The Tofu Benedict is INCREDIBLE! The taste and texture of it is just perfect. The tempeh bacon was so sweet and had such a good texture. I wish I could have ordered two of these!!!! We had breakfast/brunch twice here, and also got takeout to bring on the plane back home. We tried The Mountain, The Avalanche, and got the Breaded Chikun Sandwich and Barbecue Tigers to go. Everything was fantastic and super delicious! Service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was great. Had a great experience at Vertical Diner!

Google
An absolute dream to dine here for dinner and breakfast while passing through. This is hands down the best vegan food I’ve ever had. The cheese sauce and gravy were exquisite. Lisa was such a fantastic help and recommended the chai milkshake which was SO bomb. As a vegan, this is what dreams are made of. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience 🌱

Google
First off I want to make it clean I am not a Vegan and wanted to try an all vegan restaurant for breakfast. I’m sure their food is much better for vegans the key demographic they cater to. Service was fantastic everyone was very friendly and talkative. The overall vibe felt great. So I was told their biscuits & gravy are a hit so I got them plus a basic breakfast dish including potatoes and what was obviously now eggs or sausage. The biscuits & gravy were indeed delicious full flavor and served hot. The potatoes were great and that’s where I was done. I tried the makeshift eggs and didn’t like the taste and tried their tofu sausage patty and didn’t like the taste. The flavoring was different and I just couldn’t adapt. I assume those who are into that kind of food would enjoy it much more and are used to the particular flavor. I’ll continue to enjoy my bacon and eggs the way I like them but if I ever go vegan this place will be a weekly meal. 🫡 Respectfully

Google
Casual diner set-up, booths and tables, covered outdoor seating on metal tables and chairs. Prompt service, hip atmosphere. Lots of great variety on the menu, including an all day breakfast menu. We had the California Burrito, which was excellent, and a mango mocktail that was good. The Mac and Cheese gave my non-vegan wife renewed confidence in vegan cheese. The fudge Brownie Sunday we shared for dessert was outstanding. Will definitely get the Sunday next time, too — the highlight of a very good meal.

Google
Really wanted to enjoy this place, but the food was lacking. The diner itself is absolutely adorable, love that they kept the bar stools and booths. Large vegetarian and vegan menu. Had the strangest nachos that I have ever had in my life. Instead of a salsa on top of them, they put on what tasted like marinara?? The philly was okay, the "cheese" sauce tasted completely bland and was heavy (oil-based). The "milkshake" was exceptional and would go back, but only to get a "milkshake". Staff was friendly and well-versed on the menu.

Google
I will definitely come back to this place next time I am in SLC! I am from New Jersey so I grew up on diners with giant menus with a ton of different options. This place is the first all-vegan place that nails this concept that I’ve found while traveling. For some reason I didn’t have cell service at all inside, but they do have free WiFi so it was not an issue. Staff were super attentive and the food was delicious. Definitely try the seitan tenders. Look forward to checking out more of the menu.

Google
The Vertical Diner was delicious. I came in around 1030 and ordered the “La Mesa” dish which concludes of potatoes, tofu, guacamole, beans and more . Service was fast and everyone who worked there was spunky and amazing ! Definitely an awesome vegan option in Salt Lake City.

Google
Food was good. I had the jackfruit bbq. It was great. Could have been slightly bigger for more value points but it was plenty of food in the end. I was in a little bit of a rush and I usually associate dinners with quick turn over. It was not! It seemed to have a loyal following and a certain vibe that’s hard to explain (maybe not in a hurry). Atmosphere was good.

Yelp
Such great tasting food! Such great service! Definitely recommend ! Especially if you are going to try vegan food for the first time, this is the place

Yelp
Just landed in Salt Lake for a weekend trip. Looked this place up before we left. So glad we did. Amazing! Saige was our tour guide for the menu. She was fantastic! Very knowledgeable of the menu. Told us her favorite dishes. Her recommendations did not disappoint! We will definitely be back. Also love that they are open later. Cannot wait to back and try the desserts!

Kiley M.

Yelp
Pretty good vegan spot with all the classic comfort foods you may miss as a vegan! I wouldnt say anything we got was amazing, and I likely wouldn't return unless I had someone vegan visiting, but it's worth trying.

