Seattle’s Wa Na Wari Offers Free African Diasporic Food - Eater Seattle

"The Daily Herald reported Friday that Lynnwood pirate-themed bar Vessel Taphouse lost four employees and three shows from bands after the business publicized an event on Facebook by writing, “Come see the show, maybe catch the virus or just stay home and whine” and offered a discount for those who arrived with positive COVID-19 tests." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart

Yelp
After reading another Yelp review I realized the same folks that had Blue Lightning Brewing also have Vessel Taphouse. I was very fond of Blue Lightning and was sad when they closed and came over to Vessel to see if they may have beer similar to Blue Lightning. Alas, they did not but had a generous amount of guest taps. A woman who sat several seats away from me either was the (or a) owner and vowed to get their own beer on tap again soon. But unfortunately I didn't make it back before the ownership and the space got revamped again into more of a music venue now known as Club Hektic. This is a relatively new reincarnation and I haven't been here since the change and I don't know what has changed and what has stayed the same from my visit when it was known as Vessel Taphouse. But as Vessel I did enjoy the decor quite a bit. The idea is that it was pirate themed but I walked away thinking it was more Gothic. But either way the atmosphere was sure cool! At a glimpse from pictures online it looks different inside as Club Hektic but the atmosphere still looks alluring.

Yelp
Food was okay. Burger and bun were dry. Kale salad had too much dressing on it - my fault, should have ordered it on the side. There is a 20% surcharge on the bill and the service was slow. Waited a long time to get someone to our table and then to get drinks.

Yelp
Vessel Taphouse is a dive bar but a freakin awesome dive bar. Its pirate themed! The drinks were good, bartender was chill, atmosphere was also chill but probably wild on concert nights. They have three rooms in the bar; the main bar area, a game room, and an event room for concerts and shows. Vessel is a great place to chill with friends or stop by for a drink.

Yelp
We stopped by randomly! The owner took us on a tour! What a cool place! Literally anything you want. It's here! Live music, pool, darts, Jenna, foosball, beer pong, ping pong, video games, pinball. We will be back to try food next time!

Yelp
This place has really been changing for the better. The owner has been putting a lot of effort into better entertainment, parking, food and customized drinks. The new bartenders are friendly and quick to serve. Its gaining some positive traction via media due to the film studio upstairs that they film tv series at. There are a lot of upcoming events and exclusive drinks coming out soon I hear. The arcade might be hosting tournaments - Ive got to meet quite a few of the celebrity bands that come through (Texas Hippie Coalition, Phix, CallMeKarizma, etc.) and they love the place. Keep it up guys!

Yelp
Avoid at all costs. I went here for a concert, first there's no parking. You're then greeted to the smell of musty dog as you walk in, nothing has been cleaned since Regan was president. Tried to play Big Buck Hunter, the gun wasn't working. I came for a concert and there are 3 bars in the place but only 1 was open, with only 2 bartenders so lines were long. It's an old warehouse so the acoustic sound is terrible. To top it all off they gave my credit card to someone else and let them tab out with it. Mistakes happen right? I was amicable about it, hoping that it was just a mistake and the person who took my card would come back and return it to pick up their own card. Well, this place doesn't have a phone that works (pay your phone bill!), nor do they reply to e-mail or Facebook. There's no way to reach them. I left them 4 messages over 2 weeks with no one reaching out to me. (Despite them posting and commenting on social media, so clearly someone is using the site) They clearly don't care about their establishment or their customers, avoid this place.

