Celebrate Vermont Summer With the Iconic Maple Creemee Ice Cream Treat | Eater

"This North Ferrisburgh cookie bakery operates a seasonal creemee window (May–October) where vanilla and chocolate are on tap but the coffee-maple twist is the runaway bestseller; creemees can be finished with cookie-crumb topping made from the on-site bakery. Owner Matt Bonoma captures the social role of creemees in the state: "Vermont is such a rural place and everything is spread out and there’s not as many bustling centers of commerce," he says. Bonoma, who sources mix from the nearby creamery, also explains how machine tuning shapes the final product: "You want it soft and almost ready to melt. But too soft and it doesn’t stay on the cone, and you can’t get toppings on it." - Tanner Bowden

Celebrate Vermont Summer With the Iconic Maple Creemee Ice Cream Treat - Eater

"Cookie Love is primarily a cookie bakery, but from May to October its creemee window is a go-to for locals. Vanilla and chocolate are on tap but the coffee-maple twist is far and away the best-seller. Whatever you get, try the cookie crumb topping." - Tanner Bowden

Creemees are delicious! Parking is not great and there were no spots. Nice place to sit out back. Coffee maple creamy was so good.

Ken Baldwin

Google
If you can’t taste the difference between a mediocre creemee and a truly exceptional one, I don’t know what to tell you. VT Cookie Love uses top-tier ingredients, and it shows. Easily the best soft serve in Vermont—100% worth the drive.

James Oxley

Google
First creemee I've ever had. You'll never forget your first. Sucks I got it on my way out of Vermont. Waayyy better than any soft serve or custard in PA.

Super Natural

Little tip: This place gets BUSY. Because it’s really good. The line is supposed to run parallel to the building, not spill out into the parking lot, blocking the only available parking space. They even have plastic barrier posts up to indicate where the line goes. So, if you’re blocking a parking space on a busy night like tonight, and someone asks you nicely to move the line over so they can park, maybe just move over instead of instructing them to park in a prohibited spot across the lot. Annoying, entitled middle aged dude aside, it’s a great spot and they move the line along quick.

Google
It's good and worth a stop if you are craving sweets. I thought the Maple creamie was overpowering. There is no denying that it is made of maple. My partner had hard packed ice cream and that was better than the creamie. The cookies are good. Tried 3 of them. It's not the best creamie in Vermont, and they are not the best cookies, but they are darn good

Google
All around great treats, wheat free options for GF folks, and coffee integrations like the Affagato (Espresso over Soft serve - available in decaf as well!) The young people that work there are patient, very pleasant, and very competent. They are busy all day long and especially in the evenings. The line moves very quickly so you don't have to wait too long for the delicious creations!

Melissa Hiatt

Google
From my child: Their ice cream and cookies are so good! I want to go back the second I leave. My favorite part is that they have so many cookies and ice cream flavors. I love to get a mint chocolate chip "lovewich"!

Amy Johnson

Google
Some of the best creemees in VT! I visited yesterday afternoon and while there was quite a line, the staff works like a well oiled machine and it went very quickly. I got a “small” maple creemee (small is subjective but they understood the assignment) and HOLY COW it was delicious! Well worth the drive and the wait no matter where you’re coming from.

Yelp
Cutest place ever. We saw this while driving and had to stop. To our surprise- they had maple creemee's in early April! We got a maple creemee milkshake and it was delicious. We also got some cookies and they were super yummy. Mostly, the woman who worked there was super nice and made our little stop very worthwhile Fun spot! We went here in a Vermont vlog- Hailey and Kiki on YouTube!

Yelp
Very substantial large ice cream, bigger than others have served me in the city. The flavor here of the maple is the best I've had yet.

Yelp
This place is so dang cute!! Stopped on a whim seeing it driving between Stowe and Lake Placid. I ordered the mother's love, true love, and enduring love, and they were all tasty!! Great consistency with a soft center/crispy edge! Employees were also SO nice! We just grabbed to-go, but there was no wait on a Thursday evening in October!

Yelp
We love Cookie Love!!!! Such amazing creemee's...the maple and coffee are personal favorites. The staff is very friendly as well.

