"For Mexican, look no further than Verde’s, where the spicy salsa is plentiful, to pair along with tacos, fajitas, and enchiladas. Surprisingly, the chipotle-honey glazed pork chop is a sure bet." - Nadia Chaudhury

I’m new to Austin. I’ve been told by multiple people that I’ve got to eat at Verde’s, “it’s the best” they say. Yeah, it’s definitely not the best. The food was good, not great. We had fajitas, for $25 you got a small chicken breast on top of grilled onions and bell peppers and half a plate of street corn. Same set up on the steak fajitas. The flavor on both were good, chicken was tender and moist—which is good! The chips and salsa were below average—chips looked and tasted store bought. Salsa was salty—and you’re reading a post from a guy that likes his salt! Service was average and they weren’t very busy. I’m sure I’ll be back, but it won’t be my first choice.

Nice little lunch drive out west Austin towards the lake. Incredible server I am not sure if she always has the lunch shift but she was running that place like the Navy Seals. 10/10 would visit again

We arrived before the dinner rush and received wonderful service! The food was good. I had the fajitas. The portion was generous, and I had to take the rest home in a container. We all had the horchata to drink, which was good. There is a nice play area for families with kids, which is a bonus!

Everything we tried was remarkably unappetizing. My son’s cheese quesadilla was charred on one side and barely cooked on the other and the fries were covered in black pepper. I ordered steak fajitas that came with the side of rice and a scoop of dehydrated refried beans that were almost certainly were left over from last night’s catering or an all you can eat buffet. I’m talking hardened into the shape of a cafeteria scooper and fully crusted over. I’d call them a refried bean fritter. Or biscuit? Ironically, they were still the most palatable aspect of my dish. Everything on the fajita pan was overly salted and peppered and oily and the corn tortillas were microwaved to chewy, leathered oblivion. Admittedly, I requested new tortillas that were less nuked and as we were leaving I noticed a neighboring table was served standard, creamy refried beans so maybe fresh food is better, but our meal was all around bad.

Google
Nice decor and friendly, prompt service though at close to 1pm it wasn't crowded. The margaritas were okay. The food was plentiful and tasty though not over the top. Those looking for vegetarian options will find many. Nice area outside is you were there with kids. We'd likely go again if in the area.

We hired Verdes Restaurant for catering at our recent event and were absolutely blown away! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented — every guest raved about it. The service was just as impressive: professional, organized, and so easy to work with. They made the entire experience stress-free and elevated our event in every way. If you're looking for top-tier catering with unforgettable food and seamless service, Verdes is the way to go! Highly recommended.

Google
Stopped in on my way to a baseball tournament with only 10min to spare. Asked if i could get fajitas togo in that amount of time and the waiter said they could. They hustled and got my food to me and I made it on time. The fajitas were amazing. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. They come with corn that was some of the best I’ve ever had. Thanks for accommodating my urgency and not sacrificing the quality. Will be back.

Google
This is a review for their catering service. They catered our daughter's wedding at Pecan Springs Ranch in Austin. Alana, the catering manager, was amazing. The food was wonderful and the way they organized the buffet was perfect. We counld not have been happier. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Verde's offers great tex-mex fare in an attractive setting. The pork belly quesadillas and bacon wrapped quail were excellent. The margaritas were outstanding as well. The service did a good job, as we did not feel rushed or unattended. Would prefer the salsa be spicy, but that is the only complaint I had to our evening. Definitely check them out as the ingredients really shine.

Felix D.

Yelp
The service was fine, they're why this place gets two stars. The food is some of the most aggressively mediocre Tex Mex you'll ever have. Pales in comparison to Guadalupe's, Pappasitos, Lupe Tortilla, Chuys, and pretty much every other mid-tier Tex Mex restaurant. The food was delivered lukewarm to cold. The sides to the fajitas were served with a pool of liquid from the pico soaking the entire dish, alongside browning guacamole. The flour tortillas are honestly a disappointment, which is difficult to do. The steak was chewy in the fajitas. I challenge you to find a piece that isn't chewy. I challenge you. The salsa was okayish to good. The tortilla chips were mid. The whole place is just aggressively mediocre. You're better off at most other well known Tex Mex restaurants