Yelp
Last night, I had the unfortunate pleasure of visiting the Vessel Taphouse for a Gabriel Rutledge show. It's location, off 99 located in the armpit of Washington State, Lynnwood. Pros: A very friendly bartender who made stiff drinks and was working hard on her day off and an old school Ms. Pac-Man still in good condition. Cons: A sexist owner / Host (?), disrespectful staff, location, bad food, and pirate themed atmosphere. Let's talk about the host of the evening: He made comments twice about Gabriel not selling enough tickets and being forced to play the smaller stage. Look asshole, as the venue/promoter, you are responsible for promoting and marketing the show. It's not Gabriel's fault that nobody wanted to come to your crappy, pirate themed bar. Also, to make those comments on stage in front of a packed room of paying customers is unprofessional and insulting to everyone in the room. It also makes YOU look like an ass. He then followed this up by closing the night out by making sexually inappropriate comments about his bartender being a stripper/dancer. He tried to pawn this behavior off on "too many shots of vodka!". To the bartender, if you are reading this, nobody should have to take that kind of abuse from another employee, let alone a manager (especially a man who is in a position of power). If you want a good lawyer, let me know. I'm sure he will take your case for free and you can sink The Vessel into the sea. Other cons: The food and menu was not as advertised on the site. They were serving three hoagies that looked like they were put together by my drunken college roommate for a late night of cramming. The bar staff thought it was a good idea to crank up the jukebox while Gabriel was still on stage at 9 pm. Avoid this place like the plague! (Or like what it is: A pirate themed bar located in the middle of Lynnwood)

Yelp
I highly recommend Vessel Taphouse to anyone who is looking for a fun night out or a place to host their next event. I rented out a room to celebrate my 30th birthday and all of my guests enjoyed themselves greatly! The food was delicious, drinks were wonderful, and we enjoyed the private room very much. The game room was a huge hit, and it was so much fun. That is a unique space you can't find easily and it helped make the party perfect. I recommend the venue to anyone who needs a fun place to party, and the staff helped make it a special night!

Yelp
I went here to see my friend's band (Yes today) play. First of all, they had no advertising outside or inside saying that there was any music let alone who was playing. So I went in looking for the stage. I found a room (there are lots of rooms) that had a band playing 90s cover tunes. It was not quite time for the band I came to see to play, so I decided to find a drink as nobody approached me to see if I wanted anything (I did). So I had to go to a different room to find a bar. I asked for a Manhattan and was told that they didn't have any vermouth. So I asked what whiskey drinks they had and was told that they could make an old fashioned. I said ok. I watch as the bartender puts ice in an old fashioned glass, fills it almost to the brim with whiskey and pours something from a squirt bottle in. Note that this is not how to make an old fashioned. I think I was charged around $12 for this. I decided to just drink it anyway as it was decent whiskey. Then I went back to the room where the band was playing as I was thinking that they were the opening band. I endured them, and nobody waited on me the whole time. Finally the band finishes and a one man band sets up and starts making noise (terrible BTW). I finally ask the girl doing sound if there is another stage. She says yes and points me to another room. And voila! My friend's band is playing. Luckily I only missed a few minutes of the first song. I found a place to sit and still was never approached by wait staff. I was hungry and had planned to eat and have a couple drinks. Oh well. So as a bar and restaurant, this place sucks. As for the sound system. Very muddy and way too much bass. The band was a Yes tribute band, not hip hop. So the sound person was clueless. My friend told me later that the whole stage was shaking because they had big ass subwoofers under the stage. Bar rescue needs to come here and ream them a new one.

Yelp
Went to a School of Rock show here mid winter. First of all parking is crap, at best there's maybe five parking spots in front. Otherwise you have to walk down into the back neighborhood and find a muddy lot to park at, and even then it's poor parking. For the location itself, the performance area is a great space and there's lots of room to spread out and play pool or just go hang in the bar. it's a little Divey, and the food is the typical greasy bar food. We didn't try any as the menu was super limited and didn't appeal to us. The staff was accommodating but didn't interact much. Sorry we couldn't give a better review. If I were to suggest anything to the owners, it would be to bring back some of your old menu so there's a better selection.

