless, and so tiny they brought out three of them—each no bigger than a small shrimp. For the price we paid, this was unacceptable. On a positive note, my wife did enjoy the beet salad, but that was the only highlight of the entire meal. Overall, this was a very, very disappointing experience. Save your money. There are far better places to celebrate a special occasion.

I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I was not satisfied with the taste of anything I ordered. I ordered a Cosmopolitan, and it was warm; the fries were cold, and the chicken I ordered was undercooked. I will also add a picture of the chicken to my review. My friend ordered mac and cheese and added chicken, but she said the chicken was very dry. Our waiter really tried his best and told me I could order anything from the menu to make up for it, but I knew that the new order I would place would be bad as well, so I didn't want to waste any more time

Our experience at The Veranda at Hotel del Coronado was absolutely exceptional. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The food was outstanding—truly memorable—and I was especially thrilled that our Christmas Dinner fell on a Thursday so I could indulge in the famous 36-hour prime rib, which was nothing short of perfection. The setting made the evening even more magical. The weather was beautiful and the lamp heaters added just the right touch of warmth and comfort, allowing us to fully enjoy the outdoor ambiance. Although the hotel was understandably overwhelmed with visitors during the holiday season, it did not detract in any way from our evening. The service remained impeccable—attentive, gracious and seamless throughout the entire meal. The hotel itself is simply breathtaking. This was our first time staying at Hotel del Coronado and our first time dining at The Veranda, and it was an experience we won’t soon forget. A truly gorgeous property paired with incredible dining and service—an unforgettable holiday celebration.

Google
great vibes, romantic, oceanside expected the food to be okay but it actually was outstanding! had the mac and the whole chicken and both were extremely good. Drinks and dessert also delicious. Reasonable prices everything considered. Our waiter was also awesome! The hostess was rude tho but don't let that broke negativity stop you from getting some good food

Google
Beautiful patio views of the ocean with delicious food. The mushrooms were delicious and the crab salad had plenty of crab on top. The old fashion was good, a unique take that tasted good and was not too strong or sweet. Very attentive service and a relaxed, southern California atmosphere.

Yelp
Giving Veranda a 5 star review as it is well deserved for the food, the atmosphere and service, but be aware it is very expensive for being a restaurant that touts itself as being casual . . . perhaps for the Hotel Del Coronado it is. Had Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving day. The meal was good and well presented. Serving sizes were big; you won't leave hungry. The view was obstructed by the ice rink, crowds of skating customers and Zamboni, but if you go any other time of the year I am sure the view would be fine.

Yelp
I made reservations quite awhile ago..got there and was told the booths were already reserved although they stayed empty for duration of our dinner stay.. Our server was attentive and friendly...but forgot our roll order with our entrees. Prices are exorbitant..Brussels were delicious, and crab cake and crab wedge was filled with crab..they did not skimp. I thought I was asking for regular still water, and was served the bottle..and then charged$10 for it?? I guess Hotel Del is another restaurant that no longer acknowledges birthdays.although they did give me a signed card from the staff..it was an afterthought as we had already asked for the bill..the server acted embarrassed and actually apologized for it.. A disappointment in so many ways..

Yelp
The scallop dish here is solid, but at $70 way overpriced for three scallops, a few lentils and a tiny salad. The butternut squash ravioli while decent in base texture, was not well seasoned, and lacked any extra textural bonus to make the dish stand out. Marilyn's favorite dessert "souffle" had nothing in common with a traditional souffle, but was a mildly interesting rosewater doused cold custard with a spiral of merengue that added a necessary textural component. No on site bathroom means you have to go to the public restroom in the super crowded hotel check-in area instead, which is unacceptable.

Yelp
Nice vibe with great view, and food is much better than we expected. Service is attentive and friendly. My girlfriend and I both like the scallops. The risotto is okay, a bit under seasoned. The dessert is pretty and unique.

Yelp
Veranda at the Del is pure coastal bliss. The moment you step onto the terrace you are greeted by a soft ocean breeze, the glow of Coronado's sand, and that timeless Hotel del Coronado charm. It feels effortlessly elegant, relaxed, and special all at once. Service is gracious and attentive without being rushed. Our host seated us with a beautiful view, waters were refilled before we had to ask, and our server guided us to great choices with genuine warmth. The food is fresh, bright, and full of California flavor. Think crisp salads with peak produce, perfectly cooked seafood, and shareable plates that disappear fast. Cocktails are balanced and beachy, the wine list is thoughtful, and the mocktail options are just as fun. Come for sunset if you can, the sky puts on a show and the patio becomes magic. It is an easy choice for date night, a leisurely lunch with friends, or a celebratory family dinner. Reserve a table with an ocean view, give yourself time to stroll the beach, and let Veranda remind you why dining by the sea never goes out of style.