Jade M.

Yelp
Vertical Diner is my FAVORITE place to go to when I visit SLC. I'm vegan and my husband isn't but we both enjoy the food here. I always try something different and the flavors always make me happy. My husband stick to what he loves, Dude Cakes, which are always perfect. The service is always great and the people are super friendly. I love the diner feel as well. We can't wait to come back! (Not pictured, we also had the tiramisu cake, highly recommend!)

Crystal M.

Yelp
Yummm! I was surprisingly impressed by vertical diner! first, our server Dev was very helpful And provided wonderful service. The menu offered a wide array of vegan comfort foods for breakfast, lunch dinner or dessert!! It was really hard to decide but we got their mac & cheese which our server also recommended and I'm glad we got it. It was one of the best vegan mac & cheeses I've ever had. I got their special chicken with biscuits and gravy. Their biscuits and gravy are amazing and I really enjoyed my vegan chicken. Next, I'm always on the hunt for a good vegan French toast and I was really curious to try their carrot butter too. I do not like the baguette French toast. I would prefer a Texas toast or regular white bread. The baguette is just too hard and not enough bread to soak up the flavoring but if it would've been regular French toast, I would've loved it because the carrot butter is unique and amazing and I'd come back for that over and over again. Diner is super casual. Service is great. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Absolutely loved the food! My friend found this vegan spot to take me to when visiting in SLC. I really wanted to try the escargot mushrooms but they were out. Was so disappointed! However the fried Brussels were excellent as was the lentil veggie burger. The restraint was fairly quiet and we were waited upon quickly. It it a bit of a beaten down look but very clean. Bathrooms were clean as well. My major complaint was I paid cash and did not realize I did not get a receipt handed to me with my change until I got back to my friends place. I need receipts for my business meals and am out of luck on this one because I wasn't given one. Always should the customer be offered a receipt! Cash or not.

Yelp
As a non-vegan diet customer having vegan food for the first time, you can't compare this style of food to the real deal. If you go in thinking it will be hard to distinguish vegan vs. real, you'll be disappointed. Inside, the small area did give a typical "diner" appearance. We were notified of their vegan menu upon seating at one of the booths by a friendly worker. I ordered one of the burgers with a bean/lentil patty. It came with my choice of a side: mac and cheese. The patty was really squishy and fell apart or shall I say "squished into a mashed potato-like texture" for more detail - not a bad thing, just a bean/lentil thing. It had little flavor, which is better than a bad flavor. The mac and cheese was much better. I would not say it tastes super "cheesy", but a light and creamy flavor. The almond parmesan was a good addition and added texture. Sadly, even with this positive experience, I cannot say I could give up my consumption of animals for this food. I am still glad they have this option for the vegans out there!

Yelp
One of my all-time favorite vegan restaurants, nationwide! First off, I love breakfast foods and diners. As a part-time vegan, it's very challenging to find great vegan breakfast food. First up, their menu is huge and pretty overwhelming. In typical diner fashion, there's breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in-between items. Top marks go to the Mac n Cheese and the biscuits and gravy - definitely some of the best I've had. The items that didn't quite impress me were the scrambled (tofu) eggs and french toast. Service was super friendly and pretty attentive, but I could tell they got a bit strained as the restaurant got packed after 11am. Will definitely stop in again the next time I'm in SLC!

Steve H.

Yelp
Awesome. Service awesome. Two cool fast waitresses. Tasty fresh and just happy food. Three different styles of seitan were perfect. Thanks.

Ras U.

Yelp
When I tell you you have to be appreciative of places like this that make sure they accommodate vegetarians in this kind of way. Not only is the food flavorful of many different options. I showed up with over ten people they were able to See us immediately Not only did they give everyone great attention, but there were amazing recommendations based on their own commentary. They had no problem with breaking the bills up and didn't make any fuss. Even though the place was extremely packed when we went went we never felt rushed. Everyone loved their food. And we've sent tons of people to this restaurant. A definitely a diamond

Corynn B.

