What a great place! We attended a class here and found the environment and people to be simply awesome. Having Axis Gallery in the building is a bonus. The Members' show alone is worth the trip.

I took a pottery class workshop at the verge as well as walked around the gallery. This is a fantastic place for artists of all ages and for anyone who is curious or interested in learning about art. I have been multiple times and have had great experiences with the staff and teachers who run the workshops. The staff are all very kind, professional, and very nice people. Truly a great place. Definitely coming back again.

A wonderful place to let creative juices flow, even for those of us who are less artistically inclined. They have lots of interesting exhibits, courteous staff and scores of stimulating activities. Highly recommended for all ages!

The Verge is the place to be for those who want to get creative. I'm mostly over for the clay classes but I really enjoy the vibe and art that is all around. Plus, to bring back the clay art is another wonderful thing to do!

Went to an open studio event that required $150 payment to join, the energy in the room was similar to that of a wake, and the food they offered was dismal at best.. The director’s demeanor was even colder than the stale food. This place needs a complete overhaul from the top - down. I’d give a 1/2 star if I could, this place needs some seasoning if you catch my drift. Wondering where the $150 from the over 250+ artists is going…?

I cannot speak about the Verge’s artist residency/studios; I can only shed light on the Clay Lab. Lark, Collin, and Jordan are the most welcoming and kind individuals. I am a relative newbie at clay and they have consistently made me feel welcomed, comfortable, and in a safe space. It is undoubtedly a supportive environment and community; you have beginners (like me), intermediates, and advanced. However, everyone is willing to guide and help each other from how to use a slab roller to which clay best suits your needs to how to make a pinch pot. I have to thank my wonderful friend first and foremost for introducing me to clay as it has changed my life for the better. Lark, Collin, and Jordan are also to be thanked for making it a continual joy, being patient teachers, and simply lovely individuals. I hope I put to rest any doubts you may have had about joining the Clay Lab. It is a challenging and rewarding experience, and a positive and fulfilling constant in these uncertain times.

Not my style of art and my kids 9 and 11 commented that they don't want to come back ever. Modern Art isn't for us. But the people there are the sweetest.

Yelp
I visited the Verge Center for the Arts on Sacramento's free museum day. I had always thought the Verge center offered different types of art and ceramics classes for the community but they also have a few nicely displayed exhibit rooms with 2 and 3 dimensional art on display from several local California artists. My favorite exhibit was that of a large tapestry scroll mounted on the wall depicting the artists happiness sorrow and angst. I love art that makes me think and wonder what the [bleeeep] the artist was thinking when he created it. I stared and pondered then I stared and pondered some more. I took a picture of the giant scroll (attached to this review). And I meandered on through Verge museum in my mind space. The learning classroom was an outstanding walk thru as every wall is adorned with exemplars of student work. There is a small museum store in the front lobby area which offers unique glass Jewelery, 3 dimensional ceramic pieces, fabric totes, artist pencils, acid free sketch books, and several lovely coffee table books. I will return to Verge center as they offer art classes to the community and they have a couple kilns where you can buy kiln time... ‍

Yelp
Wow!!!! I've only been here to see Axis Gallery, I believe that's the name for their gallery. And gone to their open clay studio. I had no idea how big this place was. We happened upon this place on 2nd Saturday, September 14th, 2024. We had no idea how special 2nd Saturday was. Most of the Studios were open and were inviting patrons in to show off their work and talk to you. We met so many enthusiastic artists. I met one artist that uses encaustic to cover her watercolor and oil paintings. She has learned from trial and error that the torch is your friend. I do some Encaustic painting and have enjoyed using my torch versus the heat gun which moves the wax around more as it blows hot air. It's like using a hair dryer on steroids. I was impressed by her work. I loved her watercolor of the girl. It was such a nice portrait. I'm sorry I didn't catch her name or studio number. Parking is street parking. There is plenty of parking on the cross streets on the weekend, just be careful parking in-front of the church. At one time it was only 1 hr parking. It's been a few years when I tried to park there. I recommend you come here on 2nd Saturday, this way you can see both the Axis gallery and all of the open studios. There is just so many studios and so much to see. All different mediums too.