Yelp
Update December 2023 Verde's delivers quality Tex-Mex food. Another good meal enjoyed recently... the complimentary chips and salsa are da bomb! Light crisp chips, and the salsa tastes like it just came out of the garden... super fresh ingredients! We had a couple of the "Lime in the Coconut" cocktails, reminiscent of a pina colada, but better, and not too sweet. Very good. For food, we settled on the pollo flautas (chicken flautas) and the fish tacos. Both were very good, and the flautas were some of the best we've ever had. The tacos were stuffed full of fish and fresh veggies. We sat at the bar this visit, and the bartender was super-busy, so not much time to visit. Recommend Verde's for good Tex-Mex in the Dripping Springs area.

Yelp
The Chicken Enchiladas we're phenomenal. Overall come as very pleased with my dining experience. The wait staff were super friendly, the restaurant well managed. The inside was clean and provided a good atmosphere for dining. I feel lucky to have such a great spot close to home.

Yelp
Head Chef Cody always has several interesting specials in addition to a solid main menu. Staff is always great and very attentive / professional. Nice private room for meetings too. Thanks Chef Cody for all you do for our Veterans, Law Enforcement and Boy Scouts!

Anna M.

Yelp
Had Verde's cater a banquet last night! Phenomenal! Pork was my favorite, but the queso has to be my favorite in all of Austin! Banquet staff was outstanding! Highly recommend them for any event!

Hannah H.

Yelp
Just came here for dinner I was craving some good Mexican food. My service was great, but I ordered the chicken enchiladas, the verde sauce on them was delicious however when I cut into the enchiladas I was greeted with the unpleasant smell of canned chicken, how do I know it's canned the color is a dead giveaway of canned chicken and the smell is godawful, me and my husband both lost our appetite he ordered the Cody nachos and he was so disgusted he ended up not wanting anymore of his food. Chicken is one the easiest birds to cook. Sincerely disappointed I won't be eating here again.

Ranjana S.

Yelp
Food : 5 star Always did a take out . The portion is so huge and can easily share 2 adults . I order chicken fajita plate and it comes with huge portion of chips salsa rice beans guac and other condiments . Salsa tastes amazing and food is great , highly recommend this place .

Jason F.

Yelp
Never again.... The service was the worst I've had in Austin, and the food wasn't suitable to serve to my dog. I ordered the "Carne Asada" which amounted to tire tread with a sauce that tasted like sour dumpster-juice. Seriously, DO NOT waste your time with this place. The "positive" reviews have had to come from the owner's friends or people that drank so much alcohol they couldn't taste the food. Won't get me again!

Josh S.

Yelp
First time there, unfortunately they're short staffed. We took the chance on this place and the food turned out horrible. Rice wasn't fully cooked, enchiladas didn't taste right. My plate looked un touched and server didn't ask if it was ok, just do you need a to go box. I get it that's it not her fault but over hour wait for food with only 4 tables being served.... That's just not ok especially for a total bill it $100. I am surprised this place is even a 4 star...

Carol R.

Yelp
How in the world is this place still in business? Food 2/5. My husband's was not edible and mine was cold. Drinks. 3/5. All ice Service. 1/5. Wrong order and painfully slow Value 1/5. So overpriced you would think it was gourmet, very small portions Nice fireplace but room is drab and outdated and hardly anyone there on a Saturday. Good news is you can get in on a Saturday with a larger party and no reservation.

Gregory M.

Yelp
I ate here with my family the food was amazing I chose the beef/chicken fajitas and they tasted amazing. They have one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever had in Austin as well. The service was fast and exceptional. The little fireplace and cozy rooms really tied together the great food and service.

Kathy D.

Yelp
After waiting an hour and a half due to shortage of staff, waited after being seated and ignored (probably wait staff was embarrassed being so busy...my son had to grab a guy to wait on us who was great! I think he was Mark. Very friendly and apologetic. The pork chop wasn't as good as last time (few months ago). My daughter-in-law ordered chicken and waffles so they popped in a couple H-E-B waffles in the toaster and gave her a couple breaded chicken breasts. She ate "one bite". Very disappointing. Guess the cooks quit also Took it home and threw out the waffles, made my husband a sandwich for work the next day out of the breasts! Mine was good, chicken with a cream sauce? My son got shrimp and grits.. was ok. Sad to see one of our favorite restaurants go downhill.

