Went to Vertical Detroit for dinner with a friend and it was fantastic! The food, service and atmosphere were outstanding and it was a most enjoyable dining experience. Moreover, if one is a wine lover, this is the BEST place to go in all of Detroit. They carry thousands of variations of wine and the staff is knowledgeable about them all! I highly recommend a visit to Vertical Detroit after a concert, sporting event or just for a nice meal and wine! Many thanks to the great staff and we'll be back soon!

I walked into this establishment and everyone was really polite! I was immediately seated. Service was good! The food wasn’t my cup of tea. Ordered carrots, octopus, focaccia (house made special-garlic and Parmesan), and salmon in a mushroom/bok choy broth. The focaccia was good! The octopus was super thin, I’m guessing for the aesthetics, and unexpectedly served cold. I did not eat it because it smelled really fishy. The salmon was over cooked, and the broth was not warm at all.

This is one of the best places in Detroit! The inside is so cute, everything is recycled and this a story behind everything. They even play old movies in the back bar! Jimmy & Remy the owners were so nice! The food & wine was spectacular!! Oh and the crème brûlée 🍮 is fantastic!!

I am glad we came here out of all other places. Everything had unique flavors and was delicious. And put waiter Aisha was best and took really good care of us. Especially loved it, when she brought different shape wine glasses based on what I have ordered, to enjoy the flavor and aroma of the wine. Great experience. Thank you!

Vertical Detroit is a wonderful spot and the perfect place for anyone who loves a cozy, intimate dining experience. My sister, who’s a big fan of the restaurant, brought us here, and it quickly became a favorite of mine as well. The atmosphere feels like a classic, old-school Detroit steakhouse—quaint, warm, and inviting. The food did not disappoint. We enjoyed perfectly cooked steaks, a rich and flavorful mushroom risotto, and an excellent selection of wine to complement the meal. The service was top-notch—attentive, friendly, and professional, making the evening even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a small, charming spot with great food and a classic Detroit vibe, Vertical is a must-visit for any steak lover. It’s the kind of place where you can relax and truly enjoy the experience.

The ambiance of Vertical gets you right as you enter the restaurant. Our dining was amongst wine bottles. It was intimate and cozy. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. Our meals were excellent! Our party of four agreed we need to come back!

Google
Great place with great drinks. I would absolutely go back. I wish there was a way to give 4.5 stars. I only give 5 stars to 1 or 2 places in a year.

Google
This little place looks like it's straight out of a movie. It's fine dining in a wine cellar. The place was cozy, but there was room for groups and couples. The food was amazing, and the portions were good. The decor was also amazing, I couldn't stop looking around. The waitstaff were very attentive and on point. Everything about this place was great.

Yelp
A group of 5 of us came for a birthday celebration, and it is the perfect place for that. Service and wine selection are excellent, food was delicious, ambiance was cozy and tucked away downtown. A bit pricey, but worth the cost for such a sumptuous experience. A restaurant for someone who knows fine dining and eats well. I loved the sparkling rose I had, and the champagne was lovely. We ordered a few things to share - octopus carpaccio, tagliatelle pasta with lamb, scallops, double pork chop, tomahawk steak and sides of whipped potatoes and grits. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly - my personal absolute favorites were the pasta, scallops and the pork chop. The pasta was so flavorful with the braised lamb, the scallop was melt-in-your-mouth and buttery, and the pork chop was charred and juicy and cooked to perfection. The octopus was so tender and tangy with the sauce, the tomahawk steak was huge and cut nicely for us to share - decadent and delicious. The potatoes and grits were both so creamy and buttery - but almost too similar. I think we will order the green veg next time. I'm pretty sure we had dessert, but I can't seem to remember it - perhaps too much champagne! And I think I only had a bite. This is a lovely place to have dinner - fairly quiet and romantic, it would make a very nice date night. The bathroom is even luxurious. There is a paid lot right behind it, which was inexpensive and convenient. We will most definitely return.