Yelp
Great staff, lots of classes, and great atmosphere. I do their drop in ceramic labs which are crowded but can always find a spot. In the warmer months, they open the patio for extra space. So many talents to watch as well.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Wheel pottery class with very little instruction. A quick demo and students are on their own. Cleanup time everyone lines up in a narrow hallway to cleanup. A huge mess and a tiny sink which appeared to be for hand washing not cleaning thick mud covered pottery wheel parts. The facility is NOT a ceramics studio. It's a big empty room where pottery wheels are brought out for the class and a cart is wheeled out with tools. I do not recommend.

Yelp
Bring a jacket! The thermostat was 60 degrees during my 4 hr class! Other than that the class was awesome!

Yelp
The amount of work that went into this space is insane. The curatorial decisions have been astounding and have featured diverse artists

Yelp
A hidden gem on the Grid. I pass it frequently and didn't even know it was there. Even with the name plastered on the front. We came here because they offered a free clay class/option for kids for Sacramento Museum Day. I was obviously attracted to the 'free' part of the description of the event. So was everyone else participating in the day. There were tons of families here. Luckily, the staff was super sweet and had a great system down. When you walk in you were first greeted by a receptionist who directed you toward the clay event or to the 'viewing room' for lack of a better term, their area where art is on display. They ask for a donation if you venture in there. Since it was really crowded, they took names and phone numbers. Every kid was given approximately 30 minutes to play and finish their clay creation. We added our names to the list and walked to South Side park to play until it was our turn. As returned at just the right time. The kids had a blast, even though there was no real instruction. They had their own set of tools to share and a huge chunk of clay to create with. Once done, they had a section to leave them, as they would put them in the kiln over the next three weeks. You can't complain about waiting three weeks when its free, right? We were also told that the kids can glaze it for an additional $10 in three weeks. I think we'll pass, even if our creation survives the kiln. So thank you, Verge! For putting on an awesome and free event for the kiddos. They had a blast and we were able to create a memory and momento on a random Saturday! I have every inteniton of going back to see what else they offer...

Yelp
We celebrated our New Year's Eve wedding ceremony and reception at Verge Center for the Arts. I would highly recommend this venue for anyone seeking a different, cool, blank canvas for their wedding or special event. PROS: The rental coordinator/manager was very helpful throughout the planning process. She was very prompt in answering my questions, being flexible in the vision for our day, and willing to let us show the space to our other potential vendors in the months leading up to the wedding. The staff that were onsite during the event were very helpful, friendly, and available if we needed their assistance. The Verge has several different spaces available for rent, and we rented each of them (main gallery, classroom, & smaller gallery). Because it is a blank canvas and no shows were installed during our event, we were able to design our decor and bring in furniture and lighting that went with our theme. THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: As mentioned above, the space as we rented it was truly a blank space. We had to rent and bring in all furniture, lighting, music, catering, bar tending, coordinating, etc. This worked for us, but could be a challenge for other people planning events. Also, depending on the time of your event, they may have a concurrent art installation up, and I think you are limited as to what you can do/move when there is a show going on. I highly suggest you consider Verge for your next event!

Yelp
"17th Annual Sacramento Museum Day" *1st museum visit* Out of 25 museums that participated in "17th museum day" we choose 'Verge Center for the Arts' due to low traffic reasons and free admission =D. Actually, 80% of the museums were free today and i guess this museum just sounded cool. My friends and I arrived around 2pm ( A LOT of parking) and were pleasantly surprised in what they had to offer. Supposedly this particular gallery is hailed to be an upscale approach to contemporary art and compared with New York's premium galleries. The gallery consists of: photos, paintings, photo etchings, and a really cool COUCH exhibit. Awesome place to take your kids, friends, and if you're a teacher a potential field trip option.

Yelp
I was able to check out the new Verge space for second Saturday and had a wonderful time. The space is large, and slightly reminded me of the Sacramento Art complex, with several separate areas. The artists they had featured when I was there was very cool, very different, and offered a lot of variety. A little bit of the normal, busy second Saturday path, but a great gallery space to check out.

Yelp
Verge has a very friendly vibe! It offers fun classes and showcases art that is fresh. The Spiritual Healing Art Lab is particularly unique and like no other offered in Northern California.
