Where To Eat Dinner In East London (When You Hate East London) - London - The Infatuation

"You’ve agreed to meet up with an old friend who’s out so far east that you can actually see the North Sea on the map when you Google where they live. As you’re considering whether you really need them in your life, you remember that you can jump on the the District Line and meet them at Verdi’s. It’s a chilled, family-run neighbourhood Italian restaurant in Stepney Green with brilliant food that would pack them in, even if it was in central London. Bread and pasta is made fresh in house every day, and there’s an excellent tiramisu and bolognese on the menu. It’s a low-key move for when you just want good, straightforward food, and there’s a warmth and ambience that Dalston and Hackney would struggle to better. It isn’t trendy, but it will make you happy." - david paw

We visited for dinner on Tuesday, and it was just as fantastic as I remembered from last year, if not even better. The atmosphere and location are incredibly relaxing, set right by the sea with a fantastic view. Their spaghetti bolognese is a classic and absolutely worth trying. I was so impressed by it last time that I went home and tried to recreate the recipe, but nothing comes close. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which adds to the charm. And the ice cream, made fresh on site, is absolutely delicious. I’m so glad they make it in house. I suppose my only complaint was that, while we were eating, it would have been nice for the staff to be a bit more attentive. We had our plates stacked on the table for quite a while, and several staff members walked past without clearing them. It was also a little difficult getting service when we needed salt and pepper.

Took friends from Blackpool here as its quite a swansea feature. Sat inside and ordered off QR code for main meal, I had spaghetti carbonara and garlic bread. It was stunning. Lovely views watching the tide come in. Attentive staff, even the owner walks around talking to people and said hello to us. Seating area outside, the place was packed. Toilets need a bit of attention. Amazing selection of ice cream and desserts. All reasonably priced which was lovely to see. Parking just next door, pay and display. Very impressed.

Went for a early birthday gift since we were out. Brilliant ice creams and absolutely loved it. Yes the price is a bit on the top end, but for what you get, its completely worth it

Wow wow and wow. I absolutely love it here. We travel from Aberdare just to come to this restaurant. The attentionnto detail here is amazing, the food and staff are amazing. The staff are so friendly and welcoming even of our loved furry four legged friends. They have water bowls around outside and even have free water and lemon water for the customers. It is more than worth the trip to come here alone for food. Again thank you for yet another amazing visit. See you next week. 😍

Google
Great food, staff were attentive. Lots to choose from. And good value for money. Only negative is the tables aren't big enough for a group

Google
Delicious icecream but, service wasn't that friendly, didn't even bother to smile at us (not sure if that is just us!) Despite the service the ice cream was fresh as advertised and had an amazing taste. Reducing one star for service, not for food.

Google
Excellent place for an Italian lunch, brunch or coffee. Close to the sea and car parks. It was easy to grab a table by the window and order on the app. Which by the way was extraordinarily easy to use and pay on. Food arrived promptly with drinks beforehand. Polite service. On thing to note is that the atmosphere is quite lively with conversation so it can be a little hard to hear/talk if you’re looking for quieter space. Overall very good.

Google
Delicious food. Wish there were more vegan options though. Especially a salad. But can’t fault their delicious dessert and pizza. Dog friendly. Fast service.

Yelp
An interesting Italian restaurant with good food and a building which is made almost completely out of glass (gifting all patrons with a fantastic view of Mumbles Bay), it's therefore hardly surprising that Verdi's is so popular! Despite there always being a hub of activity going on at this establishment (due to the fact it's always packed), you just can't help feeling chilled out (maybe it's being so close to the sea?). They offer plenty of free newspapers and magazines for you to peruse over whilst waiting for your food, additionally you're made to feel welcome whether you're just having a coffee, ice cream or full blown meal. The food available is generally light (I'd definitely consider this place to be more of a café than a restaurant). The menu offers pizza, small pasta dishes, salads and a variety of Panini's, sandwiches and baguettes (which come with salad and crisps), all of which taste good and are well presented. It is the deserts however which are simply to die for! Sure the ice creams nice, but once you look at some of the cakes under the counter glass it'll be rather hard to resist (just don't think about the calories)! Verdi's doesn't take bookings, and even as early as March it can become very popular on the weekends. Best advice is to come as early as possible, but be prepared for a wait, which I can honestly say is well worth it!

Yelp
Great coffee, great location on the sea front. As we're getting older and I have relatives who find it difficult to get around I find Verdi's is very convenient and easy to access with relatives in wheel chairs. Great to take a coffee, nice cake or a light lunch while walking them along the promenade in a wheel chair.

Yelp
Location, location, location! The food is fine, but the view is bliss! Verdis sits right on the bay in Mumbles. Lots of natural light, Windows, and a large patio overlooking the water. The food consists of sandwiches, pastries, and pasta. It's okay, but nothing special. Who cares! With a view like this, all is good in the universe!!

Yelp
I came here on a sunny day with my friends and it was great to sit outside and enjoy some tea/coffee while looking out on the marina. We didn't try any food, but it looked really good and the beverages were great!

Yelp
Great location on the promenade with great views of the bay from inside and outside the cafe. Food is your average pizza and pasta affair to a reasonable standard. Fast an efficient, choose your table and then queue to order your food. Whether ordering a coffee or lunch, it doesn't take long. Service is of the non hassle variety so it's great to just and relax with a coffee.