Yelp
My wife and I arrived early to see the Zeppelin cover band Zeperella. While waiting in line for a drink it was evident this place was woefully unprepared and overwhelmed for the event. The Vessel is a brew pub, yet a customer requested an IPA, and the bartender pointed at the limited beer menu and said that's all we have. The same guy snapped at his wait staff and started moving chairs away from the bar telling customers there was no bar service available. The grill was closed, the only food Available was a cute VW van food truck serving glorified hot dogs for $$$ The band wasnt even going to start till 9 o'clock, there's an opening act that wasn't on the bill and I don't care to see. We walked out at 7:50

Yelp
Have not been here since Covid. They have really upped the place! All the rooms are open and they have added more games to the game room! Btw the pool tables are free! I really wanted to try the food again but the kitchen's oven' hood was not working so they only have cold subs for the time being. They sound good though. We had the Mango Margs! Yum! I got the same drink, 3 different sizes. I thought that was interesting haha. It didn't matter because they were tasty. My dad likes sweet shit but doesn't know drink names and the bartender was awesome and like, "I got you!!!" He made him a piña Loco or something of the sort! My dad loved it! Bartenders were really nice and attentive! We didn't go to the back because there was a show but the door guy was really nice and explained how the place has changed for the better! Sweet guy too! We will definitely return! Hope that oven gets fixed soon, I heard the pizza is great and I need to try it!

Yelp
Interesting atmosphere. I'm going to say it's a hit or miss depending on what you're into. Live music and arcade games. More advertisement for this establishment would be very helpful . Try to make it your to-go place.

Yelp
My hubby and I came here for the dwarf wrestling, we showed up early and thought we would grab a bite and get our drink on. We waited for almost an hour for our food, we ended up almost being late to our event. My husband liked his burger, my pizza was honestly the worst pizza I've ever had. The sauce tasted like ketchup and it was drenched in sauce. Chucke cheese pizza tastes better than this pizza. After waiting that long I didn't have time to ask for something else before we had to go grab our seats. Other then that, the drinks we strong and the entertainment was amazing. I'll definitely be back, but I'll grab dinner first. P.s. consider adding Mozzarella sticks to the menu

Yelp
Loved coming here to watch my friends band. However their policies change and they don't allow anymore VIP guests and won't be compensating their bands properly. I always came as a VIP guest and bought drinks. I would bring my other friends too and they would buy food AND drinks. Our tabs ranged anywhere from $40-$80+ per PERSON. We will no longer be coming back. We come to watch the show and our support our friends.... Not to give the place money that won't go to the band in the end.

Yelp
Would describe this place as a dive bar for sure. Feels like somebody's uncles garage that got decorated and somehow has a liquor license. Whole place is very amateur hour as far as establishments go. My friend plays in a band and I go to quite a few shows at venues and bars because of him so that's how I came across this place. Saw a show of his at this place on a Friday night and was expecting the usual venue/bar. Sat at the bar and ordered drinks and food. The bartenders were doing quite the bit of bumbling around behind the bar, googling how to prepare any drink that wasn't a beer and they also didn't have a lot of the ingredients for the cocktails on their menu. They also forgot about some drinks I ordered and turns out they gave them to someone else. The food was also pretty meh, I ordered some totchos (tots nachos) they were soggy and fell apart. The sound guy at this venue was also mediocre and everyone played very loudly and unbalanced. The only redeeming qualities are the games they have available and the size of the venue otherwise I'd give it one star.

Sheri K.

Yelp
Went to try their menu and found out they had no kitchen and weren't planning on having any food except for a few sandwiches. Very bad communication via their website and Facebook as none of it's consistent and they aren't even offering a menu that is on online. Super dirty felt icky being in there as they just opened and tables and floors were filthy and gross and didn't look like they ever swept or wipe tables or cleaned the place. Bartender was semi-friendly I suppose but no one greeted us as we came in. The owner had a frown on her face and seemed pissed off and it just didn't seem like a fun place to be in. We checked out their game room and would have liked to of stayed longer, but all the games were disgustingly dirty Again, and just felt icky touching them. Unfortunately, we will not be back in. We were planning on coming to see a band play next Saturday but this atmosphere is just not excepting inviting or entertaining. Sure hope they can get it together and fix it but I kind of don't think they think there's an issue.

Yelp
Found this place they have there own beer and a huge game room in the back. They play live muscle and have concerts. This is the new Lynnwood hangout if your not trying to drive to Seattle this is the spot in the north end to hang with friends. Don't be fooled by the front it is big two bars.