Yelp
Went here last night, big mistake. Slow/poor service and very unaccommodating. Took one full HOUR to order our main entrees. 1. We ordered their $150 NY strip special (very good) and wanted 4 seared scallops on the side. (Scallops were offered a'la carte on the menu for $10 each). Server comes back and says "sorry we can't do the scallops, we're out. We do have two of the scallop entrees left though. You can order those." What?! How does this make sense? Refused us ordering $40 seared scallops but gave us the option to order the $48 entree that we didn't like the preparation on. 2. Ordered the housemade focaccia, came out cold in the center. 3. Ordered carrots with our steak, those never came out. I asked the server, she did not put them in so we chose to cancel those. Come to think of it, I am not even sure those were taken off of our check. 4. My stepson is 11. We asked to do their Tagliatelle pasta in marinara for him. They said no, we can do it with butter but it will still be $26. We didn't have a choice so we ordered him that. Pasta came out in a portion that was about palm size. If you're going to charge me $26 for pasta with butter, you can do a little better than this. The only pros to this restaurant: a good vibe (albeit a bit loud) and a great wine list. We ordered a nice bottle from Favia that was fantastic. For only 4 adults spending $750, I'd expect much more out of this restaurant. Would definitely not return.

Yelp
Have to give charge card to hold a table . When I walked in the hostess warned that we had a two hour time slot. So right off the bat, the pressure of a time clock starts. When she sat me down., I told her we have only two people rather than 3. Now our timing is 1 1/2 hours. The waiter was too attentive. He obviously needed to make sure the 1 1/2 hour was going to work. It was aggravating to us because we weren't ready to order. So we felt rushed. Atmosphere is so cool! Had the octopus appetizer. Very expensive and dainty. Well done. Tasted excellent. I had pasta with lamb and pesto and my friend had lamb. Both were excellent. We had after dinner drinks at the bar because we had to be removed from our table within the 1 1/2 hours. So in conclusion I give it 5 stars for food and atmosphere but it very expensive and you are timed.

Yelp
Came here alone on a Tuesday night. Sat at the bar inside. It's empty inside. Outside is packed. Has Paris vibes, the outside sitting. I remembered the waiter from last time. He was friendly and helpful today. I let him know I wanted a pasta to go. An app. And a glass of rose. He helped me pick a nice wine and it's lovely. The bar back helped me right away. Normally when I visit I am with friends, this is my first silo trip. I really had a nice time food is great. Total Bill was about 100 dollars this place is pricing. Some of the photos are when I visited with a friend! Parking is street or the lot.
google avatar

Shawn S.

Yelp
I liked the taste of my glass of rose wine but the service not so much. I was not greeted before I entered the restaurant by the hostess. I sat myself and waited for service and about 10 minutes later staff recognized me to place an order. I keep trying with this place but I'm not pleased with this visit. It has potential and maybe because downtown Detroit was quite busy but where are the accommodations? Or recognition that this is NOT common behavior?!?

Yelp
Holy by-the-glass wine list, Batman! Seriously, easily the best BTG menu I've seen in town, and the sommelier (I hate that I can't remember her name) was super helpful and friendly, and totally allowed me to indulge in my wine neediness. In addition to several yummy BTG selections (some Champagne, a nice Tokaji for dessert, etc.), my group also got a bottle of Cremant Rosé to split for dinner, which was lovely. The food was very good. We split the focaccia and fried plantains, and I had the filet as my entree -- all were well-prepared and delicious. The place itself is super cool -- almost feels like someone's fancy home wine cellar/basement bar, which I dig. Definitely coming back for both food and drinks.

Yelp
The highlight of this restaurant was the amazing service that we received today. I ordered the watermelon salad and the lamb strip. The salad was amazing and refreshing. The lamb was overcook, but I love the carrots that it was served with. I also ordered a glass of Opus One and Caymus Cabernet-highly recommend both --smooth and full body wines. We sat outside, which was a total vibe. The weather was nice, the food was amazing, and the wine was on point.

Yelp
We come back here every chance we get when in downtown Detroit. I had the RHOD cocktail and my wife had a Dirty Martini. Yummy yummy We started with the Mussels and the 'Selection of 5' Charcuterie board. Oh my my!!!! Our entree was another appetizer - will added a Scallops!!! Please find a way to go here - THD place is OMG amazing.

