Where to Eat in Angel, Islington and Holloway Road - Eater London

"Islington residents, staunch Remainers one and all judging by the window-dressing back in 2016, love themselves a French cafe/bakery. There’s Le Péché Mignon, snuck away in a residential street just of the Holloway Road; implausibly, Belle Epoque and Joie de Vie find themselves operating a baguette’s length away from each other on Upper Street. Best of the lot, though, is Vertige, where the shop-front counter display is enough to seduce anyone with a hankering for enriched pastry or bechamel. The croque-monsieur-esque cheese toastie is epochal, the pains aux chocolate are just so, and the croissant is quite possibly London’s best, a marvel of flaky layers with an almost custardy centre. Weekends see a short, simple brunch menu including a very good, classical cheese omelette; really, though, the best time to arrive is whenever something is being taken out of the oven." - George Reynolds

Love this cafe. It is my favourite. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. They have a lot of space for a small place. Their pastries are amazing- my favourite are the croissants but I try to avoid gluten. The breakfasts are great too. My favourite are the corn cakes with the poached egg and chilli jam! They have a lot of vegetarian options which is great! Also gluten free options too. Coffee is great! Highly recommend

Great cafe. The food massively surpassed expectations and the baked goods were exceptional, paticularly the orange and almond cake. Extremely friendly and helpful service. The only point for improvement is that it's a little humid and stuffy inside, even with the door open.

We pass by this café everyday. We see people enjoying drinks most of the time so we don't see it as a breakfast place. We tried it and the place is awesome. Besides the good coffee they have a different and healthy food menu.

Super cute cafe - the croque madame was delicious as was the pain au chocolat. Friendly staff!

Excellent food and service, perfect for brunches. However, the place is a little cramped and the walls echo back a lot of noise. The seating is meant to be utilitarian chic I suppose but it's just not that comfortable in reality. The standout quality is definitely the quality of the food. The shakshuka was excellent as were other items we got such as croquet Monsieur and Eggs Benedict.

A lovely local independent cafe. My two flat whites and my crushed avocado in toast with an egg was perfection. It is so much better than cage chains that are everywhere. Go and find an independent out and see the difference!

Really nice brunch place, really cute and cozy. Staff really helpful and friendly, always kept an eye on everyone. Only thing I would mention is the cold inside as the main door is open, but there is a covered terrace which is maybe warmer. I didn’t have to wait for a table nor waited too much for food. I would come back 100%