Yelp
Vegan comfort food at its finest! My sister lives out of state and this is the first place she wants to come every time she visits. Our go-to order is The Mountain, which is a cheezy, carb-y, pile of deliciousness with potatoes, your choice of vegan bakun or sausage, cheese, guacamole, tofu scramble, and sauteed peppers and onions. It's amazing. We usually opt to get it to go, and everything stays fresh and just as delicious as when you get it in the restaurant. The cheezy sauce is just amazing, I just recently tried to recreate it at home and while it was almost as good, nothing compares to the real deal at Vertical Diner. They have booth and table seating inside and patio seating in the warmer months. No reservations, and whenever I've tried to dine in, there's usually a wait. It's never been terribly long though.

Yelp
We came here for son's birthday breakfast. He got the pancakes and really liked them. I had the pancakes with eggs, tempeh bacon and potatoes....so good!! Hubby had the La Mesa plate and said it was wonderful. It was hubby's second time there this week alone. To say we like this place is an understatement. Service and food is always amazing! Son said he likes the vibe.

Henry H.

Yelp
During a recent work trip to SLC, I was delighted by all the gluten free and vegan options. It was hard to choose where to have dinner one night. I'm so glad I picked Vertical Diner. The staff was friendly, the vibe eclectic and the food amazing!! (I wish I had eaten inside rather than take out to get the full experience.) I ordered the power protein bowl. It had tofu, cabbage, avocado slices, rice and carrots. It was delicious. The sauce was a little spicy, just enough kick to make it enjoyable without setting my mouth ablaze. I only wish I was in SLC longer to try another menu item, inside with all the cool vibes, of course.

Lydia L.

Yelp
Vertical Diner was an excellent choice for vegan fair! Apps: Fried Brussels - so crispy and filled with flavor!! It comes with a ranch dipping sauce, but honestly, it doesn't even need it! Entrees: My friend and I shared the Bombtastic Biscuits n Gravy (comes w/ tofu scramble, protein choice & potatoes) with a side of the sautéed mushrooms. I was so incredibly impressed with the creaminess of the gravy and the biscuit for it not to have ANY butter or dairy !! Highly recommend to pair with the mushrooms. The tofu scramble was your basic tofu scramble, nothing too exciting about it. The fennel sausage was not really for me, as it was more of a burger patty-type versus a thin breakfast patty. It was a little mushy in texture but not terrible. Potatoes were your average country style. Service: Shoutout to AMBER! She mentioned she was newer, but we couldn't even tell. She made sure to find all the answers to our questions and did a great job making sure our needs were met. A+! Ambiance: The place is a very cute diner-style establishment with a little bar in the front and patio seating in the back. There is also a few items for purchase hy the front of the shop.

Shefali L.

Yelp
Staff were very friendly. The burger was recommended but I didn't like it that much. It lacked flavor. Fries were overcooked. The shake was good but too sweet. And the Mac and cheeze bites were pretty good. I don't think I ordered welll. If I'm ever in town, I don't think I'll come back or I will just order something different. The restaurant had a good diner vibe. Also decorated in Halloween theme since it is mid October.

AmyLiccet N.

Yelp
Great options that are vegan friendly! The diner vibe is great and the food tastes pretty solid. The place isn't super big so if you go on a packed night you'll have to wait. The serive was also fast. Overall would recommend as a great vegan friendly option!

Casey G.

Yelp
Dessert was all the things that carrot cake ought to be... Moist, vibrant and visible carrot shreds, icing not too sweet and raisins plump and tasty. Found out that Tuesday night offers a AYCE pizza which looks fantastic!!!

John P.

Yelp
I ate lunch here. It's a pleasant place with nice servers and good food. I haven't tried enough to give it five stars. Maybe I will in the future?! I really enjoyed the simple but delicious protein bowl. I had a beer too! Good sunlight through the window. A good place to read a book while enjoying a simple lunch. I recommend you give it a try.

Jessica W.

Yelp
So cute! Super nice host/servers! Amazing vegan food :) we went for a hungover breakfast and it hit the spot! Would recommend for and visiting the SLC area!

