Good atmosphere and good service. It was a good stop after hiking in the area. They had a few vegetarian options which was nice. We ordered the breakfast burrito with no meat- it was ok- but I wonder if most of the spices is in the meat. Our burrito lacked salt or spices of any kind. Would stop there again and try the vegetarian burrito next!

The BEST tamales I've ever eaten! Great good, the chips and salsa were great, the beans and rice side dishes were good and the tamales were amazing 😍. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant! 💗

I had the breakfast burrito w/chorizo and potatoes. I also tried the horchta (yum!) The burrito was tops. The chorizo was tender and seasoned to perfection. The potatoes were awesome too. Chips were freshly made and the salsa was rich in tomato flavor. The staff was friendly and helpful. A gem off the 79. Thank you 🌯

Great smiles, friendly service, enjoyable time. Food took a bit of time to come out but it always came out hot ready and fresh. Came back for more, tacos were awesome, top 4 for me. Veronica's smile does wonders and greetings make this place feel very welcoming.

This is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE💕 Veronica is so sweet and just so nice to everyone! The food is the best Mexican food I've had in San Diego. They had a vegan burrito that was delicious. Everything was hand made and you could tell. If you go to three sisters falls stop here after for lunch! Includes a patio

5 stars and 5 stars only. Veronica's refried beans r top 3 in all of SD county. Topped with shredded cheddar and mexican cotija cheese. Getting a large tub of this for home will satisfy any craving.

This is an awesome Mexican restaurant in the mountains. The food is amazing and the location is pretty cool too. Very comfortable. I will be back. I had the Chicken Adobo Burrito and Meatball Soup - each was really delicious.

We eat here several times a week, and Veronica and her staff are always kind and welcoming. The prices are great, and the food is delicious. We've tried so many items on their menu, and nothing has disappointed us yet. If you didn't know, they have tasty breakfast sandwiches at a great price. My husband loves grabbing one before work almost every day! We also love their burritos, tacos, enchiladas, and even their burgers and fries.

Ok so I found this place by accident on Yelp, we went because the reviews, and it DID NOT Disappoint. This is off the beating path but very much so worth it. This seems to be a small family run business that has you order at the counter then they bring it to your table so not full service. There is not a ton of room inside but the tables rotate pretty fast. We come from a town where the Mexican food is in abundance and you have many options but this place blew any of those out of the water. Everything was soooo good! The rice was perfect and not dry. The green sauce on the enchiladas was phenomenal, and the California burrito was just as good. If we drive back through we would make the detour to go back.

Veronica and her family have a great thing going here. Small local spot serving up great food and service with a smile. This family run joint is a place has the locals support and plenty of regulars. You can tell that she takes care of them, matter of fact, they tell you she takes care of them lol. I've tried something different every time I'm come in and haven't been disappointed yet! Def a spot you gotta swing by and try

Food is really,really good very authentic is family own super clean prices are great I usually get the burritos and my partner gets the burger with onion rings. They are always super polite and friendly they take debit cards there's parking .

This place is a must whenever we're in town. My partner and wanted to come back here. Since the last time we dropped by here, customer service was impeccable. The owner was so lovely and helpful. We ordered another special custom made burrito and also their quesadilla. You can't beat their prices. The portion you get for the price is truly remarkable, esp in this economy. We were so delighted with the food. Everything tasted great, came out fresh and hot. Most importantly, the customer service was on point and the two lovely young ladies were SO NICE and friendly. They gave us everything we needed! They checked on us a few times as well. Comforting food, and definitely a hidden gem. Cozy little place to have a nice lunch. They're always so nice here and the food taste great! Unbeatable prices. You won't be disappointed. Come to Veronica's! 10/10! :)

Buenolos, like a banana split, but on churro puffs. Yummy way to wrap up a meal. Shrimp tacos, still epic.

Great Mexican food on the way to three sisters! Salsa was excellent and burritos were huge. We also got the carnitas plate that was really good. Food was inexpensive and service was fantastic. I've been going to Veronica's Kitchen for years! My first experience there, I ordered a Mushroom Swiss Burger and it was awesome. I've had the Carnitas plate, with tender chunks of succulent pork in a zesty salsa Verde, rice and beans. again, awesome! My favorite though is the huge Carne Asada Burrito. The meat is full of flavor and melts in your mouth. I ask to add sour cream to mine and it's mind blowing! Everyone I know who has eaten at Veronica's, say they love it and always leave full. Also, everyone who works there are super friendly!