Yelp
This place is so fun. I had my 24th birthday here in September. As someone that rarely parties or drinks, this was such a comfortable place to be. There are so many things to do, and the bar staff are absolutely amazing people. Most of the people at my party spent half the time interacting with the bartenders. One of the best nights of my life, we all felt absolutely terrible the next morning...But in the best way
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
Hesitant to write this review and blow our new secret spot... This place seems unassuming from the front. However, you immediately enter into a well-decorated pirate bar. Just this would be a fun and worthwhile Lynnwood spot. But wait - there's more! They also have a back game room with ping pong, beer pong, jenga, arcade games and board games. Beyond that there is a second bar with a full stage (please do karoake!) On Friday nights there is a pirate group that really gives this place a little extra magic. There is a food menu - bar food vibes. The beer selection is limited and service can be pretty slow. Also, parking is limited. However, I will gladly put up with those things if I can enjoy this adult "amusement park"!

Yelp
Stopped in after work for a drink and snacks. Sat down and the bartender eventually came by for my drink order. When bringing the drink she told me to give her a credit card - I gave it to her and she walked away..... ......never to be seen or heard from again!! They had 4 people on staff behind the bar and not a single person came to ask me if I wanted food!?! I even tried to wave one down - he looked at me and nodded (he was talking to two ladies) but he never came back to me. 21 minutes later, I've decided to just finish my drink and leave. I wanted to support small businesses, but apparently this place doesn't want my money. I was a waitress, bartender, restaurant manager over 19yrs and this is NOT how you do it..... I'll never be back.

Yelp
This place grows on you- it's definitely a "if you build it they will come" place and they're getting their footing. I've been a few times and wasn't super impressed with the beer, but it's improved in the past month and we just discovered the giant (and sadly empty) game room and concert stage tonight! I can't wait to see this place busier and a concert or two. Service is also great, they've always been very attentive.

Yelp
I came to check out the karaoke a few weeks ago in June. It's a huge venue, but so much unused space. The prices are VERY high for their cocktails. $10 for their special cocktail should at least allow you to taste that there is alcohol in it. Their wine, on tap, is not priced much better. Their staff was very friendly, however, I always had to go up to the bar to order, even when it was slower in the bar. The food is about average, or a little below for a bar. I don't have high expectations for bar food. I do, however expect pizza sauce to not drip all over, due to it being so runny. I also tried an appetizer that claimed to have jalapenos in it, but there was no spice at all. I only went because they had karaoke hosted by my favorite karaoke company (QK). The bar didn't seen to have any AC and my ice cubes melted every 10-15 minutes, even at 65-70 outside. The last time I was there, the owners were on- site drinking. Since I was with a big group, and being a newer establishment, it would have been nice to be thanked for coming in by them. We made up about 1/3 of the business. The location is in a bit of a sketchy part of Lynnwood, and prices should definitely reflect it. The one star is an overall rating. Again, their staff is very nice.

Mariam M.

Yelp
Never been treated so disrespectfully by a security guard ever. Came at my friends and I very aggressively from the start before we even came into the building. Parked in a spot that wasn't a parking spot but was in the parking lot so we didn't realize. And the short security guy with tattoos and ponytail walked up to us and told us very aggressively to move our car instead of respectfully Just informing us that it wasn't a parking spot. And then was rude to us while checking our IDS and inside the bar. Never coming here again.

Yelp
This review is long over due as I had a party at Vessel Taphouse in February right in the middle of Snowmaggedon. I'm sure you all remember the crazy snow storm of 2019 and I had planned a surprise birthday party on the Saturday of the storm. I had 30 guests who were able to brave the snow packed and unplowed roads. Not to mention the three couples who had managed to get here by airplane despite cancelled flights so rescheduling was just not an option. The owner moved mountains, literally mountains of snow, to open up that night for us. Her staff hand shoveled the parking lot and made sure they were ready for us when the guests and then the birthday boy arrived. The staff was so friendly and attentive to our guests and we truly had a great time. I could not have been more thankful that they were able to make this night happen. I hope people can give this small business some time to get up and going. What you don't know is that the city of Edmonds has not made it easy for them to get started at this location and has caused numerous set backs. The inside decor is great and game room and back bar area are ideal for a fun adult night out.