Yelp
Great ambiance, speak easy vibes. It smelled so good in there (i think it was the candles in the bathrooms string fruity smell). We had a table all the way in the back by the bar and the projected movie (which was a little odd, just a random old movie playing, no sound or caption) server was great. Food was decent. The focaccia bread and the short rib were my faves (didn't like the slaw on top). Bathrooms were nice and clean. My drink was ver good, i can't remember what it was called but it had grapefruit tequila and jalapeño)

Yelp
Great location. Walking distance from the Detroit Opera House, Comerica Park, Grand Cirrus Park, and more. I can't believe we didn't find it sooner! It's located behind the parking lot to the right of the Opera House. Great space with inside tables, bar seating, and a patio that is dog friendly! We sat at the bar before heading to a Tigers game. Bonus. We got there at 5:30pm on a Wednesday and it was happy hour! We tried a lot of great dishes! We started off with the happy hour rose and cocktail of the day for drinks. For appetizers, we got a lot to snack on - smoked trout toast, mussels, and cauliflower. The flavors were on point! I would recommend all three! We dinner with split the salmon and ordered the octopus carpaccio. The salmon and the octopus were okay. The carpaccio had a texture that I couldn't get past. If you're an octopus lover, this might be your jam. I prefer my octopus cooked, but glad I tried it. We had no room for dessert, but it gives us an opportunity to come back. Our bartender was amazing! So was the rest of the staff. Everyone was so friendly. I would come back for the kindness of the people!

Yelp
We went here for dinner before a DSO concert, and the food and service were spectacular! Ayesha didn't steer us wrong on the following deliciousness: PEAR AND BLUE CHEESE SALAD Frisée / Compressed Pears / Pointe Reyes Blue Cheese Crispy Prosciutto MUSHROOM RISOTTO Wild Mushroom / Caramelized Onion / Parmesan WOLVERINE LAMB STRIP Harissa / Heirloom Carrots / Tahini Yogurt / Chickpeas SAUTÉED SPINACH WHITE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE PARFAIT Berries / Pistachio I loved that we had a quiet spot to eat and didn't feel rushed to get to the DSO. Note that parking is a problem if it's a game day (which it was) as there is no valet. Other than that, I really enjoyed my dinner. I will be back!!
google avatar

Angela D.

Yelp
Everything was spectacular! Service was helpful and friendly, and our food was fresh, seasoned to perfection, and was brought out in the most timely fashion! The decor inside is cozy, warm, and makes you want to stay!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is on a vertical slope...downward! Food was not good! The pork chop, which was recommended by staff, was supremely salty; inedible. I also did not care for the pretentious clown in the suit who was buzzing around the restaurant from table to table. I guess it is a sign that this was the only restaurant with openings the night before....
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING!!!! The service is excellent and the ambiance is relaxing! Treat yourself and bring a loved one for an elegant evening.

Yelp
Loved this place so much! We went here Saturday night. The food was absolutely perfect. Our waiter, Jamie, went above and beyond to make our experience exceptional. He remembered requests we gave him at the beginning of the meal and implemented them throughout the dinner. He had great knowledge of the menu and was professional, honest, and personable. This kind of thing really elevates an experience! To eat, we ordered the trout toast. One of us was apprehensive at first (not a fish eater) but was pleasantly surprised to find the appetizer was not fishy at all. It was creamy, delicious, and had a nice tart bite with the mustard and radish. The carrots were perfectly flavored with the harissa and yogurt. For entrees, we had the braised short rib and the filet mignon. I had the ribs and they were amazing! Tender and juicy meat with a lovely accoutrement on the side. I did not try the filet myself but was told it was amazing. We also had the donut and panna cotta for dessert. The perfect finish to an awesome experience. We will be back!

Yelp
There are cheaper places to get a burger and fries in the city. At $26, it's a bit steeper than Mickey D's. But, it might just be the best burger and fries you've ever had. And, the burger is MASSIVE. Vertical knows this, so they cut it in half. Each half is the size of a mortal burger. The beef is *perfect*, and it really doesn't need all the extra stuff they pile on top. It's messy and it's beautiful. The fries had a nice *crack* with every bite. You might want to jam them down your throat, but take your time to enjoy them. They're that good. Vertical is also happy to split salads (at least, they did for us). The mixed greens are not so massive, but the half portion was just right. This is partly because of the pace of service. It's not slow, per se, but don't come here if you need to be somewhere. You have just the right amount of time to enjoy your first course before the next one arrives. We started with the fried Brussels sprouts, which were covered with queso fresco. The cilantro blended into it was a nice surprise. If you like balsamic vinegar with your Brussels sprouts, you're out of luck, but it's pretty great as-is. The type of focaccia bread rotates periodically, and we got a robust bread with tomato and garlic. Very nice with or without the butter. The service was flawless, and I loved the slower pace. Dinner doesn't need to be a race to hurry up and get to the next thing in your life. While prices are steep, portions are substantial, and the experience is well worth the price. I'm not sure why it's called "Vertical", though. The restaurant is on a single level, and decidedly horizontal. It's small, so make sure to Open Table your way here some time.