Yelp
My boyfriend's parents were doing a little staycation at the Del so we joined them for the Breakfast Buffet at Veranda, one of their many dog friendly restaurants. No wait on a Wednesday morning at 11am. We were seated and the treated by Rey Rey. He made our breakfast so much more enjoyable. He was attentive and so kind! He would check in on us and make sure we had no empty plates on our table. The weather was just great that day, so sitting outside with family and stuffing our faces was the best way to start the day. We did their regular breakfast buffet, but you are able to upgrade for more. The upgrade comes with made to order breakfast items. If you do eat here, ask for Rey Rey for a great experience!

Yelp
One of the new, post remodel, restaurants.... It's right up my alley with an excellent smash burger!! The Veranda knows which way the wind is blowing!!!! We also had the halibut the whole chicken, asparagus, salads, so on and so forth .... See recipe: all good to excellent .... All the drinks were good as you would expect..... The Parker House rolls deserve mention, I could live on them in water !!!!' The service is exceptional. We were speaking with some of the servers and some have been working there 30 and 40 years. They really take pride in their jobs, which is so refreshing these days. A great deal of the restaurant is on the patio, which is where we were always seated. Casual with the ocean a couple hundred yards away.... Blissful.

Yelp
We stopped in for brunch with a beautiful view and ambience while visiting San Diego. The buffet was $50 per person, however the items such as build your own omelette and $19 mimosa were extra charges. This could easily add up with an added beverage to more like $80 per person.

Yelp
Enjoyed dinner here on a Friday evening with my fiancee. We shared the crab cake, ceasar salad, seared diver scallops, 8oz CAB filet, and two lovely dessert. The salad was extremely refreshing and a great size to share. Seared scallops were my favorite. Very well cooked and flavored deliciously. The filet wasn't necessarily plated as beautiful and was a bit dry for me however the service was fantastic and the view was amazing. Restaurant does get pretty busy but yet the servers are very attentive of any additional drinks or food needed. It's also on a patio deck so it feels quite fresh to be out there on a fall evening. Would return again and try other dishes. Both desserts we tried were plated beautifully! I'd highly recommend the strawberry one. Chocolate one was a bit overwhelming for me but if you like chocolate, it might just be it for you!

Yelp
Veranda is the newly opened outdoor dining venue at the Hotel Del Coronado. Over 100 guests can be seated on the terrace facing the southern edge of the property overlooking the beachfront. After sunset, a plethora of heat lamps are fired up so that diners are not shivering while eating and drinking al fresco. Reservations can be made on OpenTable if you are not a guest of the hotel. The menu was described by an article as "contemporary Californian" with featured nights on Wednesday (fried chicken), Thursday (prime rib), and Friday (seafood boil). The two-page food menu listed shareables, soups, and salads on one side and mains, grill (steaks), sides, and desserts on the other side. Beer, wine, cocktails, mocktails, and spirits were displayed on a separate two-page menu for libations. I walked up to the hostess stand without a reservation, and they added me to a waitlist. Within 20 minutes, I was escorted to a table. From the shareables, I selected the Parker House Rolls which were served as a set of six pull apart pieces. Cultured butter was provided on the side. The buns were very soft and addictive. For an entree, my choice was the California Halibut Veracruz. A halibut fillet was garnished with fingerling potatoes, tomato, olive, capers, fresh oregano, and lemon. The item was served in a shallow bowl which made the portion size seem small for the $40+ price. The ambiance glowed with neon pink lighting that caused my photos to appear less focused than usual. The service from the waitstaff was adequate. For the food quality and cost, I gave a four star rating for my dinner at Veranda.

Yelp
The best combination of atmosphere, food and service! We came here on our last night in San Diego because we were told we had to see the hotel Coronado. Well worth it! To eat dinner and watch the sunset just feet from the beach is a dream and the food was the perfect addition. My husband isn't a seafood guy ( I AM!!) so he had the Mac and cheese with chicken breast added; I had the divers scallops with pea risotto. Not 1 critique, being from Monterey Bay Area, I love good seafood and this was delicious, cooked perfectly which is rare, the Risotto was delicious but I love peas. We shared a Caesar salad, fresh and flavorful with crispy cheese croutons in it. Also shared their Parker house rolls, wow! Takes me back to Sunday dinner at grandmas house. Our waiter was Manny, he makes you feel like family, definitely a wonderful end to a birthday vacation and the chocolate cake to finish it didn't hurt either. Rich and chocolatey, perfect way to end the evening.