Yelp
Tommie is especially fantastic. The service was fast and efficient, super friendly. My favorite creemee place.

Yelp
Homemade Gourmet Cookies [N Ferrisburgh VT] I saw this cookie shop on the way to the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in VT... we stopped by on our drive back to NY. I bought some cookies for the road... the drive was some two hours back to Albany. We walked up to the first window where we placed our orders. The cookie flavors were written and displayed on a portable folding sign. It was hard to choose... so many yummy flavors! We finally decided on 2 each of the First Love (chocolate chip) and Forbidden Love (with white and chocolate chips). We picked up our order on the next window. The gals were sweet (pun intended). Good service. We love the cookies... soft and not too sweet. Loved the names they chose for their cookies. They all had something to do with "love," Puppy Love - peanut butter chocolate chip Mother's Love - chocolate chip w/ butterscotch Addicted to Love - mocha chocolate chip True Love - oatmeal and dried cranberries Enduring Love - coconut, oatmeal, choc chip, almonds, dried cranberries Also sold are the classics: Snickerdoodles, Sugar Cookies and wheat-free chocolate chip... and ice cream! Yelp
I found this place on the way back from Burlington to the bridge to New York. I had to stop in to have a Vermont creemie. I got coffee & maple syrup twist creemie (soft serve) on a cake cone (wafer cone) and was very content. Loved the fun names they gave to all their toppings .. and cookies. Loved to see they say ice creams were made from happy cows. Next time I will try their cookies. My expectations are high!
google avatar

Yelp
The best creemee in Vermont. The cookies are delicious but the creemee's!! So many flavors of cookies and ice cream.. also they have the most amazing coffee milkshakes with a shot of espresso. Or go classic and have an affogato.
google avatar

Yelp
My first Maple Creemee! Taking a scenic route to Stowe from Burlington, we quickly realized that a lot of what VT has to offer isn't in the guidebooks, but "Hey look at XYZ on the roadside, lets stop there!" And that's exactly how we found Vermont Cookie Love. Vermont Cookie Love is a Walk Up Dessert Stand, where you can buy---big surprise here---cookies and ice cream, or creemees. I chose a Maple Creemee with Rainbow sprinkles, but could easily have chosen cookie crumbles or different sprinkles. Cone, Cup, your choice of vehicle. The creemee was as promised- Creamy! Full of pure (not fake) maple flavor, and an absolute delight to have as my lunch. Whenever you're in Vermont, make sure to stop at those interesting places along the roadside, especially Vermont Cookie Love.

Yelp
The girl working accidentally made an ice cream cone when we asked for it in a cup, preceded to get mad because she messed up our order and sloppily gave me half the size of the large I ordered... why she punished me with less than i ordered for her mistake, I don't know... customer service issues for sure. the creemee was delicious... just wish i would've gotten the amount we paid for.

Yelp
Some of the best cremees near Burlington in my opinion. The coffee maple twist is delicious, and is great if you add cookie crumbles on top. Staff was nice, and the outdoor seating was clean.
google avatar

Rebeka M.

Yelp
Their cookies were so good, but the maple creemee was off the damn chain. I would say this tied for first with Morse Maple Farm as far as creemees were concerned. The maple flavor was very present but not overwhelming and the ice cream was very smooth and creamy. Perfection! The maple iced latte was a banger too. Don't skip out on this place! So glad we passed by on the road and waited for them to open for the day! Well worth it!

Yelp
Visit Date: September 3, 2020 We took a long drive to get to this cookie stand. My hubs picked out cookies for his mom and a half dozen to eat including one of their gluten free options for me. We both grabbed coffee and our son may have had some ice cream but I'm not sure. They have a large variety of cookie options and are a very unique little shop.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Loved our maple creemees (soft serve) and maple walnut hard ice cream. While waiting in line we heard the person behind us say they didn't like the maple ones. Glad we didn't listen. We all loved it. Walk up only and picnic bench seating on the outside.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of cookies. So when I saw this little place on the side of the road, we had to stop! I thought the names of the cookies and the seasonal flavors were cute! They cookies were okay. Weren't there best nor were they they worst. I thought they would have been bigger than what they were. I was happy to eat them though! My husband got a milkshake and was very happy with that!
google avatar