Yelp
We came here for my 62nd birthday and were joined by my son and his girlfriend. It was the night of the Taylor Swift concert (6-9-2023) so the city was alive! All the food was delicious and the service was excellent. I had made a reservation online and noted that I use a wheelchair. The reservation was confirmed but I was told upon arrival that Vertical indoor dining is inaccessible. Wish I had known beforehand. We ate outside in very pleasant weather , so luckily, it turned out fine.

Yelp
My husband and I went here without a reservation on a tip from yelp that said "best steakhouse in Detroit". Between the beautiful architecture of the building (previous opulent hotel turned apartments) and the swanky decor we felt like we were stepping into a speakeasy as they escorted us down the stairs into the restaurant of closely placed tables. I image the loud noise level is also reminiscent of a speakeasy. Waitstaff was very knowledgeable about menu and happy to answer food restrictions questions or offer suggestions for drink pairings. My husband started with an old fashioned but i recommended the Karl part and parcel cocktail. I haven't had anything like it before. It's the perfect blend of vodka, fruit and cinnamon. By the time our food arrived we were starving. Our meal began with the pear and blue cheese salad and moved on to the mushroom risotto, wolverines lamb strip (that comes with roasted carrots) and sautéed spinach. Everything was so good It was well worth the wait. I even dreamed about the food that night!

Yelp

Yelp
My son and I had an absolutely amazing experience at Vertical. The service was second to none. The food was absolutely perfect (filet and scallops). The atmosphere was delightful.

Yelp
Fantastic Wine Bar! Had an amazing experience @verticledetroit. Our group loved EVERYTHING about our experience. Our list of what we loved: Our wine! Our waitress Theresa (she was awesome!) recommended a bottle of Roberts & Rogers cab (Napa); it was an excellent bottle ($100). To say the wine list is extensive is an understatement! The foccia bread! Warm, dense & served with amazing chive butter. Couldn't get enough! Fried brussel sprouts with queso fresco, lime & arbol chili - they melted in your mouth Pork belly - pickled red onion, Romesco sauce, chimichurri Short ribs - glazed in soy, served with sticky rice & charred broccolini - what a burst of flavor! Double bone pork chop - this was a monster & it was delicious! Served with grits & spicy greens. Get ready to have leftovers! Verticle burger served with thick bacon, lettuce, tomato, smoked Gouda & Verticle sauce. Lucious! Artic char (daily fish) - light & delicious! Very cool atmosphere. We loved Theresa. She knows her stuff & took great care of us. The manager was also great & he did a nice job of checking in on us. Absolutely cannot wait to return!

Diane L.

Yelp
Four of us went for dinner on the Saturday night just before the Lion's final game. We lucked out and got to see the drone show as we were walking to the restaurant. We had the best server (tall guy). We took his lead on everything and had a FANTASTIC meal along w/wine pairings at each course. His timing was impeccable. The food was OUTSTANDING. The website says you have a 90 minute window but we were there for 3 hours! The vibe is a bit like NYC. Great. This experience was a much higher caliber than NYC restaurants I'd recently visited. Detroit is definitely the place for high end food and service. We will be back.

Laura C.

Yelp
Came here with some friends on a Friday night before the Matt Rife show. Service was excellent - our waiter Jay was funny and attentive. Food was amazing. Ambience was great as well. Overall would recommend and come again!
google avatar

Yelp
My partner and I had a fabulous meal (including the grapes of course) at the bar. The service was wonderful - the bartender didn't rush us/patient with my slow vino selection, and the holiday movie running was lovely. Can't wait to go back soon.

Yelp
Very cozy dinning experience. Service was friendly and very attentive. Food was delicious, and everything is presented & plated very well.
google avatar

Yelp
Been there twice. Nothing to complain about although there's something about it -- it's just not five stars for me. Maybe the ambience - kind of bright and cafe like. Food is great, wine selection is great, I had the same server both times and he was odd but good. Safe bet.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
They took so long to take our food order. Everyone was famished at the end. Cocktail selection is limited. Food is ok for the price. I was expecting something that will give me orgasm but was not that good. Jokes aside though, I enjoyed my food.