Jackie F.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the breakfast here!!! I love all the options they have for us vegans. It's especially hard to find breakfast foods for vegans at a restaurant so I loved my time here! My favorite items were the biscuits and gravy with a side of potatoes and the chocolate chip pancake! 10/10. The tofu scramble lacked a little seasoning but the texture was just like eggs. I don't eat the processed vegan meats and such so I can't give an opinion on that. I revisited this place for dinner because I was so intrigued by how lovely the breakfast was and it was slightly disappointing. I had the jackfruit tacos and they were a bit underwhelming. Overall it lacked flavor and it was very messy and hard to eat. But I didn't get to try a ton other menu items so I may be biased about the dinner. Give it a go. Definitely for breakfast! The diner ambiance was cute and my servers were both nice and knowledgeable about the menu for both times I visited.

Kyle A.

Yelp
If I could give 10/10 I would. Vertical diner was great. My wife and I came for breakfast two different times during our vacation. The plant based menu makes it easy for me to find out (gluten free and vegetarian) so I enjoyed being able to indulge a little. I had La Mesa both times. Great potato dish without any heavy spices. Service was great. The first visit our server was Kiki (I think) and she was great to talk too. I didn't get our servers name from the second visit but she was sweet and courteous. The ambiance reminded me of home and it was an easy pick for my heart. I used to frequent Saturn Cafe in Santa Cruz before it closed. The vibe, music, food, and staff reminded of home in all good ways. I look forward to returning in the future.

Yvonne G.

Yelp
First ever vegan restaurant experience! Awesome sauce!! Sage was the best server ever - she gave recommendations & answered questions with enthusiasm! The Tony Hawk burger she suggested was delish!! And the order of Tender Tigers appetizer - so good! My daughter got the Rainbow Wrap and gave it ! The restaurant had lots of customers, many were walk-ins picking up orders or getting food to go. We dined in. Adequate seating and several booths inside, an outdoor patio area & it was clean, comfy with lots of artwork. Definitely would eat there again...everything was flavorful and wonderfully seasoned! Impressed!

Michael F.

Yelp
This was a delicious meal. My cousin is vegan and he was super impressed by the food. Even I was impressed and got dessert!

Adam W.

Yelp
Don't debate it, just go! It's delicious. Had the side cakes since they sounded so unique, and I loved them! Super friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

Indo S.

Yelp
In Salt Lake for a conference. Went straight to Vertical from airport to get some lunch. Service was nice. Comfort food was tasty. Prices reasonable. We liked the diner atmosphere, will likely be back for breakfast.

Justyna B.

Yelp
Disclaimer I'm not vegan! But they have very good comfort food. I got the Mac n cheese and it was sooooooo delicious!!! My rainbow wrap was average, no complaints. My friend also swears by the biscuits and gravy.

Alicia L.

Yelp
100 percent yes ! This place is amazing ! It's rare to find an all vegan diner in the US and this one hits the spot ! My first favorite all vegan diner was Champs in Brooklyn whom is now permanently closed. This diner has your classic diner feel inside which I love. The service was spot on and the food was incredible. It filled my diner food cravings for sure. Their tofu scramble was one of the best tofu scrambles I have ever had, anywhere. Their pancakes were huge, fluffy & delicious ! Their French toast was amazing and so filling. And I loved their country style potatoes too. Coffee was also perfectly brewed. I think their hot sauce is made in house and wow it's also amazing. I think they should sell it ! I'd totally buy a bottle. UGH cannot wait to go back next time I'm in SLC. I need to try their famous dude cakes, cheesesteak sandwich, and some of their desserts too.

Michael N.

Yelp
This place looks like a roadside cafe, so I was expecting typical roadside cafe food which I love. The cute waitress came over, handed me a menu and as I read the menu it mentioned that the place was catering mostly to the vegan crowd, but they did make chicken sandwiches so, I ordered one. I was delicious.

Jerry M.

Yelp
A solid vegan comfort food diner. We had the chili bowl, artichoke dip, Ruben sandwich with fries, and a side salad. All were fresh and tasty. Would like to see the chili in a bread bowl as an option. Service was good with Walker, he was friendly and welcoming. He was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent suggestions. Dine inside or outside. But the patio needs a spritz due to the birds.

Cynthia W.