Allison C.

Yelp
I really like the fact that I live right by here. Good Mexitini and beef fajita. I am working my way through the menu! Have not had anything I didn't like yet.

Aurora H.

Yelp
I loved the food here and the service. It was home style gringo Mexican food. Good flavors.

Tony J.

Yelp
Conner at the bar was fantastic. Food was good. Sad to say as we were finished and relaxing with company, we saw a big rat run across the dining room and into the fireplace. You don't want to know what one of the servers said about it as we hopped up to leave (ie it's not the first time they saw it is all I can say...) And gnats were pretty prominent at the bar as they had to cover all the spouts (good practice, but it shouldn't be gnats and flies to make you do it).

Dave H.

Yelp
We felt like Mexican food tonight, so we swing by for days. I tried a dish I never tried before which was stuffed well. It's stuffed with Mexican rice and chorizo wrapped in bacon, and served with green beans and sliced tomatoes. It was very good. My wife had beef fajitas and let me tell you, you get quite the feast when you buy fajitas. Couldn't finish either dish but as always it looked up for expectations. Our server, Edeline, provided great service to us. If you're in bee cave on Hamilton Pool Road give this place a try and ask for her section.

Robert D.

Yelp
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! My wife and I recently tried this unassuming restaurant on the way home after an afternoon of running errands. To be honest, my expectations were not high, and I assumed that the food would be some version of TexMex. I could not have been more wrong!! You MUST try the chicken poblano enchiladas before you die! We enjoyed our meal so much that we decided to enjoy the enchiladas for our Christmas dinner! When we stopped in on Christmas Eve to place our order, we had the privilege of meeting the restaurant owner, Cody. He shared some of the history of the restaurant and its unique artwork and ended up preparing our order himself. The meal was truly a culinary experience. Cody has elevated the average Mexican meal to a treat for the palette. Every bite was like the first, delightfully stunning and thought provoking. Thank you for doing that for us, and for the reheating instructions you added to the foil cover on the enchiladas!! The food was nothing short of INCREDIBLE, we will definitely be back for more. Yelp
This was a pretty disappointing experience. I live about six minutes away from Verdes and have since it opened. I frequently visited it over the years, but this experience has ruined it for me. I was there with my family of six, we all ordered a drink, appetizers, and meals. We waited about 40 minutes, which isn't that big a deal, and when the server came out with five meals, he told me they didn't have my meal anymore. It was a burger . Didn't bring a menu, offer any apologies. He did ask if I wanted something else, but with everybody else's meal already on the table it seemed crazy to order another meal and wait 30 minutes. My daughter had the cheese enchiladas and the cheese wasn't melted. It was like eating a cold cheese stick wrapped in a tortilla, two other family members got shrimp and grits and beef enchiladas and they were both topped in a spaghetti sauce. It's just sad to see a place that used to be good go downhill much. I couldn't find a manager, so nothing was comped paid full price and I didn't get to eat.

Deborah R.

Yelp
This place was a pleasant surprise. We started with the Queso & Chips (Eight (8) oz melted cheese with tomato, onion, poblano pepper, and cilantro). It was so good a second one was ordered with the meal (I cannot recall us ever ordering a second severing at another restaurant). The guacamole tasted freshly made. Our family of five adults and one child had the "Grande Parrillada", this is served family style (for 4-6 people), it includes beef, chicken, pork fajita, 2 semi boneless quail, and 4 bacon wrapped shrimp; and includes rice, beans, tortillas, guac, pico, sour cream, and cheese. The meat was cooked perfectly, tender, and seasoned well. It was the perfect amount of food, we all left full and happy.

Sheena H.

Yelp
The food is top notch. Verde's catering service is excellent- highly recommend! The staff is friendly and very professional.