Yelp
My friend and I made last minute reservations here. The restaurant was located in The Ashley hotel. The waiting area was nice. The main area of the restaurant was also nice, but where we were seated was not. It was in the bar area and they were playing a movie on a projector. It was a very casual vibe. I didn't like it down there. The manager was very friendly, but the waitress seemed to have an attitude. We were in a rush to pay and leave because we didn't like the atmosphere there and when I asked for the check after the dessert she laughed? Not sure what was so funny. She should've brought the check out with the dessert. The menu was pretty small and it didn't have anything that I really wanted so I only got a glass of rosé and the lamb strip. The rosé was extremely overpriced. A glass was $27 when the whole bottle costs $48 online. Pretty ridiculous, if I had known this I wouldn't have ordered it. It wasn't even good rosé. My lamb was pretty good, the presentation was nice 3/5. It needed more yogurt, it was pretty dry. I was still hungry and I hardly eat. My friend ordered the market fish which was sort of like a paella with mussels and scallops. I preferred her dish, but she felt that it was overpriced. For dessert we ordered the creme brûlée. It was good, I wasn't a fan of the berries because the raspberries didn't look fresh. It was also extremely hot. I honestly wouldn't return.

Yelp
What a great experience!!! Happy hours was fantastic! Great apps and great prices Chimichurri w pork belly was great. We had the pork chops which was the best!! Grits were amazing!! The best part was Theresa our bartender and Gordon the manager! So personable, attentive and knowledgeable!!

Yelp
Came here for a NYE dinner with my friend. Upon arrival the host staff were very nice, they checked our coats. I really liked the ambiance of the place. Very cute and cozy. I ordered this drink called the Real Housewives of Detroit. It was good. We ordered Brussel sprouts as an appetizer. They were a bit spicy which I didn't mind since I like spice. As dinner I got the market fish which was a trout with beets and horseradish sauce. Super tasty. My friend got the mushroom risotto which was also super good. I also ordered a sweet red wine, it tastes like Stella Rosa to me so I wasn't impressed. We also ordered dessert. My friend got an apple cake and I got a chocolate mousse parfait. Both super delicious. Before attending the resturant we were skeptical about the limited menu but it ended up being a great experience. The only reason why I am giving 4 stars is because of the wine I had that tasted like Stella Rosa.

Yelp
My oh my!!!! I was taken here for my birthday. Few vegan options. However, this place was just fantastic. The service was impeccable. The food portions were just right and on the large side. Definitely not a place to go on a budget. For two of us the meal was $120 and I was the only one drinking. I had never seen meat portions so massive. For the meat eaters I hear this is a experience to be repeated. It is such an unassuming little place with huge personality.

Jesse M.

Yelp
We had a great experience! The service was outstanding. The steak was a bit expensive for what it was so docking a star but overall very nice. We'll be back!

J K.

Yelp
Meh. Came for dinner on a Tuesday, place was almost empty. Ordered the cheese plate. HUGE pieces of cheese! So much food we ended up not eating dinner. To the Owner: the chef needs to watch food costs! Good drinks.

Yelp
I was here once 4 years ago when they first opened but wasn't able to find anything on the menu I could eat that was substantial at the time. Back now and they have scallops and salmon tonight. The interior of this restaurant is really well done and so picture perfect in every aspect of it. Is well worthy of taking photos of every corner of this place. Ryan, our waiter, is a smoker, we could smell it distinctively after he had come back in from a smoke break. We hadn't seen him for quite a while in order to put in our food order either. He did finally come back a little while later. He was still nice enough waiter and super accommodating with our food preferences. We started off with the Charcuterie with the Brie, Gouda and Parmesan. Also ordered the Fried Brussels sprouts, Scallops entree, the Featured Atlantic salmon and risotto infused with truffle oil and with beech mushroom ($6) and black truffle shavings ($25 extra). And yes this carbonated Italian Ferrnelle bottle was $8, tasted like Perrier to me. The charcuterie was a great start to the meal. The Brie, Gouda, Parmesan, honey comb, roasted red pepper, olives, mustard seeds, red grapes and Marconi almonds were well orchestrated pairings. Ate it all up, perfect tasting sample of everything. The fried brussel sprouts were yummy, it had a nice kick from the Arbol chili infusion. We got 14 shavings of black truffle for the $25. The risotto was so delicious, down to the last grain in fact, it was well executed. The hostess, chef and waiter all asked how everything was for us, it was so on point and delicious from start to finish. The runner or busser brought us our water and filled it regularly too and cleared our table and gave us new plates and silverware between courses. The scallops were so perfectly cooked, delicate and scrumptious as was the blackened salmon. Every accompaniment to our salmon and scallops were well matched for each of them. I love their awesome lounge track, so perfect for this place.

