I've probably been to Cafe Verona 20 times, since I discovered the place after moving to Apopka. My last experience wasn't great, but I decided to give it another try. Tonight my only disappointment was that I hadn't been back in such a long time.
We were greeted quickly after sitting down. The inside is a little on the drab side, but I assume that most of their business is carry-out anyhow.
My wife and I decided to order the ceasar salad to share as an appetizer. We gobbled it down. It was large enough to share, for sure. The lettuce to dressing ratio was good, and the little croutons reminded me of being a kid. Good salad.
For dinner, I tried the Verona Crisp. It's a thin-crust pizza with two toppings (I choose meatballs and onions), cheese, and a balsamic drizzle. Sweet and savory on a crisp crust. Tasty and satisfying. For under $9, the size was great too, as I have leftovers fir tomorrow.
My wife, who isn't much of a foodie, ordered the small stromboli with sausage. I could argue that she had a calzone, hold the ricotta, but it's semantics. She enjoyed it. She is looking forward to her leftovers tomorrow, and she only finished half!
I cannot call Verona the finest local pizzeria in town (Apopka has many, and most have their merits) but the food is solid, and not pricey. I'd recommend my meal tonight. The restaurant is a little dilapidated, so carry out might be preferable, but give them a try. I will certainly be back.