Clark C.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place!! So exceptionally flavorful & moderately priced. Started with the Verde side salad, which was at bargain at only $4 with entree! (see pic). It was delicious, fresh, and a great way to start my meal. We soon received the entrees, and the presentation was simple but it showcased every component to the meal. We dug in and I was extremely impressed. The flavor was outstanding in every part of the meal: the rice, the green beans, the black beans, and the chicken breast. My daughter and wife enjoyed the meal equally as much and the portions were just perfect. There was a playscape in the back and tons of outdoor seating. Overall had a great experience and it's a great place to bring your kids as well. Highly recommend!!

Shelton C.

Yelp
Service was great. Food just ok. Had need and chicken fajitas for two and it just was ok. Dinned here before and was much better. Might go back and maybe not.

Nancy D.

Yelp
We used Verdes catering for a 100 person rehearsal dinner and everything was great. The food was delicious and the service was above and beyond. From the tasting, to the planning, to the set up and clean up... Cody and Alanna were awesome! They held my hand the entire way and were accommodating to my every change and request. THANK YOU VERDES!

Ed S.

Yelp
Not a great place for a sit at the bar date night. Bartender was extremely rude last night 2/21. Totally ruined the outing. Jerk.

Kevin C.

Yelp
Very average mexican food for austin. Service was good but food, particularly the soup, was cold.

Sean C.

Yelp
The service really sucked. The girl wouldn't look at u in the eyes and seemed to only speak directly to my mother. Then the food wasn't any better we've been there three times, and this last time not only did they serve green beans(this is Texas not California) but chicken fajitas were overcooked and my dads chicken was undercooked! I was utterly disappointed as it was the only good Mexican food anywhere close to Horseshoe Bay.

Erika S.

Yelp
We wanted to like this place since it's near home, but we'll never go back. I rarely leave bad reviews since we're pretty easy going diners, but we were just so completely disappointed with our food and our service. Employees were polite when we saw them, but were also very neglectful - took at least 10 minutes to be asked about drinks after sitting down & they were never refilled even when empty . Food was very inconsistent ranging from good but bland to terrible... carne asada was so over cooked & tough that it could barely be chewed.

Christina H.

Yelp
I didn't expect much after arriving at a single restaurant located in the middle of nowhere. However, Verde's Mexican Parrilla completely exceeded my expectations. I ordered take out and was pleased with how everything was packed neatly in divided containers. The food: Remove everything you think you know about TexMex (Cheesy entree with a side of Spanish rice and refried beans), replace that with no expectations. Reason being, I ordered the Stacked Poblano Chicken Enchiladas and when I opened my takeout, I saw stacked tortillas with pulled chicken and loads of white melted cheese & chopped cilantro on top-- not your typical enchilada. After taking a bite, just wow. I couldn't get enough. In addition, the chips and salsa were so fresh, you could taste the power of the cilantro. Will easily return without hesitation.

Yelp
Have had this place on our radar for quit sometime, sadly we just dont get over this way very often....But the stars aligned and the wife and I had the same day off. Arrived upon opeing, the place is clean and nicely decorated and on the classier side of things. We were seating and the usual starters hit the table. Chips, Salsa and Queso. They hit there mark for sure. Always happy to see a cup of Chicken Tortilla soup offered. Its an ancho based soup which makes it wicked good. Plenty of goodies in it as well....Definitely one of the better ones I have tried. We both went with the enchiladas which come in a stacked form..... Wife did the Beef with Ranchero Sauce and double rice.....Myself I went with Chicken with a Poblano Cream Sauce....Rice and refried Black beans. Everything was really good and they were stacked and packed. Plating was a bit sloppy and the service was a little off as we were the only ones there. We do go thru chips and water pretty quick before the meal arrives....which were long gone before the food showed up.....Overall we give it a thumbs up and will keep it on the radar if we are in the area as there are several other menu items I would love to try....and they offer an insane amount of different side dishes!

Shaelyn Y.

Yelp
This is hands down the best Mexican food I have had in recent memory. I had the Pollo Palomino, and I could eat that dish every day. Everything from the salsa and queso to start and drinks to our main dish was EXCEPTIONAL.

Chris A.