Yelp
This restaurant is 5 out of 5 as far as atmosphere , views and the fact that it's nestled in hotel del Coronado and its charms. Other than that it becomes extremely busy , the food is average but quite expensive. I tried the hamburger and it was soggy and lukewarm.

Yelp
Excellent Ambience Exceptional service Somewhat limited menu, nevertheless good options of land & sea products.

Yelp
Had a really great experience because of Charlene at the hostess desk- even though the restaurant was slammed she still took the time to accommodate us and make us feel special.

Yelp
I had no intention of fasting all day, but I think it's all worth it as I end up in this open air "veranda" with an abundance of fresh air and an awesome view of the ocean and just beauty all around! The set up was cozy, the seat was fantastic and comfortable.... The seating wait time was reasonable and the food- was epic! I ordered the Prime Steak, their special for Thursday and it was cooked to perfection! The side bread and mashed potatoes was also unforgettable! I would highly recommend a sweater if you come for dinner:)

Yelp
I went for dinner on a Sunday with a few friends. We've eaten here before the rebrand and it was great. This time, the experience was not great. First, the heat lamps are paired together with another table. So a mother there with her two teenage daughters who all had jackets with them but didn't want to wear them needed the heat lamp on so we had no choice but to roast under the lamp with them. No problem, I'll sweat into my $100 steak so you don't have to put your jacket on. Then, there was some confusion on the pricing of the bottle of wine we ordered but we owned the mistake and agreed, no problem. The manager then comes out with someone else, possibly a trainee, to show us the wine list to point out that we were wrong as if to say "I told you so" and when we told him, no need to do this we already said it was our mistake he suggested we have another glass... it felt very classless to come out to say I told you so to your diners who just spend $600 at dinner and were very clear how uncomfortable it is with these heat lamps on so high and so close to the table. Finally, the food was just ok. Hard to mess up a steak but the sides were dry and lacked flavor. My friend who got the halibut said it was amazing and the smashburger was fine. Only giving 2 stars because our waitress Rachel was wonderful. Otherwise, there are much better restaurants in Coronado, you can skip this.

Carlyn S.

Yelp
My partner and I go here often for dinner, I went this week and the food was amazing as usual (I had the crab cake and risotto) but the service was a struggle. My server was no where to be found and we weren't getting the attention we normally receive here. Our drinks took about 20 minutes to get to our table after we ordered. We'll be back to try again but this was a disappointment.

Yelp
We stopped in for some desert and hot tea after a lovely night and in old Hollywood slang, it was "Boffo!" We were seated immediately and our server was great. Smiles and very knowledgeable about the deserts. I really liked the way he treated us even though we were not having a full meal. It was a delight. We had the iconic Marylin Monroe frozen soufflé and the chocolate cake with a killer mirror glaze poured over it. Chef Dave, the pastry chef came to our table and personally did the presentation and he was amazing. But... the deserts were even more amazing. The iconic cold soufflé was perfection. Every bite a sensation. It's hard to even describe the love I had for this desert. There is a rose water elixir that is poured around it and rose can be "soap" tasting but this was elegant and refined to the enth degree. The chocolate cake was soooooo delicious (and rich) that it can be easily shared. The dense cake with the multiple layers is just dandy and the mirror glaze is not only pretty it tastes great, too! Over all it could not have been better and we cannot wait to go back for a full meal. We sat inside but they have most tables on a covered patio or under umbrellas and here are heaters galore so you won't get cold. A perfect way to end a lovely night

Yelp
California Halibut Veracruz (fingerling potatoes, tomato, olive, capers, fresh oregano, lemon) - delicious!! The flavor was spot on and I just loved this overall dish. The fingerling potatoes were very few, which was just fine by me since that was the only part o wasn't in the mood for. They were cut into bite sized pieces of colorful potatoes. Portion was decent. Pasta Primavera (asparagus, tomato, red onion, english peas, baby squash, lemon butter sauce) - good flavor! Portion was fair, not a little bit not a lot. Side creamy spinach - good Side mushrooms - very good! The Chocolate Cake (blackout coffee sponge, dark chocolate mousse, cocoa pearl crunch, ethereal chocolate glaze) - decadent and yummy. Rich. This was recommended by the waiter. Warm California Date Cake (salted caramel sauce, candied pecan streusel, vanilla bean gelato (contains nuts)) - yummmm!! Warm and loved the streusel on top. Service - fabulous' our waisted was super nice with a really great attitude. Price - expensive. But that's what I would expect from a restaurant inside this hotel Ambiance - overlooks the primary grass area at the hotel. If you know, you know. Then you can see the beach a while further.