Yelp
Being from California (but living in Boston), we had absolutely no idea what a cremee was. Spoiler alert: it's soft serve! We drove the 20ish minutes from Middlebury to visit this place for dessert and it was so worth it. I ordered a coffee cremee with chocolate sprinkles and my boyfriend ordered a maple cremee, which both were made fresh in Vermont and both of us were very happy with! Our puppy couldn't complain either, as she even got to lick the maple cremee spoon. We grabbed a half dozen cookies to go, which were very soft and decadent. Customer service was kind and the line went very quickly. A must-do for tourists and cremee fans alike.
google avatar

Yelp
Ok at best. Maybe not my taste but no crunch in their cookies. Soft ice cream is better

Yelp
If you love your sweets like I do, you should stop here! We hiked Snake Mountain, so this was our reward! Bought even extra cookies to take home! Several different types to choose from!

Yelp
Cookie Love- Better Cookies, Better Service If I were to compare these cookies to a person it would be Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. These cookies are dedicated to being the best thing you will ever put in your mouth. Just like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, these cookies may seem intimidating due to their perfect exterior, but their melt-in-your mouth interior shows how amazing they are. If I could crush up these cookies and inject them into my veins I would, but then I wouldn't get to taste and feel these splendiferous biscuits in my mouth. Not only are the cookies the best invention since the wheel, but the staff at Cookie Love is outstanding. The grit and high motor of the Cookie Love workers cannot be understated. They are the type of people to be the first ones in and the last ones out.
google avatar

Silvia D.

Yelp
Best ice cream and cookies around! Yum! There is always a line which means it's worth the wait
google avatar

Yelp
The best. Cookies. Anywhere! Summer love I stock up on and bring to every event I can. They are soft, HUGE, and make amazing ice cream sandwiches. Everyone is helpful and pleasant and we love visiting!
google avatar

Yelp
Falllllll in Love cookie with maple walnut ice cream!!! My experience at this lovely little gem was wonderful! Diverse cookie menu, really pleasant staff, and truly delicious cookies and ice cream! I'm so glad that I moved to Vermont and only live 3mi away!!
google avatar

Yelp
Best cookies and milkshakes in town Try the forbidden love cookies or a lovewich (ice cream between two freshly baked in-house cookies).
google avatar

Chris D.

Yelp
Really good cookies. Plus they have phenomenal ice cream and sell their dough. Very nice folks and also have awesome milk shakes.
google avatar

Krysten M.

Yelp
Awesome cookies. The chocolate chip cookie was my favorite. I am an ice cream person but the cookie stole the show. I tried the hard vanilla and my husband went with the vanilla Creamee. I have to admit, he chose the better ice cream. The 10% butterfat is very delicious but also very filling. So choose your size accordingly. The smalls are decent size, ans honestly the larges didnt look that much bigger. We are so happy we got a dozen cookies to bring back to Maine.

Yelp
So... being an out of towner, someone recommended I have a Maple Creemee. Creemees are soft serve ice cream. In this heat wave? Sign me up! Fast forward to driving down Rt 7 and found this spot. They have hard and soft ice cream (from 2 different VT dairies). They make INCREDIBLE cookies - like 10 different kinds on site. I tried the Wheat Free Chocolate Chip (which was killer) and had a Maple/Coffee small twist. Their smalls are huge. Their creemees are delicious and you can make sundaes or ice cream sandwiches with their cookies. My only gripe was the parking... the spots are really small and if someone kind of sucks at parking, it screws up the works... Fun/quick stop. :)

Laurie M.

