The 38 Best Restaurants in Melbourne | Eater

"The name gets it right; this place has easily the finest falafel in town, bright green and chunky on the inside, crisp on the outside. Friends Shuki Rosenboim and Louisa Allan grew their business from stalls at local markets to a permanent shop, gathering loyal customers along the way. The cute Brunswick storefront is seemingly always packed with young people in search of crisp salads, velvety hummus, sabich bursting with eggplant — and always falafel. If you like heat, ask for extra zhug, which is house-made and loaded with cilantro and green chile." - Audrey Bourget

📍Very Good Falafel, Brunswick - 4.2 ⭐️ out of 5. We had the: ➖Ktzizot (lamb) pita ($15) ➖Falafel pita ($14) ➖Hand cut chips ($9) Firstly, I was OBSESSED with the hand cut chips here. I loved the shape of them, they had a good mix of small crispier pieces and larger softer pieces AND the most delicious seasoning which I cannot for the life of me figure out (potentially paprika?). I had the lamb pita which was delicious. The lamb was so flavourful and I loved the pickled veggies inside. I think the pita was a pretty decent size for the price. I almost bit in to the lemon which was inside the pita, but that’s my own lack of paying attention. Super cute and homey in here with only a small amount of seats. Keen to come back and try one of the plates! Overall 4.2 ⭐️ out of 5.

★★★★★ The name says it all, Very Good Falafel is very, very good! I had the falafel plate, and everything was fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor. The falafels were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with just the right blend of herbs and spices. The hummus, pickles, and salads on the side were just as impressive, simple, authentic, and made with love. You can really taste the care that goes into every dish. If you’re into Middle Eastern food or just love a great vegetarian option, this place is a must. Generous portions, warm atmosphere, and food that hits the spot every single time. Highly recommended! Thank you 😊

Google
The best middle eastern food around - that’s why it’s always packed. Never can decide between the falafel or the sabich…either way you can’t go wrong!!

Love coming here - the falafel is delicious, salads are fresh and flavourful and the pita is light and fluffy. Great value!

Every item on the menu at Very Good Falafel is delicious. My favourite is the eggplant plate!! I cannot fault this place at all. It really should be named “The Very Best Eggplant Plate in Melbourne”!!

Oh my goodness! If you like falafel and haven’t been here you need to stop what you’re doing and drive here right now! My first time here! It was awesome! And my walnut and chocolate slice was ridiculously delicious!!! Definitely recommend and will return!

Google
Truly abysmal food and dining experience. Not only is this colonised and gentrified cuisine (they've gone to great lengths to hide the "origins" of the food) but the food itself is terrible. Customer service was perhaps one of the worst I've ever experienced. I understand you might have been busy, but there is simply no need to treat people the way they did. I did not know until later that this is an Israeli origin restaurant and NOT an actual Middle Eastern restaurant and most certainly not Palestinian, Lebanese, Syrian or Egyptian (or whenever else they decide to co opt their cuisine from)

So good but the spice in the falafel did take away from the pleasant feed for someone that doesn’t eat any spice. Otherwise, so delicious. We’ll be back 🙂

Yelp
I found this place to be rather interesting. In fact, what they had on their menu was quite different to what I was used to, and in fact, it isn't the sort of place that I would have wandered into if it wasn't for my friends who had decided to eat out here for dinner. Well, it certainly was an experience, and from the crowds here on a Tuesday night this place is certainly popular. Okay, I'm probably not going to walk into a similar place in the future, but I still quite liked it.

Yelp
THE best felafel pita I've ever had. EVER. So delicious and filling. The felafel was actually very moist considering how dry felafel can be usually. Not so here. Cool little joint, playing cool tunes, friendly service... treat yo'self

Yelp
Very good falafel? Very GREAT falafel more like it. This was a very great falafel. I popped in to this newly found Sydney Road establishment (it's up the Dejour Jeans end of Sydney Road) for a late lunch and was well and truly impressed. The fit-out is very '2016 Melbourne' - clean, sleek and with a lot of indoor plants. It can probably seat around 20 people, however I ordered to go. I ordered a falafel in pita (you can get it in a pita or a salad) to take away. They cooked and made it fresh in front of me and it did not look like what I was expecting. Unlike the long, thin falafel wraps we're so used to, this one was round, stuffed and reminded me of a calzone. All the ingredients were incredibly fresh and the falafel was soooo crunchy but soft on the inside - perfection! I will definitely be back to Very Good Falafel, and might get a salad next time.

Yelp
This is my local place and my old housemate used to eat here about 3 times per week. I am not kidding that is an average too. some weeks she would be there 5 night. It's that good. the spread between good falafel and terrible falafel is a huge margin, and this place consistently make very very good falafel. Also bonus: their salads are inventive and interesting and the salad meal option is large and filling and very very tasty. The salads rotate so you end up getting something different each time. Often packed, with good reason, fast and efficient staff. Excellent Falafel. Don't ever change.

Yelp
Very decent falafel. Basic spot. Not a place you'd want to eat at but for to go it's nice. Wish there'd be more hummus in the wrap.

Yelp
yummmmmm! This place is new - or I've never seen it before. Was heading to coburg for a falafel and very glad I stopped here. Had a falafel pita which was delicious. The balls were crispy and soft and fresh - so good! Very busy but super quick. Will be back!

Yelp
Friendly staff. Great meals and service at a very reasonable price. This place will get busy so go a little earlier or be prepared. Their serving sizes are big. The place sits about 20 people but very suitable take away boxes are provided if you choose to do this.