Yelp
Outstanding & highly enjoyable dining experience. Serendipitous! From the water service, the intimate details of the table, down to the immaculate bathroom Vertical is all about the details! 'Twas a girls night out and The entire experience was fabulous! The drinks top notch! The service exquisite! I wish so could give Vertical 10 stars! I mean just check out my pics! I only wish Yelp was scratch & sniff because the decadence and flavor profile was on point! The entire team deserves so much praise and accolades for their precision and care!

Yelp
Good food in reasonable portions. Some might find them small. We didn't try any huge steaks since that's not something that is appealing to us. It's so close to the opera house and they were great about getting us out in time.

Yelp
Excellent good, outstanding service! Our server Sean was simply the best with great recommendations ! Great outdoor space as well as indoor dining.

Yelp
Vertical Detroit is a hidden gem in the Detroit dining scene and is a hot spot amongst locals. When you walk through the doors of this restaurant you feel like you are transferred into an old European cellar. The brick walls, candle lit tables and wine cellar sets the scene for a romantic evening of delicious food and vast selection of wines. The restaurant's wine list is expansive and they offer an array of wines by the glass from almost every region of the world. I have never been to a restaurant with so many options by the glass. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating; they will happily let you sample their offerings by the glass. For our meal We decided to share many dishes to get a full sampling of the menu. We started with the mussels, green salad and charcuterie board. I was pleasantly surprised by the mussel dish. The mussels were meaty and sweet tasting and came in a vibrant tomato broth that had some spice from the chorizo sausage. The green salad was also a delicious combination of greens, tangy goat cheese, crunchy nuts and sweet raisins. All of the components were complimentary and came together to form a delicious dish. For our main course we shared the lamb tenderloin and the fish special. The fish dish was a pan seared salmon atop a soy broth with bok choy and mushrooms. The fish was cooked perfectly with a seared crust and flaky centre. The broth was filled with copious umami flavour and perfectly highlighted the main protein. Finally we had the lamb tenderloin. The meat was cooked to a perfect medium and sat atop a creamy tahini sauce and was finished with a spicy drizzle that was reminiscent of a siracha sauce. We really enjoyed our experience at vertical and will definitely return to sample more of their tasty creations and vast wine selection.

Came here at the end of October for a date night dinner. We were seated immediately upon entry. All of the staff were extremely welcoming. Social distancing was being practiced and masks were worn. Once seated at our table, we ordered appetizers and entrées and I also let my waitress make me a flight of wine based off the taste of wine I prefer. She was so informative and knowledgeable. She did a great job of picking wine based off the food I ordered. The appetizers were pretty good. But the entrées were ABSOLUTELY OUT OF THIS WORLD. My date stated that that was the best steak he's ever tasted in his life. I was personally obsessed with the risotto. I've had plenty of risotto so far in my life, and I've never tasted a risotto so rich in flavor. It was hands down the best risotto I've encountered and I want more! Even the bathroom at this establishment was impeccable. So clean and modern. It even smelled nice! I was very impressed. For dessert, we had the apple cake which came with icecream. I ate every bite. My date ordered the expresso and brownie parfait. I'm assuming he liked it because he ate the entire thing. I'm sure we will be back again for another amazing time.

Yelp
We had an amazing dining experience at Vertical. The servers did an excellent job being attentive and explaining the food and cocktail menus. The tomahawk steak is absolutely superb. It was cooked perfectly and served with fingerling potatoes and asparagus. I also had a couple of their craft cocktails. I can't remember the names, but they were great also. I highly recommend Vertical for a fabulous, classy dining experience in Detroit.