Yelp
Overpriced unfriendly ‍and their cookie dough was no better than toll House cookie dough that you buy in the store what's the big attraction
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
THIS.. this is the place. If you are ever passing by, you can't pass up an opportunity to stop in for a Creemee's hot fudge sundae with Cookie Love crumbled chocolate chip cookie over top. This is what dreams are made of! My friend introduced me to this gem of a place last year while tagging along on her annual family vacation to Lake Champlain. This year's tag along required multiple stop to ensure I got my fix to last until next year ;). I often find myself thinking of this place late at night

Yelp
This is a tiny little place in the cutest little building that looks like a house! They have both an indoor bakery and a walk up window. I have been here three times already since I arrived in Vermont a week ago! I have sampled ALL of their cookies and the ingredients are clearly quality and very fresh (hence, they are are little more expensive). My favorites are Addicted to Love (Mocha Chocolate Chip), Fall In Love (Pumpkin Chocolate Chip), Summer Love (White Chocolate Chip with Dried Berries), Forbidden Love (triple chocolate chip), and Puppy Love (Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip). The walk up window has Cree Mees which is SUPER soft serve ice cream. They have basic chocolate and Vanilla but also Maple and Coffee. The coffee and maple are delicious! Also, there is Raspberry and Mango sorbet which I found delicious! The service here was great, and I love that they have a compost garbage (which does NOT smell). All of the dairy farms, and creameries where they get their ingredients are listed and I love that its all local farms! I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
What a great find on our recent vacation in Vermont! We quickly became repeat customers, enjoying both their ice cream and cookies! It's a small place, but they've maximized the space and maintain the grounds nicely. Inside, there is the bakery part, where several kinds of cookies are on display and available for purchase, as well as coffee, etc. My grandson tried the chocolate chip - his favorite - and they were pretty amazing! At the window, I tried first a Maple Creemee (It's a Vermont thing) and then a Mango Sorbet. Both were the best I've ever eaten. I can't actually recall what frozen treats my grandson had, but I can assure you it was chocolate and did a fast disappearing act! He asked to return every day of our vacation! If and when we return, Cookie Love will be on our list of places to revisit, that's for sure!! I love the choices of toppings for your ice cream, which include crushed cookies... Brilliant!

Mykala P.

Yelp
Best creamees in Vermont hands down...the maple and coffee twist is the BEST! Such great staff! Always love going to cookie love:)
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Pretty decent cookies and quite tasty. However, I thought they were too small for the price that I paid. Despite that, I would go back! A good cookie on the road is still a good cookie.
google avatar

Haley C.

Yelp
Hands down the best creemees (soft ice cream) in the state of Vermont! Maybe in the history of the world! They use Kindom Creamery as the base so it is local Vermont dairy and with extra creaminess. The maple & coffee twist cannot be missed! And you can either order a cookie on the side or they will put cookie crumbles on top of your ice cream which is the dream. My family drives the 30 plus minutes from Burlington to get here and it's worth it every single time!!!
google avatar

Katie J.

Yelp
When I'm looking for a Maple creemee, I don't want vanilla with a hint of maple; I want MAPLE. Vermont Cookie Love delivers on the MAPLE and has some delicious cookies. Go ahead and try cookie crumbles over your creemee. My other half love the maple/coffee twist and we go out of our way to stop at Vermont Cookie Love on every Vermont trip.
google avatar

DeLuna B.

Yelp
Cute place- great service. We stopped here Memorial Day on our trip back south towards New Jersey/Pennsylvania area. The best maple creemee ever... Cookies were great as well. A special treat for the pup as well... Thanks ( cookie) Love Shack. a little old place where. We can get together (cookie) Love Shack, baby.. a sweet treat
google avatar

Kimberly G.

Yelp
This store was 5 minutes down the road from our Air BnB on a recent trip to Vermont and we ended up going nearly every day. We loved the cookies, but the creemees (soft ice cream) is incredible. They use a higher concentration of fat. They also have delicious chocolate sprinkles and really good milk shakes.
google avatar

Courtney M.

Yelp
Vermont Cookie Love is incredible. So glad I came here by chance passing by. They have the BEST cookies, I got the chocolate butterscotch. You can taste the freshness of ingredients here. They also have ice cream, hard and soft, and the cream is from local creameries. I got a soft maple cremee, it did not disappoint. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I really wish I lived closer to this little gem
google avatar

Rob F.

Yelp
Hands down the best maple creemees (soft serve) in Vermont! Wishing they served them year round! especially on an unusually warm fall day like today!

Narin P.

Yelp
Delicious creemees and cookies, friendly staff, enforces proper social distancing and face mask guidelines. I live too close to this place it's dangerous!!
google avatar

Leslie B.