Yelp
I have no idea how this place can actually be rated well unless people are sloshed before they eat, they buy their positive reviews or people are just blinded by the fact this is the only Mexican place around in a 20 min drive. Chips are not homemade. This is just sad. I can have bagged chips at home and they are better quality. I had the stacked chicken enchilada. I'm positive this is canned chicken. They literally just took tortillas and canned chicken and threw some sauce on it and put it under a heating lamp to melt the cheese. It was just god aweful. Not cooked or even hot. The rice was underdone and crunchy. The tortilla soup was just broth with a slice of avocado on the top and tasted like putrid. My husband's taco salad was a stale taco shell. It was also not homemade. It was the worst quality of beef. They literally served a cup of beef with some lettuce sprinkled on it with plastic cheese served in a stale shell. My son's shrimp fajitas tasted like sugar and had a strange seasoning. His rice was also not done, and his meal was Luke warm at best. Hard pass. Just grateful we all didn't get sick. Won't ever be back.

Chipp W.

Yelp
Been going here forever and really never thought much one way or another about this place. In fact I quit going for a year as there was nothing special to come back for. Went with the missus last night and WOW had the fajitas and were they good! As previous, the service was very good. Will be returning soon.

Gayle S.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service. You have to try the veggie relleno, stacked enchiladas and fajitas....sooo good! I want to eat my way through the menu. Great fusion of Mexican and the grill.

Sherrill J.

Yelp
Read reviews and wanted to check it out. Chips and Salsa were great. The server was really friendly and enjoyable. Margarita's (rocks) were tasteless--really poor. I had the Stacked Ranchero Beef Enchiladas. It was tasty. Following that, I had a really bad stomach ache (first in years) and bloated. I didn't know why. 2 days later I ate the leftovers I'd brought home--about a third of the order. Same result. I've eaten a tremendous amount of this cuisine in my life. I don't know if it was that specific dish or not. We won't return to find out.

Jeremiah B.

Yelp
Great queso. Food takes about 45min - an hour Good environment and vibe. Friendly staff

Dhwanil S.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place but it was a big let down in food. Their service is good but food is really not upto the mark. Let's start with chips and salsa where salsa was very sour. This was a big red flag. Though queso was okay. Coming to drinks, margarita on rocks literally had no flavor and martini was even worst. Their avacado tacos needs some work as it seemed like low grade version of avocado tacos from torchys. We also ordered kids Mac and cheese where it was cold pasta with hot cheese. Side of rice and beans my wife ordered in which rice also came a bit cold. So freshness of food is also missing. Surely won't come again anytime soon.

Maggie F.

Yelp
Food has come out raw every time I've been. It's horrible and I have tried going back several times but each time it comes out raw. Don't go

Dan N.

Yelp
Just dined here. Chips, salsa, queso and frozen marg all great. Sadly, the chicken/ waffles and the fish tacos were both the worst we've ever had. Let me elaborate so hopefully the business can correct: 1. The chicken part of chicken/waffles was decent as were the grits. The Belgian Waffle was so bizarrely gross both in texture and flavor. Our best guess is that these were either cooked hours ago and then refrigerated or maybe frozen. Worst Waffle hands down we've ever experienced and this is a go-to brunch dish for us. 2. The fish used in fish tacos was among the worst we've ever had too. The mango cabbage slaw on top was ok but really needed more dressing. There was a very tiny amount of some sauce that was good nowhere near enough to help with the nasty tasting fish or the super dry slaw. Not sure what fish they used but it was a hot mess under that beautiful looking slaw. 3. Service was friendly but pretty sure she forgot to put in the fish tacos (they took forever) and then we finally had to go to the hostess stand to ask for our check after waiting a very long time without seeing our server. She was nice with good recommendations but never asked how our food was or why the Waffle was uneaten etc.. The hostess said the manager would address our concerns but no one came and we were sick of waiting in general.

William F.

Yelp
Very good food. Varied menu. Service is always attentive. Pleasing ambience. I will visit this restaurant again soon.

Michelle U.

Yelp
We'd been looking forward to trying Verde's. Hostess didn't smile or say two words. Sat down, waited 12 minutes for any acknowledgment from the many servers. We never even got chips or water. Walked out. I was looking forward to tasting their $18 marg.