Timothy S.

Yelp
Service was great. We were there for a show for School of Rock and they accommodated us as soon as we arrived. The sound was great for the show and the food came out quick.

Yelp
These guys have been in business more or less continuously under two different names. They stopped very briefly to change from Blue Lightning Brewing into Vessel, which is great news--they went from making perfectly awful beer to very decent stuff. Oddly enough, pretty much all the details from BLBC still apply. They appear to have changed nothing about the taproom area: 1. Woodinville strip mall 2. It's near the warehouse winery district 3. There are a couple other breweries and a cidery nearby, too 4. There's a decent amount of parking 5. It's very nicely furnished 6. Lots of nice TVs 7. Mostly showing the game 8. Friendly, well-caffeinated, bubbly staff 9. Lots of parlor games available downstairs 10. They share space with a winery, whose name they now also share The menu is short here: A few sandwiches, a couple deep-friend things. Fair prices on 'em. It feels like a goofy dive bar in some ways: "Oh, you're 'Vessel virgins'? We need your names and we'll ring a bell and tell everyone we're taking your virginity." Where am I? Kent? Whatever. Thankfully, they didn't actually do this, though they did yell across the room to ask us how our drinks were. The staff here CLEARLY care a ton that you're enjoying yourself, even if they are a little kooky. They check on everything, they're super quick, super friendly. The chardonnay was thoroughly decent, no oak, light tree fruit flavors. The IPA was solid--no flaws, nice fresh clear flavors. Prices were good. I'd come back, which I was not expecting to say when I realized it was a formerly awful brewery with a new name. They're good now! Check 'em out.

Yelp
Paid $18 for a pizza that was processed garbage. Not expecting gourmet or anything crazy fancy but take a little pride in your food. Pre made crap crust, canned sauce, "meatballs".... save your money. Beer was pretty good nothing to write home about... also watched two people walk in without masks and didn't hear a peep from the staff, one being a women who walked right up to the bar and was served without issue, not to be a "Karen" but I'd like to know in a time of a pandemic that they're taking it seriously... from what I witnessed, they're not...

Yelp
It was Friday and we were out on adventure to find somewhere new. I have spent a good share of time in Woodinville and some how missed this place. The upstairs is fun and they have a good selection of beers brewed in house along with wine on tap and Hard A drinks. The food menu offers pizza, appetizers and a selection of other foods...perfect for a lite food stop to go along with your drinks. Surprising and fun there is a super large area down stairs full of fun games such as pool, ping pong, foos ball, Jinga, and more! We were the only ones downstairs and had a blast. The people working at the restaurant were top notch and the customer service and check backs on us AMAZING....not sure about some of the other reviews but our experience was fun, tasty, and made for a great night. Vegetarians should note that there are options on the menu including Pizza, sandwich, and a couple of appetizers. Check it out !
google avatar

Collin G.

Yelp
We're adventure seekers, always hoping for fun new venues near home. This place looks really cool, but... First the service is painfully slow and inattentive. Next, the menu needs an overhaul - if they hired a chef to create some fun pirate inspired bar food it would be amazing. It's cool but I'd probably not go back.
google avatar

Yelp
These guys suck. Their place could be decent if they could get along with customers, each other, and their partners. Their wine is ok and their facility works. But holy hell, their principles are WAY out of whack. I've never had a run in with them, but I've seen them argue with customers over little, stupid issues. They like to argue with each other too, making the whole place uncomfortable. Plus they kicked out grizzly cider works and then blue lightning brew with zero notice, really hurting those infant businesses. I won't return, but karma is coming for them. I wouldn't recommend going there and assisting their unscrupulous business model. UPDATE: I did notice a couple of Yelp comments about great service. I suspect that's the beer folks because the wine side of the house has never provided good service.

Yelp
I love this place so much! Extremely fun trivia on Tuesdays, AMAZING drinks, karaoke hosted by an immensely talented singer, great food, and awesome staff. When you first walk in, it seems like a small dive (I mean this as a term of endearment. I love dives) but go to the right or go forward, toward the bathrooms and you find so many more spacious rooms! This would be the perfect place for an event.
google avatar

Vicki S.