Yelp
I've been to Vertical Diner quite a few times over the years, and I have to say, this time was particularly good. I got the caesar chikun wrap with a side of mac & cheese and the tiramisu. The chikun was delicious, I really liked the texture. The mac and cheese was very cheesy, which a lot of vegan mac and cheese aren't. I didn't really get a taste of the caesar part tho-- so I doused it in the house made(?) hot sauce, which was tangy and a bit spicy. The tiramisu tho steals the show: it was so moist and the cream they put in it was delicious. It was more on the chocolatey side, but I had no complaints. Highly recommend trying it! The ambiance is nice, they have these nice lamps hanging over the booth tables, which gives a nice glow in the evening. The service was great; the waitress we had was very prompt and friendly.

Jerry R.

Yelp
Used to be a big fan of Vertical, then they changed management and it got so bad we vowed not to go back. But... it's the only place in town to get a vegan breakfast, so we try it occasionally in hopes that it's returned to its glory days. We visited again this March and, while it's better in some respects, it's still disappointing. There are some new menu items, so I tried the Power Protein Bowl, which boasted "sauteed vegetables, tofu scramble, steamed spinach, brown rice..." It was pretty good, but for $14 I expected more than half a cup of rice, half a sliced carrot, a dab of spinach, and two tablespoons of tofu scramble. I mean, how does that little tofu even come close to being "power protein"? Service was friendly, so full marks there. But the portions remain ridiculously small for the prices. It's also sad that the bread offerings have diminished so much. My wife used to love the breakfast sandwich on multigrain bread, but now there are zero healthy bread choices. And don't get me started on the size of the pancakes or the amount of potatoes that come with your oder.

Someone W.

Yelp
The service here was good and the staff were very nice, but the food here was so NOT good. Most of the food options were gluten free which isn't BAD and they almost all came with tofu. But for it to be written in a newspaper A FULL PAGE dedicated to this diner! I would've expected more than this. The stake was also squishy and had weird looking holes in it that made it even more gross. It looked rubbery and it did NOT taste like how stake should taste. Honestly, I wouldn't come here ever again. I want food with flavor and this just did NOT satisfy me or my tastebuds

Penny M.

Yelp
Food is absolutely wonderful, almost thought it was too good to be true that all of this is plant based. Customer service is great, everyone was so kind and friendly. Always full every time I am there with customers, that already speaks volume!

Ray O.

Yelp
This was gem of a place for us as we're traveling cross country. As vegetarians we never know what we will find when traveling. This place had a great menu selection. The food was excellent! The staff very friendly and the ambiance was very relaxed and chill. Would definitely recommend!

Jonathan G.

Yelp
I recently went to Vertical Diner and it was such an amazing experience! The food was so delicious! I was so happy to see that they had tofu scramble on the menu, as most places are going towards Just eggs. You should definitely try their biscuits and gravy, it was the best gravy I've had in a while. I wish Diner was in Long Beach,CA

David L.

Yelp
I'm so glad I found this spot. I love a vegan diner. I brought my non vegan friend and he was super impressed. It has nice vibe, classic diner. The staff were super friendly. We had the nacho moma, vertical ruben and pina carnitas tacos. They were all tasty and we finished them off with shakes!

Lizzy G.

Yelp
Gluten free, vegan pancakes! Need I say more?! Absolutely loved my short stack, mixed with chocolate and topped with berries and coconut whipped cream. My husband and I stopped here on our way to the airport and loved every bite of our breakfast. Our server was kind and attentive and gave us recommendations, which was much appreciated. I also ordered a latte with almond milk and it was great. Definitely will come back whenever we visit again!

Bekah C.

Yelp
Vertical Diner is the only vegan diner I've ever visited in SLC, but it won't be my last. A lot of people shy away from vegan or plant based food establishments, but Vertical Diner is ready to convert. From the moment my friend and I walked in, the staff was welcoming and friendly. We were seated immediately and the coffee followed closely behind. We enjoyed everything we ate! I personally couldn't get enough of the pancakes. Those things are addictive. I can see why VD has a cult-like following! This place is awesome.

Raha M.