Renee S.

Yelp
Poor service and I heard something about rats in the back rooms which makes me question how sanitary this place really is. The food all looks good and I was looking forward to eating but I had to leave due to rude service.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Everything was amazing ! Food, staff and margaritas. Hot sauce was home made. Highly recommend

Tera G.

Yelp
Great Family restaurant with high end Mexican food in a relaxed environment. The corn and lime rice are our favorite sides!

Daniel S.

Yelp
Very family friendly. Plenty of options for kids and lots of outdoor seating with a playground. My daughter is a huge fan of the Shirley Temples. Every dish I've tried has been excellent. The bacon wrapped quail appetizer is amazing. The chicken relleno is my go to now.

Casey M.

Yelp
Let me start by saying we were super excited to try this place, it's been some thing we pass every time we drive to bee cave from dripping Springs. I've been looking for a new Mexican spot but this one didn't really hit the nail on the head. The queso was awesome, the salsa taste great and has a good spice. Everything else after just kind of wasn't satisfying. I didn't mind the jalapeño boats, but everybody else that I was with didn't like them at all. They aren't very spicy... And the waiter did say depending on who is working at the beginning of the day depends on how spicy they are. They should really work on trying to be more consistent with that. One of the things that was ordered isn't attached with photos, because I forgot to take a picture of it... But it was not that great. The chicken enchiladas had a lot of tortillas stacked, and the beans that came with it were cold like the plate had been sitting out with just the beans on it for a while. The beef fajita wasn't horrible, the roasted corn that came with it did not taste like roasted street corn at all. It is a lot of food with that order, so I guess that's a plus. Overall just a deflated balloon experience. May try to go back in a few months... But unlikely. The outdoor seating area is great, and there is a little place scape for kids as well. We sat inside, and that was fine for us! One less thing I would like to add is that the stuff seems to be lacking, one gentleman was the host, and the waiter for all the tables. Then there were some older gentleman that just kind of seemed to have sat around and grudgingly helped if they had to.

Phillip D.

Yelp
They have good food and good service. Sometimes the quality is inconsistent, which is why they do not earn a five star rating.

Jen C.

Yelp
I ordered Verde's for a catered office function, Cody and Alanna did a FANTASTIC job! Above and beyond for sure! Alanna took them time to label the gluten free options while Cody added some squash fajitas for our vegetarians. Everyone enjoyed the beef/chicken/veggie fajitas and queso. The churros were also a hit but who doesn't like churros? Everything was delivered in a neat and easy to use way that made clean up a breeze for me so, win-win! Thanks again for a great lunch! I would definitely order from them again for a catering function. :)

Yelp
Wife got rear ended the other evening. She was fine; we collectively decided a margarita would be a suitable drink after a stressful afternoon. I've dined here once before with some friends. Stopped on evening to meet up with a car buddy to have a beer. This adventure being my second adventure into dining here. Service was provided by Ian. While he was quite friendly, my water glass was empty for some time as was my first margarita. I know see why this place is COMPLETELY packed on most nights when I drive by. Drinks during happy hour are cheap, tall, and delicious. Wife fared well with her selection of a pinot grigio. Guess there was happy hour pricing which we weren't advised of. We started out with the calabacitas cakes and stuffed jalapenos. We both liked the cakes while we felt the stuffed peppers had a bit too much chorizo. We only knew the apps were cheaper when the bill arrived. Chips and salsa was a bit on the salty side. I probably would have stuck with appetizers if I would know of the deal instead of ordering the fish tacos. Menu description was cited "red" fish instead of saying redfish. At $10, I doubt it was the latter. Dish ended up being $13 when you add the fairly tasteless beans and rice. Wife fared well with the veggie fajitas. Her cilantro lime rice was better than mine; her beans were cold. For a place that strives to be considered upscale we left thinking middle of the road. Patio is a win, interior is tastefully decorated, and the drinks as mentioned before are great. Perhaps opening and closing that second location a year or so back took the wind out of Verde's sails. Also miss the token green chips that used to be thrown into the chips.