Yelp
Seriously delish! It's out of our way but surely worth the drive. You won't be disappointed!!!! Service is great too!!!!
google avatar

Charity F.

Yelp
Omg we drive past here quite q bit and I always say we need to stop but never do well glad we did today so delicous!!!!and the staff was super friendly and fast as well
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
OMG. This is what a creemee stand is supposed to be! Imagine soft serve ice cream using high quality ingredients in coffee maple twist flavor!! You cannot imagine how perfect this combo is and when you top the creemee with their homemade cookies ( choice of 6 flavors) crumbled into crumbs, you have an amazing crave-worthy treat that will keep you planning your next trip before you leave the parking lot. Oh, PS, at odd times that have something to do with weekends, they serve grass fed burgers that are excellent. Only problem is timing it because their burger hours make no sense. But YUM!

Megan M.

Yelp
Great cookies year round and awesome ice cream in the summer. They're always busy so try to come with a few minutes to spare.
google avatar

April D.

Yelp
Love, love, love. We were pleasantly surprised to find a new flavor we haven't had before that our local market doesn't sell. The White Chocolate Chip with Berries was just to die for. Well worth the stop!
google avatar

M C.

Yelp
Yeah, they're pretty darn good. I got a triple chocolate, a mocha chip, an oatmeal with a bunch of other stuff in it, and heir summer special, which has white chips, blueberries and strawberries. The triple chocolate was just ok. I couldn't really detect mocha in the mocha chip but it was still very good. The oatmeal was very good. But my favorite was the summer berry. I went back in and bought a roll of dough of that one. So bright and flavorful...and SOFT.

Yelp
I happened to be driving past on Saturday and decided to stop in (it was almost 1 pm and I needed a little something tide me over until I got home). Wow - was I glad I did! Inside this little non-descript building with the cutesy sign on busy route 7 were the most heavenly smells and friendly staff. I ended up getting a variety of cookies to go and spending quite a bit of time talking business with the owner. The cookies, by the way, were just awesome! Soft and chewy and some of them still warm from the oven. Nom nom! The location isn't something you'd necessarily go out of your way to get to but if you happen to be see it while on your way down Rte. 7, be sure to stop by and support this wonderful local business!

Kristin K.

Yelp
Simply the best creemees and fresh baked cookies because they don't skimp on quality. Be sure to get the blueberry white chocolate chip cookie which was the best of the 6 we tried. Normally, chocolate chip would win.
google avatar

Heidi C.

Yelp
Cookie Love's cookies are yummy, soft and rich. Cookie Love is a little shop located between Burlington and Vergennes. A sort of nowhere location really. Not where one might expect a booming cookie business would be located. The first time I tried their cookies at the shop I wasn't really impressed. They had a small selection of traditional flavors, none of which contained nuts. Historically, my favorite chocolate chip cookies have nuts in them. I'm not sure if they changed their recipe to taste more rich and indulgent (I remember things being quite sugary) or if my opinion just changed, because now I love their chocolate chip cookie and a few other flavors. I still wish they had nut options, but if I'm craving a cookie, Cookie Love is most likely where I will go, or I will seek out their cookies in one of the few retail locations where they sell in Burlington, like Muddy Waters café and the City Market Coop. One of the really nice things about this cookie company is that they sell their dough frozen, so you can buy it and know that the cookies you are making will taste the same as the cookies you buy at their store. It also allows local places to make their cookies and sell them fresh so they don't have an old, stale taste. The City Market sells a pretty large variety of local baked goods in its bakery section, the problem is that most of the local cookies, etc. I've bought there all taste stale and not great. It's possible the items would taste delicious fresh out of the oven, but after a few days most everything doesn't taste great. Now when I go to City Market and I'm craving a sweet baked good I will only buy Vermont Cookie Love cookies since I've pretty much tried everything else and know that the alternatives taste pretty terrible. The Cookie Love cookies always taste fresh. Probably because they are. And that's a great thing.
google avatar

Diane C.

Yelp
Amazingly tasty cookies! I indulged in Summer Love, a cookie with blueberries and white chocolate -A Mazing! Plus they sell creamies! For the past few months I've greatly reduced my sugar intake so the cookie was a big splurge, and I relished every bite.