We stopped by there on Sunday 2pm on the way to mountain retreat in Julian. Most of the tables were seated by customers and was busy there! We ordered lengua burrito and Sunday special brria. Burrito has sooo much meat inside and was heady! And burria soup also was big portion with meat and made us so happy. Veronica was running kitchen and preparing food for many customers and I really liked her kitchen. Also tortilla was homemade and was so good. I never thought I can eat such tasty Mexican food in the middle of the mountain and will want to come back if I ever go back to that area.

Was going out to visit a friend and passed this place. We stopped there on the way back to check it out , and glad we did. It serves American & Mexican food. I had the chorzo & eggs w/ beans plate with a flour tortilla . Best I ever had anywhere - Period ! My lady had the Tejeda Burro and could not finish it ( We used it for a late dinner later ) and it was the bomb. The homemade salsa is a lose your mind kind . Ice cold beer & strong coffee. Yes , it's a little bit out of the way ( 24680 Viejas Grade ) Exit # 40 , Hwy 70 N. Japutal Vally Rd. off the I-8. It's a country setting , nothing fancy.

If you are out east past Alpine, the pazole was fire!!! Love it 5 stars recommended .

So glad we have access to some decent Mexican food in the backcountry. Fair prices compared to Julian. The food is hearty and hits the spot. Staff is always warm and welcoming.

A little hole in the wall restaurant at the corner. Love the chips they give us while waiting for the food. The food is delicious to eat after our 3 sisters waterfall trail hike. I would rather go to this restaurant than that overpriced restaurant at Lake Cuyamaca that has garbage plates. My favorites are all the breakfast plates. Lots of gringos favorite place to eat at. They're always super busy with all their phone orders. The seating area is small, and there's one tiny outdoor section, too.

Delicious food! The moment I walked in the door the smell opened my appetite . I ordered the huevos rancheros and my husband ordered quesadillas. Everything tasted so good and the food was so fresh. Even the chips and salsa were really good. I also ordered Jamaica and it was one the best I ever had, usually in other places it is so watered down. The service was prompt and kind. It is small and cozy. Thank you for your good food. Highly recommend you try it.

I've been coming here for years... basically since it opened and it never fails to disappoint. I usually get breakfast burritos because they're delicious but all of their food is great. Just a simple deli/kitchen but absolutely worth stopping by

All the way in the cut. I found this place camping near by a year ago and it was amazing. If you are ever in the area or heading to julian, swing by this place for the best chilaquiles. They are amazing as well as the lovely people taking the orders and working there. Last time I was lucky enough to see them cooking on their massive grill outdoors as well. Thank you guys again!

Food was decent, nothing crazy. Wish they had more beer options and ran air conditioning. It gets pretty hot with the door open and the grill running. But overall the service was good

Hubby mentioned how amazing Veronica's Kitchen is, from service, hospitality, and food quality... I figured it'd be a great opportunity to check it out & invite my girls on a Sunday breakfast motorcycle ride out to Descanso. Seating is quaint, with a handful of 2 top booths... and only one large booth that can seat up 5 people comfortably on the bench and has 2 chairs also. While we placed our orders, chips and salsa are offered, and the tortilla chips are freshly ( is this even a word?!) fried. A quick glance at the salsa looks like it'd taste bland, but there is kick to it! You can tell how the local community just adores the owner. Most patrons that walk in greet her with, "Good morning, Mama!" or " Hey, Mama!!" And the sentiment is always returned back. I went for a small bowl of menudo, a side of bacon, & 2 crispy shredded beef tacos. For such a small bowl- the broth was full of flavor and tons of tripe & hominy. The bacon was super crispy & delicious. And next time I'm ordering sour cream with my tacos.

If you happen to find yourself in Descanso, this is the best restaurant in town. Although small, the chef prepared me a delicious order of super nachos. It was loaded with ample nacho cheese, shredded beef, jalapeno and chips. It hit the spot and I was full when I finished. I appreciated that the waiter checked in with me several times as well. I may just drive out of my way again to eat here.

This is one of our favorite local places for burritos. The burritos are so good. We rarely venture into the rest of the menu, but when we do, it is also fresh and delicious. My husband absolutely loves the margaritas here.

This place is a gem to the Descanso community. Great value, great food, great service. Veronica and her family have been running this place for over a decade and it beats some of the hype joints back in the city of SD. The Chile relent burrito is amazing. Love this place.