Yelp
Place is too cold and we waited too long for mediocre pizza that had canned mushrooms on it. Eeww. We watched a table wait an hour and half for they're food. It was finally delivered after they left. Customer service was great.

Yelp
Came here night of 7/30/22. Never been more disrespected by a security guard/anyone ever in my life. DONT COME HERE. When we first walked up the security guard stared at my best friends boobs for an uncomfortable amount of time which made both of us feel weirded out. My friend who drove parked in a spot he wasn't allowed to and the security guard started questioning us and acting erratically. We said sorry we didn't know he couldn't park there and we would move. I asked if there was any further problems and he was like "if there was a fucking problem I'd tell you" extremely aggressively. Dude should not be security with that short of a temper. Anyway, we went inside, but only after he tried to give me shit for my vertical ID that isn't expired which I've never had a problem with. Then when we tried to order a shot the bartender proceeded to deny us service for "safety reasons" and only discriminated against us women. We were not drunk at all (we had only drank one seltzer prior to coming) and tried to give this place a shot but I highly advise against going. Even when they denied us women service they continued to try serving the guys in our group who had clearly drank. 0 stars. Come here if you like to be sexualized and discriminated against!

Yelp
Went last night for the first time. Bartender in very back was excellent but it was 8 pm on a Sat night and only 3 people there. We ordered egg roles and chicken firecrackers and both were so bad we sent them back to the kitchen. We played a round of ping pong but place was pretty dead. You really need to serve quality food not just have cutesy names for it. It's important to have great food. My friend had come before and had the Caesar salad which she said was equally bad so she was not planning on returning. I love your decor but it's not enough for us to return. You've been open about 8 mths and it seems you've not picked up on the reviews about your food and changed it. Here's to hoping you do.

Yelp
I was so looking forward to going to this bar but was let down. I loved the theme, the drinks were good and the waitress was nice. Went the food came out (granted I only ordered some appetizers) it was so bland it verged on gross. Then went the bill came, it had the wrong items on it and even with waving my arms around, I could not get anyone's attention. So that was beyond aggravating. I don't know if I will be going back.

Yelp
A great place to have a beer and play ping pong with friends. Food isn't bad, but their taco Tuesdays are great. Really good chicken lime tacos for a reasonable price.

Yelp
What more can you ask for? A pirate themed bar with plenty to do. The staff is great and the pizza is amazing!

Yelp
I have loved coming here since they opened a couple years ago! They have recently opened an outdoor space where your pups came come and enjoy it with you! They have amazing food, amazing friendly staff, and a great selection of alcohol! The atmoshphere here is friendly and inviting, while having a fun pirate theme!

Yelp
Great place for millennials or people who don't know what type of beer they like. If you're looking for a good old American beer like Olympia, Rainier, Bud or Miller, this is not the place for you.

Yelp
Not amazing food, but dang...amazing drinks and atmosphere!!!! The bartenders are amazing here. The decorations are also great.

Yelp
100% the coolest bar I've been in. Games everywhere!!! It's huge!!!! The Pirate theme is rad!!! They have Corn hole, old school arcade games, ping pong, a cute little stage, multiple rooms and like I said this place is huge!!!! Heather the bartender was super easy to talk too. The regulars were awesome and the chef was generous and friendly. We just moved across the street and can't be more excited to have found the coolest bar in the area within two blocks of our house!!!

Yelp
If your into terrible malt bomb craft beer that taste like it has been sitting in a hot car for two months, then I would suggest Vessel Taphouse. Terrible service, cheesy theme, and undrinkable beer. If you have any knowledge of good local microbrew avoid this place. Sorry

Yelp
Great place. Amazing food. Drinks are strong and location is lowkey. Good place to hangout Dillon the bartender looks scarey but is a softy. Chatted him up for quite a bit. Super chill atmosphere.

Yelp
Best new place to hang out and grab a drink in Lynnwood! Great bartenders and cool atmosphere! Just opened! Still coming together but this place is going to rock when it gets going!!!!