Yelp
Both times I have been here, it has been very busy, so I have gone around to the ice cream shop with a few tables outside there to enjoy my coffee. The ice cream shop sells water, filter coffee, and fizzy drinks in addition to the ice cream. I did have the small chocolate sundae after dinner one night and it was nice. I am not a fan of chocolate sprinkles, but everything else was nice. The small sundae has two scoops, one of vanilla and one of chocolate. There are layers of chocolate sauce and chocolate sprinkles. It is great because it is right on the pier so you get a lovely view of the bay and if you are walking along, it is a good place to stop and rest.

Yelp
I love Verdi's. It is an institution and even after all these years the quality is still there. A testament to any place in Mumbles is where the crowds are not on a sunny day but a grey one because it's that good to brave the chill to have it. I've been coming here for over ten years and will continue to do so. In my humble opinion the hazelnut ice cream is the best but if you go for any of the sundaes they are great too.

Yelp
A beautifully located cafe/ice cream parlour/restaurant in Mumbles. It sits near the pier and the glass walls make it wonderfully bright, and afford splendid views over Swansea bay. The menu is a little bit expensive for what it is, but it's alright quality. What you pay for here is the incredible location. There are plenty of tables outside for when the weather is warm, so you can sit in the sun with your coffee and browse the bobbing boats or people watch. Menu is Italian, sandwiches, pizzas and pastries make up the cafe menu. A broader range in the restaurant. This is a gorgeous place to come on a sunny morning to have a latte and a teacake and read a newspaper in the sun.

Yelp
I love Verdi's. The food is lovely and they do the most wonderful salads. My husband loves their pizza. The walks around the restaurant are lovely too as you are right by the sea.

Yelp
Verdi's is alright. The ice-cream is pretty nice (a lot of different flavours), and it's in a great area - especially if you've been for a walk down the mumbles. It's a little bit overrated - and expensive - but always enjoyable none the less.

Yelp
Located on the Quay side with great views across Swansea Bay. Extensive range of excellent pasta dishes but poor pizza plus about 40 different ice creams

Yelp
The location of Verdis is lovely, situated on the edge of the sea with excellent views of the Swansea bay. The building, with glass windows all the way round makes it really easy to look out at the views. The food seems to be good (I have had pasta and a sandwich) and the pastries and ice cream are amazing. You have to queue up to place your order but once you have done this then the service is swift. A downside is that, because the location is so good it can get very busy, and get a bit of a noisy, hectic feel. I enjoyed my visit to Verdis, for the ice cream and the views, but if you want a quiet afternoon coffee then this is not the place to come.

Yelp
Verdi's enjoys a fantastic location at the end of the prom near the pier. There are tables outside with the amazing backdrop of Swansea Bay. It doesn't get much better than sitting sipping coffee on a sunny day. If the outdoor are not your thing you can sit inside this large cafe and enjoy the views through the huge windows. I've only ever had ice cream and coffee here but they do Pizzas and other italian snacks. The coffee is very good as is the ice cream. If it's cold outside a nice hot chocolate and those views is just the thing to perk up a Sunday afternoon.

Yelp
Very popular cafe and gelateria on the promenade with great views of Swansea Bay. The menu consists of sandwiches and foccacia, pizza and pasta. It always has 3 or 4 pasta specials as well. Very busy on a sunny weekend. The food is always freshly made and well presented and the prices are reasonable. The ice cream is also very good, but it's not Joe's!

Yelp
Way too expensive. Left after looking at prices. £30 for family of 4!

Qype User (mumtot…)

Yelp
When I visit Swansea twice a year, Verdi's is always high on the list of priorities. Friendly, beautiful views, lovely drinks and tea cakes, the ice cream desserts look amazing- but i've never had one. It lost a star because I would love to sit outside, but recently it has just become completely inundated with pigeons - yuck- this really puts me off. It's great to have a good long walk/cycle along the front and look forward to Verdi's at the end.

Qype User (ynysma…)

Yelp
Th location of this cafe is superb, you can finish a great walk along the seafront with a nice coffee or an Ice cream. However, while Verdi's does provide decent food I have always thought they are more interested in getting the crowds in and out, before actually providing decent service. Obviously they never have to worry about losing business because of the superb location, and while the service is not great I still go back time and again.

Del E.

Yelp
I've eaten here several times and the food is pretty much standard but to me overpriced for what you receive. You pay for the stunning location more than anything else and ice cream wise Joe's which is a stone's throw away is far better quality. BUT the coffees and the location do make it an enjoyable place to visit every once in a while, it's just not the place I would choose for a meal.

Ian G.

Yelp
The best coffee, ice cream and pasta in Swansea. Ignore the traffic, wandering pedestrians etc in Mumbles, and enjoy a great culinary experience.

Qype User (Cullod…)

Yelp
I like leaving nice reviews, but I nee to be brutally honest about Verdi's. The location is fab as you overlook the bay right across to the university and the marina. The parking is easy and close by although you have to pay for it (not sure if that's Verdis or the Council). Inside it always seems chaotic not sure if you sit down and get served at your table or order on the way inturns out you find a table in the crowded glass conservatory-like building and then go up and order no problem if there's two of you but if you both want to see what's on offer or if there's only one of you, you have to leave you things on the table as people are fighting for a place! The food is expensive for the quality; e.g. pizza is not great for the price. On the upside they serve Joes ice cream which is always great but on a sunny day get one for a fraction of the cost from the ice cream parlour and sit on the beach!
