"Verlaine, the Modern Mexican restaurant in the former Dominick’s space in West Hollywood, closed abruptly last night after a nearly one year run. Chef Diego Hernandez of Baja California’s Corazon de Tierra conceptualized the place with a market-driven approach to Modern Mexican cuisine." - Matthew Kang

Walked in with friends here recently for dinner and had a lovely evening in their patio area. The food was really good, the cocktails on point (I had the Summer Serenade, which is THE perfect refreshing summer cocktail) and our waitress was charming and attentive during the entirety of our meal. All in all, a very nice evening!

Lovely indoor/outdoor space, fabulous selection of very high quality wine and cocktails. The food mostly hit the spot, particularly the short rib tacos, New York strip steak and lightly grilled oysters. Even the dishes that didn't hit that spot were interesting. Great service.

While the sttaff was okay (although a bit awkward when we were about to pay the bill), the price we paid for the minuscule portions was absurd. The half chicken dish was okay (nothing special about the way it is cooked, not marinated or nothing like that) but definitely not worth 29 dollars, nor did the (two) NY Steak strips for 34 dollars, with barely any sides. The menu extended to two pages of A5, while the wine list felt like half a novel. Super disappointed.

This place was the worst. The food was actually quite decent, but the service and staff was so horrendous I'll never go back. Waited 30 minutes after our reservation time to be seated, took another 20 minutes to get the cocktails we ordered and never saw our waitress again. Had to grab somebody else to finally order. Didn't get or entrees until over 2 hrs after our reservation. Meanwhile the MANAGER sat in the booth next to us and was eating dinner while we were still waiting for our food. After I complained she then came over 8 minutes later and proceeded to tell us how everything was as it should be. So I got to spend 5 minutes watching my fish get cold while I explained to her all of the things that went wrong through the night. Save yourself the frustration. There're much better restaurants in LA

I'm in love!!! I came to Verlaine to see the wonderful things that Chef Diego Hernandez has been doing in LA. I was curious to see how he translated the delectable dishes he serves at Corazon de Tierra in Valle de Guadalupe. Well, I must say that he did not disappoint! Upon walking into Verlaine, I knew we were in for a great night. The art-deco decor and dimly-lit patio dining welcomed us in. The staff is professional, friendly and unpretentious. Jaime, our server, is not only a dead ringer for Dakota Johnson, but so down-to-earth and professional. The bus-people are very cordial and efficient. Cocktails are generously-sized, giving you a great value, unparalleled in an LA chic venue such as this. All dishes were carefully crafted and transported me back to the beautiful wine country in Mexico where I first tasted Chef Diego's dishes. Let me make it a point to talk about the smoked half-chicken dish. Whoa!! I've never had chicken this scrumptious in my life! Crisp and perfectly skin covered the most juiciest and tender meat ever. Oh, and the portion was enough for two of us to share and still have left-overs! Chef Diego brought the perfect amount of Mexican warmth and generosity to a usually "sceney", too school for school (or to even eat) mentality of LA. One more thing, I was told I could personally congratulate Chef Diego. I was led to the new bar/lounge (Wild Beast) they opened on the same property. I felt like I walked into screenplay writer's living room on the eve of prohibition. Just the right mix of booze, interior design and masculinity, with a hint of starlet in the air. I was welcomed right away by the lively and kind bar manager who called out for Chef Diego to greet us. The perfect ending to our nearly three-hour dinner was to thank and congratulate this man and his staff for a job well done. Keep it up, y'all and bravo for bringing some authenticity and downright kindness to LA all while keeping things elegant.

The ceviche was awesome. The bartender was not too cool to be friendly and the mezcal pour was generous. But the cute blond left me hangin.' So 5 stars for this place, but no stars for you, young lady. Boo!

Lovely evening spot for a date. Easy online reservations. Easy valet parking out front. Efficient and cordial staff. Beautiful setting. Delicious food. I've had the oysters a couple times. Great bar.

One of the best ambience as well as entree. The smokey spicy black bean is a MUST! Honestly though, everything we ordered was one better than the one before.