Yelp
My vegan friend brought me here and I'm SO glad he did! The food is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the Nacho Mama. I also ordered the Taco Mac (seasonal dish) and it was insanely good. The tiramisu was very tasty as well. I may have eaten just a little too much of everything and got way full, but it was absolutely worth it. Each of these dishes were packed with so much flavor! I'm looking forward to trying more dishes next time I come here. Although I'm not vegan, this is easily one of my new favorite restaurants and I highly recommend it. Great service and lots of seating options too.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
The staff is so friendly. The ladies working their tails off have smiles and sass and we loved dining with them. The entire menu is vegan and full of comfort food. We ordered a millions things from tiger bites (chicken wings) to biscuits and gravy. The Mac and cheese was very good. Tempeh bacon was crispy and flavorful. The biscuits and gravy and Cubano were good, but I wouldn't order again. So many items on the menu to try. Breakfast all day! Save room for dessert. They also have a small selection of beers and ciders too!

Brian F.

Yelp
Big menu ! Everything is vegan! I will come here again when in town. Nice spot and friendly staff.

Ashley B.

Yelp
I've been a long time customer, always ordering buffalo tiger. To my surprise my most recent order came with very few tigers. I called and they really did not care. Being a vegan restaurant is hard to run cause there's not many vegans out there, they should care about their customers more than anything. I've decided to take my business elsewhere.

the_ M.

Yelp
Vertical diner is the best vegan diner in Salt Lake City, by far. Everything is vegan and then a lot of items can be made gluten free / without gluten. They have an initial or symbol for the dishes that can be made gluten free. Nachos are always a win if you end up here as a first timer, you can't go wrong with the nachos, or the chili (if you're a chili person). They recently put a lot of work into their new and improved / updated version of their menu. I noticed on Sunday, they also can do pancakes REALLY well. I don't ever remember gluten free / vegan pancakes on previous visits to the diner, but they had some on the menu this time, and I wasn't about to pass up trying them!! They are hands down AMAZING, I can't talk them up enough. This place and their entire menu, makes me instantly relieved because I know I can have multiple things on the menu and also they took the time to put new items on their menu which I always respect. Restaurants and any food establishment really, has so much work to do aside from the hustle and bustle of preparing and cooking the food for everyone. That takes a lot of patience and a lot of time. They are quick I've never had to wait longer than 15 minutes to get my food. They do pick up and I think they may do delivery... but don't quote me on that because I actually have no idea! They have merchandise you can buy to rep your favorite local vegan diner! Shirts, hoodies, hats, beanies, I can't remember what all else but a decent amount. I plan to visit the Portland location the next time I am in Oregon and can't wait! It's exciting and I'm so proud of them as a company. They have been THRIVING since my husband and I moved to Salt Lake Cin July of 2016, so that was 6 years ago and they have consistently had good service, and they survived COVID which thank God, but there are so many other food establishments that didn't.

Morgan S.

Yelp
In love with this diner! The food is so so good. I got the avalanche and my husband ordered the protein power bowl. We split the buffalo tigers. All of the food was amazing. So good that we came back 2 other times - once to get a chocolate milkshake for my husband and another to get the TBLAT for takeout. I wish they had one in the DC area!!

Abhinav J.

Yelp
Amazing place and vegan food selection. Adding this place for a must go place for trips to Salt Lake City.

RoSa A.

Yelp
Fantastic vegan and gluten-free choices! I tried the jackfruit tacos, and they were so impressive that I returned the next day for more. Connor provided excellent recommendations, making the experience even better. Discovered this gem while attempting to visit a high-end vegan restaurant nearby. Grateful for the gluten-free options. Despite the diner-like interior, the food exceeded expectations

TJ C.

Yelp
Stoked they were open on Thanksgiving. After arriving in SLC at 2pm we were still able to have a cracking family meal. This vegan diner has some crazy flavorful dishes and you'll definitely be full when you leave. Amazingly delicious shakes, great starters, excellent service, huge portions and crazy combos (stuffed pancakes with sausage, peppers, mushrooms, and smothered in gravy) make the nice diner vibe even more awesome.

Matt L.

Yelp
Pretty decent vegan place had the "dude cakes" gravy was particularly decent. People and atmosphere was refreshing.

Edward O.

Yelp
Serviceable vegan food! Watch out for chipotle chickun sandwich cause it's 90% jalapeno.