I can't believe Vicki B and I went to the same restaurant! When I have been to Veronica's the place is spotless, the food is great, and everyone is courteous even when they are slammed. And they do get slammed! Road crews, SDG&E, the sheriff's dept, highway patrol and anyone else in the area who didn't bring their lunch call for take-out at lunch time, at the same time. I try not to go at lunch, but if it's busy I usually go up to the register to order then wait for my food on the patio. I think I have seen service dogs out there. The smoker out there is a beauty. If you're lucky they'll be smoking ribs or grilling carne asada. I never get that, or the homemade soup, or the american food or the daily specials. Unless Veronica is making tortas, I get pollo asado. I used to get the Dale burrito with fish and cabbage and bacon. Then I tried the succulent, flavorful, moist, tender chicken breast wrapped up with fresh quacamole. I put salsa on it, but it is gilding the lily. Early in the day I might get a breakfast burrito with beans, eggs and bacon, I guess, sometimes with a side of pico de gallo. But I am in it for the pdg. Veronica's is a Mexican restaurant; everyone who works there seems to speak Spanish as well as English. It is also a family restaurant, and you may be waited on by one of her great children. Veronica has a big family, which she defines loosely, I think. The place is the hub of this rural town. I'm Anglo and I never felt excluded or less than. The menu is on the wall for convenience and on regular printed folders. I always pay and tip when I have eaten. Don't forget to tip!

Was in the area on a recent Saturday and stopped by on a whim for lunch. My hubby & I were hungry as we looked at the extensive menu. Specials are also written on a board hanging on the wall. We chose to sit inside in a comfortable booth. Outside seating is available as well. The service was excellent. My hubby ordered the Chilaquiles, which he said were just okay. I ordered the Tedeja Burrito. It had plentiful, perfectly cooked shrimp, with bacon, rice, & cheese. It was delicious! We are looking forward to returning to Veronica's soon.

This is a must try. Everything about this spot is too notch. The interior is spotless, the service extremely friendly, and the food is the best I have had in East County. Take a little ride to one exit past Alpine stop in. You will love it.

I've been a customer of Veronica's Kitchen since they opened. I have seen this restaurant evolve over time; some good and some not so good. I really enjoy the service from the owners. I have mixed feelings about the food. The food is great but the portions have gone down while the prices have gone up so it saddens me to say that I am not 100% on board with the changes. I would like to see more specials with larger portions. I would also like to see freshly made crispy taco shells as opposed to pre-made taco shells. The outdoor barbecue beef is wonderful as well as the soups. The home made salsa and freshly made chips are a hit too. I realize that I can go anywhere but I still want to continue to patronize Veronica's, a local family-owned business. I am in 100% support of the owners and continue to wish them success..

Well worth it, great food great service with a smile and an awesome michelada. We live in the community, but it's we'll worth the drive to visit. Great birria, unique burritos, tacos and plates and breakfast lunch and dinner service.

The best Mexican food we've had in years! Fast service, and so friendly. I had the chicken enchiladas and they were fresh with real hand cut chicken and home made tortillas. Excellent!

We come from about 30 minutes away, but still manage to make it here at least twice a week, sometimes more. We always dine in, and although the service can be a little slow, we always get friendly service and good food. I can tell you all the things we ordered and our rating: Carne Asada Burrito 5/5 Juicy, Flavorful, Portion decent. Get the beans on the side Carne Asada Plate 4.5/5 Very good, especially if you get it as a Thursday special price of $6.99. Sometimes a little small, but a good value on special. Beef Rolled Tacos 3.5/5 Crispy outside, juicy inside. Recommend American style Guacamole with sour cream and gauc mixed. Shredded Beef Taco 4/5 Nice and greasy crisp shell, plenty of meat, great hangover remedy Chile Relleno Burrito 4/5 Good breading on the chile, flavor excellent, a little on the small side, but otherwise excellent Dale/Fish Burrito 2.5/5 Decent, though the fish could be crispier and not as fishy tasting Tejeda/Shrimp Burrito 4/5 Very solid shrimp burrito with bacon Empanisado/Fried Shrimp Burrito 3.5/5 Very solid fried shrimp burrito, but doesn't work as well as the regular shrimp burrito Hot Carrots 1/5 A laughably small portion for $2!!! Don't order these, even though they taste good. Most places give you 3 times the portion for half the price.

Happy place with great food cooked fresh. Call ahead to avoid the wait! We are local and order here frequently.