Yelp
Veranda restaurant at the Hotel Del was Amazing! The food & service was 5 stars! The Ambiance was everything! Dining outside with an ocean view was beautiful!

Regina L.

Yelp
We went to Veranda to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. We have been for breakfast, but our first time for dinner. It was glorious - did not disappoint. Everything was perfect. First, the food - we had the parker rolls as an appetizer, then the CAB 8 oz. prime filet, mac and cheese (with lobster) with mushrooms and truffle fries as the sides. The taste of all the dishes was wonderful - full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and the freshest of ingredients. Next, the service - our server was Lukas and he could not have been better. From the minute we were seated, he began a conversation with us and by the end of the meal, it felt like we were old friends. He is clearly terrific at what he does - and at such a young age (we asked - he is 23) it's unusual to find someone that good at connecting with people. He even gave us a delicious chocolate cake for our anniversary! Must also mention that everyone else who served us was first rate - our water was always filled (with a smile and kind word) and anyone who came to the table couldn't have been nicer. Finally, the ambiance - fantastic view of the back grounds of the hotel and the water, making you forget all your cares and just take in the beauty of the surroundings. You can tell how much we loved the experience - it's definitely a must go place. Yes, not cheap, but overall for what you get, definitely worth it!

Yelp
Lovely outdoor restaurant at the Del. Great and friendly service, beautiful outlook over lawn, beach and ocean. The food was delicious and there was a great variety. Would definitely eat there again!

Amanda M.

Yelp
Such an amazing restaurant had the amazing breakfast buffet had a mouthwatering dinner. Excellent service excellent food Melissa was the best.

Corin H.

Yelp
We ate there on Saturday night and the hostess was very rude, we had reservations for months because my boyfriend had proposed and planned a whole special weekend so he took me ice skating then to dinner at hotel del but the hostess was annoyed that we were even there and said she had no tables and discouraged us from sitting inside because she said it's "colder" inside even though it's December it seemed like she didn't want us sitting inside, then sat us at a bad table away from the heaters when there was plenty of open tables the whole time we dined. Then it felt like they were trying to rush us out of there. It was a bummer because we were so excited and the whole staff just seemed annoyed so it really just ruined the experience.

Darren D.

Yelp
We went to the Veranda at the Hotel Del Coronado on a Tuesday evening in December. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. Everyone was very friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed. We had the Crab cake and the Parker rolls as our appetizers. Both of these were outstanding. Out entrees included Rack of Lamb, While Chicken, and Butternut Squash Rissotto. The lamb was succulent and the accompanying sauce was delicious. The chicken was very flavorful. The rissotto was creamy and delicious. My family and I loved it. Excellent food and service.

Paige M.

Yelp
This was the most mediocre 100 dollar meal I've ever had. The burger was just okay. The rolls were tasty but overpriced. Our service was absurdly slow. We waited 30 minutes for anyone to even ask if we wanted to place a drink order. Everything took forever without explanation. At somewhere this expensive, I expected a visit from a manager, but it seemed no one cared. Beautiful atmosphere and great views, but that's the best thing about it. We're local and come to the Del a lot to visit and enjoy, but we won't be back to this restaurant.

Chuck L.

Yelp
If you're looking for an oceanview sunset dinner, there are many other places with similar food quality and more reasonable prices. It's really targeted at their captive clientele of guests who don't want to venture off property. Their wine mark-up is 5x rather than usual 3x and a single crabcake appetizer will run you $36. Even the oceanview experience is marred by the boisterous lawn full of beachgoers. In summary: good food, mediocre ambiance and high prices.

Ellen J.

Yelp
Fried chicken was too spicy to eat. Should be indicated on menu Crab cake was not even lump crab & so salty Primavera was ok Sokol was a seasoned server Ambiance the best A shame that food was not a match Manager could not have cared less!!

Cathie W.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! The ambiance was just as we expected excellent. The filet and lobster cooked to perfection. The chocolate dessert was dreamy.

Yelp
Service was amazing. Beautiful restaurant with seating overlooking the ocean and they have heaters too. We enjoyed sharables, a salad, and drinks! Would come back again.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I celebrated her birthday at Veranda on a Saturday night. Our server, Cody, was amazing! He guided us through the menu and made some great suggestions. The food was delicious and prepared perfectly. I would highly recommend this restaurant with its great ambiance. The food and service were beyond expectations! Don't forget dessert. Cheers!

Azadeh A.

Yelp
Such a beautiful setting for a restaurant! Can't beat ocean view! We had the breakfast buffet, which was probably one of the best breakfast buffets that we have had! The food was delicious and everything was so fresh! The service was outstanding! Our server was Ray and he couldn't have done a better job at taking care of us! Highly recommend!