Yelp
Had a group dinner here and I have to say I left pretty underwhelmed. I feel like I'm missing something because there's so many rave reviews! Our party was sat on a high table near the front of the restaurant which was okay but it was a bit distracting to have people constantly walking by throughout our meal. Despite their expansive wine menu they didn't have any Tempranillo by the glass, not a huge sin, of course but one would expect a wine bar to have plenty of options. My side of the table ordered a charcuterie and cheese plate as an appetizer and that was definitely the highlight of the meal. We quickly ran out of bread for our cheese and when I asked for more our server brought back a basket with 2 pieces. For my entree I had the Wolverine lamb strip and sadly it lacked both in presentation and flavor. There was a sole piece of carrot next to the lamb and overall looked a little thrown together. Both the risotto and lamb were on the bland side. The curried honey sauce was good and definitely added flavor to the dish but was perhaps a bit too sweet for the lamb, in my opinion. It wasn't bad by any means but for the price points I expected more. My friend's entree arrived cold but everyone else in our party really enjoyed their meals so perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. Thankfully, the wonderful company and conversation made up for the underwhelming dining experience!

Yelp
Vertical is a hidden gem in the city. As a customer for the past several years, it never disappoints. Their Happy Hour is one of the best in the city and I'm happy that they're one of the very few restaurants to start it back up in a "post-COVID" dining time. Cheers!

Yelp
Quiet and decadent experience! Iesha was our server. I'd love to say that we had a special connection, but I think Iesha is just very well-crafted as a server and is an overall good human being. You'll likely fall under her spell, but just let it happen, you will love the recommendations she makes and the experience as a whole. So satisfying, we will be back!

Yelp
We were visiting Detroit for the Seahawks game and Vertical was near our hotel. They were hosting a three year anniversary, so we decided to check it out. It was an awesome experience. The Vertical is both a wine bar and a restaurant. You walk in and then head down the stairs. If you are just going to try the bar, that is in the back past the tables. The anniversary meal started with a glass of champagne and then followed with five courses. The champagne was great, but not a surprise. They have an outstanding wine list. They did not have the first couple of bottles we ordered (they said they were in the process of revamping it), but fortunately had the third one, which was an excellent Napa Cab. The first course was tempura oysters. I had not ever had them prepared that was and they were wonderful. It came with an aioli that was a little too heavy that I do not think the oysters needed they were so good. Next was the salmon crudo. Coming from Seattle to Detroit I was not expecting much, but this was prepared really well. The salmon tasted nice and fresh. The highlights though were this coconut curry that turned out to be a wonderful complement to the salmon along with soy caviar. I had never had this before, but was surprisingly good. It did not have quite that salty fish taste that regular caviar has, but had I not seen it was from soy on menu, I might not have been able to tell the difference. Finally, it also included mint leaves. Again, I have not ever tried that with salmon but it was a great mix. Next up was duck confit. This was another great course. The taste of mine was still in my mouth as I ate the duck, but that was nice. The duck was flavored perfectly and I loved how there were these bits of crispy skin to give it a little crunch. This came with cous cous that was prepared a little like fried rice and worked really well. The chef is very creative, but again the results were good. As great as all of those other courses were, my favorite was the steak and eggs dish. This came with these two perfect pieces of tenderloin cooked perfectly (likely sous vide) topped with a quail egg and a Lyonnaise sauce. Every bite was a treat, just a perfect plate. The dessert course was a panna cotta that came with this five spice caramel and a vanilla bean mascarpone mousse. No surprise, this was absolutely delicious, another perfect blend of flavors. I am not sure what they day to day food is like at Vertical, but if they ever have any other anniversaries or wine dinners it is absolutely worth a visit.

Yelp
My s/o and I brought my mother here for dinner on a Monday evening. When we got there we decided to sit in the bar area in order to participate in the Happy Hour. HH is Mon-Fri from 4-6:30pm. We walked through the restaurant in order to get to the bar area. It's a truly beautiful location. Both the bar area and dining area have a fancy, pretty atmosphere. You really can't beat the happy hour, we had glasses of red wine for $5 as well as their signature cocktail of the day (which was an Old Fashioned) for $6. They also had a few discounted appetizers we tried including the truffle aioli fries. I love anything with truffle and this was no exception. We also tried the charcuterie and cheese board and bacon wrapped tenderloin. All were excellent. One of my favorite parts was the dessert- a dessert cheese board with fruits! How fun! As someone who is not a huge fan of sweets, this was a treat for me. We would definitely return for the beautiful, intimate atmosphere and delicious food. Glad to have Vertical Detroit nearby!
